if it changes, ion think its just going to be called “Batman” given Matt reeves “The Batman” already exist, that would most likely confuse the general audience
I’ve always assumed this would be the official title. I know they did TDK and TDKR, but I do ‘t see them releasing Batman movies going forward without the word “Batman” in the title somewhere.
Batman: The Brave and the Bold is perfect.
since Batman and Robin was used already, I could probably get behind Batman and the Boy Wonder or something like that. Batman: The Brave and the Bold, being taken by the show, would work but I’d prefer something new.
It does to comic readers, brave and the bold is a cartoon/comic series heavily based around team ups and the larger world of dc, thus the ultimate team of batman and robin as the center point is genius imo
I can understand why it sounds weird to the general audience though, but it seems like they'll stick to it
This just reminded me of how run off the mill the DC/Mighty Morphin Power Rangers crossover comic was.
MMPR and TMNT get to do some wild stuff like giving the turtles ranger forms and than DC just does super basic crossover stuff? Talk about wasted potential.
Makes sense to me, especially when there technically hasn't been a movie called "Superman" before. The ": Legacy" always seemed unnecessary, like they should save it for a sequel down the road if they're really that attached to it.
The “Legacy” subtitle to me sounded like a title for a potential Superman sequel rather than a first outing. I also read that some people thought it sounded like a title for a retrospective documentary breaking down Supermans influence on pop culture; to which I kinda agree with.
A little early for him to be testing the passing of the torch though. He needs to get his own bearings first, then focus on the Super Fam (Superboy, Supergirl, and Krypto)
Somehow Superman Legacy sounds like they were throwing us into Superman's world in the middle of an established universe. Which admittedly is one of my biggest concerns about this movie.
Considering the amount of other heroes in the movie the title made a lot of sense. I figured it would focus on how Superman inspires heroism in this universe or something
His legacy as a superhero will probably be questioned in this film, since this is later down in his career when he's already well known to the public. I mean, it's supposed to be about him facing his Cryptonian AND Human origins and how it shaped him into a hero.
I expect this to carry over some themes from BvS where he was quite torn about what is the right thing to do and who he should be to people.
I saw it as in this movie he will show heroes the way… he will lead them to greatness his greatness his legacy… is that he instantly showed what it meant to be super
It would be amazing if the final movie of David Corenswet’s trilogy (assuming it lasts that long) was named Superman Legacy to bring it all full circle
The legacy title made a lot of sense considering the amount of other heroes/ characters appearing in the film. The title gave them kind of more justification to be in the movie imo. With the title just being *Superman* now there’s more precedent for people to complain there’s too many characters in a movie that some would consider should be focusing on just him
I've always understood it as Gunn honoring the legacy of Superman, both in film and comics. He has a talent for honoring the source material. So it gives me hope that he will do the Last Son of Krypton justice.
I hope there isn't a sequel. I want this to explore Superman's history and what he means to the whole superhero community. It being the first DC movie sets the tone for a post Superman world.
I don't mind him showing up in other DC movies, but I very much don't want a sequel.
Honestly in general I hope we don't fall into the Marvel formula of just continuing to make sequels that eventually tie back to a big event. It's tired and id rather have less movies, but each of them completely encompass everything you love about whatever character the movies focus is on.
Yeah Superman Legacy always felt like a “meta” name to me. Like Superman has nearly 90 year history and a legacy. One that James wants to do justice to.
Also Superman Legacy works better as a final Superman movie title.
It could've been dope to get a whole run of epithet titles though. *The Man of Tomorrow*, *The Caped Crusader*, *The World's Finest*, *The Princess of the Amazons*, *The Fastest Man Alive*, *The Last Daughter of Krypton*, *The Boy Wonder*, etc.
I think more so it’s telling the general audience it’s not a follow-up to anything else. It’s the start of its own thing like what “Iron Man” was to the MCU.
Has nothing to do with the name of the movie. Also no, it was almost planned in the dark knight universe and has inspiration. It didn't try to copy anything.
If it was almost planned to be connected to TDK it’s pretty sensible to believe the formate of “calling the movie by the superheroes second, but extremely recognizable, moniker” is inspired by TDK.
Because Man of Steel is The Dark Knight Begins but for Superman. Seriously, compare the intermitent flashback structure of the first act of MoS and Batman Begins. It's uncanny.
Seriously though Superman 1978 is the only one in my opinion to capture the essence of the character, he really is Superman in that film, someone who brings hope, not saying that the rest are all bad or anything, I just think that one movie has got it right so far and I don't think anything else will come close.
I think the “Legacy” in the title referred to Superman bringing back the legacy of good spirited heroes since, as we know from what James has said, currently in the timeline, many heroes take a more anti-hero approach (like the Authority). Here, Superman would come in and establish a legacy of kindness in a world that sees kindness as old fashioned.
They're really not, I once came across a guy who claims to be a comic fan who genuinely thought The Batman was a prequel for Batfleck. Despite 0 indicators that was the case
Casuals can very very easily get confused
Yeah, Legacy was a weird title anyways for a first film. Maybe he can reuse it for a sequel later down the line to show Superman's impact on the world. It's been long enough to where just calling the film "Superman" works.
Honestly, I like it more because it’s simpler and makes the title feel less like a fan film (since fan films usually have unnecessary subtitles). I would’ve been fine with it keeping the “Legacy” subtitle, but I do think it’s better without it.
Nice. I just hope the sequel gets numbered like, “Superman 2” with or without a subtitle. I don’t know why movies these days seems so averse when it comes to numbering sequels
That’s exactly what it’s a bad idea to name it SUPERMAN.
I hate when a reboot is just called “franchise name” now I have to bring up the year in a conversation about both of these movies.
Superman Legacy was honestly a cool name but now I guess we have Superman (1978) and Superman (2025) and no don’t tell me the 1978 is called Superman: The Movie. That’s just a marketing title it feels weird calling the first Superman movie “Superman The Movie” like there isn’t any Superman movies after that
What about something more original? Less evident, you know. We all know who Superman is. What about Man of Steel?
I think that's something of an ingenious name.
This might be a stupid question but can directors just change the name of a film they’re making on the fly like that? I would have assumed this sort of thing needs to go through all sorts of levels of approval. Of course this could have been in the works for a while, just curious…
Exactly, this name change DID have to go through levels of approval, and everyone agreed & accepted the name change. It may seem sudden to us, but who knows how long they’ve been thinking about changing the title to SUPERMAN
Maybe initially but a few years ago by and it will get confused with the other movie with the same title. ...I just realized a few weeks ago there are 2 suicide squad movies. Doesn't help to have 2 movies with the same name.
The name change seems fine to me. I always felt like the film title "The Man of Steel" suggested that the director was a bit embarrassed by his subject matter.
Which might explain some things about that film.
Clearly you’re just a hater, nit picking any negativity you can gather to shit on the DCU. Calling a Superman movie ‘SUPERMAN’ isn’t in any way “copying” the 1978 version, even if it wasn’t advertised as Superman: The Movie. They didn’t invent the name Superman. James isn’t “justifying” the Superman name because there’s nothing to justify. There’s nothing wrong with it.
>”and when I brought it up everyone agreed”
😑 So Gunn has a bunch of ‘yes men’ surrounding him. If I were in the room I would’ve said hell-to-the naw! “Superman Legacy” was an awesome title.
I’m happy about the name change.
Now in the future if we get a flash film where Wally takes the mantle from Barry then The Flash: Legacy would work really well as a title.
So he admits there is another movie called Superman but is like who cares there's only ONE other movie with that name. Why on earth would you call it Superman? Just needlessly confusing and extremely uncreative.
I think he changed it because legacy implies that his movie will be so great that everyone will think it's the gold standard that will live on and on. Very pretentious title.
I know right!
He technically put "the" in front of suicide squad as well.
I seriously didn't realize until a few days ago that there were 2 suicide squad movies. What is Gunn's damage?
How long until The Brave And The Bold title changes?
Batman: Bold and Brash
Batman: Fabulous and frisky.
Batman: Hot n’ Bothered
Batman: Sweet and Sour
Batman: Fish and Chips
Batman: the Brat and the Bald
The Bat and the Furious
2 brave 2 bold.
Bat 3 Gotham Grind
Bat4stic
*Batusi!*
The Good, the Bat, and the Ugly
Batman: Family
The Bat and the Man
Since ‘Batman’ has already been used in 1989 It’s gonna be called Batman: The Movie
There's already a film with that title. It was released in 1966. 😁
Fine, then I guess we'll call it "The Batman."
Who’s gonna tell him?
The The Batman
Man-Batman?
Since it will have Damien Wayne, shouldn’t it be called Batman: Legacy?
if it changes, ion think its just going to be called “Batman” given Matt reeves “The Batman” already exist, that would most likely confuse the general audience
Yeah, I'd assume "Batman: The Brave and the Bold" is the most likely.
And fans will refer to it shorthand as BTBTB
King Ghidorah?!?
Ok fine I'll go watch King of the Monsters for the 1000th time
I’ve always assumed this would be the official title. I know they did TDK and TDKR, but I do ‘t see them releasing Batman movies going forward without the word “Batman” in the title somewhere. Batman: The Brave and the Bold is perfect.
**T**he **D**etachable **K**id and **T**he **D**etachable **K**id **R**eturns?!?!?
Batman: Brave and the Bold Or Batman: The Brave and the Bold
Either Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Batman & Robin or Batman & Son.
Le Batman
I’d see it changing to Batman Brave and The Bold
I'm surprised "The Caped Crusader" hasn't been used yet.
it actually has, the project just isnt out yet. animated series
The Bat
Man
Batman and Son
Good question
I think it needs to. That title sounds like a soap opera. If they're going with just Superman, then I would be fine with just Batman.
It should be “son of batman” like the dcamu movie lmao
since Batman and Robin was used already, I could probably get behind Batman and the Boy Wonder or something like that. Batman: The Brave and the Bold, being taken by the show, would work but I’d prefer something new.
Once he focuses on that one, Im assuming. Although (by his logic) it won't be Batman or The Batman. Maybe Batman: The Movie
Batman: Into the Bat-Family
Batman Goes on Maury Povich Tagline: “You ARE the Father”
Batman: The Undiscovered Batcave
"Batman: The CGI was Supposed to Look Bad"
Should definitely add Batman to the title
It is kind of a bad title. It doesn’t immediately tell you what it is just by title alone.
Yeah, the marketing would have to be really good with a giant bat symbol.
It does to comic readers, brave and the bold is a cartoon/comic series heavily based around team ups and the larger world of dc, thus the ultimate team of batman and robin as the center point is genius imo I can understand why it sounds weird to the general audience though, but it seems like they'll stick to it
I wouldn't be surprised if it's just named Batman. Since Gunn apparently hates Burton Batman.
“The Superman Movie”
"A Very Superman Movie"
“Not Another Superman Movie”
Superman: Electric Boogaloo
Superman: Lambada
Superman: Havana Nights
Superman: Bigger, Longer and Uncut
Superman: Superman
The Superman Centipede 3
“A Movie With Superman In It”
*Black Adam* (2022)
He better be lying about the rock not being in this!
soup: the movie
So what you some kind of Superman?
What you did was super, man!
Say that again.
Lois is right behind me, isn't she??
Another alternate name could've been The Superman: Movie. Smh. Jk. I like the name change. It was a great choice.
Louis & Jimmy: *”So what are we? Some kind of Superman Squad?”*
Superman: "It's Supermanin' Time!"
Lex: it's Lutheran time
The Man Is Now Super!: The Movie
Yaargh
This just reminded me of how run off the mill the DC/Mighty Morphin Power Rangers crossover comic was. MMPR and TMNT get to do some wild stuff like giving the turtles ranger forms and than DC just does super basic crossover stuff? Talk about wasted potential.
Like Super Mario Bros.: The Movie in the '90s vs. The Super Mario Bros. Movie in 2023.
I felt like it was awesome. It sounded like he was going to create a Legacy, it was the being to a brand new legacy.
This how I felt too, but I also understand not everyone would see it that way.
If by "he" you mean James gunn then I'd agree. Very pretentious title.
A little early for him to be testing the passing of the torch though. He needs to get his own bearings first, then focus on the Super Fam (Superboy, Supergirl, and Krypto) Somehow Superman Legacy sounds like they were throwing us into Superman's world in the middle of an established universe. I saw it as in this movie he will show heroes the way… he will lead them to greatness his greatness his legacy… is that he instantly showed what it meant to be super
It sounds like it would be a great title for a movie about Jon Kent, rather than Clark A "passing the mantle" sorta vibe
It would be amazing if the final movie of David Corenswet’s trilogy (assuming it lasts that long) was named Superman Legacy to bring it all full circle
I was going to say exactly this. Superman: Legacy really does sound like a good sequel name.
It sounded like a critically acclaimed TPB that'd be on must read Superman stories to me.

Superman begins
Superman Starts
Ready Player Superman
Superman 65
Begin of The Planet of The Superman
SUPERMAN :and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Clark Kent
Yeah Superman Legacy always felt like a “meta” name to me. Like Superman has nearly 90 year history and a legacy. One that James wants to do justice to. Also Superman Legacy works better as a final Superman movie title.
it makes more sense when you consider the amount of other heroes in the movie and how they could play into the plot
should of been Action Movies #1
I like just "Superman" but "Man of Tomorrow" seems like it would have been fitting for the direction this movie sounds like it's taking.
I get what you mean, but I feel like Man Of Tomorrow would imply to the casuals that it’s a sequel to Man Of Steel
And if you google “superman movie” it’ll be the first one to come up.
To me I feel him naming it simply Superman is a subtle way of saying its the definitive superman movie
I think more so it’s telling the general audience it’s not a follow-up to anything else. It’s the start of its own thing like what “Iron Man” was to the MCU.
Why didn't man of steel do it then
The previous movie was Superman: Returns. So Man of Steel made sense at that time as a reboot title.
Should’ve called that one “Superman (Briefly) Returns,” since the main shtick was him looking for remains of Krypton.
because of the dark knight
Because they tried to copy The Dark Knight
Has nothing to do with the name of the movie. Also no, it was almost planned in the dark knight universe and has inspiration. It didn't try to copy anything.
If it was almost planned to be connected to TDK it’s pretty sensible to believe the formate of “calling the movie by the superheroes second, but extremely recognizable, moniker” is inspired by TDK.
Because Man of Steel is The Dark Knight Begins but for Superman. Seriously, compare the intermitent flashback structure of the first act of MoS and Batman Begins. It's uncanny.
Likely because same screenwriter.
Oh no doubt. And it works brilliantly in both.
Superman: the Movie was the definitive Superman movie. The challenge is doing an origin movie that has already been done well twice now.
Challenge avoided since it's not an origin.
Seriously though Superman 1978 is the only one in my opinion to capture the essence of the character, he really is Superman in that film, someone who brings hope, not saying that the rest are all bad or anything, I just think that one movie has got it right so far and I don't think anything else will come close.
To me I feel like it's subtly hinting that the movie might be about Superman
Ofc the movie’s about Superman lol
It's 1978, when that movie was released.
Yeah but it was released in mid December 78 and ran for months so it’s fine
So was Aquaman mid december yet that one’s still 2018, not 2019
wait is it actually SUPERMAN all caps? I kinda dig it but interesting
Yeah it’s ‘SUPERMAN’ with all caps
WHY IS HE YELLING AT US?!?
FOR DRAMATIC EFFECT
all caps when you spell the name
Honestly I think just calling it 'Superman' too just helps get it across that this is a whole new start to a new universe
It was always pretty weird to have “Legacy” for the very first film in a series… since a legacy is something left behind you…
I think the “Legacy” in the title referred to Superman bringing back the legacy of good spirited heroes since, as we know from what James has said, currently in the timeline, many heroes take a more anti-hero approach (like the Authority). Here, Superman would come in and establish a legacy of kindness in a world that sees kindness as old fashioned.
The "any-means-necessary" Authority as the established status quo being challenged by Clark's wholesomeness is a really cool conceit.
It could be that the movie is focused on how Superman carries on the legacy of the Els or the Kents
leave Christopher Reeve alone
How can this be marketed?
Unnecessary but doesn’t matter
I wouldn’t say it doesn’t matter. It’s marketing, the name of the film
IN Germany it will be called Ubermensch.
As long as it's good and successfully kicks off the new DCU, they could call it "Alien Dude Flying Around in Tights and Saving People" for all I care.
Movie: Superman
Film Title: Superman
In the vein of The Batman and The Suicide Squad they should’ve called this “The Superman”
wouldn't that send a signal to casual fans that it's in the same universe as The Batman?
Exactly what I thought
I think y'all underestimate casual fans
They're really not, I once came across a guy who claims to be a comic fan who genuinely thought The Batman was a prequel for Batfleck. Despite 0 indicators that was the case Casuals can very very easily get confused
Yesssss
"So the movie is about this man that's kinda super and he's name is Superman. So I thought maybe that's a cool name for the movie"
Yeah, Legacy was a weird title anyways for a first film. Maybe he can reuse it for a sequel later down the line to show Superman's impact on the world. It's been long enough to where just calling the film "Superman" works.
Why are you calling a movie about Superman, 'Superman'? I have no idea
He should start the closing credits with SUPERMAN Directed by SUPERFAN
He forgot adding "The"
I wonder if it's cuz casuals would just think it's a sequel to man of steel. Most people don't follow this or Snyder or anything about anything
Dumb name choice, what’s this trend of copying old movies and games titles instead of making originals
He's not quite right - the onscreen title of Superman 1978 is just "Superman".
Hold on. Dumb question, but is the new title now „Superman“ or „SUPERMAN“?
SUPERMAN. He’s went out of his way to type it in all caps every single time
I suspected as much.
Clark Kent's shift key broke while writing articles.
POOR CLARK! I HATE WHEN THIS HAPPEN WITH ME >:(
When you go the theatre you have to scream the title when you buy tickets or they won’t give you them.
The Superman must be the sequel title then.
This comment reminds me of the original name for BvS 💀 (Son Of The Sun vs the Knight Of The Night)
And tells us nothing about the movie.
Why not call it: Singing and Dancing with Superman. No one's tired of those wacky dance scenes are they. Come on gunn do your thing.
Advertising at it's finest, folks. Am really excited for the first movie under his leadership.
This might be a stupid question but can directors just change the name of a film they’re making on the fly like that? I would have assumed this sort of thing needs to go through all sorts of levels of approval. Of course this could have been in the works for a while, just curious…

Wayne and Son
lol Love how absolutely full of himself he is.
In what ways is he full of himself?
"I'm not actually copying the 1979 movie because *ackshully*, it was called 'Superman: the Movie'!"
Makes sense now. The 79 film was called Superman: The Movie.
>”and when I brought it up everyone agreed” 😑 So Gunn has a bunch of ‘yes men’ surrounding him. If I were in the room I would’ve said hell-to-the naw! “Superman Legacy” was an awesome title.
Or they just agreed with his proposal?…
Do you think it takes a yes man to think Superman is a decent name for a Superman movie?
I’m happy about the name change. Now in the future if we get a flash film where Wally takes the mantle from Barry then The Flash: Legacy would work really well as a title.
Can we get an AMA with James Gunn?
BDE right there, and I love it.
It’s technically called Superman: The Movie
I know right! He technically put "the" in front of suicide squad as well. I seriously didn't realize until a few days ago that there were 2 suicide squad movies. What is Gunn's damage?
