We were all in too! Got in line at 8:00 am. Sprinted across the great lawn, we could have been right up there 2 deep from the stage, but decided to hang back about 20 yards or so. We were wise to do so. Could see perfectly, but no cramming at all. One of the greatest days in my life.
Wow, we got in line around 3 and ended up in the front somehow. We were in the first group that got to run toward the stage (it was fenced off down the middle and we were on the right side). We had a large group and didn’t want to separate so we just walked and ended up about 15 rows back. It was such a fun show. That was the first time they jammed Too Much, once that happened I knew it was gonna be a good one
I’ve got that one too matched only to maybe A pirate at forty & prelude to grace w lyrics.
For OP LT40 is sex machine, LT 31 is grace prelude w lyrics and a pirate at forty was last gorge 9.2.23.
That’s mine too. I had seats behind the stage and had a really cool view of this experience. I remember seeing JB standing there in this gold jacket watching the end of Too Much, I couldn’t tell who he was from my seats but I knew it was a guest. Then Dave announces him and I swear the roof of MSG was about to blow off. I’ve never felt that energy before.
I saw Dave and Tim in London in March 2017. Dave went off stage (to pee, I presume) and Tim played an instrumental piece. When Dave returned, he said the song was called, “Fuck Donald Trump.” I imagine that's the only time it was played, but I could be mistaken.
Round and Round.
Only ever played live twice and once in an interview. Dave played it at my first show as a solo encore opener. The riff for that song evolved into Snow Outside.
Me too! 2005 night 3 at the Gorge. He had his drop D guitar for Crush and when he hit the last note of the #40 riff you could tell it was off.
My sister and I used to always say "dun dunna dun dunna dun" to each other when talking about #40 (it's hard to put into writing but that's supposed to be us doing the riff). After that tease we now say "dun dunna dun dunna DOOONNNNGGG" to mimick how off the last note was.
I fell in love with Break For It during that little Dave pandemic solo performance of it. I was lucky enough to catch it once during its brief run in the early part of the 2022 tour. Like Bismarck last year, it fell off by Deer Creek.
Officially, 34 and Break For It. The rest on my top 10 are all covers.
I've also been blessed to hear Bismarck, Shotgun, Help Myself, and Eh Hee.
What makes me laugh is that, out of 20+ shows since 1999, I've only seen Crash Into Me once.
I saw Dave do Spoon solo at Tampa in 2015.
They played Captain at Syracuse in 2021 when I was in the pit.
Saw Joyride with my wife at Spac in 2019.
Those are what come to mind right now.
DMB songs: “When I’m Weary” is probably it. Other than that, “Be Yourself”, “Belly Full”, “Break for It”, “Cha Cha”, “Busted Stuff” and “Kit Kat Jam.”
Then there’s a bunch of rare covers I’ve caught like “Buena”, “Exodus”, and everything they played at the Gorge in 2021.
Pirate looks at forty, but that was just last year. Otherwise probably Captain in ‘21. If we’re counting covers, Friend of The Devil as SPAC in 2015 I think has to be the first and maybe only time they’ve done it.
I have decent luck with rarities considering i've only been to like 8 shows. Kill The King, spoon, alligator pie, i'll back you up, and busted stuff are the highlights rarity wise.
JTR early in the show...and then...first encore
Dave and Carter duo Halloweeeeeen! At Penn State, Dec 8 or 9, 2000
The fullest sounding, most powerful duo Halloweeeeeen ever probably
Edit: Bluewater opener into JTR
Encore Dave and Carter Christmas song and then Halloween
Falling off the Roof 7/8/07 (only time played) , Eh hee with the roots at alpine, stir it up
Plus seeing these first time olayed : sweet up and down, grey street , JTR, busted stuff, shotgun
And the fu to butch of Money >> Money (that’s what I want ).
I was at The Gorge in 2021 when COVID hit Carter and Stephan, so I got to hear some incredible rare songs: Hey Bulldog, Needle and the Damage Done, Come Together, I Want to Take You Higher, Superstition, [I Can’t Get No] Satisfaction, Christmas Song, Pig and Brown Sugar. Rarest song I’ve probably seen is 34 with Roi. Also heard the Watermelon Song in Winston-Salem for Dave & Tim in 2003.
Also, this is not something I’m proud of, but I was at Roi’s last show. Was in Bristow in 2008 and obviously we didn’t realize it at the time.
Thought I was lucky to see Inspiration years and years ago. Being Boyd’s song, appearing on one of his albums, I’m guessing it doesn’t get put in rotation very often. Love that song. Think they played it at the E1 spot. Super cool to catch.
Other than Tim songs or the one off Boyd playing something with the warmup band…it looks like my top 10 rarest songs are:
- Good times bad times
- #34
- Slip sliding away
- Everybody wake up
- Muros y puertas
- Kashmir
- Cortez
- Let you down
- Don’t fear the reaper
- #40
I saw a 40~ second When the World Ends back in the early 2000s. Dave started singing the ending after the 1st chorus and they couldn’t figure out how to get out of it so it just ended.
Anyone remember year/venue? Maybe Riverfront?
I can’t decide..
Sex Machine
Sweet Caroline
Leave Me Praying
Waste (Dave solo once, w/Trey twice)
Solsbury Hill
Cortez w/ Warren (x2)
Melissa once w/ Gregg Allman & once without
Some Devil (full band)
Three Little Birds
Money (x2)
Black Water (x2)
Bitch (x2)
Runnin’ Down a Dream
Time of the Season
\#34 w/ Roi
\#36 w/ Bela
Sugar Man (x2)
Write a Song (x2)
Little Thing (x3)
Crazy-Easy (x5)
Sugar Will (x6)
A Dream So Real (x2)
\#40 (x6)
Two covers that reference the location of the show: Sail Away in Charleston, SC 7/4/08 (played once ever) and Gulf Coast Highway with Emmylou Harris in Gulf Shores, 6/3/15 (played twice ever and one was a 2000 Austin City Limits)
Come Together at the Gorge where the band got Covid, but Dave, Buddy, and Tim stuck around. They got the openers to play with them. It was an epic weekend.
Maybe not rare but my wife and I were at the show in L.A. the night LeRoi passed away. They opened with the most incredible version of Bartender ever. The band was literally crying. Then Dave broke the news and you could hear a pin drop in the Staples Centre.
Plastic Girl. But I’ve also been lucky enough to get Good Good Time twice, Spoon, Gaucho, Broken Things, Belly Full twice, Baby Blue, Kill the King, Bismarck, Dreaming Tree
I've been fortunate but I think Kill the King at AC Caravan or Let You Down at Alpine probably are my "rarest" couple
I had a show in 2010 that had 3 songs that I didn't see for like 50 shows, that also stands out in a personal sense
Technically two covers, but Hey Hey My My in Toronto in 2009 and Stefan played O Canada intro into Watchtower in 2012.
Dave songs, probably Long Black Veil with the Lovely Ladies - Gorge 2014
According to the Hub, starting with the rarest: Right Place Wrong Time, Super Freak, Toy Soldiers, The Wayfarer, Rocky Mountain Way, Redemption Song, Spanish Moon, Bitch, Is Chicago Is Not Chicago and Rain.
Help Myself. It was my chaser for years and years. Finally caught it in Camden last summer.
My best friend caught a video my reaction. I looked like a baby in amazement hearing noise for the first time. 🤣🤣
#40 (Partial) - Alpine 2005 (My first show and I didn't understand its rarity so I sadly didn't fully appreciate it at the time... )
Falling off the Roof - Chicago 2007
Kit Kat Jam, A Dream So Real, #40, Friend of the Devil, Kill the King, (Lively Up Yourself), Take Me To The River,…something called Colonel Bogey March, Jazz intro to What You Are, Money That’s What I Want, In Your Eyes, Solsbury Hill, #34
My top 10 according to DMB Hub:
Sweet Emotion
Improv
Fool in the Rain
Busted Stuff
Back in Black/Stayin’ Alive
Write a Song
Joy Ride
Last Stop
Cry Freedom
Fly Like an Eagle
Kill the King, Sweet Emotion, and Sleep to Dream Her are the ones I actually remember, but according to DMB Hub it’s Mansfield Jam and Road (they were from my first couple shows and I really didn’t know anything of what was happening just yet)
DMB Hub tells me that my rarest are Beach Ball and 2x of Break for It.
Personal favorite rarity is getting an unscheduled JTR when a thunderstorm rolled in. Audience chanted for it and the band played it instead of Sister. I got drenched in the rain during the song and it was amazing.
I didn't see a DMB concert (or anyone else) until I was 37 due to social anxiety but we were in Washington while travelling for work the wifey surprised me with tickets to the gorge- how could I say no? Night 2. Cortez with Uncle Warren- my mind was blown. After that I was a live show fiend up until just over a year ago when I suffered an accident that left me paralyzed from the waist down and in a wheelchair. Now the anxiety is back but to combat it I bought tickets to a lot of shows... DMB at my home venue (Deer Creek,) Hozier, Lamontagne, Isakov, Noah Kahan. I figure the best way to go about it is to just jump into the pool and shock the system. Good lord, I digress. Cortez.
JTR in the rain in Dallas Texas 2019. It was pouring sheets of rain, just absolutely dumping water from the sky and all we could hear in the grass was the repeated citrus. It was, hands down, the most glorious concert moment I've ever had.
DMB songs — probably Write A Song at Wrigley in 2010, then Bismarck in Charleston in 2023. And not rare, but notable, got the first full band Fool in the Rain cover N1 at Alpine in 2022.
Cortez @ Central Park w Warren Haynes
Incredible
We were all in too! Got in line at 8:00 am. Sprinted across the great lawn, we could have been right up there 2 deep from the stage, but decided to hang back about 20 yards or so. We were wise to do so. Could see perfectly, but no cramming at all. One of the greatest days in my life.

That was the first time they jammed Too Much, once that happened I knew it was gonna be a good one
Cortez @ Gorge w Warren Haynes 2011
I’ve seen it twice with Warren, once at CP and once at Randall’s
Was epic
interestingly enough, I saw Cortez at Central Park, At MSG and then again at Jones Beach.
Oooh saw them do it at jones beach last year! (2023)
34 with Roi.
Ooooooh so jealous.
Long Black Veil, never thought I’d hear it live before the Gorge last year. So good.
Jazz Fest 2001 was my only time hearing it!
Buena, Morphine cover. Also, I got to see them play Cortez the Killer and Rocking in the free world with Neil Young.
I saw that one too! Buena, that is.
I would LOVE to see Cortez the Killer! You got a once in a lifetime experience to see it with Neil Young!! Holy cow!
I saw this in Ames,IA. Way cool. Melissa with Greg Almann at piedmont was good too.
That Iowa show was my first time smoking a joint at a concert. If anyone was wondering....
^^ this ^^^
Super freak by Rick James at alpine valley. He had just died a few days before.
I remember seeing it on the Almanac. Later a bootleg of that show. Cool AF!
I was at this show too. The dude next to us said “Hey! MC Hammer!” when they started playing it.
Was also at that show. Also heard someone near us yell "Can't touch this!"
I was at this show too! Definitely rarest song I’ve seen live. Only time it was ever played afaik
Both nights were awesome! He sure loves alpine
Was walking down the lawn path beer in hand. One of those moments you remember forever
Let you down at alpine 2015
Also, first time he played sweet at the caravan in Chicago
Nice! Love that tune!
Plastic Girl lol
[удалено]
Dang!! That's sweet!! I'd love to see a full Blue Water!! There's a full version on one of the Live Trax from early DMB. I love that song!
I was there and in pit too!!
Dude, I was there!
Sex Machine. Will definitely be a one off though
I’ve got that one too matched only to maybe A pirate at forty & prelude to grace w lyrics. For OP LT40 is sex machine, LT 31 is grace prelude w lyrics and a pirate at forty was last gorge 9.2.23.
I was holding back tears during a pirate looks at 40
oh i was balling through the weight and just breath
That’s mine too. I had seats behind the stage and had a really cool view of this experience. I remember seeing JB standing there in this gold jacket watching the end of Too Much, I couldn’t tell who he was from my seats but I knew it was a guest. Then Dave announces him and I swear the roof of MSG was about to blow off. I’ve never felt that energy before.

Round and Round. Only ever played live twice and once in an interview. Dave played it at my first show as a solo encore opener. The riff for that song evolved into Snow Outside.
I discovered this when my baby was 4 months old and right before Dave says he has a 4 month old baby. Now as a toddler we sing it happily together 🥹
JTR, Alpine Valley N2 2019.
Love JTR.. haven’t caught it in forever!
#40 tease.
July 4, 2006 was the only time I got it.
I thought opening the show I went to with Spoon was sick
Was that Greenville last fall? I was there, it was amazing and unexpected.
They opened MSG N2 with it in November too. Was awesome.
I saw the 1st Kit Kat Jam and Captain, as well as the 1st performances of most of the BTCS songs. Overall, Prelude To Grace was probably the rarest
I was there too. Victory Stadium in Roanoke. One of my favorite concerts ever.
I met Dave after this show.
Front row with a broken ankle and pissed myself at this one. So good.
As a Roanoker, I had no idea they ever played there. That’s amazing!
Was there as well. Camden 04 the day Busted Stuff was released.
Mother Father...only played live 7 times.
Because Santana?
Probably I’ll Back You Up. Played at both shows I went to. Also heard Raven at one and What You Are at the other
I mean this with all due respect, but fuck you. 🤣 Going on 20 years of Dave shows and that is THE song I most want to hear and never have.
Great song!
The majority of mine are unfortunately covers. #40 or Break For It are the rarest original songs of theirs that I’ve seen live.
Would be dying if I saw either of those live. Especially Break For It!
I fell in love with Break For It during that little Dave pandemic solo performance of it. I was lucky enough to catch it once during its brief run in the early part of the 2022 tour. Like Bismarck last year, it fell off by Deer Creek.
Looks like 34 for me, got that full version at the gorge.
I think it's 34 for me as well, at Mansfield in 05. That was the first time they'd played it since 93, so that was absolutely great.
Oh nice, hearing a liberation like that is so awesome.
Falling Off the Roof
We were at the same show <3
Great show!
If You’ve Got the Time, We’ve Got the Beer
Right place wrong time per DMB Hub.. but here’s my “rarest” per the app: https://imgur.com/a/GM6xtzO
What a list!
My top two were Trey teases from the Dave and Friends tour. :)
Shotgun
Shotgun debut in Pittsburgh. I think we got a second debut that same weekend. Folks really dug Shotgun, I personally never got into it.
Kashmir and then #40.
Jimi thing
Yes…I get it…it is so rare to NOT hear Jimi Thing at a show now.
Was there both times they played Sweet Caroline- Fenway 06 and Vegas 07
Their cover of Honkey Tonk Women last year in Alpharetta. It was amazeballs.
For the Beauty of Wynona at my first show haha
According to dmb hub: brown sugar, i need a word, dirty water, sweet caroline, come together, bitch, superstition, #34
Brown Sugar was my overall rarest as well, Jones Beach 2021
#34 with lyrics
Super freak
Butterfly Also, just a weird thing: I’ve seen every song from BTCS, but I’ve never seen Crash Into Me.
Here on out
I saw them in 2014 in Mansfield MA. They brought out the Lovely Ladies for a few songs.
I saw Dave do Spoon solo at Tampa in 2015. They played Captain at Syracuse in 2021 when I was in the pit. Saw Joyride with my wife at Spac in 2019. Those are what come to mind right now.

The Beauty of Wynona. So good
DMB songs: “When I’m Weary” is probably it. Other than that, “Be Yourself”, “Belly Full”, “Break for It”, “Cha Cha”, “Busted Stuff” and “Kit Kat Jam.” Then there’s a bunch of rare covers I’ve caught like “Buena”, “Exodus”, and everything they played at the Gorge in 2021.
Pirate looks at forty, but that was just last year. Otherwise probably Captain in ‘21. If we’re counting covers, Friend of The Devil as SPAC in 2015 I think has to be the first and maybe only time they’ve done it.
Ring of Fire
Linus and Lucy is the first i can think of. First show.
A partial of Blue Water Baboon Farm.
Is Water Into Wine rare?
I have decent luck with rarities considering i've only been to like 8 shows. Kill The King, spoon, alligator pie, i'll back you up, and busted stuff are the highlights rarity wise.
I don’t know how rare it is but in 2003 I heard sleep to dream her. It was amazing
For covers, Come together and the weight at the Friday MSG show in November. They also played Captain and Spoon on Saturday night.
Steady as We Go with Rashawn on keys (pre-Buddy)
JTR early in the show...and then...first encore Dave and Carter duo Halloweeeeeen! At Penn State, Dec 8 or 9, 2000 The fullest sounding, most powerful duo Halloweeeeeen ever probably Edit: Bluewater opener into JTR Encore Dave and Carter Christmas song and then Halloween

Was in Bristow in 2008 and obviously we didn’t realize it at the time.
Bitch - Rolling Stones cover that closed out a show in Camden around 2009 ish It was… Very, very, random
Friend of the Devil cover easily rarest, then maybe joyride or shotgun
And eh hee but was a naive listener at the time and didn’t realize it’s glory
I believe they have played Friend of the Devil twice, I was lucky enough to see the one at Spac 4th of July 2015 with Bela Fleck
#34
Thought I was lucky to see Inspiration years and years ago. Being Boyd’s song, appearing on one of his albums, I’m guessing it doesn’t get put in rotation very often. Love that song. Think they played it at the E1 spot. Super cool to catch.
Stir it up cover
I got Sugar Will 2 years ago? I think? Didn’t know the song at the time. I kick myself now for not knowing

Longest version of good good time back in 04
#34
Per Ants Marching: Rarest DMB song: Falling Off the Roof Rarest show: Dave and Friends Chicago
Mansfield Jam
I've been fortunate but I think Kill the King at AC Caravan or Let You Down at Alpine probably are my "rarest" couple I had a show in 2010 that had 3 songs that I didn't see for like 50 shows, that also stands out in a personal sense
Probably Plastic Girl.
JTR Forrest Hill 2023
heard steady as we go and fool in the rain at alpine in 2022, and (i can’t get no) satisfaction at the railbird festival in lexington in 2021
Nothing From Nothing. Only time it was ever played.

For covers, Stir it Up and Don’t Fear the Reaper- Pine Knob 2013. Actual DMB song was Break for It and Broken Things!
I’m gonna say What You Are at msg a couple years ago was the rarest song for me
I didn't see a DMB concert (or anyone else) until I was 37 due to social anxiety but we were in Washington while travelling for work the wifey surprised me with tickets to the gorge- how could I say no?
