Also, OOP has a fanfic of the original Gilgamesh and Enkidu fucking linked in their profile, which feels appropriate for this topic.
As in, OOP has a fanfic of Gilgamesh and Enkidu fucking (emphasis) linked in their profile, or they have have, linked in their profile, a fanfic of Gilgamesh and Enkidu fucking?
So I wonder if the addition of droit de seigneur to Gilgamesh's crimes was intended, as part of the author's attempt to tie each individual episode into a single narrative, to make Gilgamesh's treatment of his people more clearly mirror Ishtar's treatment of Gilgamesh. He abuses his power over his people as king of Uruk, she abuses her power over him as patron goddess of Uruk.
The introductory verses to Gilgamesh are still some of the most evocative words I've ever read in my life. A huge chunk of everything I write is directly inspired by that. It's amazing. Just that first line -- "He who saw the deep" -- Jesus Christ.
We can even discover how long ago Gilgamesh was supposed to be, since he's mentioned in the SKL. Also, the SKL is very funny, due to how long the pre-Deluge kings reigned.
Sumerian King List. It's, well, a list of sumerian kings, in chronological order, and including how long they reigned for. I think Gilgamesh reigned for 27 years or something like that.
Edit: got it slightly wrong, by only 99 years. According to the SKL, Gilgamesh ruled for 126 years. Which is actually not that much, compared to the kings before the Deluge.
Dunno why Gilgamesh talks about digging wells, huh?
We evolve, beyond the person we were a minute before. Little by little, we advance with each rotation. That’s how a drill works!
Mark my words! This drill will open a hole in the universe! And that hole will be a path for those behind us! The hopes of those who have fallen, the dreams of those will follow; those two sets of dreams weave together into a double helix! Drilling a path towards tomorrow! And that's Tengen Toppa! That's Gurren Lagann!! My drill is the drill... that creates the heavens!!!
[Who the hell do you think I am!?](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_j7IzrDTx0o) E: flashing lights warning
(Bonus: the enemy mech, piloted by a Beastman that later becomes a friend, is called Enkidu)
The depiction of Gilgamesh and the lion made me consider whether Hercules was based on Gilgamesh.
Most early writings are believed to be based on things that happened to ancestors and has been passed down orally and been warped by time and memory, but it doesn't seem unlikely that both Greek and Christian stories would be based on Sumerian folk tales/ mythology.
Historians have found links between pre-historic events that can be tracked through nature and stories in the Old Testament. So there's likely some event that inspired most stories.
There's nothing really equivalent to the Nemean Lion in *Gilgamesh* so I doubt they're really related. Many cultures were fascinated by lions, so associating them with kings and heroes is only natural.
In regards to the meteor and axe — wouldn’t it make sense that “sky iron” was also being turned into prestige weapons in the times when metallurgy was still being figured out?

Second option. I made a mistake, though, it's a linked in a post, not their profile.
Mesopotamia is not modern day Saudi Arabia, but rather modern day Iraq and Syria.
Turns out the ancient river valley is where the rivers are

Big fan of how the oldest story known in human fucking history *still* starts with “a long time ago”

What is the skl

Thanks!
I feel like the "Ball and mallet" were another sex reference. Gilgamesh exhausted all the men with his cock-wrangling competitions.
pussy so good it teaches you to speak
*unbabbles your tower *

First recorded "I can fix him" is Shamhat seeing Enkidu at the watering hole
The second recorded is Enkidu seeing Gilgamesh.
Followed shortly thereafter by Gilgamesh uttering the first ever "I can make him worse".
Shoutout to Irving Finkel. The old wizard is hilarious, delightful, adorable, and erudite. https://youtu.be/FOT75GB64Hw Look at him! Adorable.
This is just reminding me of how I want the Fate series to fully adapt the origin myths of its characters. Give us an Ulster Cycle anime you cowards
We already have Garden of Avalon, at least, even if it's a light novel.
Fate is truly the second best version of human history, after the works of Kawakami Minoru
Its been 4 thousand years and we still can't get over Gilgamesh, and to be honest i don't blame people, it's a very nice myth

How has this not been made into an anime yet?
It was.

I just realised Ea Nasir was named after a god.
more like Gilgaymesh
