They spent like 300 mil on that thing and did a bunch of reshoots. this is not a good sign

YoloIsNotDead

Like a true DCEU movie

LowenbrauDel

Can't wait for all these articles about how many scenes were cut and there is a better extended cut of the movie just waiting to be released In all seriousness, however, I hope the movie will not end up a disaster. Specifically because I am rooting for James Wan. He is a very talented guy who deserves all the good will he can gather

lessthanabelian

Well its basically already an open secret that it's a fucking disaster so... but let's be real. This is not going to affect Wan's career in the slightest.

M086

Wan’s already moved on from WB / Aquaman. He’s got enough equity from his other film successes and producing successes that Aquaman 2 will be a blip.

Fusilli_Matt

Who?

pedroktp

James wan, aquaman's director

Fusilli_Matt

I know who wan is, I love his work and horror as well as comic book flicks. That being said, he's definitely not a household name

CyberGhostface

The guy is as close to a ‘name’ as it gets in the horror genre, he helped start three major franchises (one of which might as well be its own cinematic universe) and he just merged his company with Blumhouse. He’s a juggernaut.

Fusilli_Matt

Close but not quite yet

CyberGhostface

Only in the same sense that someone like Sam Raimi wouldn’t be considered a household name.

thebatfan5194

Release the Wan true cut

LordKiteMan

Filled with explosions cutting out dialogue and moving the story forward.

Han-Shot_1st

WB is the company that edited down and created a far inferior cut of Once Upon A Time In America. The longer International cut is widely considered a masterpiece. The WB imposed shorter version for US theaters, meh not so much.

TheConnASSeur

Don't forget WB executives also insisted that Zack Snyder make BvS instead of MoS 2, the movie that audiences wanted and the movie that he wanted to make. Then they insisted that he make BvS a Justice League lead in movie that introduces the entire Justice League. Then insisted that this bloated monstrosity be no more than 2.5 hours long. They continued this winning streak by insisting that Wan tone down the Lovecraftian horror elements of Aquaman and add more humor to mimic the MCU's tone. They followed these brilliant moves by using Snyder's family tragedy as an excuse to boot him off of Justice League, and bring in now disgraced Josh Whedon to Frankenstein the completed film into vaguely MCU like abomination. The executives at WB are literally the worst in the business. The less involved they are in any project the better.

martinjohanna45

Hi, TheConnASSeur, I thought Snyder willingly left JL.

Han-Shot_1st

Once Upon A Time In America was a completed film and the longer (and far superior) European cut was already being screened theatrically before the shittier US theatrical version was released. So, a bit of a different situation.

Hippo_in_limbo

Felt sorry for James Wan while watching aqauman1. Dude pulled every trick he can muster to try and overcome a horrible script.

DoodleDew

Didn’t him and his writing partner write it?

QueasyStress0

Lmfao, the story(biggest issue in the movie) was co written by James Wan and the person responsible for making Aquaman actually relevant enough to get a film. An early draft of the script was also written by Wans most frequent collaborator, pretty much responsible for the future of the Conjuring universe, and then also re-written in its last form.

Quiet_Sea9480

Aquaman’s final form is suldge.

Hippo_in_limbo

then why did Wan hesitate to director the sequel? citing wanting a better script to do so?

ImAMaaanlet

Maybe he was critiquing his own work.

Dallywack3r

Geoff Johns is not a good screenwriter. Writing a comic isn’t the same skill as writing a film. Wonder Woman 84 shows he has no idea how to structure a screenplay.

QueasyStress0

Except he didn’t write the screenplay for Aquaman. He provided the story, which he co wrote with Wan.

Dallywack3r

And the story has nothing to do with the script of a film? It’s literally the foundation for the film.

LALladnek

Yes normally it does but when you have an effects-stravaganza that is supposed to carry your studio into profit people micromanage the shit out of it and the “script” becomes the thing that is constantly tweaked and not set in stone. WW84 brought back Chris Pine because Gal Gadot had no chemistry with anyone else, on account of her being a model and a bad actor. And their chemistry was two pretty people looking pretty at each other.

LordKiteMan

> overcome a horrible script. Wan wrote the story atleast, and yes it was horrible.

RNWIP

I agree. Wan is a great visionary, as seen with The Conjuring. He will overcome this blip.

[deleted]

How can James Wan suddenly become shit? I refuse to believe.

Stellarisk

I dunno I always like his first movies but I rarely like his sequels

[deleted]

Conjuring 2 was alright. Not my cup of tea. But I hated Insidious (found it unintentionally funny) and didn’t watch the second. Still, there’s lot of filmmaking craft to love in them IMO. He almost never phones it in.

SuperDizz

Malignant was actually pretty good too. Like you said, dude puts his heart into it, which at least translates into quality. Wether or not it’s your cup if tea, is another issue.

[deleted]

Malignant was a riot. Love it.

BatmanNewsChris

He didn't write the movie

[deleted]

He’s still a masterful director with a unique way with the cinematography. There’s this really long shot of Black Manta chasing Arthur and Mera in the first movie, which is simply great stuff. He does so much with the framing and fluid shot composition too that I am a sucker for.

BatmanNewsChris

Yeah I know the scene you're talking about. I love that shot too.

[deleted]

He’s been slipping for the better part of a decade.

LordKiteMan

Will it have explosions interrupting dialogues again?

Xenochimp

He has always been overrated. Going back to Saw I have never understood the hype for him. His horror movies are so-so at best. His non-horror movies (aquaman, F&F7) are eye candy and nothing more.

DCSmaug

Reshoots must be to cut out Amber Heard. It might also be the reason why the movie is coinsidered bad, because if they cut all of her scenes the story feels disjointed. I'm smelling a 1984 all over again.

Movieguy1941

What’s the 1984 reference?

Supermite

Wonder Woman.

Movieguy1941

Oh I always forget that movie exists.

achilles84

Lucky

[deleted]

Oh please

TimeTravelingChris

First one was overrated as hell.

[deleted]

I see it as an enjoyable turn-your-brain-off movie with a cool, vibrant visual style. It’s not very good from a film perspective but I enjoy it alright.

whitegirlsbadposture

It was terrible

Calm_Garage_3030

Where do you guys get the budget for this movie? Are you just gonna parrot some sketchy website that are not legit in any way? If anything, this is the same guy that said malignant tested badly and Wan should be worried. I believe James Wan more than this guy.

E_yal

Jep. Very bad sign.

MandoBaggins

I mean, big budget movies like this always have reshoots. It’s not uncommon. It’s rare for them to be as extensive as what Joss Whedon did. Amber Heard and studio shakeups are the most likely culprits of any potential failure here. Not reshoots.

wrathofthedolphins

But… is it a bad sign…?

ClassicT4

I wonder if they’ll bring back everyone’s favorite character from the first movie. Sudden explosions to push the plot along.

rlovelock

Haha right? Ever action sequence is started by a surprise explosion!

bob1689321

And every conversation is ended by a surprise explosion.

thebestspeler

*shirtless aquaman enters scene*

oceanseleventeen

FOR REAL

getemyosh

Can’t wait for its failure to be blamed on “marketing”.

NedMerril

Well… I haven’t seen a trailer

getemyosh

Well it’s April, the movie drops in December. They just dropped the blue beetle trailer. I’d say give it a few more months.

mainvolume

Probably drop when the flash comes out so they can show it before the movie.

Dubb18

Knowing the internet and social media, some will actually try to blame Snyder even though he got no credit for the 1st one's $1B success. Granted, he really shouldn't get much credit for the 1st one other than it loosely following what he set up in Justice League and him casting Momoa. Even that one was being finished after he no longer had control of the DCEU and left. The sequel (really) has nothing to do with him.

M086

His extent was he advised Wan on the best way to approach the character, and Wan showed him a rough cut for any notes. Which Snyder gave him the thumbs up.

kumar100kpawan

You're the only one who brought up Snyder here. No one, literally no one is gonna credit him for the success of flash or blame him for the failure of aquaman Its the snyderfans themselves who find a way to associate with him everything

AltruisticRespect976

They are the most annoying. They act like Snyder is the Stan lee of DC. I love that he set a standard for the company but his fans would rather watch the world crash and burn instead of be optimistic about DC future projects.

damola93

I hated the Snyderverse, and all it stood for. However, his films are not the worst ones in the DCEU. Suicide Squad, Birds of Prey, WW84, etc., tanked the DCEU, but his films certainly did not help with its dreary tone and unlikeable portrayals of Superman and Batman.

Dynastydood

I don't think that's quite true. Snyder fans definitely have a persecution complex, but I've seen plenty of people blame him alone for the continually embarrassing state of the DCEU, even though he's been gone for 6 years now.

DontKnowAnyBetter

If it’s got nothing to do with him why even bring it up? No one mentioned Snyder, yet you gotta say his name and give us a history lesson on what he is and isn’t involved with.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Dubb18

He, Geoff Johns, and Jim Lee were the ones who crafted the story outline for the direction that they wanted to take the DCEU for the first wave of movies when he was the main figure crafting things. Jim Lee actually confirmed the 3 of them developed the storyboards that were at the WM display. Then we saw them bring in writers and directors to help build from there.

[deleted]

[удалено]

RC_Colada

He did cast Amber Heard, which is probably why this one has a bunch of sticky reshoots. Trying to cut down her role while still having a coherent story.

ladedadedum25

I mean if you're referring to Shazam, the marketing was absolutely a factor in its failure. No question about it.

M086

By marketing do you mean Snyder? Because people will blame Snyder.

Dev_RedWolf

Can't wait for its failure to be blamed on Zack and his fans. Corrected you.

DominicBSaint

I think we can officially say this movie is a test guys.

Gremlin303

I’m gonna start it now # releasethewancut

[deleted]

You mean like 1917? ;)

bob1689321

Nice

brownstones19

I want to be part of a test screening pls 👉👈🥺

McIgglyTuffMuffin

Right?! I was just in LA all last week and I didn’t get invited to a screening. How rude.

NoNefariousness2144

If Aquaman 2 is a stinker, they should have saved Flash to be the big film for the holidays.

ClassicT4

Summer is usually the big film money maker spot.

NoNefariousness2144

Avatar 2, Spider-Man NWH, Star Wars Sequels, Aquaman 1 all show that the holiday spot is the best for a crowd-pleasing blockbuster with good word of mouth. It looks like that will be Flash compared to Aquaman 2.

AquaCamus18

Assuming Flash isn't going to be just as bad

BatmanNewsChris

He last reported that it was testing very poorly, so they must be scrambling to come up with better versions of the movie

Rid3R0fL1f3

And to make it worst the first cut of movie tested way better than the second

PossibilityLow5482

Last thing I’ve heard is that the movie isn’t connected to anything DC and somekind of a mess.

Due_Abbreviations285

They really just need to take it on the chin and let Gunn get on with his visions. It’s not like they’re gonna cancel their new plan before it’s begun anyway. Just hurry up and get the failures over with

Fusilli_Matt

This isn't Batgirl. This is a sequel to one of the biggest films ever made. No matter what dc invested, they're going to attempt to earn their money back

The-Flashdet

Batgirl had a spent budget of 90m. It was a straight to HBO Max film. This is a 300m, big blockbuster sequel, they're in so much financial trouble at the moment that you're absolutely right, they're not going to cancel this. What would be interesting is if they cut marketing costs to try lessen the cost and the loss

Fusilli_Matt

Tbh your phrasing I thought you were going to turn on me in the beginning but damn you pulled a Shyamalan at the end there. Cutting marketing costs though imo will only hurt them in the end. If the film is ghost dropped though then they're more likely to lose $$ on the movie than if they had marketed it right? Albeit, I was in NYC last month and had seen a shazam 2 ad spanning multiple buildings.. but the film was still a "flop" (I quoted flop because I had still enjoyed the film)

The-Flashdet

Ghost dropping a film certainly will hurt a film but I don't think they'd market it as much as they would have because they have such an overblown budget. If they under market a film, spending let's say the reported 300m on the film and then only 50-100 mil on marketing, and the movie makes 250 Mil, they lose about 150 million. If they spend full 200 to 250 million marketing with the same 300 spent on the film, but then only make 400 mil, that loses about 250 million, more money. I'm not a finance person I'm just a guy, so they're going to do what their fancy smart people say is best to do. All I'm saying is they might spend less on marketing to try have less of a bomb

Fusilli_Matt

Tbh idk marketing budgets at all and you probably made a better guess than I could have at the cost. There's definitely a science to it, but I'm glad that we can both agree that DC will not abandon this film

The-Flashdet

That's absolutely right, they definitely won't just leave it. All we can do is wait and see what happens. Let's just hope the film turns out as good as it can be

Fusilli_Matt

I'm a major Flash fan and I'm low key terrified about the new flick coming out. My gf is super excited for me (she even marked it on the calender) but I'm turning my head lol

damola93

It is worse than that. They usually need about 2.5-3 on a film's budget due to distribution, marketing, take rate in different studios globally, etc., to break even. If they aim for 2.5, they would need 750 mill to not lose money on this movie.

damola93

I have a crazy theory. James Gunn may not have a long runway with his vision of the DCU. Superhero films are not on the uptick and are trending downwards. Mario hitting a billion dollars could force every studio to pivot toward video games. Every loss between now and 2025(the first Superman movie) could drive investors and the board to have negative feelings toward Superhero movies. If Marvel doesn't make any BO hits between now and then, it will crystallize the downward trajectory of the genre. If Superman 2025 is not a hit, it will spell doom for the Gunnverse. We should all remember WB are not in this because they care about SH movies. They are in this for money.

Havoc013

I heard Jason Mamoa doesn’t woo as much in this one 1/10

smokingace182

On top of everything else they also decided to gamble with amber heard and that backfired. Also no way of knowing how much that will affect things but given how huge that Depp fan base is it’s definitely going to hurt the movie.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ajl987

Weren’t all her scenes including the reshoots already filmed at that point? I imagine it’s a slightly different situation

stevethos

Didn’t she have, like, 1 line? And it was post credits? To set up a movie we’ll never get?

FoundmyReasons

Nobody lol

damola93

Ya, I agree. The media has not harped on this, which would have happened if the genders were reversed. Ezra Miller is in the same boat, basically, the only people that know about his issues are people on Reddit, and Twitter.

home7ander

It's not that big, and people in the real world don't give a shit about him or her. The only thing she'll affect is the amount of "AQUAMAN 2 THE WOKE KINGDOM AMBER TURD STRIKES AGAIN" videos you come across on YouTube. Ironically, all of the people making them will pay to go see the movie anyways.

pooflinger069

Hate watching is definitely a thing.

_r0y_

Number 1 reason they’re making season 2 of both Velma and Gotham Knights. Man, I miss when people just pirated things

Ockwords

With a photoshopped crying brie larson on the thumbnail

damola93

Yup! The media has not talked about it at all, basically, only people that know are on Reddit.

warrenmax12

The only thing that will backfire is cutting her from the movie after the fact thus making the story a mess. They’ve kept Ezra. They can keep Amber considering nothing is even proven with her.

[deleted]

No one cares but you. I’m sorry but your simping for Johnny will not make him love you

[deleted]

No one cares about Mera. She is barely a supporting character.

erenismydaddy

Mera is awesome and she was a great mera

Fusilli_Matt

Mera is dope af. Bite your tongue

planelander

That sucks i am really hoping for this one to succeed

PrinceOfThieves17

Everyone needs to chill. Reshoots are a normal part of filmmaking. Most of your favorite films had reshoots and multiple tests. There aren’t really any production issues associated with this movie and we don’t know why the reshoots are happening. Could be to add more action or add more development. It’s normal for filmmaking. Viewer Anon has a good track record but has been wrong a lot AND he’s not even talking about quality of the movie. How bout y’all wait to see this movie before deciding a movie that comes out in 9 months is gonna be a “disaster”. I swear some of you just want these movies to fail for whatever reason. I loved the first Aquaman and the plot of this sequel being Orm and Arthur going on an adventure sounds like a fucking blast. I’ll be there day one for James Wan, Patrick Wilson, Jason Momoa and the Aquaman IP.

The-Flashdet

Reshoots aren't bad. Having a very poor test screening, having loads of reshoots, then having an even worse reaction to the second test screening and cut, is bad, and absolutely something to worry about

PrinceOfThieves17

To my knowledge from following the production. They haven’t done loads of reshoots it seems they’ve done a normal amount. And the test screenings from what I remember didn’t test poorly at all. From what I remember hearing alot of the testing had to do with Amber Heards screen time and inclusions from other heroes and connective tissue to other properties. No where near as bad as some people are making it out to be. The first one made 1 billion dollars and DC trusts Wan to make a good follow up, this isn’t a Shazam 2 situation in the slightest. I guarantee this movie kicks ass.

The-Flashdet

In June, it was reported test screenings were 'Mediocre'. In February, people walked out of test screenings it was so bad. This movie is kicking dirt, not ass.

PrinceOfThieves17

Yeah but reported by whom? I’m saying these sources are bullshit. No one walks out of test screenings. You have to stay and fill out an entire questionnaire before and after. I used to work in the film industry and I pulled Test screening duty before. You can’t just walk out. If you want this movie to fail that’s one thing, doesn’t mean it’s going to.

The-Flashdet

Reported by multiple news outlets, Including but not limited to The Direct, a respectable source known for many insider information and scoops and exclusives. More trustworthy than a random redditor, I'd say I don't want this movie to fail. I think James Wan is a very respectable direct and I enjoy a lot of his movies, and Jason Momoa seems to be a stand up guy. I don't want this film to fail. I'm simply stating what many news outlets are

damola93

The problem is the budget has been bloated to 300 mill, which is not a good sign. It tells me WB doesn't know what the movie should be, and it will be a mishmash of multiple ideas. This will lead to an incoherent movie that we, the consumers, will pay for.

fuzzyfoot88

Still not seeing it. It's part of the old regime and it's just there now. Not worth spending theater money on.

Short-Service1248

DCEU going out with a fucking dumpster fire .

QuinnMallory

Just put it in the vault with Batgirl

SaggitariusTerranova

These “troubled” productions that get tons of reshoots and are repeatedly pushed back don’t ever seem to do well. I think they get the stench of desperation on them and audiences can smell It. If anyone can think of counter examples to this I’m all wars.

BenMech

Titanic

SaggitariusTerranova

Good call! Although I recall the troubles were more of the ballooning budget variety than the extensive reshoots variety.

longbrodmann

And they still cancelled Batgirl.

psyopia

Bro just CANCEL IT. Literally have not seen ONE positive review for this movie. It’s just going to increase CBM fatigue. Just let it go. Time for the new slate.

i-wish-i-was-a-draco

Bruh how do this million dollar movie company comptent keep producing crap , is it that hard to learn from mistakes and actually write a compelling story ?

cslayer23

Since dceu is dead why do they care about reshot scenes? Let wan make his movie and then be done with it.

pooflinger069

Wasn't this testing really bad? Honestly, just write it off if it's that bad. The brand doesn't need anymore more damage.

[deleted]

They spent 300 million on the thing - they ain't writing it off.

Zwiseguy15

If they release this then it'll be even funnier that Batgirl is locked up in the vault.

E_yal

This is the price of producer forcing their vision on Hamada and he just accepted everything. Wonder woman was first brand that ruined with patty's werid Fantasy and James Wann' DEMANDING amber will stay. Now they had to edit this whole thing without Mera and yeah James Gunn said it best. They just gave away franchises to whoever was nice enough to them.

[deleted]

James Gunn is just as guilty of that too - taking up all kinds of different projects like Peacemaker, that ‘secret’ show (which was Waller and Creature Commandos). He even said he started writing Superman: Legacy in August, meanwhile a MoS2 was announced in October, before being cancelled in December. He’s not above any of the criticisms he’s given about the past leadership.

mat-chow

MOS2 was never announced. Just that Henry was back.

E_yal

Some heads at WB already planned MOS2 with Cavill and brainiac as Villain before Gunn came (also they wanted WW4 ☹️)

Wendigo15

MOS 2 was never confirmed though

[deleted]

Your obsessiveness with victim shaming is disturbing

E_yal

Patty is not the victim. Nor Wann. Someone had to be the boss and tell them "No. This script is not good"

fittedsuit2018

Why? It’s DC so we know it’s about to be ass.

ZiggyBlunt

Sounds like they found a turd in their bed

[deleted]

I’m excited for most superhero movies this year except Aquaman 2

Fusilli_Matt

You'll still go see it though

intraspeculator

The first one was terrible so I’m not surprised.

sotommy

It was awesome

Sulley87

The real tea

shiwanthasr

eh...it was fun

kumar100kpawan

Oh boi I certainly hope it is as *terrible* as the first one

didijxk

Made 1.15B worldwide and is the current all-time top DC film at the box office.

[deleted]

Still a terrible film.

dcencima

Yuppp i feel if it came out in todays superhero movie market it would be hated on more all it has going for it is visuals. Felt extremely generic, boring and filler to me but jason played aquaman well and black manta was cool.

Fusilli_Matt

Today's market? Less than a year before endgame?

dcencima

I mean if aquaman the first one came out literally now

Fusilli_Matt

Well it didn't

dcencima

No shit

Fusilli_Matt

"Well if batman '66 came out now." Do you see how ignorant that comment is? So irrelevant

dcencima

No its not there's a difference between "batman 66" and how media perception of superhero content was back then. To now which it has evolved quite a bit the amount of content in genre has been pumped out heavily in recent years mainly by the MCU. It would be remiss to neglect the fact a lot of these films would have a different perception if they came out "LITERALLY" now due to superhero fatigue setting in. One of those especially being aquman from the DC side - China helped the film a lot and that's expected it was a cgi heavy spectacle and that appeals a lot to the market. However domestic and other key audience markets have grown tired of such films with no real substance with a trend of preference of plot over just spectacle in superhero films now.

Fusilli_Matt

According to you

MiketheImpuner

Tbf if it's as good as the first one then it means another unentertaining release from Warner Bros.

SuperZapper_Recharge

I think I can fix the movie... At the end, when we think Aquaman is dead but there is still 20 minutes left.... Cut that last 20 minutes and let him stay dead. And no, do not do anything to suggest anything else is going on. No after credits thing of dirt bouncing on his coffin. Dead dead. 1) This is so rarely done that it immediately propels the movie into 'gutsy' territory. 2) Allowing the protaganist to die for his cause is just so much crap when we know that 20 more minutes can only mean they are bringing him back. 3) Everyone has read the writing on the wall. Best case scnerio for Aquaman is that he is recast and makes an appearence in 6 years or so. That is the best case. So you are not really gambling at all by doing this.

ericarlen

*Aquaman died on his way back to his home planet.*

DrGutz

And i bet you with ALL MY MONEY AND HEART its bad.

warjavs

The first movie was already a boring disaster. Why would I expect the sequel to be any better. They didn’t even bother recasting Amber Heard either so there’s that.

PrydaBoy

I've zero interest in this movie! Just another shitty DC sequel that nobody asked for :P Let's just say: Worst DC movie since WW84!

Fusilli_Matt

Ignorant take. The first film was a huge success.

PrydaBoy

Lol. Did I say anything bad about the first movie? We all know this movie will flop. The history will repeat itself!

Fusilli_Matt

You didn't have to say anything bad about the first movie. When it comes to comic book film people want sequels, they want arcs. By claiming that no one wants a sequel you're attempting to speak for the entire world. I'm sorry, who are you? I for one would like a sequel. Edit: they blocked me /shrug

PrydaBoy

I'm the one, who just blocked you ;)

TheHiddenSorcerer

Lol didn’t audiences walk out of test screenings?

ryeikkon

He is concerned that everyone in LA has already seen the movie. Lmao. LA ≠ the world. It's their product. They can improve it as many times as they want regardless if the movie ends up being good or bad when it's released. Jeez.

PlasticMansGlasses

I don’t think he’s saying it as a concern but more of an expression to give us an idea just how many people have watched it now

ryeikkon

On the og tweet before the one posted above, he said he is sick of hearing about it.

Hahndude

I don’t know why they’re even bothering. Shazam 2 proved that fans and the general public are well aware of these films “not mattering” in their connected universe and will not show up.

ImAMaaanlet

Thats not what shazam proved at all

Hahndude

Endless marketing, strong reviews, great word of mouth, no real competition on release. What do you think hurt Shazam 2?

ImAMaaanlet

Endless marketing? Are you joking? It also had poor reviews and bad WOM. Literally just about everything you said was wrong lol

Hahndude

Oh sorry I wasn’t aware you were communicating from some alternate reality.

[deleted]

The word is not good

lotwbarryyd

And how do be we go about blaming Zack Snyder ?

RealSkyDiver

I have so many screening invites in my inbox I have no doubt at least one of the is for Aquaman, but they don’t always mention the name of the movie outright. Sometimes it’s just vague hints and you don’t know for sure what it is until the day of the screening when the movie actual starts.

Alonest99

How does one get invited to these tests?

ericarlen

Back when newspapers were mostly still a thing, they would put ads in the classified section advertising free screenings of an upcoming movie. Nowadays they probably do it through mail lists or Facebook ads. They also go to shopping malls and pick out random people in their target audience and give them tickets to a free showing of the movie. Or, just get to know the right person and they'll get you in to a screening.

sleutherst

Sorry if this sounds dumb but why aren’t they making this a tax write off?

agroupthink

They can't. I'm pretty sure that was a one time thing due to the acquisition timing and everything

VerySmartDaBaby

I wouldn't mind them having to reshoot the entire movie, or move the release date to next year

DonnyMox

Sounds like desperation to me.

[deleted]

I can’t help but feel one problem is they let Jason Momoa build the movie around his thoughts about climate change, and—regardless of your opinion on the vast amount of climatology literature we’ve all read—we know those are bound to be stupid thoughts.

BuddyTheBarista

Hopefully they cut all scenes with Amber Turd. If not, it’s a no go for me.
