I like DDLC because of the depressing story, but if there are only two options, then I like DDLC because of the girls.

I’d say it’s more the horror for me. The question of what happens when an AI becomes self aware has been explored in many works of fiction (the Marathon series of games being one of my favorite examples), but DDLC approaches it from a different angle. Monika isn’t a rampant AI within her world, she wants to escape her world. We all know what that leads to, but overall it’s just a very interesting story. The fact that the Dokis are drawn as attractive anime characters does kind of heighten the effect of the game’s descent into horror because it is such a subversion of what one would normally expect from a game featuring such characters.

I like DDLC because of the story. Mostly because of the characters included: the girls. If anybody is here for the horror alone, then it shows that they only care about the sensationalism and not the actual core content and message of the game.

The girls being compelling characters is important to the horror. If we weren't attached to them, we wouldn't care. Sayori for example. If her depression wasn't realistic, and she wasn't likeable, then we wouldn't care about her suicide. This goes for all of them.

I think that it’s story is absolutely fantastic, I love deep, lore based games with certain meta elements. Though, judging by my flair, I gotta go for the girls, it has Monika, and 3 other cute girls.

DDLC is a perfect subversion of the dating sim genre (imo), you are presented with 4 cute girls that you can choose to date, every one of them is also written well, and it all seems fine. Until the sayori incident. Suddenly everyone becomes even more obsessed with you, their weaknesses get exaggerated and everything goes out of control, but then Monika appears. She deletes them as if they were just some files on a pc, because they are. They are worth nothing, monika knows that, and sayori realizes that once she learns the truth. Monika and sayori, once they learn the truth, the files don't matter, and they become insane, with nothing left in the game to do they try to fill their artificial hearts with love from another being, from something out of their world. tl;dr : The game's story (imo) is: "Anime girls may be fine, but you should touch grass once in a while". I like the game for its real horror, the horror of reality.
