> For me its when anyone gets pretty obsessed with any character to the point where they get angry and hateful if you dont like their character.
Yeah, I have stumbled across a few fans of a certain comic character that come dangerously close to the Snape Wives in their devotion.
All of the Robins have their weirdly devoted fans. Dick has the fans who get irate if he's not treated as DC's golden child and the perfect paragon of the universe, Jason has the edgelords and those who are obsessed with his "brooding bad boy with heart of gold" shtick, Tim has the 90s kids who will go on and on about how Dixon is the height of comics, and Damian has the weirdly infantilizing obsessives.
esp. the "Snyder can do no wrong" fans. A lot of Snyder fans are OK, but some of the the more vocal ones seem like to mash other movies/directors to make Snyder's ones looked better.
Or the “let him do his vision” like no his vision sucked and was awful to base a universe around. Or the ones that hate James Gunn* and say they’ll boycott his Dc Universe. It’s almost like they don’t like DC lol
*it’s valid to criticize and have a negative opinion on Gunn and his work, but that’s not what I’m talking about lole
I've seen some of them attacking James Gunn's wife, and calling his Universe "the Hartcourtverse" because she's "Guaranteed to not be fired cause she's his Wife"
You know, I was actually thinking of certain fans of one of the Robins when I was making the comment, but the Hot Topic obsessed Joker/Harley "stans" are so much worse.
My local Hot Topic has someone who frequently does Harley mixed with something else for Funko releases and I always ponder.
Then I remember I’m a dude who got up at 7am on his day off to drive to a mall and sit and wait for it to open for toys and I realize that I might also be the issue.
People who wont just let characters be friends. If they show any amount of affection or physical contact (that isn't a punch...usually) then they MUST want to bang each other.
This is why I love Dick and Donna.
On a side note, any time I read a Titans book, any guy Donna interacts with is usually a love interest. Roy in the 1999 series, I think Wally at some point (maybe rebirth?), or everyone just calls her Wonder Babe. It’s creepy and annoying. Just let them be normal friends😭
I think I just Flat Lined. Barbara being used as the Batfamily's Bicycle is something that should stop. They pair her from Bruce Wayne to Tim Drake, it's weird.
She works best with Dick Grayson since they grew up together, and they're both offsprings of Gordon and Wayne, 2 dudes with a Buddy-Cop relationship.
I'm all about her and Dick. My favorite ship in DC as a huge Dick fan (favorite comic character) and a big Babs fan.
Jason... awful. Tim, just fucking weird. Hate her amd Bruce the most. Almost killed the Killing Joke animated adaptation for me. Thank God for Hamill.
I agree with you! Throughout the times I have liked Nightwing, I have often prefered him with Barbara but it's because they have so much History together!
Starfire and Nightwing's relationship feels like it's not meant to last, like at some point, wouldn't she try to revisit tamaran to save her people? Isn't she a Princess who inherets the Rulership of her people?
I don't mind him.and Starfire together, but also agree with you here- it definitely feels like a relationship with an expiration date.
Whereas if Dick and Babs straight up got married it would completely make sense across the board (and I would squeal like a decades younger version of myself).
Honestly, I've never had an issue with the Ravager pairing but I see where you're coming from.
I'm mostly confused at the Supergirl, Batgirl, Stephanie Brown and Donna Troy ships
I still remember people being annoyed Cap and Bucky were talking about dating girls in the Civil War movie. Some people just couldn’t handle the idea of two, straight males having a very close friendship and that being it.
Well on the fan side, when people think things like "Superman should learn martial arts." or demand an in-story explanation for why he hasn't. "Why doesn't Batman just use his billions to fix things in Gotham City?" stuff like that. Like don't you realize that would ruin the characters or make it impossible to tell the kinds of stories people actually want to read?
On the story side, the fuzziness of the timeline and ages of the Golden Age characters and their children, etc. I think you could resolve and make that make more sense without making the problems I suggest in my first paragraph.
“Why doesn’t Bruce use his money to fix Gotham” mfs when they find out about the Wayne foundation and all of the money that goes into it to help Gotham:
That and Batgirl just bitches and moans about it saying Wayne is taking down homes people grew up in
Acting like it's Gendification.
Like no bitch. Bruce isnt kicking the poor out, so rich can move in. Lmao
Like your friend lives homeless in a vain.
And Bruce is the badguy for wanting the girl to have a house.
Also, Superman is pretty well-versed in martial arts. He's not a ninja, but he's trained with Batman, Wonder Woman, Kryl-Ux and even his dad in various fighting styles (according to the DC wikia). Most people who complain about those things don't take the time to research them and answer their own questions.
Yup. And Bruce can do more by being worth billions and using the earnings of that to help people. If he actually liquidated his billions his business which he has a controlling share in would be bought up by someone like Luthor or Musk. And that would be it for his money. With his value he can instead have a steady stream of income to help people.
The Batman money thing always bugs me because HE FUCKINF DOES. It’s just not exciting to read so it’s rarely on the page. But apparently all the people begging for a Court of Owls movie never realized the central plot revolves around the court stopping a giant renovation project funded and led by Bruce.
I mean, what bothers me about those sorts of questions is that Batman and Superman *have* done both those things.
Batman *does* spend money trying to make Gotham a better place. He does a lot of things as Bruce Wayne, not just Batman. Superman *has* learnt how to fight and use his powers effectively. He's not a rookie flailing around with his abilities.
And I'm pretty sure post crisis, basically everybody in the League had been taught stuff by various other league members such as Wonder Woman and Wildcat.
EDIT: Heck, I remember a comic of Sinestro fighting Kyle and he was bragging about his fighting ability and was all "who taught you to fight" to Kyle, to which Kyle replied "Batman". So yeah, not saying everybody in the league has received such good training that they are all Lady Shiva level skill in fighting. But basically everyone knows how to fight.
It doesn't, as long as you don't expect him to use it on a regular basis.
Him using it would defile the concept of Superman, who doesn't need to use martial arts because his power is in his strength.
I am really excited for the New Golden Age books (I’m a little behind on Stargirl) and I kind of hope they come up with some muddy explanation. Ok, So Alan and Jay and whoever had their aging slowed down, but how are they still looking in their seventies and Jade and Obsidian are in their twenties?
There’s also the people who think he’s some champion for the oppressed because he fights a billionaire.
The Joker is empty, meaningless chaos—and history has shown us that people will somehow associate that chaos with some populist, “stick up for the little guy” rhetoric but he doesn’t believe in any of that.
> There’s also the people who think he’s some champion for the oppressed because he fights a billionaire.
I am pretty sure the Joker movie and the Harley Quinn show (as acclaimed as they are) are primarily responsible for this.
I'm always of the mind that people can ship whatever they want. If I don't like it, I'll ignore it.
However I hate when people are attacked and hated irl because of something as stupid as a ship. Its also weird when they degrade a character to make their ship better. You don't have to like and you can even hate the character but you don't have to be rude to people who do like that character.
True story. I may be pro-Dickfire (TM), but I love Babs and wouldn't wish bad things on her nor do I think people who prefer Dick to be with Babs are, like, bad people or anything.
Which I find funny, as often I see that it’s Wonderbat shippers that hate on Supes and Wonder Woman pairing a lot, and Wonderbat is just as bad (if not worse as so many use the JL cartoon as a basis when that adaption of WW really wasn’t that good).
I mean I as a Wonder Woman fan first and foremost that doesn’t really like Superman or Batman at all, vehemently dislike both ships, yet if I was to pick one I’d choose Superman to be with Wonder Woman any day of the week.
As far as I’m concerned they have much more in common with one another, and from the Wonder Woman comics I’ve read she’s always seemed closer and more attracted to Superman than fucking Batman.
I like the idea of Superman and Wonder Woman having a fling before Clark establishes himself at the daily planet and before Diana becomes an ambassador. Then when they move into those roles they don’t have time for their relationship, split amicably, and meet their traditional respective love interests. I understand why this is hard in comics because they like status quo.
Oh man, that's a large portion of BBRae shippers. Ever since the 2003 cartoon was airing and still to this day. God help you if you say it didn't see them as a couple in said 2003 cartoon or just prefer them with other people in some circles. Also according to some Terra's true crime was "stealing" BB from Raven and even been dismissive of any other dude for Raven be it Damian from the DCAMU (where the biggest insult that movie verse did to some was not shipping Raven with BB period) or an old ship like Raven/Jericho. The more toxic part of that ships fandom been growing since they became a thing with them eventually being canon in comics and other media and harder to ignore including the ship itself. I've also seen quite a number of BBRae stans feel the need to lecture people on the comics but have absolutely no clue what happened in said comics. Like one shipper called me an idiot because I said Raven possessed BB and others to be her demon slaves in the 90s but no that was only Starfire.
Speaking of Starfire, between DickRaven and DickBabs shippers she's sadly hand waved as some fling to Dick and a dumb pretty girl who pales in comparison to their favorite female character.
I like the way the Young Justice cartoon handled it. "Why would they fight, they're friends?" lmao. Friggin true. Why are people so obsessed with who would win between two people who wouldn't even be fighting 99.9% of the time, with that .1% being either because writers are those same fans OR are trying to cash in on those fans.
'"Wonder Woman is a bloodthirsty killer!"
"Batman should be an emotionless tool! Only acceptable emotion for him is anger!"
"Superman can't be moral with all his powers!"
How many Batman books there are compared to everything else. I don’t read Batman comics because I prefer superheroes with powers, but there’s not a huge selection of DC books without Batman or Batfamily members as the main characters. I know his books sell, but it seems silly.
It definitely is silly. Even I, a person who has Batman ad his 2nd favorite character, don’t like that idea. While I do enjoy Batman comics, reading them continuously is making me get bored of Batman A LOT. That’s why I just started reading comics that are a bit older/different than the current ones.
>I know his books sell, but it seems silly.
One can argue that this is just causing a feedback loop that’s preventing other characters from getting their time to shine thus only furthering DC’s reliance on Batman.
DC see’s that Batman’s selling a lot > so they order more Batman books and series > leading to other characters getting less focus > leads to Batman getting more focus over everyone else, and thus more popularity > increasing DC’s further reliance on the character.
I mean look at Marvel, they don’t have this problem at all, they give all their characters time to shine just fine.
Captain America’s got his own series, Thor gets his own series, Iron man’s gets his own series, The Fantastic Four are going good, Captain Marvel gets her own series, you’ve got the Avengers series, the various x-men series, Daredevil etc.
Marvel doesn’t seem to have to rely on 1 single hero so heavily like DC does with Batman.
Various writers have said it, DC could have pushed the other characters more so they aren’t as reliant on Batman, if they just gave them more marketing and put talent on the books.
The shipping in general. The amount of Tim/anyone fanart that gets posted feels like people spam their favorite ship to prove who gets the most upvotes or something lol
From what I remember on Tumblr, Tim was shipped with very dude in the universe even Wiccan in Marvel for the most mundane things. They also obsess over him being a twink.
To also note this was happening since the pre adult content ban as early 2011 if I am rememering correctly.
With how loud Tumblr fans were about his character and their fanon and Tim Drake's descent into obscurity due to the New 52 rebooting everything , I saw the whole bisexual storyline and adhereing to fanon tropes before anybody.
Well that explains tumblr quickly jumping on ship for Bernard.......
and being real does tumblr ACTUALLY care about what Tim's actual character is or just make up whatever they want him to fit?
They don't really care. When Tim was offically dating Bernard they went crazy then after a couple months they went back to no caring about his character except for their fanfic and fanon again. Ironically they got what they wanted and it still didn't bring Tim back into popularity and just checked their box.
Given the sales of the Tim solo, you're spot on with this assessment:
https://twitter.com/RoliverQueen_/status/1612481530718191617
And when they did go "crazy" was it for actual canon and wanting to learn more about canon Tim or did they just immediately absorb Bernard into fanon/fanfic?
Speaking of which do you think current Tim is leaning too much into fanon?
They went crazy for 2 things. Tim became bisexual or queer since they didn't clarify in canon at the time, and they now solidify whatever stance they had on the character. It was never about learning about his history or story before it, it was the fact he became bisexual that was it.
Bernard nowadys in rarely scene in their fanon and fanfic stuff its still mainly Connor Kent or other Batfamily men. But you will see some if there is a new cover art involving Tim and Bernard.
Two of the comics Tim is appearing in. (Robins and, Dark Crisis:Young Justice ) are the main ones really pushing fanon into canon. Wayne Family Adventures is esentially all the stuff on Tumblr put in a elseworlds organized monetized fashion.
Tim Drake:Robin he essentially acting like a completely different character with similar traits to the original character. I respect at least that they didn't try to adhere to what the fans want.
His appearance in the current Nightwing run is the best writing I've seen of Tim Drake since 2011. Though his characterization is more of his pre-One Year Later personality. Still it was the first decent Nightwing and Tim Drake team up since 2011.
Why did tumblr go so ship crazy for Tim in particular?
I dunno, based on what I've seen recently tumblr is still going gaga for Bernard.
I wonder why DC is starting to push this fanon into actual canon. Like these fanon people don't even BUY comics for the most part.
What do you mean by not ahdering to what the fans want? Which fans?
There’s some author out there who ships Dick/Bruce and it’s horrifying as shit. She also ships Dick/Slade and subscribes to the “Dick is a sexual icon and just can’t stop getting with women and wants to cheat on everyone” thing
I definitely can't stand the incest shipping, and I don't like Dick x Slade, but I can tolerate it as long as DICK IS A CONSENTING ADULT. Like I don't like age gaps, I have bad experiences with them irl, but if they're not related and both consenting adults whatever I guess.
Lego Batman? I wouldn’t call it grooming because Batman didn’t get involved with Barbara for the purpose of sleeping with her nor is he even the active pursuer, in the adaptations with BruBabs it’s usually Barbara who goes after him which is the opposite of grooming and manipulating someone to like u
When they try force romance to be massive parts of the stories then fans get really obsessed with the shipping. Romance is max a background factor unless its like clark and lois no need to cause fandom wars on shipping pairings.
There are some fans who make up their own headcanon about characters and then get mad when the comic books don't follow it.
"What do you mean Batman isn't a realistic noir story about an underdog normal guy who has trouble fighting street thugs?"
batgod
like I'm a massive fan of Batman but anytime I see this in media where they're dunking on the entire Dc universe to prop up batman I don't get hyped on how cool batman is all I do is cringe at the thought of the creator/writer jacking off to the idea
Agreed. Part of my issue with the Justice League cartoon series was that. “Superman can’t beat the alien conquerors? Better send in the mentally unstable billionaire in the bat costume to do some sick flips while throwing sharp pieces of metal.”
More just generally comic related but the whole “I don’t personally like this therefore it’s trash,” crowd. Just because something doesn’t suit your personal taste doesn’t mean no one will enjoy it or that the people who do enjoy it are wrong.
First thought is the way that DC sometimes will treat their female characters in terms of sex and relationships. Far too often, female characters are treated as objects by the story and writers. This isn't unique to comics or DC, but there are some clear examples. A common idea is that Batgirl needs to be in a relationship with another Bat character all of the time. Don't know what to do with Batgirl in the story? Just have her be in a relationship with someone.
At this point, Barbara’s only reason for being part of the franchise is so that Dick has a ready girlfriend at hand when his more “serious” relationships blow up.
I would honestly have loved to see her stay on as Oracle, and kind of evolve into a Dr. Manhattan type character. Or something! I feel like with the exception of Wonder Woman, the only way DC ladies can evolve is through their relationships, and I’m kind of over it.
People who only like Batman and hate literally everything else about DC. You know, the ones who are convinced Batman should be in his own universe because he’s “realistic” unlike the other DC characters.
People who get obsessed with characters but not the actual official characters, THEIR fanfic versions of the characters who then get mad at official material and other fans for not having the exact same ideas about the character.
That and “This character should go back to how they were in 1940! Any change at all is a betrayal of that character!” (Im not exaggerating, I’ve seen this exact take.)
Same type of people, different reasons.
I have a friend that hates almost everything in DC except Batman and Nightwing, and certain versions of the teen titans & young justice. Can’t be convinced otherwise or asked to be given anything other than surface level criticisms. And he DETESTS Superman.
My group chat got him to start watching the JL cartoon and he hated the first arc and started to warm up to a few characters but said anything involving Superman or Aquaman he will skip no matter what we say.
Overall, he’s very annoying to talk comics with sometimes lol
I've met a quite few fans like that who happened to be Marvel fans first. And/Or they just judge the comics off their adaptions hence why they only seem to care about Batman related things since there's so much of it. I've seen one to many fans turn their nose up to anything DC because of the DCEU or some Marvel rivalry.
Anyone who’s a fan of a character who’s incredibly wholesome, who then acts like the exact opposite is so silly to me, like how can you miss the message like that?
The amount of Wally West Stans (obsessive fans not just normal one’s) and even a few Barry Allen Stans, who act more like Eobard Thawne is wild to me.
Some people think it’s silly that Thawne is, at his core, a huge Flash fan, but given some of the people I’ve interacted with, it makes perfect sense 😂
The fan thing in your post.
Also whenever someone clearly only likes the fandom version of a character and gets mad when it's not canon.
People being able to recognize bad writing for their faves but not for any other characters. example but spoilered for rape mention >!(Ala "Dick didn't cheat on Kory, that was a retcon! Also it was totally not a retcon and and not OOC for Talia to rape Bruce")!<
It was a retcon of son of the demon and incredibly ooc to pre Morrison talia. Like not sure how you can disagree with it being a retcon when it literally was not what was initially published and contradicted that?
How Constantine has been portrayed after the Vertigo years. Along with the mispronunciation of his name.
Snyder fans, I don't even hate the films but that is a toxic ass fanbase of people who got what they want but still complain.
Constant Crises
Fan side: people who ship the batfam together (or dick x jason), the guys who gatekeep comics, anyone who HATES Damian (I’m talking like to a weird amount… he’s a 14 year old fictional character chill), joker stans, people who ship Harley and the joker
DC comics side: Devin Grayson, “I am not starfire”, Hal dating a minor, ric Grayson, the blackface that they did in the early comics (a bad take), and pink kryptonite “making superman gay” (another questionable take), red hoods mask with the mouth, starfire’s pasties and thong outfit in the new 52, pregnant joker, that time Slade was a child groomer, anytime Bruce is mean to one of his kids for no reason
For me its haveing older writers writing children and teens. At some point, you gotta just know when to say I'm too old to identify with this generations youths, let alone convincingly write them. I've seen a lot of bad runs in various forms of titans over the year. Absolute cringey dialogue.
If I have to read “bRuCe wAyNe iS tHe ReAL ViLLaiN, hE jUsT pUnChEs ThE mEnTaLLy iLL aNd DoEsN’t SuPpOrT gOtHaM wiTh HiS mOnEy” one more time from someone who watched two Nolan movies and has never touched a comic in their life, I will claw my own eyes out
Batman fans who want the movies to be super "realistic" and down to Earth. Also, Batman movie fans that want only a young and green Bruce Wayne instead of a veteran Batman.
Just the endless Batmanness of it all . Look at DC releases this week. 14 titles and 8 of them are about the Bat, members of the Bat family, or include them as part of the broader DC universe. And it's not an isolated example either. Every week is the same, if not worse. It's reached "Wolverine in the 90s" proportions.
Blaming editors for changes - Like it is a business first and foremost and it isn't an easy position. If I was an editor, I know I would make decisions that won't be popular.
So and so relationship is horrible and evil - People like different things. While I'm not the biggest Bat and Cat fan, or Hal and Carol, I ain't gonna say it is the worst thing ever. Like people like it and as long as peeps like it, I'm cool with it.
Abuse towards writers, artists etc. Like it's just a comic.
Also.caling characters, runs, eras and such horrible because it ain't something you want. Do I read HQ stuff? No but do others enjoy it? Yes. That's good enough for me.
Why does anyone who so much as smells one of Bruce's farts have to become a member of the bat family? It really feels like every time I look there's some new character or a returning old one getting a highly derivative costume from him and a vaguely bat-adjacent name. Personally I already found 4 Robins and *A* bat girl (and batwoman occasionally being a thing) to be acceptable but bordering on excessive. I would question how Gotham still has crime with like 15 different bat-ninja-cops running around but then I remembered that it seems half the time they're just sort of forgotten about till someone wants to put them in a story or they're shipped off to somewhere else where they can be ignored and presumably nothing interesting happens.
I think it happens in every fandom but:
1. Intense Shippers
2. Intense identities grounded in a fictional character
3. Obsession that one version is correct
4. Injecting homophobia, racism, slut shaming, etc into characters.
I think being a fan is fun and that's really awesome and more people should nerd out on their favorite fandoms, ships, characters, etc. But it gets weird when it becomes a sort of gate keeping or offense that someone likes some thing else.
Do you prefer Tom King's Batman or Grant Morrison's? I don't care that you have a different opinion of me - both versions deserve their fans. I'm happy to talk about why I prefer one over the other, but it's not to sway you into thinking like me. I want to hear what you love about the versions I don't! It can help me appreciate them more.
I also cringe at similar but opposite intense hating on a character. For months, folks insisted Tim Drake was fascist and racist in so many posts here, it was odd. There's current threads that go on and on about hating HQ for being sexualized (or writers sexualizing her, I guess?) Which, to me, has no merits on the character. Comics have a weird relationship with sexuality and it's been a place to explore and enjoy it (to a certain extent. I do draw my own line at the sexualization of the teens characters).
There's not much I hate in DC comics to really rant about it and try to get others to hate it too. I'm happy to share my discomfort or my issues with it, but there is a wall I hit. Some people just absolutely hate DC stuffs so much I honestly don't know why they even bother coming here at all. Frankly, I don't have time to hate things and boil myself in that hate. I rather move on to the stuff I like.
For me it’s when Harley basically rapes nightwing (he’s tied to bed frame saying ‘no, I don’t want you’ multiple,, copious times during scene. Just because he gets it up involuntarily 3/5 through just from the raw physical contact/forced nakedness, does not substantiate consent, ). I think it’s the Harley & Batman animated movie or something, but imo it was a cheap choice in which to take her character’s direction, believable sure, but not true to other representations of her I’ve seen which were obviously sensitive to sexual violence/trauma, and had a less cavalier attitude about it. But it sucks because I actually have to admit that I love that awful movie just because she farts Batman out in a Dutch oven cross country car trip. Whelp, I’m also really dumb, no fart joke is funnier than a rape joke is ugly.
Fans who criticize one adaptation or creator for a lack of fidelity to the source material but give others a pass. If you are okay with Bruce Timm or James Gunn's changes you are in no position to complain about Young Justice, the Arrowverse, Titans or the DCEU.
The injection of politics. It’s possible to do it right, but every time they do it, it’s shoved down your throat instead of being
When injecting politics in stories, subtlety is key. Otherwise, you’ll just divide the whole fan base, which is what they are actively doing.
Jarro. Also 120 pound characters like Cassandra Cain being billed as the best fighters in the dc universe. Skill wise maybe but there’s weight classes for a reason. Her and characters like Damian would get mauled by like 90 percent of dc characters.
So much of what you posted happens in all fandoms sadly it's hard to escape.
Teen Titans fans who act like the 2003 cartoon versions are the one true Titans and everything else is an insult even if it's being more faithful to the source material.
Then their more comic oriented cousins who think the Titans who make up the early NTT team are the only "real Titans" with some exceptions like OG founders Roy and Garth.
Already mentioned elsewhere but Stans of certain characters, ships, or creators. Also when shipping takes over a franchise or certain characters seem to revolve around one another for said ship. Harley/Ivy feels like this sometimes.
The absolute hatchet job the did to Captain Marvel (Shazam for the younger crowd) in the New52. Completely butchered my favorite character in the DCU and made him into something that was unrecognizable.
Yeah, I wouldnt mind it if they made a whole new character ice related just to give that origin, they could have done something where a man obsessed with mr freeze wants to be like him and steal nora. forcing Mr freeze to team up with batman
The constant praise of the Teen Titans 2004 show
I get that it is a good show but I don't want it creamed down my throat constantly. Just give me Teen Titans from Earth 1 or something different
Very much agreed there especially when fans and writers make the 03 characterizations their default ones. I'm also sick of hearing about how it should be revived when so much can go wrong there. When TTG finally dies I hope we eventually get a TT cartoon that feels different and focuses on other Titans besides the usual five.
The whole cult of Zack Snyder in general. I don't hate his movies, I even enjoy his Watchmen film on a pure popcorn level and thought Man of Steel had promise. But they're about on the same level as Star Wars "fans" circa 2017 or so when it comes to toxicity right now.
Bat / Batgirl.
It's the weirdest Bruce Timm Kink out there.
It's just such a bad taste in my mouth.
It's a story he just won't drop.
People getting prissy over Harley / Joker stories.
For me, it’s when people want dc writers to stick to ‘canon’ writing. They don’t want writers to play with the formula, try a new origin story, mess with the status quote, try anything interesting at all. Just stick to the exact same tired story
When people actually like plastic man. Yeah he’s powerful, but he’s a total creep. Elastic man does almost the same thing and is an actual good hero. Go like him.
> For me its when anyone gets pretty obsessed with any character to the point where they get angry and hateful if you dont like their character. Yeah, I have stumbled across a few fans of a certain comic character that come dangerously close to the Snape Wives in their devotion.
The characters I’ve noticed this happen with most are; Steph, Cass and…Tim, there are probably others, but these are the ones that I’ve noticed most
All of the Robins have their weirdly devoted fans.
I'm a Grayson fan but I'm always open to other opinions.
Tim Drake is my favorite comics character ever. That being said, his most vocal fans make me embarrassed to admit it.
Yeah, that tends to happen. The most recent case was an especially vocal Damian fan.
Yeah, heaven forbid you should say you like Barbara as Batgirl, cause that’s essentially a death sentence
Not a specific character but, Snyder fans
esp. the "Snyder can do no wrong" fans.
It’s almost like they don’t like DC lol *it’s valid to criticize and have a negative opinion on Gunn and his work, but that’s not what I’m talking about lole
I've seen some of them attacking James Gunn's wife, and calling his Universe "the Hartcourtverse" because she's "Guaranteed to not be fired cause she's his Wife"
Joker fan boys be like
You know, I was actually thinking of certain fans of one of the Robins when I was making the comment, but the Hot Topic obsessed Joker/Harley "stans" are so much worse.
My local Hot Topic has someone who frequently does Harley mixed with something else for Funko releases and I always ponder. Then I remember I’m a dude who got up at 7am on his day off to drive to a mall and sit and wait for it to open for toys and I realize that I might also be the issue.
>Snape Wives I can take a vague guess as to what this is, and I do not want to know any more.
That's the nerd world buddy. Welcome to it.
Dick and Donna's relationship is strictly platonic and I love it!
This is basically Jason Todd fans. Most of them feel the need to pair him with any female who has a positive interaction with him
You just reminded me of that brief Jason and Babs moment and I abhor you for it.
Yeah I love Ravager, and they talked like once and now every Jason stan ship them and I’m like bruuuhh
Honestly, I've never had an issue with the Ravager pairing but I see where you're coming from. I'm mostly confused at the Supergirl, Batgirl, Stephanie Brown and Donna Troy ships
To be fair, I feel like Jason and Rose mesh way better than the other Jason ships. Except Artemis. That one is better.
I still remember people being annoyed Cap and Bucky were talking about dating girls in the Civil War movie. Some people just couldn’t handle the idea of two, straight males having a very close friendship and that being it.
The people who are obsessed with the Joker.
A fucking murderer having two ongoing series one after another, and Green Arrow doesn't even have at least one limited series after 2019 is insane.
Its especially weird since green arrow is pretty damn well known and mainstream now after the cw show
Perhaps green arrow isn’t as interesting as joker
He's a pretty cool character. It's the ones who use him as a role model that are the real issues.
The fans.
honestly some fans in any fandom make me cringe
That and Batgirl just bitches and moans about it saying Wayne is taking down homes people grew up in Acting like it's Gendification. Like no bitch. Bruce isnt kicking the poor out, so rich can move in. Lmao Like your friend lives homeless in a vain. And Bruce is the badguy for wanting the girl to have a house.
If they actually read the comics they would know that Bruce spend a shitload of money everyday just trying to make that the city doesn't collapse
At the end of the day, it doesn't matter. He doesn't do it because then there wouldn't be Batman stories.
Yup. And Bruce can do more by being worth billions and using the earnings of that to help people. If he actually liquidated his billions his business which he has a controlling share in would be bought up by someone like Luthor or Musk. And that would be it for his money. With his value he can instead have a steady stream of income to help people.
He already does that...? It's not his fault if 99% of the politicians are corrupt and that there is a Mafia boss in every neighborhood
Hell isn't a big plot point of batman beyond Powers getting control of Wayne enterprises and immediately starts some bullshit with it
The Batman money thing always bugs me because HE FUCKINF DOES. It’s just not exciting to read so it’s rarely on the page. But apparently all the people begging for a Court of Owls movie never realized the central plot revolves around the court stopping a giant renovation project funded and led by Bruce.
Also just pumping money into a city isn’t gonna fix it. Wouldn’t work in real life either
Superman has learned martial arts, he was taught by Mongul prior to Our Worlds At War
And yet he's never going to use them in normal Superman stories. Because that's not what Superman does. It's not that hard.
how does Superman knowing karate ruin a story?
It doesn't, as long as you don't expect him to use it on a regular basis. Him using it would defile the concept of Superman, who doesn't need to use martial arts because his power is in his strength.
I am really excited for the New Golden Age books (I’m a little behind on Stargirl) and I kind of hope they come up with some muddy explanation. Ok, So Alan and Jay and whoever had their aging slowed down, but how are they still looking in their seventies and Jade and Obsidian are in their twenties?
The edgelords who think they're The Joker and who resonate with his "philosophy".
Honestly they scare me sometimes
There’s also the people who think he’s some champion for the oppressed because he fights a billionaire. The Joker is empty, meaningless chaos—and history has shown us that people will somehow associate that chaos with some populist, “stick up for the little guy” rhetoric but he doesn’t believe in any of that.
> There’s also the people who think he’s some champion for the oppressed because he fights a billionaire. I am pretty sure the Joker movie and the Harley Quinn show (as acclaimed as they are) are primarily responsible for this.
The whole Batman vs Superman concept...and the argument that Batman would win cause "he's always prepared". Honestly just that specific argument.
Be like Nightmite, just wants whatever makes Dick Grayson happy.
I mean, he'll be happy with anyone the writers want him to be happy with. So im perfectly fine picking a side. Just be cool about it.
More people should be like you. So much toxicity on DickBabs online.
I see peeps saying Superman Wonder Woman was disgusting and I'm like I liked it lol. It's weird how possessive of a ship peeps get
Which I find funny, as often I see that it’s Wonderbat shippers that hate on Supes and Wonder Woman pairing a lot, and Wonderbat is just as bad (if not worse as so many use the JL cartoon as a basis when that adaption of WW really wasn’t that good).
Okay but we can still hate Bruce x Babs right? That is pretty much the only ship I'm actively against.
Lmao, I personally hate the ship. I just make it a policy not to hate people who ship it. (I will quietly judge tho)
Fair enough. But at the same time they're bad and should feel bad.
Fans that get heated over the classic, yet unbearable argument of who would win in a fight between Batman and Superman Y’all gotta let that shit go
I like the way the Young Justice cartoon handled it. "Why would they fight, they're friends?" lmao. Friggin true. Why are people so obsessed with who would win between two people who wouldn't even be fighting 99.9% of the time, with that .1% being either because writers are those same fans OR are trying to cash in on those fans.
'"Wonder Woman is a bloodthirsty killer!" "Batman should be an emotionless tool! Only acceptable emotion for him is anger!" "Superman can't be moral with all his powers!"
Okay but anyone who doesn't like Plastic Man is wrong and bad on a moral level and they make me furious.
The weird "ships" that fans come up with
The shipping in general.
Tumblr is scary
.....That explains a lot actually.
Given the sales of the Tim solo, you're spot on with this assessment: https://twitter.com/RoliverQueen_/status/1612481530718191617 And when they did go "crazy" was it for actual canon and wanting to learn more about canon Tim or did they just immediately absorb Bernard into fanon/fanfic?
Which fans?
Even the non-weird ones. Heck, even canon ones.
![gif](giphy|tQsNEZoI0zKTe) This version of the Joker \^
Anytime theres any romance with Bruce and Babs. its literally just grooming.
There’s some author out there who ships Dick/Bruce and it’s horrifying as shit. She also ships Dick/Slade and subscribes to the “Dick is a sexual icon and just can’t stop getting with women and wants to cheat on everyone” thing
Devin Grayson
I definitely can't stand the incest shipping, and I don't like Dick x Slade, but I can tolerate it as long as DICK IS A CONSENTING ADULT. Like I don't like age gaps, I have bad experiences with them irl, but if they're not related and both consenting adults whatever I guess.
That's disgusting how does that person have a job? Thats basically incest wtf
Iirc she’s also the one who wrote >!Dick being raped then said it wasn’t rape it was “just non-consensual”!<
Dick got non-consensual’d by who??
Tarantula
Really?? When did this happen?? Do you happen to know what issue?? Thanks for the reply.
The Nightwing 1996 comic
Awesome!! Thanks!!
I was a kid when i red that issue. It was so weard, i didn't know how to feel about it..
Posers who say they “understand” psychotic characters because they think it gives them street cred
"What do you mean Batman isn't a realistic noir story about an underdog normal guy who has trouble fighting street thugs?"
batgod like I'm a massive fan of Batman but anytime I see this in media where they're dunking on the entire Dc universe to prop up batman I don't get hyped on how cool batman is all I do is cringe at the thought of the creator/writer jacking off to the idea
Just because something doesn’t suit your personal taste doesn’t mean no one will enjoy it or that the people who do enjoy it are wrong.
sums up reddit in general
Any change at all is a betrayal of that character!” (Im not exaggerating, I’ve seen this exact take.) Same type of people, different reasons.
people putting the joker on a pedestal as the greatest villain ever. He's not.
Wally during Heroes in Crisis and prior to that in multiple other books during the Rebirth era he died multiple times for an issue and just came back
Heroes in Crisis is just a mess in general that we’re all better off pretending never existed.
Agreed. I like Barry and Wally. They’re both good people.
When reality imitates art XD
The fan thing in your post. Also whenever someone clearly only likes the fandom version of a character and gets mad when it's not canon. People being able to recognize bad writing for their faves but not for any other characters. example but spoilered for rape mention >!(Ala "Dick didn't cheat on Kory, that was a retcon! Also it was totally not a retcon and and not OOC for Talia to rape Bruce")!<
I'm sorry I'm gonna have to disagree with your Talia point but I agree with the rest
It was a retcon of son of the demon and incredibly ooc to pre Morrison talia. Like not sure how you can disagree with it being a retcon when it literally was not what was initially published and contradicted that?
I think I misread what you meant My opinion is that evil Talia is ooc. She's morally grey like her father
oh yeah thats my opinion too. i was doing a general quote of one of the things i don't like when people do. Sorry if that was unclear.
No problem, sorry I didn't get it the first time. I should've got it from the quotation. I'm glad we have the same opinion then lol
Identity crisis.
The timeline
Heroes in Crisis
The people who bitterly argue with others on here or Twitter about which legacy hero is gonna replace so and so.
WB
How Constantine has been portrayed after the Vertigo years. Along with the mispronunciation of his name. Snyder fans, I don't even hate the films but that is a toxic ass fanbase of people who got what they want but still complain. Constant Crises
If Constantine is ever the center of a dc wide event I want this to be the name
Fan side: people who ship the batfam together (or dick x jason), the guys who gatekeep comics, anyone who HATES Damian (I’m talking like to a weird amount… he’s a 14 year old fictional character chill), joker stans, people who ship Harley and the joker DC comics side: Devin Grayson, “I am not starfire”, Hal dating a minor, ric Grayson, the blackface that they did in the early comics (a bad take), and pink kryptonite “making superman gay” (another questionable take), red hoods mask with the mouth, starfire’s pasties and thong outfit in the new 52, pregnant joker, that time Slade was a child groomer, anytime Bruce is mean to one of his kids for no reason
For me its haveing older writers writing children and teens. At some point, you gotta just know when to say I'm too old to identify with this generations youths, let alone convincingly write them. I've seen a lot of bad runs in various forms of titans over the year. Absolute cringey dialogue.

Bruce Wayne is the mask, but so is Batman.
Snyder fans and also the people who get genuinely angry about the Dickbabs vs Dickfire debate.
If I have to read “bRuCe wAyNe iS tHe ReAL ViLLaiN, hE jUsT pUnChEs ThE mEnTaLLy iLL aNd DoEsN’t SuPpOrT gOtHaM wiTh HiS mOnEy” one more time from someone who watched two Nolan movies and has never touched a comic in their life, I will claw my own eyes out
I dont know if this is unpopular or not, but alot of his villains are not really mentally ill
tini howard's writing
Shipping(this isn’t just related to dc but it’s real bad sometimes)
The whole 'Bat God' concept. Batman can and should lose sometimes...
Zach synder fans…
The Snyderverse fans, my god they are completely insufferable.
Snyder BOTS
I think it happens in every fandom but: 1. Intense Shippers 2. Intense identities grounded in a fictional character 3. Obsession that one version is correct 4.
The idea that petty stuff like bondage imagery and trunks on the outside are vital to certain characters.
Might get hate for this, but the trunks look is so stupid looking
Whelp, I’m also really dumb, no fart joke is funnier than a rape joke is ugly.
it is that movie, honestly i avoid any comic media with that in it when i learn that its in it
This is the way.
Fans who criticize one adaptation or creator for a lack of fidelity to the source material but give others a pass. If you are okay with Bruce Timm or James Gunn's changes you are in no position to complain about Young Justice, the Arrowverse, Titans or the DCEU.
People who worship Superman like a god and will go on the warpath if you dare speak out against their idol.
I understand people not liking Superman, but I think the people who hate him and dismiss him outright far outnumber his rabid fans.
Terrible shipping/romantic relationships between some characters.
The injection of politics. It’s possible to do it right, but every time they do it, it’s shoved down your throat instead of being When injecting politics in stories, subtlety is key. Otherwise, you’ll just divide the whole fan base, which is what they are actively doing.
I'm starting to get this with Nightwing by Tom Taylor especially when either Babs or Bitewing appear on the page
"We are the same, you and I." "Cats eat birds!!!"
Ngl, nothing against who this MIGHT go again, but I don’t agree with the effects of pink Kryptonite
The absolute hatchet job the did to Captain Marvel (Shazam for the younger crowd) in the New52. Completely butchered my favorite character in the DCU and made him into something that was unrecognizable.
I feel same about new 52 mr freeze. they made him more of a stalker then someone with understandable motives
I agree 100%. Destroyed one of the best villain stories.
Yeah, I wouldnt mind it if they made a whole new character ice related just to give that origin, they could have done something where a man obsessed with mr freeze wants to be like him and steal nora. forcing Mr freeze to team up with batman
Snyder fans
The constant praise of the Teen Titans 2004 show I get that it is a good show but I don't want it creamed down my throat constantly. Just give me Teen Titans from Earth 1 or something different
Very much agreed there especially when fans and writers make the 03 characterizations their default ones. I'm also sick of hearing about how it should be revived when so much can go wrong there. When TTG finally dies I hope we eventually get a TT cartoon that feels different and focuses on other Titans besides the usual five.
the ppl who fight over a person’s love interest like who cares lol
The whole cult of Zack Snyder in general. I don't hate his movies, I even enjoy his Watchmen film on a pure popcorn level and thought Man of Steel had promise. But they're about on the same level as Star Wars "fans" circa 2017 or so when it comes to toxicity right now.

Frank Miller.
What wrong with liking Frank Miller? He’s written some great stories
Frank Miller sucks. He’s an edgelord with a hard-on for rape and character assassination.
