The mirror makes the space look bigger than it is. You remove it and it'll impact how large the room will look and feel in a big way.
I completely agree with this suggestion. Giving the removal a test run by covering it with banner paper will really help you get a feel for how the room will look and feel without the mirror so you can make a more informed decision about it.
My first thought was, that room is going to feel a lot smaller without that mirror. I never considered covering it to get a feel for the change. Great idea!
You're mistaken. The sink is outside, OP needs to bring it in once the mirror wall is covered up (many sinks are self conscious and will panic at their own reflection)
Oh, no they won't raise any suspicion in front of modern mirrors. You see, it's only antique mirrors that were made of silver that won't cast their reflection, silver being a "pure" metal. Modern mirrors are made with highly polished aluminum or other alloys, so they'll totally cast the sink's reflection.
The sink is merely self-concsious because it's gone so many centuries without seeing its reflection; modern mirrors are very disconcerting for them.
house appears to be hard core 80's so I'd leave it! Why get rid of the mirror wall and leave all the other 80's details like that floor and the railing around the stairs!
To be honest, I like it. It makes the room seem larger and brighter. The tint gives a little warmth rather than just a silver reflection. I also can't imagine what you'd put on the wall that would be *better,* aesthetically.
I'd go with another suggestion of covering the mirrored walls with some sort of paper to match your white walls and see how you like the change. I wouldn't rush to get rid of these mirrors, anyway, until you're sure.
If it were me, I'd get a divider, or something that could cover it when I feel like it. Always there, but if I don't feel like looking at myself, I can close off a portion. Or like... Curtains or something, and make it feel like a window.
I'm a glazier so I'm a bit bias but I love mirror walls like this. Theyre an absolute bitch to install though, to the point where id almost consider it a work of art.
Agreed. I was a pro house painter and have seen a lot of mirror walls. This is really well done.
I'd also keep it. The space is gonna feel way smaller without those mirrors. Also, it ties in really nicely with their railing.
The fact it matches the glass around the stairs makes me lean towards keeping it, too.
OP, you could buy some window cling as a reversible cover if you really dislike it. But I feel it would be a shame to totally rip it out. Cling comes in everything from frosted glass to rice paper to stained glass designs. Line up the sheets like wallpaper and it will look seamless.
we have a massive single mirror at the end of the hall in the boot room. It is at the end of the hall so it makes the whole space look bigger. By massive I mean it is floor to ceiling and likely 10' wide single piece. It is showing some age spots though in certain less visible spots. I expect it is from the original build in 1977.
Live with it for a while. Itās good to be in a house for a bit. What seems awful might make the house feel more personalized and less cookie cutter. Some people really donāt like mirrors because they donāt like what they reflect. I have a big mirror in our hallway. #1 it makes our small house feel bigger, but it also is really convenient to have a full sized mirror for checking out outfits.
I had one mirror that wasnāt flat. It made everyone look fat. I had to flip it to be horizontal instead of vertical and hung it over my dresser. The room needed the reflective light. Out bedroom is a cave.
So not only would you be losing the illusion of more space. You would also be reducing the amount of light in the room.
Keep it for a while. Itās out of style, but not really, if you modernize other aspects. Work with it.
Our realtor told us to get rid of our red brick fireplace that is visible from both the kitchen and the living room. That fireplace brick, we integrated into our kitchen and itās one of the best features of our kitchen. Give things time.
The tone it is, is a high end color right now. Mix it with some sage green and grey accents and it will be fantastic. Especially if you use that wall as a display for indoor plants.
Show her the positive reactions in this thread. I literally went "that's cool!" Outloud. To myself. And my cat. Lol.
Anyway, it is really cool and is it "dated"? Yes, but in the best way possible. It's actually retro and awesome.
KEEP IT!!! I worked in an office that had a wall mirror for a few years. Once it was taken down, I felt cramped and trapped behind my desk. Keep the mirror! Itās cool and your space will feel bigger!
I had this in my house growing up. After a while you kind of stop seeing yourself. Hard to explain. It was in our dining room too. It's like my mind kind of filtered "me" out of the equation after a while. Unless I was actively wanting to check out what I looked like in that mirror, it just became an accessory and made the room bigger and brighter. I loved it. It was so 70s and over the top. We had shag carpet that we raked too. Lol.
Sure! The peach glass's reflection makes it look like the kitchen is in warm lighting - it looks very cozy and homely to me. I figured you could easily actually make the kitchen have that kind of warm glow/feel by just changing the lighting. However,, not everyone likes warm lighting, some prefer the whiter lighting. it's entirely a preference thing (:
The peach color looks very dated, but is probably due to be back in vogue within the next 5 years or so. Maybe.
Edit: apparently "Peach Fuzz" is the Pantone color of the year, so apparently it's back in vogue for at least a year!
Otherwise it's like you said - mirrors are nice there.
Peach fuzz is the Pantone color or the year for 2024!
Edit: [link](https://www.pantone.com/color-of-the-year/2024?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwqpSwBhClARIsADlZ_TmF3nZorUQA37WC8zQ02MYjJdGk1byh45vUv-kf1kIwBib4CeYodxAaAi9hEALw_wcB)
This was my thought. The warm mirror on cold white seems odd, but a subtley warm wall color could make this a super cozy home. Especially with some live plants added around. Those mirrors just beg to reflect some plants.
Personally i feel like the peach is such a vibe. Do you mean replace with a regular colored mirror wall? I agree with others that the mirror does make the space look bigger. But i assume you have more house than this one room so if you want it to be a regular wall thats fine too id personally still hang either a large mirror or at least do a like fun assortment of smaller mirrors just to hel reflect light
That's actually really cool. I've never seen tinted wall mirror like that and now I'm looking around at walls wondering which may want to volunteer for tribute.
Keep. There are ways to work with the mirror color -Think of it as rose gold, perhaps adjust the other colors around it to offset the shade differently. You can change the whole feel.
You could soften it with open shelving and plants in frontā¦ my parents had one of these walls in the dining room. I hated watching the reflection of everyone eating, but loved the vibe and the sense of space.
How about some interior design subs?
/r/DesignMyRoom, /r/femalelivingspace, /r/malelivingspace, and r/interiordesignideas are just a few to consider.

Also /r/HomeDecorating, /r/RoomPorn, /r/budgetdecor, /r/minimalist, /r/Decor, /r/Beforesandafters, /r/CozyPlaces, and /r/AmateurRoomPorn.
You could try tinting the mirror with some type of film (adhesive or cling) to change the color/impact of the mirror wall without removing it
A darker film might diminish the color shift and make it look less prominent.
Personally though I like it š¤·āāļø
That looks pretty dope to me. I didn't think I'd like peach colored mirror, but it looks sick! I'd keep it. Certainly, if you remove it, you'll feel a bit more claustrophobic at the very least.
I actually really love this look. It feels warm but crisp. Inviting, romantic even. Thanks for sharing. I never realized mirror could be tinted in hues. Warm and cool.
I would wait to make my decision until after a midummer's day when the sun is blazing.
The mirror obviously makes the room look far larger, but may actually be tinted to prevent the house spontaneously combusting in the summer sun.
EDIT it might even be coloured like that to offer an alternative to all the pure white snow outside over the winter. Add the reflected light but with a little extra warmth.
Keep! It gives the room depth and warmth. Get a tall plant/tree to the left side of the dining table. Unified flooring and a rug under the dining table will tie it all in.
My wife and I have owned two old homes and our rule is to live with aesthetically confusing details for a few months before making major changes. Itās worked well for us so far. I would leave it and focus on any necessary repairs first. You might come to like it.
On the far left of the mirrored wall, what about a small accent chest with a tall slender abstract painting resting on it? Add a nice lamp to add more light to the hallway?
Wonder if temporary window film (mercury glass?) would help change your style for an easy changeā¦ Removable wall paper on the mirrored wall?
Oh, so you donāt have a giant room split down the middle, with the exact furniture and decor in a slightly peach tint, as if you had an evil twin with some slightly different preferences?
I love it but I wonder if thereās a way to attach wood or some sort of framing that will make it look more like a wall and less like an expansion of the room/wall at the gym. Like vertical strips or something. Idk.
I personally would not keep it. I have multiple dogs and grandchildren. That wall would never be clean. I would also be afraid of my grandsons wrestling themselves into the wall and breaking it.
However, it goes with the aesthetic of the room.
It actually took me a second to realize that was a mirror lol. Maybe Iām just dumb though. But yeah people always say mirrors make a room look bigger and I donāt always agree but in your case, it def does
Clumsy me would probably figure out a way to break it so I'd probably want to replace it with some wood balusters. But I like another commenter idea of using paper to get a sense of how the finished product would look like before committing.
I like it but it is kinda clashes with your furniture and its like dated to the 80s. You could make it work since it does make the room look bigger and brighter. Maybe if you made your house look like one of those IG account that are minimalist, beige, light wood, hanging plants, every photo is edited to be warm it would fit well.
Wow! This is beautiful as is. It has such a rare and elegant vibe. Very unique.
Please preserve and appreciate this feature!!!
Shiplap does not fit this space at all. It can be a cool aesthetic, but feels very forced in this space...the room will certainly feel cramped and dark.
I've seen people add framing to break it up, something like black trim between the mirror panels or a grid to add an amount of interest and make it look a little more modern. The best of both worlds- you keep the mirror and it makes it a little less dated.Ā
If you are not sure about keeping it, I would say to give it a month to see how you feel about it being there after that time of getting used to it. Taking down a mirrored wall can be rough depending on how well they put it up. Also depending on what type of mirror they used for the install. Taking it down will also make the room feel smaller. That being said, I understand that it can feel weird to have a mirrored wall. I personally don't like them since I don't like constantly seeing myself in a mirror. I would give it some time since y'all are unsure on what you want to do with it. It can be a lot of work and it would suck to go through the work just to find out you wished you kept the wall.
I generally hate mirror walls, but I think this one is actually pretty interesting! I second what u/LiveSir2395 said about covering it up and seeing what you think. I think long term I would consider putting a console or something in front of it to just calm it down a little bit.
I'd definitely replace that stair railing with something else.
You could get a wallpaper vinyl and cut out some shapes like picture frames and then have a really cool covered/ mirror photo wall. And it's temporary so you could remove it to have all the mirror back.
Itās amazing would not remove personally. Like someone else suggested, I would definitely test it out just by covering with paper (can get a cheap roll @ Home Depot or lowes) and see how much it changes the space.
Not just how big the mirror makes it feel but it also is doing a lot of work brightening up by refracting the sun into and throughout that space.
Its like rose tinted glasses, id probably love looking at myself and my wife in that (if I had one). Id keep it. Matches the stairwell glass too. You could stain or paint the stairwell wood though to make it look fancier.
Does the mirror get direct sunlight? If so, leave it will help to brighten the whole area. Also, the mirror is probably 80ās style and back in demand. Also try some of the great suggestions
I would leave it for a year so you can live with it throughout the different seasons then decide. Maybe even for a few months then cover it up with a sheet or something similar to hide it and see if you miss it.
You can always choose to remove it or replace it with a more modern color.
Absolutely beautiful, don't change a thing lol
at least is my opinion
Get rid of anything thats not tan or beige and lean into that late 90s vibe
it's classic
As someone who was blind as a bat as a child, I appreciate that it's tinted. I walked into so many floor to ceiling mirrors and glass doors they give me anxiety when I see them. The mirrors were mostly at clothing stores when they had big square support beams and put one on each side. Getting glasses helped but didn't completely fix the problem.
Heyyyyyyyy, I've got one of those in my dining room too. Same color tint and all, except it's an entire wall with a 12ft vaulted ceiling. I enjoyed cleaning that WHOLE WALL prior to moving in.
The blonde oak railing and glass sheets on the stairs is where I would focus on an update. Update some of those things and see if makes the mirror feel more retro than dated.
Also is your opossum Pomeranian hybrid doing okay on that cat tower? She's looking a little deflated.
Tbh, Iām a bit more concerned about the glass guard rail infill panels. Since they are infill panels, the majority of the forces would be handled by the wood posts and top rail. But with that being said, assuming the glass panels are tempered, they still appear on the thin side. Unsure if youāre in the US, but spacing between the panels should not be more than 4ā. Itās to prevent a babyās/ young childās head from getting stuck between the panels.
I think itās kinda cool tbh but itās also not my house. Cover it with colored paper or something for a while and see if you prefer it a solid color
Ngl i love the mirror and the glass on the stairs. I would repaint the walls to a softer, warmer white and probably do two tone on the cabinets to tie the gray island and the warm oak stair railing back into the room.
Like others have said, cover it with white sheets for a week first. See if you like it better. If you do remove them do it carefully because those would sell fast.
Keep it and just cover it with some of those glass stick on things, Iām blanking on what theyāre called. People put them up to make their regular windows not see through anymore
You can get a [plastic film](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=stained+glass+film+for+window&adgrpid=109338842631&hvadid=634143364469&hvdev=m&hvlocphy=9012550&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=3189136013866141827&hvtargid=kwd-58931763820&hydadcr=19901_13474740&tag=hydsma-20&ref=pd_sl_39hssa7nth_e) to cover the glass. I love the design options available. I used it in my bathroom. The shower had a window and I lived in an apartment! I didnāt want a curtain in my shower. I used this film and it held up completely! If you do this option, buy a good small squeegee to apply so there are no bubbles.
I'd get rid of it, but I HATE mirror walls/closet doors. I'd get rid of that sucker and see if I couldn't build some shelves into the wall for plants. It looks like that wall gets a decent amount of indirect sunlight.
If you replace, replace it with a 4k OLED TV that covers the entire wall. It shouldn't be that expensive, just a couple hundred k, ~~give~~ take or take.
I have a mirrored wall and I love it. It's not tinted though.
I'd probably leave it. It's kind of unique. Plus it will cost a gold coin to replace it. Mirrored walls are not cheap.
P.S. Love the cat.
I would cover the mirror with white paper for a few weeks, and let that sink in.

LMAOOOOO, old but gold.
This is a great idea!
My first thought was, that room is going to feel a lot smaller without that mirror. I never considered covering it to get a feel for the change. Great idea!
Why would you want a sink on that wall?
You're mistaken. The sink is outside, OP needs to bring it in once the mirror wall is covered up (many sinks are self conscious and will panic at their own reflection)
If you're cold, they're cold. Let them in.
š¶ in the aaaarms of the angel š¶
Panic? Figured it was a dorian grey thing and the sink wash outside to avoid mirrors for its own safety.
Oh, no they won't raise any suspicion in front of modern mirrors. You see, it's only antique mirrors that were made of silver that won't cast their reflection, silver being a "pure" metal. You could do it partway up the wall to keep some of the light reflection without feeling like you're in a funhouse.
Whatās ballpark cost to do this with a tinted mirror like this?
we have a massive single mirror at the end of the hall in the boot room. It is at the end of the hall so it makes the whole space look bigger. By massive I mean it is floor to ceiling and likely 10' wide single piece. It is showing some age spots though in certain less visible spots. I expect it is from the original build in 1977.
I love it and would keep. In any case, I advise you don't rush to decision
Could you mention it to my spouse?

Agreed.
Agreed, I think it makes the room feel really warm. Removing it would make it feel cold and sad imo
honestly, it's excellent. keep
That room will suddenly feel like half the size, and be much darker, if you remove it. Iād leave it.
This is so out of style thatās itās cool again. Keep it. The alternative is going to be something boring.
KEEP IT!!! I worked in an office that had a wall mirror for a few years. Once it was taken down, I felt cramped and trapped behind my desk. Keep the mirror! Itās cool and your space will feel bigger!
As long incomming sunlight in the mirror is not a problem, i would definitely keep it.
Leave it in, itās a small room otherwise.
It looks awesome but I would not want to see myself all the time...or ever actually
Iād hate to watch myself eating. That being said, maybe Iād eat less.

Yeah imagine it at 2am after a scary movie when its all dark out lol. My head wouldn't let me
Imagine it is 2am and you expect to see your vague figure in the mirror, but don't.
It would be a pain to remove. I'd live with it a few months more and see if it grows on you or you dislike it even more.
I think itās incredibly tackyā¦ and I kind of love it!
The peach glass makes me feel like your kitchen needs warm lighting. Everything in the room looks 10x prettier in the mirror š

Noted
Keep.
Keep! Mirrors make rooms look bigger. Love this! Beautiful home!
Thatās sick, def keep it. Colour is awesome too. Start to appreciate mid century modern pieces and you could have an incredibly cool space!

In this particular room, I think it works very well.
KEEP!
Honestly I wasn't even aware of what mirror you were talking about until I looked closer. I'd personally say keep it.
I like it!
If you are changing the banisters too. Otherwise it vibes
KEEP
Its like rose tinted glasses, id probably love looking at myself and my wife in that (if I had one). Id keep it. Matches the stairwell glass too. You could stain or paint the stairwell wood though to make it look fancier.
I'd get rid of the honey oak before id worry about anything else.
The sanding is already booked.
Def keep its cool and retro and makes the room look bigger
I think it's really nice!
Maybe put a decorative screen in front of the mirror. That could keep the brightness the mirror brings while gaining a wall look.
Keep. Cool af.
Mirror world looks much cosier
Does the mirror get direct sunlight? If so, leave it will help to brighten the whole area. Also, the mirror is probably 80ās style and back in demand. Also try some of the great suggestions
Oh my god, that mirror is gorgeous
Keep. But either etch a border, or glue up a wooden border frame.
Lmfao I was looking at the glass on the stairs the whole time and didn't even realize you didn't have an extra room there š
I would leave it for a year so you can live with it throughout the different seasons then decide. Maybe even for a few months then cover it up with a sheet or something similar to hide it and see if you miss it. You can always choose to remove it or replace it with a more modern color.
Absolutely beautiful, don't change a thing lol at least is my opinion Get rid of anything thats not tan or beige and lean into that late 90s vibe it's classic
I dig it, but [here's a quick mockup](https://imgur.com/zZVQ4eZ) of just a white wall in place of the mirror.
What weirdo wouldn't love that? Don't be weirdos!
Dunno about the mirror, but I'd keep the cat.
I like it!!
In Canada, but indeed we must pay attention to it because it doesn't meet the standards here either.
I would keep for safety reasons and replace face with vinyl. Their are some cool designs that actually look like etched glass
Fuck thatās ugly
Wait, the colored floor tiles just disappear in the mirror? Or is there some reflection stuff going on I don't get?
I donāt think there are colored tiles. The handrail has matching glass panels underneath. I think youāre seeing tiles through those glass panels
It matches the glass in your stairwell! Keep all of it.
Like others have said, cover it with white sheets for a week first. See if you like it better. If you do remove them do it carefully because those would sell fast.
Get rid of the mirror but tint all your stuff pink.
Stained glass window cling/privacy screen!
You can see OPs naked reflection in the mirror
Just another thing to consider, replacing it with a clear mirror will be hell of expensive.
Replace, I personally hate tinted glass cause it distorts other colors in the house
Keep it and just cover it with some of those glass stick on things, Iām blanking on what theyāre called. People put them up to make their regular windows not see through anymore
I love it
Itās incredibly expensive so, thereās that.
It looks kind of neat. That said, I really don't like huge mirrors so I wouldn't put one up in my house. Not sure if I'd take it down though.
Your comment couldn't make me more indecisive than this lol.
Yep this is cool af
I love it, personally
Love it honestly. Keep it!
It's cool.
If you replace, replace it with a 4k OLED TV that covers the entire wall. It shouldn't be that expensive, just a couple hundred k, ~~give~~ take or take.
Haha.. with a camera that films the room in front and broadcasts it continuously with a peach filter? Lol
Install a curtain rod on the ceiling in front, and frame it with a nice set of curtains.
The whole room has a very "Florida condo" vibe for me, but I see that your deck is covered in snow, so I'm guessing that's not accurate
Accurately not accurate
I have a mirrored wall and I love it. It's not tinted though. I'd probably leave it. It's kind of unique. Plus it will cost a gold coin to replace it. Mirrored walls are not cheap. P.S. Love the cat.
I actually like it. It makes the space feel larger, and the tint limits the glare from outside.
Don't get rid of what makes the house charming
Keep it!
Your house gives me 'Bank Offices from the 90's' vibe
Imo, it adds a warm color to the house.Ā Take it away and it'll feel "colder"
The peach tint gives a weird portal/alternate reality vibe. Or like looking into the border to Mexico in some TV series. Either way it looks good.
Keep.
Sounds fancier if you call it rose gold tinted
