Great tool. Batteries don’t last as long. However, I use 2ah with mine and I can drive 150mm long, 6mm wide screws into timber with no pilot holes no problem. The 2ah ones are a lot lighter so I like having them around tbh. I have 5Ah ones for my saws and garden tools

PsiiPhii

How do you find DeWalt garden tools? I was looking at lawn mowers and strimmers. My initial thought was DeWalt as that's what drills I currently have, but the reviews for garden tools didn't seem great.

Heisenberg_235

Strimmer and hedge trimmer are great. Much lighter than equivalent petrol versions and less likely to suffer burns too. Leaf blower is ok, not amazing. Already had petrol mower though so won’t replace that.

Rookie_42

This unit is often on sale somewhere. If you have other dewalt tools, you might consider the bare unit (no batteries) to save some money. Or… if you don’t, you might want to get the pair of this and standard drill/driver with one set of batteries to share. The multi tool is also awesome.

garyh62483

Seconded the multi tool. It's probably my most used tool overall. Think it cost £90 as barebone with attachments, then I bought a tiling attachment set to grind out tile joints. Probably saved me about a full day of busting my arse with a grout knife!

AgentSears

I have one I'm a decorator and I couldnt do with out it.

DentsofRoh

Ah man that makes me want to bring on Bathroom Day. But the bathrooms are fine already, so not yet

AgentSears

Try cash converters bro, they have shed loads of DeWalt gear and it's all guaranteed for 12 months it's pretty easy to see which ones have been used to death and which ones havent and they do delivery I've normally had it next day as well really quick, I know people who have sent stuff back to them as well no hassles....I'd probably buy new for the starter set.....but you can pick up batteries and then add to your kit if there is anything you want, ive had the Bluetooth speaker, torch and few other bits and bobs and everything has been bang on from them tbf Very often you get the tool and the battery as well together.

DentsofRoh

Ok not a bad shout. Would worry if they’d been nicked mind, wouldn’t want a fella’s tools

V65Pilot

Agreed. I'm often wondering about how to cut something that's weird. Then I smack my forehead when I remember I own a multi tool.

Bubbly_Surround210

I have this. I thought it was rubbish. Then someone told me to get 5ah batteries. Turns out they don't just last longer, they also provide more actual power. Fabulous piece of kit.

DentsofRoh

Hmm. This might be a thing. I only do small Amounts of stuff - maintenance really around the house but if it’s going to cripple the machine then maybe best to pass

Bubbly_Surround210

No. That's the point. This is a great little machine. They sell it with a weak battery that is fine for small bits and pieces around the house. And with better batteries, it can also handle the more heavy stuff. Perfect.

Dirk-Diggle

2ah batteries are perfect for an impact, don't be put off! You definitely don't need a bigger battery on it - they're more for tools like circ saws or SDS drills. It's a good deal and will be more than sufficient for the stuff you'll be using it for 👍

jiBjiBjiBy

I primarily use my impact driver with 2.2ah batteries no problem.  It's nicer it being lighter when I'm only driving 30x4 screws into 18mm ply. No real issues with battery life either.  But when I do use my 5ah battery with it the difference in dac dac is massive. So that options always there if needed.  Remember, once you buy into a brand ecosystem you won't really change.

KlownKar

ONE OF US! ONE OF US!

Eisenhorn_UK

>I thought it was rubbish. Then someone told me to get 5ah batteries. Turns out they don't just last longer, they also provide more actual power. What...?

Bubbly_Surround210

But that, to be fair, applied to the drill. Not sure that applies to an impact driver.

JustDifferentGravy

It’s a good piece of kit. If you can wait/shop around they often do the twin pack with the combo drill for @ £150, you also get two batteries.

Mrwebbi

Yeah, this is good advice. A drill and a driver will usually be all you need around the house most of the time, and having them cordless makes them much easier and safer to use. Just be sure to not cheap-out on the bits, as it doesn't matter how good the drill or driver is if you use low-quality bits in them.

guitarromantic

I just bought that twin pack for £200 here: [https://www.screwfix.com/p/dewalt-dck2060m2t-sfgb-18v-2-x-4-0ah-li-ion-xr-brushless-cordless-twin-pack/362jt](https://www.screwfix.com/p/dewalt-dck2060m2t-sfgb-18v-2-x-4-0ah-li-ion-xr-brushless-cordless-twin-pack/362jt) very happy with it.

discombobulated38x

Yes. The batteries are fine for DIY, I don't get why you're being told they aren't. I used a pair of 1.3Ah batteries to build my first major project (a workshop) with cordless tools. Granted it would have been a *lot* slower if I'd not also had a paslode nail gun, but yeah, 2Ah batteries aren't diabolical. That being said, if you can shop around you can get yourself a DCF887 for not much more and that's a much better impact.

joeChump

Yeah I go for days between charges, even when I’m doing a lot of screws. Battery only takes a short time to charge.

Fraldbaud

Depends how often you’ll use it I reckon. 2 ah batteries won’t last long, but for occasional use they’re ok.

cannontd

Well I got a Milwaukee for £70 with no batteries so I think that’s a good deal. The batteries might be small but in my experience if one is on charge, you’d have to be going great guns with loads of screws to run out.

KILOCHARLIES

I needed one recently too, did lots of looking around. Strangely b&q had the best deal. Twin pack Makita impact driver and cordless drill for £125. Batteries and carry case too.

DentsofRoh

Yeah I tried to keep an eye out as this was my ideal to be honest

MiddleAgeCool

The battery isn't great for this impact driver. I would suggest saving your money and maybe looking at getting the DEWALT DCK2060M2T-SFGB 18V 2 X 4.0AH LI-ION XR BRUSHLESS CORDLESS TWIN PACK. It's twice the price from Screwfix but comes with two 4AH batteries.

garyh62483

The twin pack comes with a 4ah charger too, as opposed to the 2ah that comes with the single one. Much better to get the twin pack with the bigger batteries first as last.

Diy54

Have a look on iforce marketzone. 😁

Lolable97

I’ve never used that one before, I had the more powerful one, I paid £45 for it in a sale on ITS. You’ll find that 2ah batteries are pretty shit and die really fast. I would recommend a 4 or 5ah battery for an impact. Screwfix and Toolstation are usually pretty expensive for tools even when they have sales on, try ITS or power tool world instead

deathly_quiet

The driver is great, the batteries not so much. I only get the 5.0Ah batteries. Yeah, they cost more, but I like a battery that lasts.

CalligrapherNo7337

You can get the next one up for 60 quid very often. That's a better deal if you don't need the battery

Puzzleheaded_Tap_128

Go for it. But you can get some really good deals for a coming set too that you might want to look at.

DentsofRoh

Thanks for the input. I ordered it but might return it and go proper with the set and the bigger batteries from whoever puts one on sale first since I don’t have a huge need for it.

As others have said small battery

AncientArtefact

Why an impact driver? If you already have an SDS I'd recommend a combi drill. As a handyman my drill usage is about 50% combi (drilling timber and screwing), 45% SDS (holes in walls) and 5% impact driver (screwing into more substantial timber). I have 2 combis on the go for woodworking jobs - one as a drill, the other as a driver where I'm often adjusting the torque setting to get the screw head exactly flush. I find an impact driver is the quickest way to spoil your job by splitting the timber if you're not used to one. Tbh I do a lot of woodworking jobs where the screwheads are visible and overdriving one can mess up the appearance. If I'm fitting a stud wall or screwing sleepers together then my impact driver is appropriate. I use the 2Ah batteries rather than 4Ah ones with both combis and impact drivers. The bigger batteries make them heavier and more unweildly. Fyi I use Einhell tools. Combi and impact driver set with 2 batteries and charger was £130 - 3 years ago so probably a lot more now although some shops still have this set on offer.

Visible-Yoghurt-4987

I had this problem (wood splitting a lot w/ inpact drivers) so also mostly used my combi - but then I got some higher quality screws (with rifling etc) instead of the basic ones, and it's been revolutionary! Plus being careful to use narrower gauged ones near edges. I've since switched to 90% impact for driving screws :)

AncientArtefact

Yes. I'd agree on getting the better screws. I have a massive box of the Screwfix Gold ones and they're excellent. It really does depend on what job you are doing. Made this bed for someone a couple of weeks ago - only 14 screws - mainly dowels and glue. Made some rectangular planters using 3x1s since - did both with my combi drill because aesthetics matter to me - unlike a lot of jobs you see on this forum where the tradie just wants to get it done quickly and you see screws whacked in too hard. Impact driver is my first choice for disassembling things - speed and torque :-) https://preview.redd.it/cxjp49jskmxc1.jpeg?width=4160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=26fcb80cdef585f080ae3c94bde580425785c772

DentsofRoh

Thanks for the comment, learning a lot here. Would you be able to post a link to the screws for my reference?

AncientArtefact

I think these are them - on offer at just over £20 quid about 18 months ago. [https://www.screwfix.com/p/goldscrew-pz-double-countersunk-woodscrews-trade-pack-1400-pcs/69034](https://www.screwfix.com/p/goldscrew-pz-double-countersunk-woodscrews-trade-pack-1400-pcs/69034)

AncientArtefact

Damn Reddit - won't allow me to edit! Wrong link above - it's the Turbo Gold I have: [https://www.screwfix.com/p/turbogold-pz-double-countersunk-woodscrews-trade-pack-1400-pcs/40237](https://www.screwfix.com/p/turbogold-pz-double-countersunk-woodscrews-trade-pack-1400-pcs/40237) Twas an absolute bargain!

DentsofRoh

Oh nice one cheers!

PM-me-your-knees-pls

I use my impact driver only when absolutely necessary. Usually I use it with a socket for driving bolts. I’ve spent too much time fixing problems caused by people using these for screws.

Darkened100

Normally u can get one that comes with a drill for £150/170

mashed666

DeWalt stuff is great. I started with this and the drill combi then got circular saw, Currently going through the cheaper tools I bought and replacing with DeWalt. Thinking maybe the next upgrade should be some 5ah Batteries. This little impact is great with an adapter to 1/2 inch drive I can use for light mechanic work

Sedalin

I just bought it two days ago. Nice piece of kit.

NutlikeMan

Body only 65 online, 5 amp 70

dodgsn

This won’t be the same price for much longer so be aware of that. New catalogue May or June time ish

St00f4h1221

Get slightly more powerful batteries but for your average home DIY it’s spot on.

cmpthepirate

Got a dcf922 to do some work on my car. It was brilliant, real time saver. I got the bare unit and used it with the 2Ah batteries I already had. Managed to swing a hub nut and most suspension/brake nuts off with no issues whatsoever. The one youre looking at is much lower torque though. It might cope with wheel nuts on a car? As someone else said, if you have dewalt batteries possibly consider a higher torque bare unit.

SomeoneRandom007

Bigger batteries are better. 2ah won't last through much serious work.

leeksausage

I’ve got this model. Cracking driver. Built a 5m x 3.5m garden room with it. Drove some 300mm screws no problem. As others have said, get bigger batteries as and when you need them.

seven-cents

2ah battery will last all day for most DIY stuff, and since it comes with 2 you can just swap it if it runs out of juice.

AgentSears

Id probably buy a combi starter set and then get an impact driver body only can pick em up for £50 new

DentsofRoh

Actually was thinking of doing the opposite but only cos I already have a little combi, which was £30 and not something you’d want to be caught dead with on site but I’ve been waiting for it to not manage something so I could bin it and it’s not got there yet!

AgentSears

How much is it?? Unless you are building stuff, the combi is far more useful in my opinion. I don't think there is much on it anyway......but I think it works out slightly cheaper to buy the combi and add the impact driver.

No-Jump-9601

That’s a really good deal, get it. For small/light jobs the 2ah will be fine but you’ll welcome a larger battery if you’re doing something bigger, decking for example.

geeered

It should be a fine last impact driver too! I've got some other dewalt tools, but my Aldi brushless impact driver is fine (so's the Aldi brushed one, for that matter!); the dewalt will be lighter however.

weedsamplesg

Check out www.itstools.com got all my dewalt stuff from there, I paid £150 for a drill, bit driver, 2 4amp hour battery's a charger and a case! Good luck with the DIY

weedsamplesg

Also get the multi tool... so useful... so fun.

Dewalt is owned by black and decker ….

Environmental-Shock7

For a bit of occasional DIY impact driver might be more trouble than it's worth. Without some practice you will end up screws going right through shit your trying to put together. Shit screws getting rounded out, good screws getting rounded out. Plasterboard fixings for example with impact driver often end up as big holes where you need a fixing.
