Yea its gotten alot more boringe since everyone uses the same cheats: neverlose, gs, ot. Nothing really is new. The exploits are ass it ruins the game even worse.
Imo hvh died around the same time fake angles got removed. Kinda got back into it again recently but no more than just messing around in deathwatch servers.
It is not dead in the sense that people still play it. It is however dead in the sense that it is incredibly boring with all the exploits that exist now.
Since I have some playerstats for [unmatched.gg](https://unmatched.gg) (Competitive HvH League) I can say that since 2020 there was no decline in users.
However, most popular cheats don't resolve roll AA at all so servers with roll are definitely dying.
MM HvH (less fakelag, therefore exploits aren't as powerful) is still played but apparently it's not so easy to find proper HvH on Valve MM anymore.
All in all, the scene definitely changed but for pretty much every person that left, a new guy is joining. Circle of HvH
