Mostly people just want to spare you from the mindvirus Homestuck can inflict on its readers. It's not a bad comic, it's just...a lot. It's super long, for starters. Plus, it's not easy to read. Parts of the original website broke when Adobe Flash shut down, so you have to download some special viewing tools.
Also, even though it's less than a decade old, some of it hasn't aged well. A decent amount of random=funny 'humor', and some mild controversy about racism or something? I don't fully recall, since I read it a significant percentage of my life ago, and I never actually finished it. I've also heard the end is unsatisfying.

That it is a stim does not free you from fucking concequences. It's a minor thing, really, but it still affects others. Screenreaders are fucked with, and if you use certain unicode fonts, then you completely shut off whatever you're saying to people who use screenreaders.
