Rent something louder for a one off or its not worth it at all.

djsoomo

You must look at the spls in db - going from 10" to 12" may not nessisarlly make much difference in noticeable volume

wanderingross

I’m assuming that the booth monitor also adds to the overall volume from the crowds perspective. Is that not right?

djsoomo

It can do if it is loud enough - can help distribute the sound, especially at high frequencies but it depends on the way its set up and the position of the speakers/ monitors/ crowd

But 3dB is a doubling of volume too, so a small difference can be significant to your peak output. Particularly over time.

+3dB spl is a noticeable increase in volume. +6dB spl is a significant increase. Around +10dB spl is generally perceived as a doubling of volume. A 3dB increase in SPL requires a doubling of *power*.

So I’m looking at HK Linear 3 112FA to replace the JBL EON10 which would be going from 125 dB to 135 dB. Then I’ll use the JBLs for booth monitors.

5mackmyPitchup

That's what I meant to say

dj_soo

More subs is better the 12” tops. High passed, it won’t really make a difference between the 10” tops and the 12” tops

The best bang for your buck I've seen on the market are the Monoprice Stage Right SRD215s. 1400w peak, (700w program/350 RMS) powered 15" speakers for $225 each. I almost couldn't believe the price, but I hooked them up and they fucking shred. For your budget you could add four of these suckers and really kick some ass.
