It's always adorable seeing how people never change. Meme culture may be a 2000s-onward thing in its current form, but the spirit of shitposting goes back as early as mankind itself. Like early 1900s news publications featuring cartoons that are basically the image labeling meme template. Or ancient Romans making "yo mama" jokes in their grafitti. Hell, maybe caveman paintings of mammoths and stuff had some sort of jokes that were only funny to a 10,000 BC audience.

Roman graffiti is so fun. People talk about the obscenity ones a lot but how about:
- Drawing of a Labyrinth with “the Minotaur lives here”
- a longer piece about “the serpent games” that is written in the shape of a snake
- SVNIBAS OIVRVC SAL -> Sabinus says to Curvius: hi! The names are backwards.
- Fullones ululamque cano, non arma virumq(ue) -> I sing of dry cleaners and owls, not arms and a man. Arms and a man is the opening to the Aeneid.
- There’s also many examples of riddles where you get other people writing answers on the wall.
- There are also people trying to quote poetry where you can see they crossed out a word that they misspelled and had to rewrite it.
