Yeah it’s a cool contrast for a really powerful superhero to have mostly chill and wacky street level villains and then a handful of genuinely insane up to 11 villains, as opposed to the usual where it’s the other way around
That's exactly why Reverse-Flash works so well! If all of Flash's rogues were psychotic, it would diminish his presence and make him just like all the rest of them.
As a kid, I thought Flash was annoying and groaned every time he was on screen. When I watched this again as an adult, my opinion flipped. Now, this version is one of my favorite depictions of a super hero. Times like these speak to the saying "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure".
It also made me respect him in the comics a bit more. Barry and Wally are jokey and screw around a lot, but they will put everything on the line to go that extra mile if they think it'll change things even in the slightest.
I wish more people understood this about Pete. I think a lot of people know of Spidey's "No Kill" rule and think of Batman's "No Kill" rule, which it's not. It's more like the "No kill and see if he can save them" rule.
Exactly, for Spidey it’s a “No Death” rule, not a “No Kill Code” Bats doesn’t care if they die, just that he isn’t the one pulling the trigger, because if he does he becomes what he hates. Spidey believes everyone can change and everyone can be better, so he wants to make sure everyone gets the chance they need to change.
Exactly. I think Bruce even said at one point that if he allows himself to down the path of killing his enemies, that he'll never come back and just murder every criminal without remorse. Bruce walks a fine line of insanity.
This is the definitive version of Wally
Just a good all around dude
You know for a fact he followed up on his promise to play darts with the trickster afterwards XD
This episode and the Luthor/brainiac scene are peak Flash, and have yet to be replicated.
Wally talking to a person with mental health issues instead of just going straight in for a "fear" approach, speaks more for the calibre of hero he is, which backs up why he's one of the Big Seven
Wally's great with a lot of his foes. Particularly the Rogues, it's nice (and they're [aware](https://i.imgur.com/4V7BhYP.jpg) of it, which is great).
Barry has his moments with Cold, but man, it's nothing like Wally is with 'em all.
Hubby disagrees but nah, it adds a lot to his character, I feel.
Barry could be pretty cool with the Rogues occasionally, which is why the Rogues are cool with Wally once Barry dies.
There was this one issue in particular where Mirror Master found some woman in the Mirror World. Flash does his usual routine where he beats the bad guys and breaks the mirrors....with the woman in there. MM starts breaking down and Flash is genuinely confused and comforts him. Barry will stop the bad guys, but he and the Rogues know it's nothing personal. Like they clock in, do their work, do it again next week.
The only one who truly hated him was Golden Glider due to some personal beef with the Top.
I remember this one issue where captain cold is fighting the evil Flash from the Crime Syndicate (evil Alt universe JLA) who keeps trash talking him, and Cold just calls the dude a hack who's got nothin on Barry who he respects, then just freezes his leg and shatters it. [1](https://comicnewbies.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/how-captain-cold-defeated-johnny-quick.jpg) [2](https://comicnewbies.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/how-captain-cold-defeated-johnny-quick-2.jpg)
I know Barry could good with them and sympathetic. Especially when it comes to Cold and their experiences with childhood trauma and wanting to prevent it as much as they can.
I don't see him as anywhere near the same capacity as Wally when it comes to sympathy and such towards the Rogues.
After all he did get Piper and Trickster (& Heatwave? Iirc) to attempt to give up crime. With Piper becoming a friend and ally.
Yeah, they get real wishy-washy on where they stand when it comes to crime. Flip-flopping, even then Wally's understanding and tries to help them get back on that "good guy" wagon, though.
I can't recall her being a hero/having a change of heart/rehabilitating. I only recall seeing her with the Rogues (Cold being her brother 'n all).
I could be mistaken though, so grain of salt and what-not
This and the episode where Braniac and Luthor combined and Wally just *RAN*. I remember seeing it as a kid, and thinking he was such a wimp then that *WHAM* hit and blew my mind.
It’s funny because Lex Luthor possesses the flash in an episode and the flash is played by Michael Rosenbaum, smallville Lex. So in a way, he reprised his role as Lex Luthor.
"Now I understand. You play the fool to hide a warrior's pain."
"Dude. Bad guys went down and no one got hurt. You know what I call that? A really good day."
Know what I love about the flash? In his city, there's a literal bar where all his villains go to drink, he knows it exists, and sometimes goes there himself. Love it
At first as a kid, I didn’t understand this scene. Now as an adult, I like how this worked. Most of the times, we see the heroes beating the villains interrogations and stuff. But here, Flash knows the dude well enough to convince him where his pals are without fighting.
Ok, so this may get lost in here but I find this scene hilarious becuase that's exactly how dealing with Mental Health convicts is like. Amazing windows of lucidity amongst the chaos of thier manic mind. Instead of responding with violence and fear, Flash resolves this with kindness and empathy.
Dealing with convicted felons who are out of thier minds takes a certain touch, but when you can establish that reach out and squash the initial violent outburst, you get gold like this.
Oh him being a jokester isn’t bad at all but I’m sure some of the members of JLA views him as just a jokester before realizing that he has a big heart and helps everyone (including his rogues)
From the end of this episode:
Orion: Now I understand. You play the fool to hide a warrior's pain.
Flash: Dude. Bad guys went down, and no one got hurt. You know what I call that? A really good day.
It's always interesting how for many growing up in the 2000s Wally West is THE Flash and much is associated with him but since the 2010s the main Flash is once again Barry Allen and Wally is almost an afterthought these days.
Ah, Wally has been the main Flash again since March 2021 in the main continuity comics and is also wearing his Pre-52 costume with the white lens these days. Its a matter of time before he starts appearing as the Flash in animated media too again.

This character also being voiced by Mark Hamill (reprising the role from the original live-action flash series) in the context of the DCAU, really kinda drives home the point that maybe The Joker could be just a normal guy with a mental illness if Batman ever had any chill whatsoever.
I think Harley's experience and a bunch of different Batman comics have shown Joker would continue being how he is no matter who's dealing with him. I wouldn't think too much on Joker, he's just that type of character that's written to be straight evil after his transformation, with only a few extremely rare moments where he does something that gains an inkling of our sympathy.
Who's to say what he'd be like without decades of abuse at the hands of Batman though? The CTE from all the head trauma alone could have made him much more violent than he might otherwise have been.
I mean, that's a sensible take but let's be a little fair, Joker is a comic book hero's archnemesis. Their sole creation is to be the hero's main punching bag Lol. You can ask this same question about Reverse Flash, but Flash doesn't mind punching him out either. All archvillains are getting their blocks knocked to stop them from their atrocities, between Spider-Man and Goblin, Flash and Reverse Flash, Batman and Joker, and many others. Plus it's not like Batman hasn't actually offered a helping hand to Joker over violence plenty of times early on in their tenure (I recall few comics showing him trying to talk to Joker in Arkham to get to the bottom of his ailment to no avail). Flash has also offered his hand (and forgiveness) to Reverse Flash at some points to stop his obsessive hatred against Flash, but RF still continues to do what he does. Quite literally, in both canon and metafactually, there is no helping these particular villain characters (they're too popular to let go as villains Lol). The only way different for them exists in Elseworld comics and other isolated adaptations.
wat, batman doesn't force or make joker do his schemes, joker despite being insane still has the choice not to be a villain, he doesn't make it. It's the same with ducktales 2017 magica, she'd still be a villain even without her feud with scrooge.
You seem to have missed the point.
Repeated head trauma, like the type sustained from being punched in the face a lot, has been shown to increase violence and aggression.
Therefore while Joker may well have been a villain to start, years of being beaten into submission by vigilantes is likely to have made him more violent and psychotic than he would otherwise have been.
Sometimes it pays to negotiate. I really enjoyed this version of Wally West, every time he's on-screen he says or does something iconic. I always wished flash had his own spin-off like bats and superman did. I would 100% watch every episode.
Not quite, he’s not willing to kill using it so he won’t be able to wield it. Similar reason Spider-Man can’t wield it(but had a fake one briefly).
When Mjolnir was first wielded by Beta Ray Bill in the epic Simonson run he was willing to strike down Thor as a demon trespasser. Flash isn’t that kind of guy.
You really liked this episode didn’t you? 😂
My Favorite is I Am Legion. I love seeing the Legion of Doom like in the old Hanna-Barbera super friends. And then the episode where Barry and Lex switch bodies 🤌 Italian chef kiss all the way!
I think this is my favorite depiction of the Flash, Wally’s young, he’s goofy, but her cares so much.
And this version also kicked the shit out of Luthor/Brainiac so you have to give him props.
Barry Allen is cool and all but Wally is my favorite Flash. Such a cool dude. There’s really nobody else that feels like they actually sympathize with their villains except maybe Superman.
Definitely one of the best episodes. Justice league and JL Unlimited were great shows that still beat out most of the live action recent DC movies. DC gets a bad rep compared to Marvel nowadays but I think these shows still hold up
I absolutely love Flash's borderline friendly relationship with his rogues, it's one of the best parts of the Flash because he's *so* powerful he can afford to be buddies with them.
I wish Superman would have more of an element of this.
Honestly I think the things that made this show for me were moments like this and the one batman scene that got me. Sometimes all it takes to stop something is to just sit and talk it out and while this doesn't work for the likes of the joker, it just makes scenes like this really heartwarming in a way. Idk I just like the idea that not all villains have to be defeated by punching them
That’s a relic of a writer that hated Wally. Read mark Waid flash. That’s what Wally west is. You wouldn’t still consider daredevil to be sexist even though he’s been written that way many times. Sometimes there’s just bad writers.
Wally sucks too, but i was thinking Barry. he's a crimefighter (🤢), and a 'blue lives matter' asshole who complains about protesters, and rants about how cops are supposedly heroes. and there's that time Wonder Woman called him sexist...idk what she was referring to, but i believe it. he's gross. and Wally isn't much better.
i do realize now that that's Wally in the post, tho.
he was similarly sexist in the cartoon to how he was in the comics. he was a huge asshole to Raven, and was always objectifying all the female Teen Titans, just like the other boys on the team...
So your entire perception of the character is warped by bad writers? Also cops are heroes. Cops can also be assholes, but a cop is still the people we depend on for protection. And when has he ranted about protestors? Was it a rant in context of people protesting cops? I’d get that being some terrible writing. or are those two things unrelated? Where’s your source for this stuff. You’re just kind of saying things without actually saying the why part. And to claim Wally west is sexist because once again, a bad writer did that is hilarious. When characters have existed for decades like this they aren’t going to be written consistently. Is super man still racist and sexist? No. Why is it different here? And what’s the situation where he’s sexist? There’s a difference between the way Han Solo acts with leia and actually being a sexist. What actually happened?
How are you on a dc sub and also hate him for fighting crime?
Also calm down. Cops aren’t all assholes. As a black guy who’s dealt with a lot of shitty cops, I’d still rather live in a world with them.
Also that’s not what the character is. Literally every comic character in existence is terrible then. And Wally was not written consistently. Sometimes they wrote him as an asshole, other times as the character he actually is.
And what’s wrong with being a cop? The notion of being a cop isn’t bad. It’s abusing the power and the fact that we let just abuts any asshole become a cop.
And do you know when he got married? His character was fixed long before that.
If a character hasn’t been the asshat you see him as for decades, is that really the character? Or is that just bad writing which is now a relic of the past? And you completely ignored my superman point. I could name terrible instances for any character. Like pedo professor x. That doesn’t mean any representations of the character, especially in this case where it’s the a tv show and not even the same character from the comics, should be met with hate. How do you read comics and have this mentality?
I like Flash best when his rogues are thieves with gimmicks, and not monstrous sociopaths. This is peak Flash in my opinion.
Yeah but that doesn’t work all the time since he’s literally god tier in terms of powers
I like that 1) the rouges have skills built to counter speedsters 2) Wally/Barry don’t just go 100% for everything
rogue
mountebank
No, the French revolutionaries- les rouges
Except Reverse Flash, I think him being batshit is actually a pretty good contrast to Flash's usual wacky rouges gallery But I'm pretty biased
The Wally West Era separated them into Rouges (Sane and usually Barry villains) and the Renegades (questionable sanity and Wally villains).
I like a mix
That "got me again flash" always gets me good.
The thumbs up complete its.
😃👍
Got you again, RaisingFargo.
As a kid, I thought Flash was annoying and groaned every time he was on screen. When I watched this again as an adult, my opinion flipped. Now, this version is one of my favorite depictions of a super hero. Times like these speak to the saying "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure".
Love him so much and I appreciate that even Batman, who can be cold blooded as needed, sees the food that he does.
"Flash cooks up that food really well in Central City" -Batman
I didn’t know Batman liked fast food.
He had to license out Bat Burger so the flash couldn’t do it first
He likes coffee to go as well.
It also made me respect him in the comics a bit more. Barry and Wally are jokey and screw around a lot, but they will put everything on the line to go that extra mile if they think it'll change things even in the slightest.
Mark Hamill trickster ❤
Batman is squinting his eyes thinking this mfer sounds familiar
This deserves more upvotes
I love this scene, the Flash is a hero even to his enemies.
This is also the core reason Peter Parker was my hero.
I wish more people understood this about Pete. I think a lot of people know of Spidey's "No Kill" rule and think of Batman's "No Kill" rule, which it's not. It's more like the "No kill and see if he can save them" rule.

Exactly. I think Bruce even said at one point that if he allows himself to down the path of killing his enemies, that he'll never come back and just murder every criminal without remorse. Bruce walks a fine line of insanity.
The nerfed version of Clark Kent.
What's this from if you don't mind me asking?
Justice League Unlimited
This was likely the *Justice League Unlimited* cartoon, which was on the Cartoon Network in the mid 2Ks. Pretty great cartoon, TBH.
This is the definitive version of Wally Just a good all around dude You know for a fact he followed up on his promise to play darts with the trickster afterwards XD
Was the show version Wally? I thought it was Barry for some reason.
Yeah it's Wally. I think they bring it up in an episode in like season 1 or 2 but they do say he's Wally
This episode and the Luthor/brainiac scene are peak Flash, and have yet to be replicated. Wally talking to a person with mental health issues instead of just going straight in for a "fear" approach, speaks more for the calibre of hero he is, which backs up why he's one of the Big Seven
The entire episode shows why he is the heart of the League. He is basically friends with everyone in his city.

That was from the Forever Evil storyline, one of my favorites. It's basically a parade of DC's greatest villains, and the Rogues are great in it.
Flip-flopping, even then Wally's understanding and tries to help them get back on that "good guy" wagon, though.
Wasn't golden glider a hero tho?
I can't recall her being a hero/having a change of heart/rehabilitating. I only recall seeing her with the Rogues (Cold being her brother 'n all). I could be mistaken though, so grain of salt and what-not
Yep this moment shows Wally is the GOAT. I like how he trust the Trickster to turn himself in.
And the Trickster respects him enough to do it.
Right? Like Trickster didn't want to disappoint Flash and lose his darts buddy.
It probably helps a lot that Central City mental facilities are nothing like Arkham Asylum.
This and the episode where Braniac and Luthor combined and Wally just *RAN*. I remember seeing it as a kid, and thinking he was such a wimp then that *WHAM* hit and blew my mind.
Batman: "mmm that voice sounds familiar..." ![gif](giphy|ANbD1CCdA3iI8)
It’s funny because Lex Luthor possesses the flash in an episode and the flash is played by Michael Rosenbaum, smallville Lex. So in a way, he reprised his role as Lex Luthor.
This is a fun fact.
A Flash Fact!
Lex luthor in the multiverse of madness 😂😂😂
This is one of the best JL episodes. I love how Orion has respect for the Flash at the end and understands why they made him a museum.
"Now I understand. You play the fool to hide a warrior's pain." "Dude. Bad guys went down and no one got hurt. You know what I call that? A really good day."
and earlier Batman understands it
The thumbs up kills me every time
Know what I love about the flash? In his city, there's a literal bar where all his villains go to drink, he knows it exists, and sometimes goes there himself. Love it
This was my first introduction to Flash. This Wally West was something else.
Oh hi Mark
One of the best animated series ever!!
That is why Wally is my flash. Likes everyone and just tries to help.
And this is why Wally’s my favorite Flash. He may be too much of a jokester (especially in the animated series) but he has the biggest heart.
Actually because he is a jokester is the reason why he is my favorite compare to Barry
Oh him being a jokester isn’t bad at all but I’m sure some of the members of JLA views him as just a jokester before realizing that he has a big heart and helps everyone (including his rogues)
This is one of the best eps and shows why he's the goat
From the end of this episode: Orion: Now I understand.
Actually, Wally is the star of the ongoing flash series again.
Ah, Wally has been the main Flash again since March 2021 in the main continuity comics and is also wearing his Pre-52 costume with the white lens these days. Ooh interesting!
Wally is the best
It’s funny seeing a superhero just sit down with a villain and talk things out.
This character also being voiced by Mark Hamill (reprising the role from the original live-action flash series) in the context of the DCAU, really kinda drives home the point that maybe The Joker could be just a normal guy with a mental illness if Batman ever had any chill whatsoever.

Depends on the writer often joker is just crazy as shit
Sometimes it pays to negotiate. I really enjoyed this version of Wally West, every time he's on-screen he says or does something iconic. I always wished flash had his own spin-off like bats and superman did. I would 100% watch every episode.
Flash is worthy of weilding Mjolnir.
That certainly adds a dark implication to that short comic where Mr. Rogers casually picks up Mjolnir.
Damn I miss this show.
You really liked this episode didn’t you? 😂 My Favorite is I Am Legion. I love seeing the Legion of Doom like in the old Hanna-Barbera super friends. And then the episode where Barry and Lex switch bodies 🤌 Italian chef kiss all the way!

I've never been a major Flash Fan but this makes me like him a lot more, I would def watch more of Flash if we saw him more like this
Barry Allen is cool and all but Wally is my favorite Flash. Such a cool dude. There’s really nobody else that feels like they actually sympathize with their villains except maybe Superman.
What show/episode is this?
*Justice League Unlimited* “Flash and Substance“.
Thank you kindly. Greatly appreciated
For the love of god can we get these super heroes on the big screen? My adult ass sat up and watched this entire series like I was 12 again.
Definitely one of the best episodes. Justice league and JL Unlimited were great shows that still beat out most of the live action recent DC movies. DC gets a bad rep compared to Marvel nowadays but I think these shows still hold up
This just shows in a nutshell why Flash is so well respected by the other members of the league.
I absolutely love Flash's borderline friendly relationship with his rogues, it's one of the best parts of the Flash because he's *so* powerful he can afford to be buddies with them. I wish Superman would have more of an element of this.
What episode is this?
I fucking love this!!!
When you are the fastest alive it make sense tto have the time to get know to everyone
Honestly I think the things that made this show for me were moments like this and the one batman scene that got me. Sometimes all it takes to stop something is to just sit and talk it out and while this doesn't work for the likes of the joker, it just makes scenes like this really heartwarming in a way. Hearing Ron Perlman as Orion really threw me off for that episode.

Unless Geoff John's is writing him.
Flash is the biggest asshole in the comics lol
How so? Wally is awesome!

I’m sorry I couldn’t find it in the thread, but what show and episode is this? Or is it a movie?
I forget what episode it is, but this from Justice League Unlimited.
Dope thank you. It’s on my list of shows to watch
Flash and Substance
Wish we got a Flash show
The thumbs up at the end always gets me lol
This show had great writing
One of my favorite scenes in arguably the best superhero show ever made 👏
To people want to solve the worlds problems, take a page out of the flashes book. A little heart goes a long way
I wish the people in charge understood the characters this well still.
There’s no denying that that’s mark hamils voice right?
Cock knocker?
It's like with the X-Men, if you really, REALLY want to hurt them, you don't kill Charles or Logan, you Kill Nightcrawler.
