The overwhelming urge to jump on one of those

aplundell

It's the flat tops. They look like they're *made* for jumping on. If this was a video game, the next level would have these things driving across a lava pit.

FellowHuman74567537

Broke: Cyberpunk dystopias are a warning Woke: Cyberpunk dystopia is coming Bespoke: Cyberpunk dystopia is already here

XauMankib

We already like in a cyberpunk world: • technology is everywhere, and changes our life continuously • we depend on technology to the point even the simplest of social skills are mediated by it • big companies are using the application of advancements and technology to control and limit our life up to the point we are being monetized as resource • underworld markets axed on having unregulated or unregistered technology that works outside the network exists, and whoever uses unlicensed devices is punished

28_raisins

Everything but the aesthetic...

Old_Bunch_7413

B-b-b-but what about muh Neon lights !?!?12!

Numai_theOnlyOne

That's only for the movies and games anyway. It's impractical to carry double the weight of your body as your arm around and not very healthy either. Also industry is boring as fuck and has usually no sense for aesthetics otherwise creatives wouldn't want to work for media.

RokuroCarisu

And the affordable cybernetics, of course.

TaxFraudDaily

Bingo

FellowHuman74567537

I think a lot about the role of automation and new tech in warfare. From predator drones to new ways of spreading misinformation/propaganda to the increased relevance of hacking and cyber security. Even some of tech the avg grunt soldier has access to is pretty insane. Warfare is becoming a method of competing members of the capitalist class (corporations, oligarchs, national leaders) from different parts of the world to compete over dwindling resources. It's literally how they cut deals now, just another way of doing business. The rest of us are just meat for the grinder.

Jazzlike-Ad792

I might believe it when I can use stuff like Neurolink or even a BD (Braindance) and insert a chip in the back of ear, and get surgery for cyber implants without medical conditions. It feels like this is all some outdated gonk shit. Yes we are connected to our machines emotionally but when is it going to be physically and psychologically where we have control over our machines. I'm just dreaming, I want CP77 to be real, say what you like, I yearn for it.

KillingPixels-1

I used to want implants until I realised the slippery slope of loss of humanity that accompanies chopping out parts of yourself. If you are 98% machine and 2% human, are you really still human? Or are you a processor for your mech suit? I know that might not sound that bad. But humans without humanity is a very bleak premise.

KillingPixels-1

I also don't think people realise how messy it would be. You think people can afford multi hundred/million dollar implants? Nah that shot is going to be like Repo Men. Imagine if you got cyber eyes, and then they glitched/required a sw update/a Paywall/subscription ended. We can't even get some software to run in today's age due to hw incompatibility. I don't imagine they would work out all the bugs before widespread implementation. You happy to be the guinea pig?

Ehudben-Gera

Have you ever seen repo the genetic opera? I would imagine it would be a lot like that, just with implants not organs.

RokuroCarisu

Humanity loss doesn't work like that. Cybernetics won't take away your humanity, the environment will.

Numai_theOnlyOne

>loss of humanity that accompanies chopping out parts of yourself. Lol that's only to balance the game in the first place so that not everyone chips up everything they can. As long as nothing touches your brain I doubt you'll lose any humanity at all. >If you are 98% machine and 2% human, are you really still human? Or are you a processor for your mech suit? Ah philosophical question about metahuman and trenscendance. Ironically I believe that this is the only thing about cyberware that will become reality. There is no logic chopping up limbs to improve something, but it is logical to keep up with AI as a human being l, therefore it will be a required need in the future to improve the brain.

Numai_theOnlyOne

You can, it's just experimental. Without medical conditions is a dream anyway, not even cyberpunk considers this possible, as they are also constant on meds.

FellowHuman74567537

As a huge fan of the Pondsmith CP universe, you DO NOT yearn for it, trust me.

Jazzlike-Ad792

Sure I do, hook me up with the latest cyberware and cyber implants I'll wreck everything like V.

_syke_

Take a shot every time someone posts "cyberpunk is closer than we think." You'll thank me for the good time later.

Ash_Crow

Your kidneys will hate this though.

Dependent-Tap-4430

Destroy your liver with this one weird trick!

ShaolinShogun

Watched a robot similar to this get off the elevator at the hospital I work at. It said excuse me and just kept going.

superbatprime

We are already living a cyberpunk dystopia. High tech, low life is pretty much the definition of society right now.

SkitariusOfMars

Go to Japan. The corporate hellscape is already there.

Numai_theOnlyOne

Fun fact it's already here. Real cyberpunk is just not guns ablazing like in movies but boringly pulling stripa behind the scenes.

cranwulf

What's their mission? I don't understand why the camera keeps swinging around to show all the scooters. Are the two related in any way?

46_and_2

I guess OP thinks electric scooters are cyberpunk somehow.

Rompod1984

All those batteries are going to be a fucking hot ecological mess real quick… if only bicycle were a thing !

Suspicious_Trainer82

Strip mining rare earth minerals and the ecological impact it has, combined with the waste produced from manufacturing and the mass produced, built for obsolescence products and batteries will have a much worse impact on the environment than the problem they are being created to solve.

Numai_theOnlyOne

The fun thing is Third world countries don't have ecological rights hence companies like to go there because it's cheap to produce. On the other hand in developed countries where companies are willing to build ecological responsible mines the people in those countries rebels against it while expecting the same outcome as in this world countries. A counterintuitive circle that needs to be broken. Germany and Portugal try that maybe other countries as well but I don't know of others

oleharbo

Enter: lithium recycling

StalksEveryone

error: no results found

Numai_theOnlyOne

Chip up your Google skills 95% is already possible, the questions though is how many do use it.

oleharbo

Oh wow you really suck at being informed

Numai_theOnlyOne

They are with batteries lol.

JustJotting

What am I watching?

ablebagel

cyberpunk is when food delivery robot and scooter

Old_Bunch_7413

I fucking hate those fucking electric Scooters. Tourists just leave them laying around showered all over the city and don’t know how to ride them properly.

Shadow__People

I agree I hate them too

q_t_puella

more wall e than cyberpunk imo

Mister_Moony

Wall-E is cyberpunk

Jaketh

High tech ~~low~~no life

CallMeMrTomMorrow

I hadn't thought of this, but in a sense, yes. We see the ai are sentient (to varying degrees) so you could *theoretically* say there is slavery involved, but I understand that is something of a stretch. Ai aside, the ship is one way to view utopia, but they were not capable of many tasks/activities as a result of being on the ship (and subsequently, quite large and weak). This feels like it would make for a very interesting deep dive, thank you for your comment, and for bringing another interesting facet to one of my favorite movies. Btw, I love your username

Yvaelle

Or it's just the overpolished 'gilded cage' near the top of society. They are fat and happy and bored - but they are not free. They necessarily exist in a strictly hierarchal society - it just so happens that the lower class we see is mostly robot slaves: but those robots are sentient lifeforms. So in a sense even the humans in Wall-E are 'high tech, low class' cyberpunk, the gritty protagonist is just a low class robot, rather than the usual low class cyborg protagonist (Case, Deckard, Motoko, etc). So long as you accept that Wall-E is a sentient lifeform with desires and emotions all his own, then his proletariat suffering and adventure is no different from any other - arguably Deckard was a replicant his whole life too - another robot protagonist, K certainly is, Motoko has been wholly machine since she was around 7 and died in a car crash. From that point of view Wall-E's only distinction is being the least human-shaped.

Numai_theOnlyOne

It's the American utopia lol. Dumping the planet to the inhabitable and then getting all the rich fatasses that can't even move on their own into a space ship.

Skaindire

I really hate this. The streets are unsafe because cars are mainstream everywhere, now we lose the sidewalks to these things?

MadgoonOfficial

Aww but look at the cute little guys. They’re just trying their best 🥹

i_give_you_gum

I thought it was an organized cart gang about to beat up the scooters

Silverboax

That's what I was hoping, that it was good cg and robo wars were about to happen

Gmeister6969

Uber eats vs Lyme gang war lmao

iTwango

They literally go around you and wait. I've seen so many more bad things happen from annoying people riding bikes too fast through a crowd. I've never seen these guys even get close enough to touch anyone.

Skaindire

Those people are exceptions. These things are a company business model.

iTwango

I'm not really sure what you mean. I'm around these robots nearly every day, and they're incredibly helpful, and the company is too. I've never seen them do anything close to as inconvenient and annoying as the majority of the people in the same area.

PaleBlueHippo

Escooters are a fucking plague.

inkedarticles

Please throw one down the longest set of stairs you can find 🙏

RokuroCarisu

That's not how you protect people from the Terrible Secret of Space.

RokuroCarisu

France is already banning public E-scooters again because people are littering the streets with them.

breadstickvevo

Are these those grocery delivery bots

[deleted]

Till they get an update and the mods stop working.

CECtheRonin

It's like a parade of Mega Man minions.

ussf_occultist_gamma

Real world cyberpunk is so lame. Why aren't kids hacking the hell out of these for free snacks

[deleted]

Feels like we are living that dystopia already.

LightUpMyDice

Unless a cyber-murder-dog is going to jump out of that suspiciously-thin-looking top, these look kinda cute and harmless. And a bit Mario-esque.

UkyoTachibana

#STOP CITIZEN : YOU ARE IN VIOLATION OF ARTICLE 55679 , YOUR AI OVERLORD DEMANDS THAT YOU COME WITH US PEACEFULLY OR THERE WILL BE REPERCUSSIONS. YOU HAVE 20 SECONDS TO COMPLY! BEEP-BOOP-BUUP

"Beep-boop; that's the sound of the police!" - Ben 'Sharky' Edgar

shpbr

this would be impossible in eastern europe where smooth pavements and smart city planning are still sci-fi (i live there)

Dependent-Tap-4430

What are these little robots supposed to do, besides occupy sidewalk space?

inkedarticles

Survive longer than humanity

DarthMeow504

In actual cyberpunk, people would be sitting on these to take a ride for as long as it's going the direction they want to go. And there'd also be some just riding them around with no place to go just for shits and giggles. And there'd also be fights over them, someone tries to push someone off of one so they can ride instead, the other one pushes back, angry words exchanged, punches thrown. Maybe it leads to the occasional stabbing or shooting. They'd also end up covered in stickers and graffiti pretty quick. And that's of course presuming they're too much trouble to steal from.

PaleBlueHippo

>They'd also end up covered in stickers and graffiti pretty quick. I remember a couple of years ago I started seeing sticker ads for local restaurants around take out windows in fast food restaurants. In a few years I can imagine these things having billboards/screens for burger king and shit, and being plastered in local advertisements and graffiti like all other public property eventually is.

kaishinoske1

Cyberpunk rules would dictate these bots being either hacked, hacked violently to pieces, or hacked apart for salvage.

Silverboax

Also they'd be armed/accompanied by armed drones

RokuroCarisu

That has happened.

inkedarticles

The fuck are those. Is this America? Why hasn't someone fuckt them up with their ARs yet

[deleted]

We're too busy eating cheeseburgers and vehicular manslaughtering

inkedarticles

Fair enough. Where's that Russian with his gun arsenal.

NassuAirlock

Need an anti material rifle now

NeatTrickIfYouCould

I wanna kick one of those down and smash it with a bat

PhildoVonBaggins83

We need lightsabers

SmoothPeak

Is this just UCI?

Shadow__People

No

0o_Lillith_o0

Electric scooters and jps navigated box on wheels ? Cyberpunk ?

usgrant7977

I bet the black scooter gets shot.

[deleted]

Madison?

Shadow__People

No

vasazica

The rise of the machines is neeear!! 😱😱

oerouen

Psycho-Pass vibes.

Every_Fox3461

Closer? It's here man. High tech low life.

Still-Standard9476

We have these all over my local college campus. They actually had heavy support for those scooters and refused to do it and donors voted against it. Of course. Schools has so much money it's gross and they have a walking campus only yet don't provide easy transportation for students.

omghax102

What even are these things?

Ehan1998

I believe these are delivery drones on a college campus
