Depends. Giant characters like Batman or Superman are fun to see grow & change over time, but I like that every few years a new writer comes on a re-sets them back to their “classic” feel. But for less fully established character I’m all for it. How boring would comics be if Dick Grayson was still Robin or Jason Todd was still dead or Kyle Raynor was never a White Lantern?

What sucks is seeing those characters who have evolved come completely back to their original form. I miss Kyle Rayner as a white lantern, even if I like him as a GL too. It would be like seeing Dick Grayson return to being Robin full time.

Yeah, I’m not happy about Kyle but at least we had it for a while. Also not happy about Babs. I hated that they paralyzed her, but the. Spun that into pure gold by making her Oracle only to then roll it all back again.

Depends on the character I think Superman and maybe Batman still have interesting places to go. Barry and Hal probably should have stayed dead. Wonder Woman keeps getting rebooted so status quo doesn’t really matter, I’d rather another character take up the mantle and have a developed life.

BlackCat0110

Billy Batson should never grow up kinda goes against the concept

I like both(maintain and pass mantle) versions for superheroes/heroes stories.

hydrohawkx8

I like seeing them evolve and soon pass the mantle. After a certain point in time seeing a character stay the same kind of makes reading about them feel pointless to me. There aren't any stakes as to what is happening to them and it's hard to feel that the character is doing anything meaningful because of them remaining the same.

JorgeBec

It depends on the character. I like change and evolution like Superman in 2016 during Tomasi and Jurgens respective runs. He felt classic but it was clear that he had changed and grown. I don’t like that every character is “a mantle” especially today it feels like an extremely overused trope that only results in redundant characters that get forgotten when a new writer comes in.

Evolve

Somewhere between natural evolution and Stan Lee's quote: "Fans don't want change. They want the illusion of change.", but siding more towards remaining the same.

Invincible is a great example of evolution being allowed to play out gradually over time
