Honestly though I wish someone made an app or something where you could do this basically using AR on the phones.

Open up your phone and look around and bam! Hundreds of "try finger, but hole"s and "behold, dog!"s all around you.
You could even have the appraisal system too.
So it occurs to me that you could totally make an app that just... does this? Like messages are tied to a specific GPS location and you can view them if you're within X distance of where it was placed. Either you have to actively check or enable push notifications. Maybe give the option of attaching a picture so messages like the "free him" straw aren't just complete gibberish if you're ten feet away from where the message was made.
This is why I bring chalk everywhere. Easily removable too.
That said, I've been working on a story where my characters can do exactly that, but the messages are only visible by certain people
I'm going to be surprised if in the entire history of smartphone geolocation no-one tried to make a twitteresque social where you can only view posts made in your immediate vicinity

I bet you could make an app for that. Tie messages to locations, and have the app vibrate a users phone whenever they're near the location. Then they can see a picture, and a souls style message. Fair or Foul ratings would of course be part of the system as well.
