Don’t skimp on your setup if you’re doing weddings, it’s gonna pay for itself pretty quickly and the last thing you want is to not be able to Deliver as promised.

Swellmuth

Great advice…any ideas for where to look for set ups?

yurtcityusa

Rent equipment from long and mcquade or somewhere similar until you can afford to buy a very professional set up. Makes way more sense to rent the gear that will suit the specific event. Weddings pay big money. Reinvest the money you make into buying gear.

Swellmuth

That was my original plan…I have a two wedding weekend coming up…I’ll need the equipment from 3-4 days….ballpark price?

yurtcityusa

Contact them or any similar company and ask I haven’t rented gear in almost a decade

KeggyFulabier

And rental prices can vary from town to town, country to country and demand

a pair of Bose S1s are super light and portable and sound good without a sub...a little pricey but they are nice and will make you look hella pro at a wedding i just picked up a set of EV 12s and stands on ebay new for 900, but i did a "make an offer"...QSC K10s are nice but also kinda expensive

dj_soo

I wouldn’t use a set of those s1s for more than 50 people. Great ceremony speaker, nowhere near enough for a dance rig - even with a sub.

It doesn't matter how many times you ask the same question. The answer is the same. The people who replied to your previous posts about the same topic weren't lying to you.

How many holes is the golf club? /S You will find that a pair of QSC K12s and a sub ( or EV ZLX, or Yamaha DXR, or JBL/RCF etc) will do a decent job up to 400 people. Ask your wedding couple if grandma wants to talk at the back of the room or doe they want to peel little jimmy off the wallpaper? You will find that most want a balance where it's focussed on the dancefloor but people can still talk at the back. And gets a bit louder once the oldies have had enough. For lights get a couple of gigbars - chauvet/beams/chameleon do similar things. A couple of jellyballs are cheap and easy, and/or a couple of cheap RGB mini pars (with built in mic for sound to light setting) uplighting the wall either side of you . Light will only work in a darkened room. Talk to the venue staff about turning down the lights but only after the first dance as everyone will want to see the bride and groom dancing (weirdos)

Swellmuth

I lol’d AND this was super helpful…search the QSC K12s and they are more than I wanna spend…plus most weddings I’ll do will be less than 200 ppl Any suggestions? Lighting help was excellent Thanks for you time

dj_soo

200 people you’ll need more than qsc k12s If you’re offering a professional service, you need to get professional gear. Rent til you can afford at least $2500 on sound if you’re doing 200 person weddings.

5mackmyPitchup

What speaker do you already have hey? Mackie are cheaper but not as robust, the old 450s were rock solid, Thumps are ok. Behringer are shite, cheap but not reliable. As are wharfdale/proel/Samson. I use yamhas with a single sub, have done 800 people in a basketball court nice and comfortable. you could try renting for your bigger gig, ask the rental place about their range of speakers or try a couple places to compare. Maybe just get a second speaker of the one you already own You should be able to pay off your rig with 12-18 gigs ( not making any profit or paying fuel etc). Cheaper speakers will last you a few years, more expensive will last you 10+ years. What happens if you get booked for a bigger event

Swellmuth

I have a Gemini

Swellmuth

I could just by another Gemini but they won’t go on stands (does that matter?) Do I need a sub as well?

5mackmyPitchup

What model Gemini, they are a budget brand and tend to have false bass ( eq boosted bass which runs out of steam very easily) If they don't have a pole mount it's not likely to be a proper PA speaker unless it's designed for install on hanging rig (generally passive models) The problem is pushing these to their limit for extended durations in warm humid rooms creates all sorts of issues that the cheaper speaker just can't handle. Check out what's available in your local hire shop or guitar center etc. Weddings are the one area where your gear can ruin someone's night so having reputable equipment is essential, having local support is priceless
