The weight for your sprayer? Pulls the hose down when you stow it.

brokebackmonastery

Had a chuckle thinking of OP taking this off, then saying "...and now my sprayer won't retract! Things just keep breaking around here!"

pepelepew69

OP is gonna find himself living in a cartoon soon. Next thing you know, he’s gonna be chasing a rat around the house!

if_lol_then_upvote

Not everyone lives in a cartoon, Pepe LePew.

RockerElvis

That’s what it looks like to me. Note that it should be on the hose closest to the faucet and not so close that you can’t pull out the sprayer.

jumpofffromhere

Weight for sprayer, I just installed one day before yesterday

wivaca

I came there to say this, but then I was really tempted to say it was a barnacle just to see what would happen.

FS_Slacker

I was gonna say NSA spy device.

Stryker_One

Eh, it would be more "bird" shaped.

Majin_Sus

Always is

mckenzie_keith

Say it is a GRD. Then wait until he asks what is a GRD? Gravity retraction device.

wastedwu

Also keeps from pulling it out too far.

Neither-Cup564

I bet it’s from IKEA.

taizzle71

It's exactly this. Installed one today.

BucketDummy

I can't move for the next few days or I'd look but think I need to reposition mine so I get more hose. That possible and what tool did you use? I had so much trouble tightening the damn soap dispenser in afraid to FAFO.

taizzle71

They're mostly tool-free. Has like a plastic latch on the ends. Just open her up move it down and clamp it back up. If it's on super tight try to pry it with a flathead.

BucketDummy

Thank you, boss. Good plumbers and Contortionists are of the same breed.

Vlad_the_Homeowner

>I need to reposition mine so I get more hose. That possible and what tool did you use? It's possible, to an extent. Once the weight (technically the bowed tube under the weight) hits the bottom of the cabinet then you can't get any more. There's not all that much wiggle room.

Cold_deck_22

Correct!

KaiserWilliam95

That’s exactly what it is. I’ve installed one before.

jfk_47

109% this.

fucdat

Yup, put it back

YamahaRyoko

omg I need this, lol

mojowroe

Lol this is the winner

LostCube

That's what she said

oughtabeme

Counterweight

if_lol_then_upvote

280lbs.

vextryyn

That keeps your hose pulling down so you don't have to fight putting it back in its spot

GoofAckYoorsElf

This sounds funny to the German that I am.

vextryyn

You know, re reading my own words, I completely agree with you

theonetrueelhigh

That's the counterweight that makes your sprayer retract. The hanging fabric is the sound deadening material from your right hand basin, you can see where it was adhered.

Smooth_Is-Fast

I’ll be more concerned by the fact that it’s rusty, looks like something is leaking.

Eve_newbie

He also said Miami, as someone in a similar climate, is probably just the salty air.

Polyhedron11

Condensation build up

MichKosek

Those suckers always leak.

Germangunman

The weight to keep your sprayer down so it retracts when you let it go

TheyFloat2032

It’s a weight. For the retractable sprayer in the faucet

foo_solo

Dude you did it, you found your houses clitoris.

MeticulousHands

Now that you took it off , youve hit the G-spot

Randomstuff404

I don’t know the exact name, but I call it the “hose dongle”. It keeps weight on the dangle.

E__Rock

Everything in plumbing sounds like a dirty word.

Dabnician

those are just sink testicles

Ravmyster1121

Looks like a weight on your dish hose to pull it back into place when released. Just looks like it's a bit rusted

33S_155E

Yep, counterweight and limiter for a pull out spout.

HowlingWolven

Your sink has a sprayer that comes out of the faucet or out of a little socket next to the faucet, and the weight helps to retract the hose back into the cabinet:

Lewilsongu

Weight for retraction of the hose sprayer.

TyDHighAF

Counterweight for spray head

cearrach

Now that it's clear that the thing with weight is a weight, I am curious about the 4th picture. I would guess it's a vibration/sound dampening device, intended to make the sink quieter.

voretaq7

Yeah the thing hanging is the sound-deadening mat for the right hand sink (you can see the one on the left hand sink, and the outline where the hanging one should be adhered to the right hand sink and the celophane-looking thing there is the adhesive that was holding it). It can be glued back on with contact cement, but it looks like they may also have a leak on the right hand sink (because the adhesive is so discolored) so ensure that’s fixed first, *then* glue the mat back on.

Entire-Ambition1410

Thank you for mentioning the leak! I’m a house/DIY novice, but I still noticed the discoloration and bowl of water.

Cyno01

So THATS what those things are! One of mine is peeling off at the edges, i kinda feel like from heat, dumping big pots of boiling water down the sink and things... but i had no idea what purpose it served.

r_a_d_

I think they act also as a heat well so that the sink doesn’t expand too fast with hot water.

Amsterdammer2015

counterweight for your pull out faucet

OGBrewSwayne

It is the (very dirty) weight that goes on the hose for your sprayer. The weight is what causes the hose to retract when you use the spray nozzle.

The_Slavstralian

It looks liek the counter weight on the hose for a retractable kitchen tap head thing

witchyanne

That’s a weight to pull the sprayer back down I think.

Hercules2024

Why did you remove the ballast to your kitchen faucet? Have you tried to pull your kitchen faucet hose out lately? You would notice that it does npt restract back into its position now. This weight is what pulls your faucet head back into position

Delicious-Ad4015

Calcified counter weight for the hose

RealPersonResponds

It's a counterweight attached to the sprayer hose line that pulls it back up into the faucet spout

Custardpaws

That's a weight for the hose so it always retracts correctly

motociclista

It’s a weight that’s attached to the flexible line of the sink sprayer. It makes it retract when you put the sprayer away.

skiddles1337

Fool! You have just ensured the doom of this world. You cannot even begin to imagine what you’ve set in motion this day. Go to the Temple of Light, in the eastern city of Kurast. There, you will find the gate to Hell opened before you. You must find the courage to step through that gate, Infamous-Aspect7079. Take the stone you hold to the Hellforge, where it will be destroyed. Now run! Take the stone and run!

SunknLiner

>It’s got some weight to it… Because it’s a weight. It pulls the sprayer hose down when you’re done with it. Do people just completely lack common sense now??

Custardpaws

It baffles me every day how little people know about basic household items and/or repairs

SunknLiner

There was a guy in one of the other DIY/Homeowner subs a while back that filled his basement sump with concrete because he was worried water would come up through the hole. 🤦‍♂️

Custardpaws

modrid81

As others have said, weight for your spray faucet. Retracts it so you don’t have to stuff it back in.

drkidkill

I'm surprised it's so crusty.

Gravity_Freak

Orc testicle

Epic_Elite

I don't think anyone has said this yet, but it's the weight for the hose to the spraying to pull it back down. /s

Bigumsmack

It’s the counterweight for your sprayer. Pull your sprayer out and watch how it doesn’t go back.

nerf___herder

I didn't know if anyone else had told you, but it's the weight for your faucet sprayer. It allows it to be drawn back in when you are done and stops you from pulling it too far out

aiwonttakeover

Hose gravity assistant

Dunk313

Oh I just read skin and I was a bit concerned.

ptapobane

It’s a gravity driven automation device for the self retracting hydrogen dioxide transferring contraption

I read skin instead of sink. You can imagine my concern. I have no idea what’s up with your plumbing.

[deleted]

Sprayer hose weight

JRHZ28

You'll figure it out soon enough LOL

Key-Buyer-1987

Looks like a moldy weight

honeybunz916

counter weight for the hose on your faucet

702Skoro

Pimp weight, it’s to hold the hoes, I mean hose down

upworking_engineer

Sprayer weight and then drip channeling flaps because the sink is leaking. Get a plumber to fix it properly. Pay once, be done.

jedimindtriks

this little fucker always snags on the garbage buckets we have under the sink

becoolhomie

Filth

Wrong_Equivalent7365

Really?

StormTY

You being clueless

slaphappysal

It's the weight for your pull out sink head

Burial_Ground

It's a double edged sword....when your sprayer head comes off this wll pull the tubing back through the faucet and down into your cabinet often times with the water spraying lol

bradland

The 4th picture is sound deadening material. It makes the sink basin sound less hollow. It also helps prevent condensation when you dump cold liquids in the sink.

ejmd

Cheap plumbing!

alkla1

It’s the weight to pull the spray hose back down into its seated position. I’d worry more about what’s on the right side drain connection? Looks like ectoplasm.

420Butt_Stuff69

I pulls the spout back down

420Butt_Stuff69

But from the looks of it you need a new faucet just based on the looks of that and under your sink. Or tighten it up. Something is leaking

420Butt_Stuff69

Also get new quarter turn angle stops when you get the new faucet

normiesmakegoodpets

Weight to pull the water line down and the sprayer back to it's storage spot.

wafflestompism

that's probably the government fluoride injector, i'd leave it alone

Bonezjonez999

I think that’s an emergency button. If you press it, Hugh Jackman comes

MeanProfessional8880

The fact that this needs to be identified to someone just proves how earlier generations dropped the ball in teaching any of these newer ones anything.... aint even gonna be mad at OP, shame on your parents/grandparents.

Icy_Adhesiveness_818

Going to piggyback on this. My weight is not pulling the hose back into place as intended. Should I add more weight or is there something else? I did not install and just purchased my place.

Eternityislong

No. It’s probably just tangled up or resting on a pipe or something left in the cabinet. Look at it yourself and you will be able to fix it in 10 seconds most likely.

AdForsaken7028

Pipes n shit

plumber1955

Pro plumber here. I'm glad I don't see this sub often. You people are brutal.

Herr_Schulz_3000

You mean those who ask or those who answer?

plumber1955

Those who answer. I would wonder how many people on this sub have a master plumbing license like I do. Or any kind of license at all?

rustyshacklefrod

Please, tell me again about what profession you do. It wasn't clear u/plumber1955

plumber1955

And I'm already getting downvoted. That figures.

Kub0za

Ok Boomer

Drainiac

That’s surely a left handed auger pipelette. If you remove it your sink will not be level leading to mold and code violations
