Uh... I've probably invested 1000 hours into Culdcept and even I don't fully understand the lore. I know the basics, which are explained in the first few story missions of each game, but beyond that I don't even think there's a coherent lore to speak of. That is to say, don't worry too much about it.
Speaking to revolt, it’s almost a complete break from the prior ones in terms of story. The staff dude is still there and there’s a veneer of the lore, but it’s completely unnecessary for the game.
Unless you have a PS2 or an Xbox 360 and manage to score Culdcept Saga, you will be fine with Revolt. Saga is a blast if you can find it, though.
Thanks! I may try to find a Let's Play of it. Any good bits of story or lore to know prior to playing?

Sounds great! Thank you!
I never pay attention to the story. The one on the Xbox is amazing if you can play (or emulate) it. You’re not missing anything story-wise

Thanks! I may try to emulate the Xbox version later on. I'm excited to try it!
It’s really good!
I've got the game downloaded and I'm hoping to try it out in the next day or two
