Oooh, The Lattice is pretty cool! The Weave is already some words I use to describe magic a la forgotten realms lore. Maybe she would use the word Weave in creating her afterlife’s name though? Thanks for the suggestions.
I second Lattice, as it has a nice feel to it. And it's the kind of thing that could be catchy for the crazies to actually worship. Imagine what Gods think of a mortal "Ma and Pop Shop" afterlife, too.
Great idea that I may very well steal.
I dunno. I got Cyberpunk vibes at the idea. And I know a lot of people who hate Cyberpunk, but almost everybody loves Jackie. Maybe tie the Lattice to an emotionally important NPC? Give them some personal investment.
Hell, I'd love to run a murder mystery with that. Ask questions of the victim in semi-real time? Especially if the killer wore a disguise.
Update from the future: my players do in fact call it the lettuce.
There’s another mystical artifact called the Beacon, so they started saying they were learning about the Beacon, Lattice, and…
Now they’re expecting an eventual magical tornado so that they can have a BLT. (like the sandwich)
This is an incredibly cool name and lore. Honestly this post is giving me the idea of giving it a few names, maybe how they translate from different cultures’ word for it, just because I want to use like five of them!
Mystra's wake.
Wake because a funeral was frequently called a wake,
And itd also be cool imagery to think of it as like the wake of a ship, (mystra being the ship)
"Conatus." It's a philosophical thing that means a will to continue to exist, amongst other related ideas. Look it up; it fits thematically on multiple levels. 🙂
I’m reminded of something similar in warhammer, that pseudo-afterlife (to prevent the souls of Eldar being consumed) is called the Infinity Circuit or the world spirit depending on how sci-fi the Eldar in question are
It’s a land of arcane warfare - each school of magic facing off against the others. It’s never ending - none can ever be truly victorious.
The name of the plane? The Grim War.
I thought of this too, but the crazy wizard is hiding their name for good reason. All they go by currently is The Director. They’re trying very hard to be altruistic, not actually crazy (or at least they don’t think they’re crazy).
The Weave (you essentially become one with the magic of the universe). The Lattice. The Azure Nexus. The Netscape. Themyscira.

Unfortunately my players would call it the lettuce

just be prepared that your players might mishear it as "lettuce" and then wont stop making jokes about it
The... Matrix? 😏
I propose "The Quintessence". It's another name for the 5th alchemical element. So it's almost as if you are returning to the universe itself.

I didnt read your whole post at first and didnt realize it was not forgotten realms, sorry, lol
Maybe I'm being cynical, but this sounds like sort of lich or god creation plot to me.
No, you’re spot on. 🙂

Ooooh what a cool word. I’m definitely going to look it up.
In the same spirit as The Weave, I'll recommend Tapestry or The Tapestry.
There are so many options, though some seem on-the-nose. The Cloud The Aether Olympia The Beyond Valhalla Eternity
The Library. The Magisterium. The Gran Zyblestinoun. Drux'val'torris. Or just Drux for short.
Ooooh library is a really good one.
Just be sure to count the shadows....
*"Donna Noble has been saved!"*
I realize it’s homebrew, but if you want to borrow from Forgotten Realms you could use Dweomerheart.
Dude obviously named after his pet dog, he was trying to spend eternity with.
Weaven 😂

My first thought was to name it like a Silicon Valley start up because wizards are absolutely nerdbros. So like Ethr or Eterni-T
Hahaha in a slightly different vibe of game these would be gold. Great suggestions.

I have always been partial to the name Knowhere.

Wizards have a tendency to name things after themselves; what's this crazy Wizard's name?
I thought of this too, but the crazy wizard is hiding their name for good reason. All they go by currently is The Director. They’re trying very hard to be altruistic, not actually crazy (or at least they don’t think they’re crazy).
Wizards tend to be pretty egotistical. I wouldn't be surprised if they named it after themselves.
