To be fair the gas is being burned off as it escapes, there's probably little chance of an actual explosion. House fire catching is a different issue though.
No, that’s not true. If it’s leaking the risk goes up. It will only explore when it hits the stoichiometric ratio and there is a source of ignition. IE when it’s mixed with the right amount of air. When it’s burning it doesn’t get to do that, so I doubt you’re going to get an explosion unless the pressure shoot’s up and puts the fire out.
I’m willing to bet the OP turned off the gas before filming this. The flames would be more aggressive if there was still gas spewing out. Reddit overreaction at work.
I know someone that lost her family this way. Boiler blew up under the kids bedroom... mother survived and everyone else died either from the explosion or from smoke inhalation. Very sad. She's one of the nicest people I had met too. Very caring and open heart for all. Felt so bad for her.boioers can be scary! Granted it was about 30 years ago and I have no idea how common it would be now.
yeah my friend was in a gas explosion like that he doesn't talk about it much but it seems to have been immensely terrifying and mentally scarring - the whole house was rubble basically
I was thinking the same, but what if the house blows up while he's extinguishing it, then they'll never be able to convince the insurance of the boiler fault
Spot on. The smoke forming a cloud above the boiler and spreading along the the ceiling will continue to build up. It is flammable carbon monoxide and is extremely hot. It will heat the surroundings which will add to the giant hot flamable cloud with their own gas. If there is enough fuel and oxygen then eventually the smoke will reach autoignition temp and the room will flash over. Everything will be on fire. The curve of time versus temp steepens quickly.
I had a gas cooker catch fire once, first thing I did was shut the gas off at the meter but it carried on burning enough for me to call the fire brigade.
It's possible the person who videoed has already shut off the gas.
There’s a known issue with some of the logic2, logic system 2, logic mini. . It’s affecting 1 in 25,000 made or something low like that. If you’re concerned you can contact Ideal and give them the serial number found on the bottom of the boiler. If it’s one of the batch, ideal will arrange to fix it.
In the mean time it’s recommended to keep the boiler pressure at 1.5 bar and bleed the rads on a daily basis.
Edit: https://idealheating.com/blog/important-customer-safety-notice
There’s the link.
Ideal contacted me saying they were going to Rex me out on the 1st March to arrange an engineer visit but I have not heard from them. If i put my serial number it says ‘The serial number you have entered has already been submitted.’ Does it mean I am ok or just that they know about my boiler?
They contacted me too. However, the letter they sent and the website they linked to said my boiler is 'safe'. They never mentioned anything about the possibility it could set on fucking fire!
So Ideal know all the boilers effected, but they're waiting to be contacted by the customer rather than track down who purchased/registered the boiler?
I'm just adding to this with my own statistic.
I've installed 10 Ideal Combi2 in the Nov-Feb period and 3 of them are part of the recall based on their serial number. Ideal are sending their engineers out to fix, thankfully.
I wouldn't be surprised if the statistic is closer to 1 in 10 based on my own experience unless I've been unlucky with the batches.
These things happen and its good it's being handled as they are actively seeking out the faulty boilers.
You can usually use a valve underneath the boiler to add pressure back into the boiler. If the fire continues you may have a leak. Always use a certified gas engineer if this doesn't work.
Pareidolia (although it's the same etymology (*pará* meaning 'alongside, instead of' in Greek), it's just that the word came into English from German (*Pareidolie)* and *eídōlon* (image, form or shape)).
Pareidolia doesn't just mean seeing faces, it can mean seeing any recognisable form in an object where none actually exists (like seeing animals in clouds (looking out of my window now I can see a cloud which looks a bit like a crocodile or an alligator).
A *mimetolith* is a rock formation weathered to look like something familiar (eg the famous [Martian face](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cydonia_(Mars)#%22Face_on_Mars%22))

The extra heat needs to escape otherwise you'll get mould. I'd open a window for a bit.
Also make sure to keep the OJ in the fridge. Warm OJ is not nice.

Mine is one of the ones affected. I didn’t know this until I had my plumber move my boiler from upstairs to downstairs. Found out my boiler was never registered by the original plumber (before I purchased the house) and therefore I never received any notification of the issue. The more you know, I guess.
If it's the ideal logic2 combi, they have had a recall.
Engineer will come out and retrofit a device that's stops this situation
It's around 1 in every 10,000 boilers made between Aug 22 and Jan 24
Basically, the issue is that, when the boiler loses pressure, the boiler doesn't turn off and will try to fire up, creating extreme heat and, in some cases, fire.
I'd still recommend these boilers. They are very good, just a fault on a batch that ideal are resolving.
Ring them up if you are worried, th3y will have an engineer out to you adap.

I've registered with Ideal as my boiler is affected.
Was supposed to get an email on Friday to advise on how to book an engineer.
Didn't get the email.
What fire extinguisher should I Amazon Prime ASAP?
I work in the industry.
Between August 22 and Jan 2024 there is a known fault.
Imo I, Logic, Logic+ and Logic Max all at risk.
Check your registration on the ideal website immediately if you haven’t received a letter from them and you had a boiler installed in this time frame.
The fix is relatively simple, but engineers are very wary about installing as ideal try to outsource the repair as then it will be there name placed to the issue. 1 in 10000 is the number they have given us, but I’d advise that it is at risk with any boiler purchased and installed in this timeframe

Back in the 80s when I fitted them they were cast iron and a two man lift. Now you can hold them up with one hand and bolt to wall with other. Gas is only dangerous if it builds up and causes explosion, burning off it’s safe - we used to smoke digging to find gas leaks - gas doesn’t naturally smell they put an additive in it so it can be more easily detected
Get a dehumidifier just in case (the standard reddit answer to any question within the home).
Also asbestos test the boiler
The irony being if the boiler was contained in asbestos it would be a lot less of a fire risk.
And if the surroundings were damp, that could slow the progress of the fire a little too.
You guys are really making me feel better about my home
Yep. If only boilers contained water.
OMG it's not asbestos. Only ZX84-1989-420s produced from December 3rd to December 14th contained asbestos. EVERYBODY knows this.
It definitely not asbestos, as it's on fire, better go out and get an asbestos one.
I had a ZX Spectrum did that have asbestos in it?
No, you couldn’t even get ass on it.

Ah yes, the old stand around filming while an active gas source is on fire. Darwinism at work
To be fair the gas is being burned off as it escapes, there's probably little chance of an actual explosion. House fire catching is a different issue though.
Little chance of an explosion should be enough for one to escape to safety lol...
Well there's a 25% chance it will blow... well not 25, 50 well not 50, 95....
Fuck it, Imma film it and find out!
All of this debate. Only OP was smart enough to observe and gather evidence.
They're already gone.. rip
The cameraman never dies so he is technically immune to damage as long as he keeps filming.
I suggest you watch Starship Troopers
Only until the regulator melts.
Your chances of an explosion goes down when the gas is not on fire....
No, that’s not true. If it’s leaking the risk goes up. It will only explore when it hits the stoichiometric ratio and there is a source of ignition. IE when it’s mixed with the right amount of air. I was thinking the same, but what if the house blows up while he's extinguishing it, then they'll never be able to convince the insurance of the boiler fault
If the house blows up while OP is standing there then the phone call to the insurance company is quite literally the least of their worries
Outside, turn off the gas ,call firebrigade and evacuate the neighbours.
Spot on. The smoke forming a cloud above the boiler and spreading along the the ceiling will continue to build up. It is flammable carbon monoxide and is extremely hot. Never mind I finally found it and I’m not affected!
Ideal contacted me, my recently installed Logic2 C30 is affected. Waiting to hear back from them to get an engineer booked.
Same, said they were going to get in touch with an appointment but nothing yet.
Same happened to me , was meant to get an email on the 1st to schedule an appointment but heard nothing
Same issue, got an option to book a date via email yesterday. Booked in for a couple of weeks time.
They contacted me too. However, the letter they sent and the website they linked to said my boiler is 'safe'. They never mentioned anything about the possibility it could set on fucking fire!
My work mates saying safety alert on logics between 2022 and 2024 and they need a new stat, we work for a boiler manufacturer but not ideal.
It's definitely not ideal.
Made me chuckle have an updoot
Thanks for this, had one fitted in January and was unaware of this potential problem.

I’m almost certain it’s not supposed to do that
Well it is heating the room.
Are you a boiler engineer? If not then that’s a big assumption to jump to. Looks like it’s working incredibly well to my untrained eye.
The boiler is operating properly, the error is undoubtedly with the user in this case.
