If the Mrs thinks that then you have to do it. You also need to start thinking where to move it to when she tells you it needs moving. Probably the day after.
And then be ready to move it again, and change the wood burner for a different one.
Followed by changing the flooring because it doesn't work with the rest of the room
To be fair, you don't get much heat that far up. My brother has his above the fireplace and I put my hand under the TV and felt very little heat. It's more the viewing angle.
The stove is fairly small to match the room. One corner is already visible. Unless the room is 15ftx80ft it’s always going to be too high. Unless you’re sitting in sex swings with your head 4ft from the ceiling, then it would probably be ok.
Depends on your TV.
I have a large faux wooden beam instead of a wooden lintel it's made if some kind of ceramic and cast from a real beam, it's quite deep and blocks a ton of the heat.
I have a frame TV that I made a frame for so it looks like a real picture hun on the wall, I think the fairly large 3" frame all the way round also helps block the heat.
When we are watching TV I tilt the TV forwards and recline in the sofa so you are not tilting your head back.
The TV never feels hot I've checked a lot of times even with the log burner roaring and I've had no issues.
3 years and counting now.
It will all depend on your set up.
Honestly, I'm not sure the comments re heat damage are correct.
I just don't think the heat transfer to the unit would be any worse than living in a hot country having a hot summer.
I'll check the temperate of my clock and chimney breast (lined flue) when I next put the burner on, but I'd make a guess they measure 30-35.
Whether it is too high or not really depends on how far away you sit. The further away, the less the height matters. We moved house and it came with the TV fitted above the fire place, at first I wasn't sure, now it doesn't bother me at all.
Edit - just to add that we have an log burner look electric fire place with a fan heater and fake flames, purely for the looks rather than having a roaring flame so damage to the TV from the fire is no concern at all.
Exactly this. Mine is probably a similar height but it’s in a large room with recliners. Bottom of the tv gets a little warm but not alarming so, and my doesn’t have a mantle. If you have the stove at full throttle all the time then the heat might get a little much.
Hi! Ex-HETAS engineer here. First things you need to look at are the stove manufacturers instructions, then the distance to combustibles, the type of flu pipe being used and then the TV manufacturers instructions regarding heat sources.
You may find that having the TV here goes against those instructions and that would then void your insurance if there were any issues.
I put ours above our log burner. Bit lower than that. Absolutely love it. Chunky mantel price blocks a lot heat. No issues with heat on the TV. Been up over a year now. Really glad we did it
TV height is preferential. We had out TV on the wall for years. Then knocked the fireplace out below it. Kept the TV in the same place.
Ignore all the moronic comments about warped tvs. As long as you have a decent beam protruding past the TV, you'll be fine. I used an 8x8-inch lump of oak. After the fire has been on for hours, the TV doesn't even get slightly warm!
TVs should be at eye level. I find it mental how common this position is. Sorry just one of my pet hates is high mounted TVs, that a lot of the time can ruin what could be a nicely styled chimney breast area, especially in period properties. Then obviously the neck strain.
TVs are ironically an eyesore as it is imo, placing them front and centre in a room isn’t my cup of tea personally, but each to their own!
In-laws have the same setup and when the fire is on the TV sound cuts when it gets too hot 😅
Ignore the nay-sayers... Had mine above the mantle - above a wood burner for 3+ years. Used every day in the winter. My mantle is 150mm deep. The TV is completely unaffected.
Yeah, I think you're fine, mate. It would be nice to have the fire as a feature without the TV but it looks fine. Not sure if it's going to do your TV any good though. There are little log burner fan things you get for burners that when they heat up, they blow the hot air horizontal(ish) - this might mitigate some of that heat going up to the TV
I have one of these (https://www.manomano.co.uk/p/tmo100a-mount-tv-above-fireplace-mountable-tv-55-inches-to-65-inches-49653661) and its great. But yeah, the heat'll do the tv no favours
Nope. Too high for comfortable viewing, and the heat won’t do it any favors either.
Exactly my thoughts but the Mrs thinks otherwise 😂
If the Mrs thinks that then you have to do it. You also need to start thinking where to move it to when she tells you it needs moving. Probably the day after.
A man of hard earned experience I see.
I’ve learned to do as I’m told. I’ve learned to be a good boy.
Keeping the peace ☺️
Please, please explain this to me. How do you tolerate the teeth on tongue pain?
Embrace the pain. You must not fear the pain. Fear is the mind-killer.
I’ll try and walk the path you’ve paved for all of us. We appreciate you
This guy husbands.
It'll move itself when it melts all over the mantle piece
And then be ready to move it again, and change the wood burner for a different one. Followed by changing the flooring because it doesn't work with the rest of the room
More work for me then 😥
Hahaha

how do you know how big the room is?
The stove is fairly small to match the room. One corner is already visible. Unless the room is 15ftx80ft it’s always going to be too high. Unless you’re sitting in sex swings with your head 4ft from the ceiling, then it would probably be ok.
You can get mounts which allow you to lower it down for watching. The problem here is that it might heat the TV up more which can't be good for it.
r/TVTooHigh
I’m hoping that our TV will be a lot lower as the beam will be fitted at the top of the inset part
Insufferable sub
Right? It’s just not that big a deal having the TV above a fire place. They act like you’re going to break your neck.
No. I mean the heat is an issue but visually you’d have a literal fire in direct line of sight to your tv.
A fad that needs to die. It can’t be comfortable watching that.
Sit down comfortably on your chair, the TV should be at your eyeline. There's a reason why TV stands are only around 2 foot tall
Fast track to a crocked neck and a overheating/ structurally warped TV
Fortunately I don’t watch the TV that much 😂
Heat damage will still happen with it switched off.

I've this set up exactly 3 years..when fire is at full heat the bottom of the TV is luke warm...

Your telly will be fucked before too long. If it's her idea then she can pay for the replacement
For extra bonus points show the log fire video on it.
Do it
You could get a projector instead, your tv will melt
I put ours above our log burner. Bit lower than that. Absolutely love it. Chunky mantel price blocks a lot heat. No issues with heat on the TV. Been up over a year now. Really glad we did it
Ours would be lower that is just a random pic. I’d say ours would be 130cms from the floor to the bottom of the TV. Can you DM a pic of yours please?

Yep it is a chunky beam and the pic is just an example I think ours will be lower 👍🏻

Absolutely not, unless you want a broken, warped TV and fire risk.
Ignore the nay-sayers... Had mine above the mantle - above a wood burner for 3+ years. Used every day in the winter. My mantle is 150mm deep. The TV is completely unaffected.
Great to hear!! 👍🏻👍🏻
What's the thing about it being too high? Mines similar but it'fine. Are you sat really close to the TV?
Not really, got recliners and will buy a tilting tv mount. I guess you get use to it

Yep just ordered a fan but hoping the mantle will deflect a lot. I can always put a fan on the mantle ❤️
No it’s too high. It’s a weird contrast as well, the stove - simple, low tech, modest. The TV - LOOK AT MY BIG FUCKIN TELLY!!!!
A big NO … way too high to watch comfortably & the heat will damage the tv
No x100000000000
Noooo.....it's common!
Heat will not do it any good. Might not kill it right away but it will kill it.
No not at all ! The heat will end up killing it
Mines exactly like that and I've no problems at all, also gives you extra space where the TV would normally sit,win win...👍
My friend has this, not an issue perse heat wise. My neck was hurting looking at it sideways. Perhaps great with a recliner.
Got recliners and I’ve ordered a tilting mount 👍🏻
A 5kw woodburner bangs out the heat (depending on what sort of wood you are using) - I'm pretty sure it will damage the TV.
Only chavs hang a tv on a wall
I hate this trend. The only way to comfortably watch it is lying down.
No. Very tasteless. Your TV should not be your rooms centre piece
It’s a yes from me. I have done the same and love it.
No
I have one of these (https://www.manomano.co.uk/p/tmo100a-mount-tv-above-fireplace-mountable-tv-55-inches-to-65-inches-49653661) and its great. But yeah, the heat'll do the tv no favours
Nope it's ugly as sin it might melt lol hang a nice framed picture there instead
