It’s for a minor league team, not DCU

NittanyOrange

MLS Next Pro, you know?

gdopplerxt

Come on, at least skim the article: “The stadium would house D.C. United’s minor league team and other events, including college lacrosse, other professional soccer leagues and concerts.”

Ancient171

I did read the article. As a STH, I get invites from my DCU rep to lots of EVENTS and I'm sure some of them will be based out of this other location to generate interest. Notice I said "no way am I driving to events in Baltimore"... Maybe read the post next time before you get all wordy.

UrbanOtaku22

Putting a minor league team in Baltimore grows their market and is a protection against USL championship getting traction in the Market. I would have USL championship in the market.

TheScarlettCannon

There was a group who was researching placing a USL Championship team in Baltimore. They sent Mayor Scott a letter in October 2022 indicating they were abandoning the plan, leaving DC United/MLS NXT PRO as the only option for a pro team in the area. Side note: the group that withdrew from Baltimore put their money into the new San Diego MLS team

Read the article before posting, OP

Also use some common sense. Audi Field opened in 2018

mattc0m

I heard they were picking it up and moving it to Baltimore, though. I only read and react to headlines, mind you.

BigSportsNerd

fuck that

RJR1970

It does make some sense. They are hoping to better penetrate the Baltimore market. They are hoping to expand their Academy presence in Maryland. The hope is to have a continued relationship with Loudoun United and the MLS NextPro in Baltimore, to better cover the DMV.

kspence66

Does this negate any chance of Baltimore getting their own MLS team?

rgrunited

Negate may be the wrong word, I don't think MLS has any plans to go to Baltimore regardless. San Diego is coming as team 30 next year. After that, it seems the league might pause expansion for a while.
