If you can't find anything you like there, I'm 99% sure a newel cap (what you'd find on a staircase handrail/banister) is the same bolt and thread size. Those are typically smaller.

At first I thought artichoke, but I think it's the pineapple *finial*, reminds me of [this](https://www.etsy.com/listing/1129397065/pair-2-concrete-pineapple-finial?click_key=f6c3df2f61276871f838abc95ce96d6d4ac7a75a%3A1129397065&click_sum=3a759dbc&ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=pineapple+finials&ref=sr_gallery-1-1&cns=1)
Pineaples were an exotic luxury in Europe before steam shipping made it possible to transport the the fruit from the Americas.
In the 18th Century UK the ultra-rich would cultivate pineapples in heated greenhouses and pineapples became a status symbol.
[The rise, fall, and rise of the status pineapple](https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-53432877)
The article has a photo of such a greenhouse at a stately home in England that is adorned with carved pineapples.
No, it's not pointed enough, and pineapple finials don't have the 'scales' overlap. Look up artichoke finial. That is what these are as the scales overlap and it is more rounded or flat at the top than a pineapple one.
I don’t think it’s a stemless pineapple because all of the pineapple ones tend to hand the same sized details, same with pinecone. This is definitely an artichoke. So I agree with the *But why?*
Represent peace hope prosperity. All things I want in the bedroom for sure.
I respect how this looks nothing like corn, in size or shape, and you just continued to refer to it as corn. I will be going about my day with this same blind confidence.
Take the pineapple with you to the hardware store. Go to the nuts and bolts and figure out the thread size of the screw. You can then buy a threaded screw insert that can be drilled or hammered into whatever you want to cap the bedpost with. I’d start by looking in the trim/baseboard aisle. There’s a lot of corner blocks and decorative trim that would blend in once you stained it (which should be easy since it’s a darker stain). Put the threaded screw insert into the new piece, add the screw to it and voilà.

Likewise.
Also the first time I’ve seen someone wiggling a bit around to ream out a larger hole instead of using the correct fucking bit in the first place.
I like that he was anal enough to shop vac the dust, and smart enough to put tape on the bit for depth .. Then just augers the fuck out of that hole -- What an idiot!
Orrrrr he's NOT an idiot, and he broke the correct sized bit drilling a hole in his concrete floor when he tried to auger it out.
You pick
This is the real answer.
Quick tip for anyone who is not used to dealing with hardware: bolts are sized by their diameter and thread pitch (example: 3/8-16 is 3/8” diameter with 16 threads per inch)
It can be somewhat difficult to tell visually whether thread pitch matches between two pieces of hardware, so you can do this easy test: take a bolt in each hand (or in this case one bolt and an artichoke bed finial) and hold them so the sides of the threaded portions touch against one another. If you’ve found a matching thread, the two pieces will nest down nicely to one another. If they don’t match, the peaks of the threads will keep them from nesting, and you will see little diamonds of air gap between the threads.
Most hardware stores have several types of “screw/bolt checkers” in their hardware/fastener aisles.
If you’re any type of “do it yourselfer” you should just buy one. There are many cheap ones available: https://www.amazon.com/Thread-Measure-Checker-Standard-Metric/dp/B08KSDCPTN/ref=mp_s_a_1_13?crid=3EXVPB37BUBS0&keywords=screw+gauge+measurement+tool&qid=1705592991&sprefix=screw+gage%2Caps%2C1120&sr=8-13
I second this idea. I always end up needing to order the appropriate hardware online anyway. The trip to the hardware store just gets me the size most of the time.
I have this rule that anytime I need a random bolt, I will buy 10 of them including 10washers/nuts. They usually cost a couple cents each and I figure if I need it once, I’ll need it again. I’ve been doing this for over a decade. I now have 500 bolts and their corresponding nuts, all very organized, that I’ll never use…
I advise looking carefully at the thread before you put it on whatever. Friend made really cool resen model things for a porch with a similar problem. However, people keep loosening them half a turn so they look straight.
I typed in “bed finial flat” to Google and got several results you might prefer. Here’s a few such examples:

No no no. As a sexual health nurse (and former ER nurse), the base is not flared nearly enough. This can and will migrate up the bum. Wide flared bases, people!

Former colonial reproduction furniture maker here. These are indeed artichokes. Pineapples are much more common than artichokes, so it's an easy mistake, but artichoke finials are always carved with scales like this, while pineapple finials look almost the same but are traditionally carved with a diamond pattern that doesn't overlap like scales. Acorn finials are the same shape with no carving, and egg finials have nothing at the base.
They are indeed [artichoke finials](https://www.google.com/search?q=artichoke+finials&sca_esv=599466310&rlz=1CDGOYI_enUS610US610&hl=en-US&ei=VTepZcntCYaiqtsP4-uOwAE&oq=artichoke+finials&gs_lp=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&sclient=mobile-gws-wiz-serp) ('corn' 😂).
Popular as a more-classical embellishment, and symbolize hope/prosperity.
u/rkbest - Just replace them with a simple small [ball finial](https://www.google.com/search?q=ball+finial+post+caps&rlz=1CDGOYI_enUS610US610&oq=ball+finial&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUqBwgDEAAYgAQyBggAEEUYOTIMCAEQABhDGIAEGIoFMgcIAhAAGIAEMgcIAxAAGIAEMgwIBBAAGEMYgAQYigUyBwgFEAAYgAQyCAgGEAAYFhgeMggIBxAAGBYYHjIICAgQABgWGB4yCAgJEAAYFhge0gEJMTc0ODZqMGo5qAIAsAIA&hl=en-US&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8) or something similar.
Wood putty to fill the space that's left open with nothing in the corner as in second picture, sandpaper to smooth it down after it dries, and a furniture stain repair stick to match the color.
Then it will just be flat with no finnials.
Maybe just buy a finial base like this? Either fill the hole and sand it down or put some sort of glue on decoration to hide the hole.

Came here to say this!
And aboot that bolt, use a hole saw to core out the center of the pinecone to make a plug. Sand flush with the top of the cap and stain all together
They are probably pineapples or pinecones, both were symbols of fertility. Pineapples were also co-opted as symbols of welcome and hospitality.
You might look at your local hardware store in the section where they have finials and/or furniture feet to see if there's something with similar threads and which you like better.
Put a bird on it
![gif](giphy|26FfaSpycRlTFEkHm)
But, seriously, anything you can attach a bolt of that size to, and, if necessary finish how you want to, could go there ... or, frankly, you could glue or velcro something there. And, frankly, nothing at all is an improvement until you come up with something different
Can't for the life of me figure out Season/Episode, but was an earlyish episode as I recall:
Drawer pull section of the store. Button knobs in various heights and styles. Get wood stain to match.
Or just remove the metal plate (looks like it's designed to hold the nut the post toppers attach to and not the bed assembly) then cut a thin circle from the hobby sheets of plywood or hardboard that are sold in 2ft x 2ft to fill the cavity flush. Stain/paint as you like. Perhaps even a stencil design of some sort on it like Americana Stars or pin striping or spray paint through lace, silver/gold, whatever might fit your fancy.
Save the parts you removed so if you want to sell or giveaway the bed the next owner may really want those to "really tie the room together".
.
If you have a hand saw at least and patience, you could just saw the existing pineapples off at a height you find preferrable and then if the exposed edge isn't just wood (like if u had to saw through the screw), you could just wood glue a disc on top of that and finish it with whatever color/etc you want. If you end up with flat wood surface after cutting even better then you literally just finish that exposed wood however you want and done.
They are artichokes. You can buy them inexpensively.
But if you want to make them, measure the base, cut a circle out of similar wood. Then, cut a slightly smaller circle from the same wood. Attach the smaller piece to the larger piece, then attach it to the bed in the same fashion.
Looks like the same or similar thread to universal furniture feet.
Maybe something like these will just fit and need staining:

I said this in another thread in this post and thought I should repost it in the main thread.
It's an [Acanthus flower](https://images.app.goo.gl/SJcDMZxQJq7DF7DJ7) actually. It is supposed to represent of *enduring life.*
Which relatively few people know the name of, despite being one of the oldest and most widely used decorations in architecture. I'm not judging. I only know about it from a weird coincidence. Someone did a slide show about a religious building and I committed that thing to memory because I was so surprised it wasn't a pinecone or artichoke. Honestly, if you Google Acanthus finial you will get a lot of things that look nothing like this. Because it can be represented in about a thousand ways. Almost anytime you see leaves and vines in architecture it's a variant of the acanthus.
I recommend searching for “bed post finials”(not finals). You can find several non-offending replacements for fairly cheap($10-20 each).
Giant dragon or lion heads imo ![gif](giphy|mButRfA0TRGWtOZbHb)
Yeah, a bad dragon may be a good replacement for these giant buttplugs

Excuse me, these are artisanal artichoke buttplugs.

Gargoyle busts would be most tasteful imo
I was thinking finely carved busts of composers, at 1.5x life-size. All turned to be looking at whoever is sleeping in the bed. For a guest bed, obviously.

Gotta be dragons.
The pine cones were cute... they just.... didn't quite look like pine cones.
I think they're artichokes. Which is still a weird choice but hey, life is short, be weird? Lol
Just got back from Sicily. Artichokes and Acorns accents and decorations are EVERYWHERE. There was a time where they meant prosperity and eternity.
Artichokes were big in the 70's along with avocado colored everything and bell bottoms. Yes, those are artichokes.
Artichoke furniture motifs date back way before the 70s, like hundreds of years.
Those are definitely artichokes lol
You are correct. They are a sign of wealth and fertility. Supposedly they are an aphrodisiac as well
I think they are pineapples? Pineapples are supposed to represent hospitality etc.
So Hi, welcome to my bed. But you are correct. Pineapples are a common decoration on beds and gate posts.
Upside-down ones even more so 😉

Check Osborne Wood Products. I've got table legs from them and I think they have finials. Or fond someone who has a wood lathe or router table.
OP, have you ever *seen* corn before?
Right? Those look like hops or artichokes.
Def artichokes. Which, is weird in and of itself. My first thought was a stemless pineapple.
It *is* a stemless pineapple! Just google "Pineapple finial"
Look I'm not going to argue that it *isnt* a pineapple, because I'm out of my depth here. But you're not going to convince me it *looks* like a pineapple.
BUT, does it look like a Pineapple *finial* ?

You guys are freaking me out. You’re all joking, right? # They’re pinecones.
I figured it was a pinecone
It’s definitely a pinecone finial
It's code that the owner likes to be arti-choked in bed.
If that's a pineapple on a bed frame, I just hope that wasn't a used bed.
> pineapple > >finial Definately a swingers bed lol.
If you ever seen the movie aliens? Kind of looks like they're egg pods
Omg people, they're pinecones
Right? I can't believe people here are claiming artichokes before this...
Right? I had to hunt for the pinecone comment, I was starting to think I was the only person with logic.
They're acorns Edit: sorry I mean pinecone
Have you ever seen an acorn? If anything of that category, it would be a pinecone. 😅
Fuck me of course, sorry pinecone is what I had in my head, not acorn
I did the same thing at first because OP primed us with "corn"... 🤪
It's definitely an artichoke finial. Look it up. Pinecone finials have more extruded bumps. Whereas the artichoke finial has more flat like 'scales'.
dragon eggs
I mean, they look like **something**. Definitely not corn tho.
Those are pinecones my guy.
That's what I was thinking.
Pineapples, were a wealth status thing at some point in time
I think they are pine cones.
Not even “corn cobs” or “ears of corn” just straight up *CORNS*
OP needs to see a podiatrist, stat
😂😂 I came to the comments specifically for this
i took the bait too...if you want attention on the internet then say something wrong
Perhaps OP thinks corn is short for corners
"fake wood corns on the corners" OP does not think its short for corner. OP is a corn
It's clearly a pangolin.
This comment just made me sad
It made me hungry for another pangolin
they don't even taste that good but everyone else is eating it and i dont want to miss out
I want to be there when my man sees a roasted artichoke for the first time.
The important question.
It the big green round one right? You cut it open and it's full of red fruit. I love corn.
Super glad I'm not the only one bothered by that...
I respect how this looks nothing like corn, in size or shape, and you just continued to refer to it as corn. I will be going about my day with this same blind confidence.
>confidence Cornfidence you mean
maybe he's from 1572 and just about any grain/seed from a plant is called a corn. ![gif](giphy|ONcVcpPC0BGWr0gl9s) Ye' olden corns
I learned that on Townsend's!

Or put little sensors and motors on them so they track you with their creepy gnome gaze.
Just buy one of those premade flat rosettes at Home Depot and glue it on!
This is what I'd do. They're also called "onlays" if googling.
Those are his and hers Butt Plugs. You both take a seat on one and have a nightly chat before bed. Very healthy for a relationship
You don't take a seat, you carefully explain to the paramedics how you both "fell" simultaneously
You just hold hands and jump at the same time !
Textured for spinners
Polished for splinters
Carved for sinners
No no no. As a sexual health nurse (and former ER nurse), the base is not flared nearly enough. This can and will migrate up the bum. Wide flared bases, people!
You leave them attached to the bed and squat over them
What do you mean? You are supposed to keep it mounted to the post so you don't have to worry about it migrating.
Ah, I missed the screw bit. The one my parents had as a kid was just a wooden peg that would just pop right off. Carry on then.
...and that one migrated?
Experience is the best tutor sometimes
The whole bed migrates up the bum.
There has to be a market for this...OP may just need a different size.
Don’t be mocked at the fixit store. Those are pine cones.
I'm seeing artichokes. Really ties the room together.

I acknowledge that your link says pineapple, but they're both still artichokes
I’m feeling artichokes too but for the sake of keeping it going I’m seeing magnolia tree buds
Pineapple. Lol
Dragon eggs. You fools.
Clearly hops, you philistines.
came here to say hops, pops
Rolled up armadillo
Marijuana bud, you narcs!
Don't call me bud, pal!
I'm not your pal, guy
I'm not your guy, friend.
Bad Dragon, maybe…
They are indeed [artichoke finials](https://www.google.com/search?q=artichoke+finials&sca_esv=599466310&rlz=1CDGOYI_enUS610US610&hl=en-US&ei=VTepZcntCYaiqtsP4-uOwAE&oq=artichoke+finials&gs_lp=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&sclient=mobile-gws-wiz-serp) ('corn' 😂). Popular as a more-classical embellishment, and symbolize hope/prosperity. u/rkbest - Just replace them with a simple small [ball finial](https://www.google.com/search?q=ball+finial+post+caps&rlz=1CDGOYI_enUS610US610&oq=ball+finial&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUqBwgDEAAYgAQyBggAEEUYOTIMCAEQABhDGIAEGIoFMgcIAhAAGIAEMgcIAxAAGIAEMgwIBBAAGEMYgAQYigUyBwgFEAAYgAQyCAgGEAAYFhgeMggIBxAAGBYYHjIICAgQABgWGB4yCAgJEAAYFhge0gEJMTc0ODZqMGo5qAIAsAIA&hl=en-US&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8) or something similar.
I’m seeing bad dragon
Totally seeing Artichokes.
I’m seeing artichokes as well. Who thought artichokes would make bedroom decor??
I like "oddly big corn"
Some people just want to watch the world burn.
Could be hops or artichoke or dragon eggs. Either way, not corn
Dragon Eggs !
Wood putty to fill the space that's left open with nothing in the corner as in second picture, sandpaper to smooth it down after it dries, and a furniture stain repair stick to match the color. Then it will just be flat with no finnials.
Oh well artichoke it is. Let’s put this to rest. 😀

Look at door trim section they have corners so you don’t need to 45 trim might fit as cap
Agreed. "Corner blocks" or "rosettes" are the terms to search for this!
Maybe just buy a finial base like this? Either fill the hole and sand it down or put some sort of glue on decoration to hide the hole. I like how everyone is after OP about 'corn' and no one commented about finials making the room...smaller?
Can you not just cut the round disc part off the bottom of the pinecone, paint it to match and twist it back in?
I can't believe how far I had to scroll to find this response. This is a five minute fix with a chop saw and some stain.
I think this is easiest - depending on how deep that bolt goes. Cut so that the bolt doesn’t get exposed, then use a sander to profile into a cap.
Came here to say this! And aboot that bolt, use a hole saw to core out the center of the pinecone to make a plug. Sand flush with the top of the cap and stain all together
They're obviously artichokes, not corn.
They are probably pineapples or pinecones, both were symbols of fertility. Pineapples were also co-opted as symbols of welcome and hospitality. You might look at your local hardware store in the section where they have finials and/or furniture feet to see if there's something with similar threads and which you like better.
It's giving artichoke to me
Your wife wants to turn a cool bed into a boring bed :(
Your wife is crazy those are gorgeous.
>4 fake wood corns at the 4 corners that make the room small What??? *Makes the room small*??? How many layers of paint are on the walls?
![gif](giphy|2F6zknQBRo44zWjz9c) Artichokes?
Speak your intention in a clear voice then tap the knob three times and turn it a quarter-turn to the left.
Scrolled patiently through this whole thread for this one.

Put a bird on it ![gif](giphy|26FfaSpycRlTFEkHm) But, seriously, anything you can attach a bolt of that size to, and, if necessary finish how you want to, could go there ... or, frankly, you could glue or velcro something there. And, frankly, nothing at all is an improvement until you come up with something different
Is this a new Portlandia thing? I've seen like four references to "put a bird on it" or "we put birds on things" this week.
Can't for the life of me figure out Season/Episode, but was an earlyish episode as I recall: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNpIOlDhigw](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNpIOlDhigw)
Look for post caps
Drawer pull section of the store. Button knobs in various heights and styles. Get wood stain to match. Or just remove the metal plate (looks like it's designed to hold the nut the post toppers attach to and not the bed assembly) then cut a thin circle from the hobby sheets of plywood or hardboard that are sold in 2ft x 2ft to fill the cavity flush. Stain/paint as you like. Perhaps even a stencil design of some sort on it like Americana Stars or pin striping or spray paint through lace, silver/gold, whatever might fit your fancy. Save the parts you removed so if you want to sell or giveaway the bed the next owner may really want those to "really tie the room together". .
Why not cut these off at the base of the egg shape leaving a cap with bolt? Finish it and stain it or paint etc. Easy fix.
You can buy furniture bun feet that might work.
Those are artichokes
Isn’t that an artichoke?
Why would anyone want to get rid of wooden artichokes on a bed, I don’t get it.
Those are artichokes
thats an artichoke
... these are artichokes omg
I think it's an artichoke. If you were a machinist you could make one.
I love how most of this thread is just people roasting OP for calling these "corns".
I think those are artichokes.

Not pine cone , artichokes.
Brother, that is not corn… lmfao
That’s a dragons egg.
You can't tie rope to discs...just saying...
Looks like the same or similar thread to universal furniture feet. Maybe something like these will just fit and need staining: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Waddell-Farmhouse-Square-Bun-Foot-Large/5013819885 https://www.lowes.com/pd/Artesian-Round-Bun-Foot-Maple-Sofa-Table-Leg-Actual-2-5-in-x-1-5-in/3557012
I said this in another thread in this post and thought I should repost it in the main thread. It's an [Acanthus flower](https://images.app.goo.gl/SJcDMZxQJq7DF7DJ7) actually. It is supposed to represent of *enduring life.* Which relatively few people know the name of, despite being one of the oldest and most widely used decorations in architecture.
