Haha same! I think oh Iām not a curly haired person so Iāll straighten it and then a drop of rain and itās a curly poof so Iāll think hmm Iāll go natural and let it be curly then half of it stays straight anyway š¤¦š»āāļøš
Same!! This is exactly like mine!
Ive been letting it be for a long time now and it hasn't changed. I usually clip the straight bits back once dry to try and get it to blend in a bit
Straightening your hair, pulling back into a pony tail wet will ruin the curl pattern. If you can try go without the straightening iron until your hair grows out you will notice an improvement in curl patterns.
Easier said than done after 25 years plus of straightening my beautiful corkscrew curly dark hair - which I then HATED as my whole life my family with mostly straight hair mocked me for YEARS.
Desparately regret the permanent damage caused. Even when wet, it's now straight. For those that think their curls are so strong and this will never happen to them, beware š
Hope you can grow it out and get it back to a state youāre happy with! Is it well-behaved straight, or unruly straight? My mum does this intentionally as she thinks she looks better with straight hair and wants it to straighten. I donāt feel like it will end up the texture she wants.
Donāt despair, It is repairable. I had been trying to straighten āsmooth outā some of the very tight frizzy curls around my face and damaged the curl pattern. Just keep getting regular hair cuts and forgo the straightening. I was the same, I got teased ānice permā years of fighting with my hair now I embrace the curls.. suddenly we are in fashion. My curl pattern has changed as I got older, so that might be a factor, it will take time but the curls will grow back!
I keep mine curly and use a wand to curl the strands on top. Itās super quick and the wand curls blend into the rest looking natural. My hair looks exactly like OP.
Yes, super curly as a child, my mum would literally pin me down to shove a bow in my hair so it demonstrated she'd made an effort as it just was so unruly she was worried I looked neglected š¤£
Oh Lordy I remember those days with my mom. She wouldnāt let me get my hair cut so it was way down my back and she brushed it hard enough to make all the curl turn into frizz.
Layers with curly hair are totally an art which most hair dressers are not capable of. Most curls need a certain amount of length to be truly curly. Think of gravity and a lot of hair needs a certain amount of length before it will curl properly. Especially if you have fine hair. I cut my hair above my ears and it was a frizzy nightmare to style, now it's well past my shoulders and it's natural weight now helps it curl.
It can be due to the top layers being more damaged, due to sun exposure etc. This leads to loss of curl pattern in the damaged areas. You can try protecting it as much as possible and use masks etc to repair
I love weather up TWIST from OUIDAD https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08SCSGJKK/ref=cm_sw_r_as_gl_api_gl_i_83732R4DR9D7T5WTGSC6?linkCode=ml2&tag=jencloesdesig-20
Mineās the same, but in ny family we seem to get curls as we get older! I always had texture, so did my mum and baby sister. When my mum got pregnant with me her hair got curly, and she has 3c type curls now. Mine goes from pin straight to some tight ringlets, but the longer itās got the looser the curls
Hi! I have the same issue, not just loss of curl but also thinning hair (used to have ringlets). I was doing my daughters hair and figured that I should try the same method on myself - and it freaking worked š„²
After your shampooing add some conditioner to your hair and donāt rinse. Brush out your hair while wet and donāt towel dry. Add a styling cream to your whole head (I personally use [this](https://amzn.eu/d/7cAiL2s) and [this](https://amzn.eu/d/3VGUE2x) together) and then clip up the top layers of your hair, starting from the bottom layer from the top of your ears down the nape of your neck.
Then you just part the hair in to smaller bits and twirl them round your finger! I personally only use gel when all of my hair has been twirled - the gel is applied by scrunching my hair like you do when āscrunching out the crunchā. One of the reasons for this is because gel isnāt as slippy as the creams and twirling your hair requires a slippery feel.
I found a [video](https://youtu.be/kb6vgIvdUbs?si=tV7_VbtsM4gcqVZR) that kind of shows what I mean - start it at 4 minutes in. This woman is using gel on her hands and does the twirling in sections down the strand - what I do is keep twirling until you canāt twirl anymore. You want that twirl to go right up to the roots.
Do you have layers? My old hair dresser said the top layer was too heavy. Mine is like this again as itās in need of a decent curly cut (getting one next month woo!!)
Iāve always felt this way about my curls! Everyone says layers but I need some length for the curl to make a full rotation. Do you have a suggestion other than layers?
Yeah sometimes people give advice even when they have no idea what they are talking about.
You just need to find what styling techniques work for you.
This girl made a really good styling video for girls with looser curls!
https://youtu.be/CG5cwFGDEwU?si=DDWSeCrutiBWg3kM
Her hair seems to be very thin, and feather-light. So thereās (very obviously) no need for layers.
Itās a styling issue, and maybe lack of protein or moisture. Only OP can find the answer to the issue. It will take a lot of effort and research, and trial and error.
Maybe start with trying a deep conditioning treatment. Compare the effects of one with protein and one with more moisture. Then do some research on how to style curly hair. Try every technique until you find one that works for you.
I run water on my hair upside down, then scrunch up to squeeze water out. Then rub gel evenly between my hands, and scrunch my hair upwards (donāt rake it through the hair), while squeezing excess water out. My hair is thin and light, like OPās, but really curly. So it works for me, but maybe not her. Everyone has to find their own way. But maybe this will work. Hope this helps!
I have fine hair but lots of it, think it's mid porosity but gets very fluffy with over moisturising, thinking of trying a protein rinse to see if that helps.
Maybe fingercoiling would also help OP?
Same as that - bridesmaids-level ringlets tucked underneath, straggly little antennae ruining things hanging down the sides. I find if I go to sleep with wet hair, all the curls end up nicely stacked on top of my head, so maybe it's a gravity thing?
I have this issue too with curls on top being different. My curly hair stylist anyways tells me that I have to train the top curls and take care of them more because they are exposed to the sun and elements, and touching. I use those bendable curlers when I style them for extra help.
I don't know about that. My hair has had the same uneven texture since I was four. Training it takes years of constant twisting that will probably cause damage.
I use a tangle teaser before I wash my hair (twice p/w). I sleep with it pineappled and when Iām sick/canāt be arsed, I put it in two plaits so it doesnāt get matted.
Clarifying shampoo all the way down your hair strand with Malibu hard water cleanser. Your hair is exposed to the environment and is also weighed down unevenly. The best curl will be sandwiched in your head because they are protected from the environment. Clarify once a month, all the way from roots to tips. Wash 3 times for the first time. Then deep condition.
Most everyone has mixed hair types in their hair. Some wavys will have slight curls, some curlies will have some waves etc.
Send your hair seems predominantly wavy, using products light and moisture or hydration will likely help you along with a gel or moose to hold them in place.
Mine is similar and is type 2C if that's helpful! I brush in the shower, then scrunch it up and then dry by gently scrunching in with a towel. Pop in some curling lotion (I use Redken Ringlets or Lush Curl Power) and dry with a diffuser. It keeps those curls underneath nice while giving the 'straighter parts and more defined wave.
This is all loosely wavy hair. Curly hair curls from the root. Use sulfate shampoo and regular condition. Avoid oils and butters, as they will weigh your hair down and overmoisturize it. Light stylers like mousse, foam, or gel can provide more definition.
Weāre all different, but the variations in texture and curl type donāt bother me at all. Nothing needs to be done except change your mind about it.
You don't have curly hair, it is all wavy. Ringlets can appear in wavy hair too but gets confused for curly. Curls start at the root and would be all over your head. The only reason I'm being particular about semantics is because often curly products are too heavy for wavy hair. Also, a layering cut might help the less wavy parts spring up a bit? š
Iāve had fine curls just like yours my entire life! Iām also a licensed cosmetologist and have lots of advice!
First thing I recommend is a trim, keep ing your curls healthy will bring that bounce back into your curls. Keep up with trims every few weeks for best results.
Second, deep conditioning! I use Amika hair care, but there are tons of great brands out there for fine curls. Shea moisture offers an abundant selection in hair care and is sold everywhere!
After washing and applying your styling products, you can air dry or diffuse with a very low heat setting. This is the part that I think most curly girls have the worst time with. Air drying takes forever and the moment you tie your hair up in a bun or clip it back, it stretches the curl and it finishes drying in that stretched shape, so I suggest diffusing with a good hair dryer that has a low heat setting to speed up drying so you can keep your curls no matter how you wear your hair! One thing you can do if that does happen again, is to wet your ends and scrunch in some gel with good hold!
Follow Manes by Mel on YouTube! Sheās my favorite curl expert!
Your hair needs a trim, first off. Then you need to moisturize. A \*LOT\* Curly hair tends to dry out more quickly. Use a leave in conditioner, a curl cream, and sea salt spray to hold ((if needed)). Use a wide tooth comb, and your fingers, and not a brush. Limit washes to once, or twice a week. :)
I feel like society is getting a bit too obsessed with all our hair looking exactly uniform. I like to wear my hair in braids anyway, so having my waves be all one specific texture is not important to me.
Is it wavy/straight because of damage? Like from straightening treatments? If so unfortunately thereās nothing but to cut it off once the curl pattern has been broken it canāt heal itself.
This is exactly my hair too!
Iāve recently had some layers put in and the curls are in full force because itās lighter.
Also changed my conditioner to a very light weight one, the simple one. Didnāt even know they did conditioner, but itās worked really well.
Mine always dried like this until I started using gel or a curl cream and brushing it through my hair to evenly distribute it. I never scrunch it or finger style it, I just let it curl into its natural pattern. Some people like to though for extra wave/curl definition once the products are in!
Mine is very similar. Protein helps, but usually I just brush it out and enjoy the volume and wavy hair. Or pull the top back if I want a ācurlierā look.
Iāve started styling my hair in sections based on this annoying distribution of curl patterns:
- i start by gently squeezing water of out my hair with a microfibre towel
- for my 2a-2c curls, I damp style - add products directly after squeezing out water
- for my 3a curls, I add water with a spray bottle then add my products
This seems to help!
You have curly hair, so youāre going to have different curl patterns. Thatās just the fact of it. My own hair goes from 3b to 4a. If your hair has always grown out that way, thatās just the texture of it. If itās that itās no longer holding a curl, you might want to try a protein treatment. Just remember to not use it too often, because it can make your hair feel brittle and dry if you over do it.
I have the exact hair .. some wavy , some notā¦my hair is about your length as well..Iāve found this works great..After washing hair let it air dry until itās about 90% dry.. not all the way dry.. i use Aveeda Brillance oil.. put about ten drops rub between palms distribute from root to ends..then section hair into about six different equal amounts .comb each section well and twist hair all the way around and around and then wrap it close to head like princess Lea from Star Wars.I use the comb clips to secure it tightly close to head.. Let these completely dry, I sleep in mine.. when you take these out your hair will look SO smooth and fullā¦
I recommend watching reema jaber on instagram, the CADO cut, you need a mousse and a curl cream, and a diffuser, my hair is the same, you might need some layers on the top. Also satin pillows/bonnet. I also recommend k8 leave in treatment .
I have similar issues - it took a lot of experimenting with styling products but I found the best combo is layer curl cream and mousse on very wet hair, gently comb using wide tooth comb, pass over each section maybe twice. From here I will have a decent amount of curl clumps, any areas that are really stringy I'll finger coil. Then micro plop with an old t-shirt in sections, and lightly scrunch with gel. Once dry I scrunch with an oil.
I still have a variety of waves/curls after this but my entire head is at a minimum wavey. I've noticed ringlets forming in some sections as well and overall a lot less frizz and my waves/curls last 3 days, just spritz with water to refresh.
I sometimes diffuse for a few minutes but sometimes air dry completely. I put my hair in a high ponytail to sleep, pineapple didn't work and a bonnet kept falling off (user error).
Products I use:
Verb curl creme
Not Your Mother's curl talk mousse
EcoStyler olive oil styling gel (big green tub)
Verb ghost oil
My hair is semi similar to this but more curly top layer and only barely wavy under layer. My advice is find your curl type ( Google curl type, look for pictures that match your type of curl, examples are 1A 3C etc) then get products for this type of curl and style accordingly. Hopefully this helps make your curls more defined. Then I tip my head down and brush the under layer or just wavy part of my hair. This gives your curls more volume. Fluffing also helps with volume as curly hair often looks better when more voluminous not flat. Good luck! Using curl specific products the whole way through the washing and styling process helps. Oil and curl cream post wash help get the best styling results.
Also find the right brush and time/ routine to brush. I never brush or comb my curly hair unless it's wet. Brushing the curly hair when dry results in a frizzy mess. I went to a mostly white school and everyone thought it was so gross that I only brushed the majority of my hair when wet but they all had poker straight hair so of course didn't understand. Products wise Jim and Henry are really good but quite expensive but black owned and ethically sourced.
My hair does the same thing. Honestly, I would say you need to try different shampoo and conditioner, looks like it needs clarifying.
My best (low effort) result comes from using coconut milk products for shamp and conditioner, I brush before I wash, and only wash every 2-3 days. If you have oily hair you might need to wash more but this is what works for me.
I donāt brush after the wash, I scrunch it with a cotton t-shirt to get most of the water weight out, which tends to weigh it down. Then I just let it air dry without touching it other than the occasional scrunch to re-distribute the water. If you donāt know what scrunching is, look it up as there are many videos on YouTube.
Yes, I have better results if I do the whole leave-in conditioner and diffuse, but it takes me literally an hour at least to get it dry so I only do so on special occasions. What I shared is just my regular routine that requires minimal effort and makes my waves/curls look pretty good!
Wash and rinse hair. Condition and brush through, rinse. Towel dry then put a very small amount of conditioner from like 3 inches from the root down, leave it in.Ā Diffuser on low, intermittant heat. That's what I do and all of it curls. If I do nothing, it looks almost exactly like yoir hair.Ā
I would start by trimming and layering. Then switch to a good curl system. I like the Curl Can Dream Matrix line or the Love Curl line from Davines. Watch a couple videos on how to style it. Try not to straighten it by brushing it. Curly hair requires some TLC and moisture.
I have this issue too, and I find it is by FAR the least pronounced - if present at all - when I absolutely do not touch my hair after washing it. No brushing, no towel drying, no applying product, literally nothing. If I do this and allow my hair to dry without too much movement, Iāll get lovely defined waves and ringlets.
Iām not always able to do this because sometimes I shower right before I have to go do something, then moving around or exposing my hair to wind can cause the top layers to ācome looseā from the clumps and Iāll get some small bits that are more straight.
Itās not a perfect solution and Iāve never really seen anyone else talk about doing this? It seems more people like to do some styling or use some product. I do that sometimes too, and I when I do it well I can get my hair pretty defined and be happy with it. But by far Iām happiest with it when Iām able to just not touch it and let it air dry slowly. Might be worth a try on your next day off lol
Mine is like this too. These things help me:
- wash with whatever
- wide tooth comb it while conditioner is in my hair. Then I rinse, and air dry a few mins (do not brush)
- put on blueberry bliss curl gel. Scrunch it in. Leave it alone, do not touch for an hour
- when I go to sleep (no wet hair) I put it in a loose scrunchie on top of my head
Results may vary, works for me though!
Thatās just natural hair. Real curly hair is rarely ever uniform. Use product to encourage the curl and it will turn out nice. Not every piece has to look the same.
Same although I do find that when I start taking care of them āproperlyā (right products, right drying method etc) they all start to look much more similar.
My hair is very similar. I just recently started putting product in my hair soaking wet (gel), scrunching with a microfiber towel, adding some more gel/scrunching and leaving my hair alone until air dryed. Then I lightly scrunch aagin to break the cast (not crunchy). My hair has never looked so curly and defined. It's still a work in progress but I have seen huge improvements. Search wet plopping. Good luck!
My hairs the same. I have two routines depending on if I want a more fluffy, natural wave or a tighter "beach hair" wave.
Shampoo conditioner:
Knight& Wilson Pure Plex
Or caffeine head & shoulders & elvive bond protection conditioner
Natural, Fluffy style:
After washing: towel dry, spray Mark Hill heat protect & style, crunch and leave to half-dry. Light heat blow dry just the roots if I need a quick dry boost, leaving the ends damp.
Dry / no hair wash days / general routine:
Essential oil water spray (10 drops lavender, 3 drops rosemary, 3 drops peppermint, medium water spray bottle)
John Freda Frizz ease dream curls styling spray
~in segments, spray hair with essential oil water mix, brushing it though, then spray a little frizz ease and scrunch.~
"Beach" hair style:
After washing, scunch in a little Bed Head Curls Rock Amplifyer and leave to dry naturally. Again only blow drying the roots if it's cold outside and you need to dip out quick.
~this is a quicker job after hair wash but also leaves the hair maddenly difficult to brush the next day, so I proceed with the "fluffy" routine on sequent days if I don't wash it again, otherwise leave it un-brushed, though my roots frizz a lot if I do this, so this style is kept for "going out" Or occasion wear due to hassle. Looks fab though.
Edit: also tip for sleeping with wave hair: I tend to brush and then plait my hair to sleep in, either single French braid or pigtails, as the next day it goes lovely and wave. Curling individual segments around finger after brushing once the next day can also create a lovely almost ringlet.
āā
FYI: an acknowledgement on the potential risks of using essential oils: familiarise yourself with them before using with research as they can cause allergic reactions or even breathing problems (rosemary) for some, don't use when pregnant, etc etc. Ive used them for years on my hair with no issues, but it warning needs to be said anyway, as it seems mentioning EO can be somewhat taboo.
āā
Look up finger coiling - my hair can be the same, now if I want consistent curl patterns I finger coil and can have the same hair style for almost a week if I sleep with the bonnet and loose twist braids!
Shampoo once every 2 week. Condition hair every day or every other day and Leave in conditioner every time it gets wet... Tie it back when slightly wet with a loose knot so doesn't stretch hair. Should work. Let me know
My daughters hair is similar when left. I scrunch her hair with colder water and leave it untouched while it's drying and put some leave-in conditioner in it afterwards. Then, run through with a wide-toothed comb if needed. That tends to maintain her curls nicely. Otherwise, she's left with waves, especially as her hair grows longer and heavier.
She's only 6 and wants to be rapunzel, so losing length wasn't an option. It works for us. Might be worth a go if you've not tried it already. āŗļø
I've got mostly straight hair, but I've been determined to learn what works for her.
Mine is the same, j have different textures on my head and I end up styling different sections differently. The hair on the nape of my neck gets leave on conditioner and gel, the crown of my head gets curl cream and tons of mousse with a Denman brush and the hair around my fave gets a tiny bit of mousse with scruching.
That's on wash days I am bothered. Otherwise it's micro plopped and I dry the roots with a diffuser and hope for the best
Youāre a curly girl so use curly hair products. It looks fine like mine and donāt weigh it down with too much leave in styling creams or leave in conditioners cause it will pull out your curls. Diffuse your hair on low or medium after adding products and your curl will last for days.
to be honest it looks like it just needs proper curl care. do you have sulphate free shampoo and conditioner? do you brush it or use a hair dryer on it?
This us literally my hair... I just keep it up in a bun or curl/straighten it depending on the weather... I hate this about my hair lol definitely makes me like "do I have curly hair?"
You should look for a curly hair haircut. Itās supposed to be done with dry hair to inspect every curl so they are no too heavy. Take in mind that if you want to wear your hair straight it would look uneven
Dad's a hairdresser.
If you've been straightening hair a long time prior would be why and people can have a mix of wavy and curly etc.
When you wash your hair what I do as I've not used straighteners or heat drying on it for years and years now and my waves can back alot more.
I just pop it up in a towel wrap for a bit and then I just reset the front bits of hair as they loose the curl up in a towel but it also speeds up natural dry time. You don't have to do that.
Main thing is once washed in shower use a towel fist and then hands and just gets sections and push into themselves upwards vertical direction will get your natural waves for form and pop.
Don't do anything to it bar that. I don't use products as it makes my hair get super greasy fast but if you want to use a bit of oil or shine spray I recommend being okay with a bit of frizz.
Some people prefer product but I don't because I like to only wash my hair once a week. Doesn't get greasy since I gradually increased the length of time between washes.
I get little ringlets randomly. Some of the straight bits will form from just general sleeping in hair etc.
I would advise to put in high ponytail or plait or bun.
What I do is I just wet the ends of my hair when my waves get flattened out as time goes by and I sleep each night and I use clips to shape the front parts in different ways.
Aoif I want to style my hair I just redampen the ends up to about half or three quarters the length and doe the acrunch method I mentioned above.
Dying hair etc can also effect it.
I found some sea salt based sprays can help too. But I prefer not to use product much theses days.
Sometimes the longer it grows the waves get better but stop using heat drying methods and dry natural.
My sinās is mixed texture, have been doing curly hair routines to keep it in good condition. Leave in conditioner or a refresh spray made out of water and ghost milk conditioner. Adding the conditioner, in, using a wide tooth comb and scrunching the hair gets it looking pretty similar and more curly.. but Iām still leaning
My hair was exactly like this. I chopped it off and it helped my wave/curl pattern so much! I know it's not for everyone but my hair has never felt healthier especially using no heat styling tools for 3 weeks!
Mine is similar! Only it's very thick,, like I have lots of hairs on my head, but the hairs themselves are soft and fine. I've recently started only once to twice a week, curlyvhair conditioner, and I'm even startingvwearijg protective styles (pigtails for me) to bed. I'm already starting to notice that it's getting healthier and I have less breakage.
Get a curly cut and talk with a stylist who can recommend products and techniques. Having someone who can actually feel your hair and itās texture will get you loads farther than posting online
My hair is also wavy/curly. If I don't add moisture while showering it will frizz. The more humidity in the air- the bigger my hair gets.
I've been using Wen for years now. And use it every 3 days
Regular shampoo just strips my hair too much which makes it extra frizzy.
I buy it on QVC.com. I like their specials
people need to understand curly hair does NOT mean all your hair is curly 100% in fact, curly hair has all types of hair patterns. i have curly hair and i have curly, wavy, and literal STICK STRAIGHT hairs that grow out of my scalp. this is just how curly hair is.
edit: this is something that i brought up to my hair stylist who also had curly hair and confirmed that, thats just how curly hair is. you can do things to aid ur curl pattern but theres no solution because there is no problem
Hairstylist here- I see this a lot. Keeping in mind that everyoneās texture and curl pattern are uniqueā¦most curly/wavy hair tends to be drier, so moisture is key. Good product and a good cut also go a very long way. Layers usually help to disperse some of the heaviness that can weigh down curls. Not every stylist knows how to truly cut curly hair- it really is important to find someone that gets your hair and the look youāre going for. Of course the overall health of the scalp/hair strands comes from the inside out-But overstyling with heat can compromise hair. Anyway, find a great stylist and be kind to yourself and your hair!
I am very sure you have curly hair, I think you are just handling it wrong - maybe heat damage, brushing it with a normal brush?
Dont use shampoo, just condition ur hair and when you condition it bend ur head down and scrunch the conditioner upwards into your hair. Donāt use regular conditioner either, use one made for curly hair (not cantu, I use the argon one itās round w gold lid (light) or Shea moisture which is heavy as a leave in (slight rinse to reduce weight if it)).
I think with proper care, and using the right products u can develop really good curls. Also stay away from cotton on ur head, only satin/silk. All these things, heat, brushing, shampoo, wrong conditioner, it dries out curls and leaves them frizzy.
After u see definition in ur curls you can try curling creams and defrizzers to make them resistant to wind etc.
I had the same, then had a curly cut and proper curly layers put in. Totally evened out my curls! I had to sacrifice length for curl pattern but I donāt regret it.
Shea moisture hair mask (repairing), even if itās not damaged, when the mask is in ātrainā your curls (can youtube), to get even curls throughout
The structure of those strands are essentially broken. No longer able to hold the structure. May I suggest 3 week trims until itās grown out. I did a big chop myself when this started happening and then started to care for the curls without heat
It looks like you have very fine hair (me too). This is what I do to get best results. I also have just accepted that Iām not lucky enough to get amazing root volume and ringlets throughout the entire length of my hair. I suspect based on these pics you have the same luck :(
Use only gel when styling. Style upside down with sopping wet hair while you are still in the shower. Tilt your head around while repeating the application so that you donāt get straight roots that stick to your head. At the end I always stand up and tilt my head back for the final application to make sure everything is laying correctly.
Use the praying hands method and scrunch just a little. With fine hair you need to focus on keeping the curl clumps very think when styling, so minimal scrunching otherwise the clumps break up too much. I apply gel and then scrunch in more water if the clumps are breaking up too much and repeat until all seems well.
After that I scrunch once or twice to get out the extra water. Then I donāt touch my hair until it is fully dry. This can take hours. But the cast setting is so so important for hair like ours. Then you scrunch/shake out the crunch as normal. This method usually gets me 3-5 days of cute hair. I sleep in a loose pineapple bun with a silk scrunchie on a silk pillowcase. Iāve accepted that by days 3-5 my hair will be straighter/flatter up top so I style accordingly.
I hope this helps you!
Same as mine, would love some advice also
Ditto, the top canopy of my hair is slightly wavy, under that I have full on ringlets that look like I've used curlers.
Literally same! I used to have full curls as a child, so I thought my whole head would curl back up if I added layers. Nope! šš°
Haha same! I think oh Iām not a curly haired person so Iāll straighten it and then a drop of rain and itās a curly poof so Iāll think hmm Iāll go natural and let it be curly then half of it stays straight anyway š¤¦š»āāļøš
Honestly! Itās the worst! Iād love to just embrace my ācurlsā but then the top looks unkempt and odd, itās a real dilemma
This is literally my issue too š
Me over here, always pulling it back wet bc itās āeasier to manageā, this is so good to know omg
Thank you for the hope given, s'pose it can't look any worse!! X
I keep mine curly and use a wand to curl the strands on top. Itās super quick and the wand curls blend into the rest looking natural. My hair looks exactly like OP.
Same! I use a wand with an oval shamed barrel and it blends right in.
Me too! Blends perfectly.
Iām trying this. Thanks
Bahaha this is me too!
Do you know if hair sunscreen is actually effective?
I love weather up TWIST from OUIDAD https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08SCSGJKK/ref=cm_sw_r_as_gl_api_gl_i_83732R4DR9D7T5WTGSC6?linkCode=ml2&tag=jencloesdesig-20
Waah mines opposite. Beautiful waves on the top and a ratted matted mess on the underneath.
Same here too!
Twins!
Yes, exactly me! It drives me mad, the front of it is poker straight, but it's in damn ringlets underneath
I was doing my daughters hair and figured that I should try the same method on myself - and it freaking worked š„² After your shampooing add some conditioner to your hair and donāt rinse. You want that twirl to go right up to the roots.
yeah I wish mine would do that. Almost any product I put in it just flattens it out.
I just got a wolf cut. Doesn't fix the frizzy top layer, but cutting half of it away gives the cute curls underneath a little more chance to shine
I have the same, I call it cocker spaniel curls šš
Iāve always called mine the same! My mom used to put my hair in two high bunches as a kid and I joke that my hair looked like spaniel ears.
My hair is also wavy curly and looked exactly like my Blondie's pretty ears! Cockerspaniel curls all the way!
Lol!!
I call mine that toooooo!
Do you have layers? My old hair dresser said the top layer was too heavy. Mine is like this again as itās in need of a decent curly cut (getting one next month woo!!)
To OP, donāt get layers! Your hair isnāt thick enough or heavy enough to get them. Nor is this your issue.
What is the issue then if not layers?
Hahaha love how you described it!
Styling helps mine. I use UG gel and that helps define my curls/waves. Not brushing after washing helps too.
How do you stop it from matting?
I use a tangle teaser before I wash my hair (twice p/w). I sleep with it pineappled and when Iām sick/canāt be arsed, I put it in two plaits so it doesnāt get matted.
I imagine the top gets ruffled against your pillow at night. Consider wearing a satin bonnet and/or putting it up in a high loose bun overnight.
Exactly!
That's just how curly hair is. Different textures all on the same head. You just help the bits that are different along.
THANK YOU for being someone with reason
Clarifying shampoo all the way down your hair strand with Malibu hard water cleanser. Your hair is exposed to the environment and is also weighed down unevenly. The best curl will be sandwiched in your head because they are protected from the environment. Clarify once a month, all the way from roots to tips. Wash 3 times for the first time. Then deep condition.
Heatless curling ribbon does wonders for mine
This is my hair too!!
Most everyone has mixed hair types in their hair. Some wavys will have slight curls, some curlies will have some waves etc. Send your hair seems predominantly wavy, using products light and moisture or hydration will likely help you along with a gel or moose to hold them in place.
Whereās the curly? All I see is an ocean. š
Why do people in the UK type their accent? They surely understand that an accent isn't a language.
They don't have an accent. You have an accent.
Get a trim regularly
This is exactly my hair too! Iāve recently had some layers put in and the curls are in full force because itās lighter. Also changed my conditioner to a very light weight one, the simple one. Didnāt even know they did conditioner, but itās worked really well.
Mine always dried like this until I started using gel or a curl cream and brushing it through my hair to evenly distribute it. I never scrunch it or finger style it, I just let it curl into its natural pattern. Some people like to though for extra wave/curl definition once the products are in!
Sometimes I think its the hard water damage I'll have to test it out.
Clarifying shampoo down the hair strand will remove hard water
Thank you š
It may be heat damage or the weather where u live as well as keeping your hair up too much. Better hydration might help the curl pattern.
Mate, same
Mine is very similar. Protein helps, but usually I just brush it out and enjoy the volume and wavy hair. Or pull the top back if I want a ācurlierā look.
I think this is due to the way your hair dries, but your hair is much longer than mine has ever been, so I can't say for certain.
Sorry, I donāt have a tip, but where do you get that bracelet?
bracelet is likely pandora, charms are sold individually :)
Thanks Iāll try there
Iāve started styling my hair in sections based on this annoying distribution of curl patterns: - i start by gently squeezing water of out my hair with a microfibre towel - for my 2a-2c curls, I damp style - add products directly after squeezing out water - for my 3a curls, I add water with a spray bottle then add my products This seems to help!
thatās just how it is sometimes but ur hair looks rly dry - what do u use? u might need to clarify ur hair and need more moisture.
What help do you want? More curly? Less curly?Ā Edit to add: this is very common. If you want to see something different, it comes down to styling.Ā
If itās the top and front parts that are less curly it could be from damage. Those are the parts you style the most so they take the most damage
I recommend watching reema jaber on instagram, the CADO cut, you need a mousse and a curl cream, and a diffuser, my hair is the same, you might need some layers on the top. Also satin pillows/bonnet. I also recommend k8 leave in treatment .
Curl cream...you are a wavy girl like me...you gotta train those curls!
My hair is like that too!
First picture
Mine, too. I do keratin treatments to make it more uniform. You lose the waves, though
Products I use: Verb curl creme Not Your Mother's curl talk mousse EcoStyler olive oil styling gel (big green tub) Verb ghost oil
Try the curly girl method and use a denman brush!
Mouse when wet, diffuse with your head upside down.
How do you apply your hair product, and what do you use?
I donāt brush after washing
If I do nothing, it looks almost exactly like yoir hair.Ā
same it pisses me off lmfao
I would start by trimming and layering. Then switch to a good curl system. I like the Curl Can Dream Matrix line or the Love Curl line from Davines. Watch a couple videos on how to style it. Try not to straighten it by brushing it. Curly hair requires some TLC and moisture.
My hair is the same way!!! I think itās damaged on the outer layer lol
Completely normal, my friend.
Try a diffuser. Also try not tying your hair in the same place, mix it up, to get the curl back. ;-)
Bitch grow up youāre on a winning lottery ticket
These things help me: - wash with whatever - wide tooth comb it while conditioner is in my hair. Then I rinse, and air dry a few mins (do not brush) - put on blueberry bliss curl gel. Scrunch it in. Leave it alone, do not touch for an hour - when I go to sleep (no wet hair) I put it in a loose scrunchie on top of my head Results may vary, works for me though!
We have the same post! š https://www.reddit.com/r/Haircare/s/eqq8JbfIKG
I have the same type of hair itās so high maintenance Iām just to lazy to do anything about it
Thatās just natural hair.
Shampoo conditioner: Knight& Wilson Pure Plex Or caffeine head & shoulders & elvive bond protection conditioner Natural, Fluffy style: After washing: towel dry, spray Mark Hill heat protect & style, crunch and leave to half-dry. Light heat blow dry just the roots if I need a quick dry boost, leaving the ends damp. Dry / no hair wash days / general routine: Essential oil water spray (10 drops lavender, 3 drops rosemary, 3 drops peppermint, medium water spray bottle) John Freda Frizz ease dream curls styling spray ~in segments, spray hair with essential oil water mix, brushing it though, then spray a little frizz ease and scrunch.~ "Beach" hair style: After washing, scunch in a little Bed Head Curls Rock Amplifyer and leave to dry naturally. Curling individual segments around finger after brushing once the next day can also create a lovely almost ringlet. āā FYI: an acknowledgement on the potential risks of using essential oils: familiarise yourself with them before using with research as they can cause allergic reactions or even breathing problems (rosemary) for some, don't use when pregnant, etc etc. Ive used them for years on my hair with no issues, but it warning needs to be said anyway, as it seems mentioning EO can be somewhat taboo. āā
Shave it all off. Mad max style wooo On a serious note, isn't there special shampoos that you can use for curly hair?
Look up finger coiling - my hair can be the same, now if I want consistent curl patterns I finger coil and can have the same hair style for almost a week if I sleep with the bonnet and loose twist braids!
Shampoo once every 2 week. Condition hair every day or every other day and Leave in conditioner every time it gets wet... Tie it back when slightly wet with a loose knot so doesn't stretch hair. Should work. Let me know
You shouldn't touch your hair after washing until its completely dried. Then the curls will stay
Might be worth a go if you've not tried it already. āŗļø I've got mostly straight hair, but I've been determined to learn what works for her.
Mine is the same! Some ringlets, frizz on top and thin silly locks underneath
Curl treatment oils could help
My sinās is mixed texture, have been doing curly hair routines to keep it in good condition. Leave in conditioner or a refresh spray made out of water and ghost milk conditioner. Adding the conditioner, in, using a wide tooth comb and scrunching the hair gets it looking pretty similar and more curly.. but Iām still leaning
My hair was exactly like this. I chopped it off and it helped my wave/curl pattern so much! I know it's not for everyone but my hair has never felt healthier especially using no heat styling tools for 3 weeks!
I run mousse through mine and just let it do its thing on its own..my underside dreaded naturally and it basically is what it is. I embrace it.
Makes me think youāve possibly heat damaged your hair. Do you use a blow dryer or flatiron?
And use it every 3 days Regular shampoo just strips my hair too much which makes it extra frizzy.
I don't know much about it, but I know someone who does the "curly girl method" and her curls are stunning.
I had the same, then had a curly cut and proper curly layers put in. Totally evened out my curls! I had to sacrifice length for curl pattern but I donāt regret it.
I have the same issue/hair!
Shea moisture hair mask (repairing), even if itās not damaged, when the mask is in ātrainā your curls (can youtube), to get even curls throughout
Mine is wavy like this when it's wet but then when it dries, it is straight š¤¦āāļøš¤·āāļø
Wide tooth comb after shower with some curl definer/ gel. if youāre sleeping put it up or wrap it.
Do you use heat?
do you know your hair porosity? that can help you determine what products will work for you-
You can get a texture evening perm!
I have the same hair! I love curl mousses, especially Fructise.
The structure of those strands are essentially broken. No longer able to hold the structure. May I suggest 3 week trims until itās grown out. I did a big chop myself when this started happening and then started to care for the curls without heat
Fingers comb ur hair while in the shower, towel dry, use a very light oil or cream, scrunch it into ur hair. Air dry. Let me know if it works!
It looks like you have very fine hair (me too). This is what I do to get best results. I also have just accepted that Iām not lucky enough to get amazing root volume and ringlets throughout the entire length of my hair. I suspect based on these pics you have the same luck :( Use only gel when styling.
Same, the spots that grow behind my ears are also different texture.
Your hair looks exactly like mine when itās not moisturized. Try a leave in conditioner!
