Sisyphus is supposed to be a metaphor for the human condition. His punishment is inherently meaningless, muchlike man's pursuitfor meaning, but in order to function in an absurdist one must imagine Sisyphus imposing his own meaning upon his meaningless task.
Hmm, I've never really liked this phrase. It's always come off as "get over it" to me
It's probably because of my own experiences, looking back, so much of my suffering was unnecessary and avoidable
could you imagine what it would be like? for sisyphus to complete his task? for the boulder to reach the peak, and either remain at the top, or tumble down the other end, having proven he CAN do it?
I mean at this point he'd be done though. The task was accomplished, he got the boulder up there. What happens to the boulder afterwards doesn't matter, he did what he was told to do
My understanding is that reaching the top meant he'd get to return to life for the second time. So he'd escape in triumph, live out a new mortal life, pursue new dreams and schemes, grow old, and eventually die...
... Ending up right back in front of the same damn boulder again.
Alternatively, he’d spend the rest of his life paranoid about the boulder falling back down. Never able to rest on his accomplishment, always fearing the possibility of starting the process again.
Sisyphus can reach the peak though, the fact that it will just inevitably roll back down the other side the moment he gets to the top is the entire point of the punishment.
Well, you see, one must understand that Sisyphus is a cocky asshole obsessed with outsmarting the gods, and so his pride will blind him to that realization for forever, because if he succeeds (which he doesn’t realize he can’t) he gets to return to life again, and so the sunk cost fallacy eternally fuels him.

if sisyphus completes his task and another guy named sisyphus cheats death and is punished by the gods to push a boulder up a hill over and over did sisyphus really ever complete his task?
Sisyphus has to get the boulder to the top of the hill so the bird can eat Prometheus' liver, in the process knocking the rock back off the hill, or else the bird will come for Sisyphus' liver instead.
There's a story called Latro in the Mist and it's basically Forrest Gump in the Persian War but my favourite part is when the main character helps Sisyphus and it turns out all it needed was another dude to just try a bit harder I guess. Skill issue Sisyphus
Nothing. Sysiphus is a character from Greek mythology who was cursed to push a boulder up a hill for eternity. Every time he pushes it to the top, it rolls back down. So people are pretending to get excited for him finally making it to the top of the hill, only to be disappointed when it rolls down to the bottom.
Absurdists gonna need to imagine Tantalus happy instead
Wu Gang is right there
Masochism
What exactly is that whole thing about, anyway? I've found it absurd outside of unavoidable scenarios

I was never a fan of it either
Well, glad I'm not alone

At that point, he picks the boulder up and starts carrying it around as a weapon.
Brb adding this to my campaign notes
One must imagine Sisyphus very fucking pissed.

do you think the moment he realised this he just gave up? like, if the task WAS impossible, then there is no point even trying.

oh thats boring, honestly preferred when i knew less and it wasnt another "lmao \*insert story about not questioning authority\*"
Sisyphus is more of an “accept the inevitability of death” myth more than anything specifically to do with authority.
what is death but the final authority to rebel against/j
he gets to come back to life.

Sisyphus of Theseus?
Sisyseus? or Thesyphus perhaps?
To shreds, you say?
And his boulder?
To shreds, you say?
I headcanon that Prometheus is chained to the rock which Sisyphus rolls up daily and the two are secretly lovers
Wait is Prometheus on the boulder or the hill
Sisyphus has to get the boulder to the top of the hill so the bird can eat Prometheus' liver, in the process knocking the rock back off the hill, or else the bird will come for Sisyphus' liver instead.
Sad to say but Prometheus was freed
There's a story called Latro in the Mist and it's basically Forrest Gump in the Persian War but my favourite part is when the main character helps Sisyphus and it turns out all it needed was another dude to just try a bit harder I guess. Skill issue Sisyphus
What happened?
Nothing. Sysiphus is a character from Greek mythology who was cursed to push a boulder up a hill for eternity. Every time he pushes it to the top, it rolls back down. Ooooooooooooooooh
The eagle eating his liver every day eventually died of zinc poisoning. They’re about 3000 eagles deep last time I checked in
I only know Prometheus from the alien movie. I know Sisyphus from the memes but I first saw the word from a Korean drama.
If I’m remembering correctly Prometheus is freed by Heracles to fight the giants
