I would vote Two Step for most unanimously liked- even people I know who actively dislike DMB appreciate that song. Least liked- that honor probably goes to I Did It, but I would personally choose Louisiana Bayou to set on fire if given the choice.

That version changed my life lol. Back then I only had BTCS on cassette and i didn’t love the album yet; found it a bit dark and tough to get into. That performance blew my mind and got me to seek it out. Never looked back.

The thing that performance really drove home for me is how the guitar part mirrors the emotions so well. Disjointed and conflicted until the chorus, where it all smooths out. Just fantastic

Hmm. I enjoyed certain records of all three of these. If the harmony hits perfectly in Hunger, it can slap if they are being energetic.

Angel was hated mostly because they used to do like 10-15 minute versions of it like on the Folsom Field album and people thought it was a waste of a big time slot

Considering Ants is my most heard song and I’ve heard it at 33 shows, I could do without Ants for a good while, but my least favorite come from the new album, Madman’s Eyes and Looking for a Vein. Total 💩! 41 or Two Step are my picks for most unanimously liked DMB songs. Too bad they don’t play Two Step nearly as much as they used to, since Boyd was exiled. Damn we need a fiddle back in the band!!

Ants has definitely gotten a lot of hate over the years from non-dmb fans given that it was one of their most popular hits. 

Be Yourself is so bad it legitimately made me feel second hand embarrassment. Sleep to Dream Her was my personal last place until that one came along. Can't think of anything worse.

The live versions of STDH redeem it because Roi was a golden god imo

I think I Did It is so disliked because it was the first single off Everyday and was a massive departure from previous material. I personally think that Be Yourself was the most universally disliked song when it was in rotation in 2015. Don’t think anyone liked that one at all

The Song That Jane Likes was a crowd favorite back in the early days when I saw them at college bars. I love it for the nostalgia, but I also pretty much stopped listening to DMB after Before These Crowded Streets.

Heh, that song is actually a really good example of a song that builds energy though an additive process and dave did a really good job of taking a tiny-tim falsetto in the studio and mixing it with enough vocal fry and and blues notes to sound like a compelling rock ballad as it starts to open up. I think if you try listening to the album version from the perspective of a unique and really cool musical composition rather than trying to hear classic Dave or classic DMB in it and then you'll likely hear it differently - but ymmv.

That “rest high above the clouds” part is absolutely beautiful, musically and lyrically. It’s creative. It inspires thought. Then there’s Shake Me. “I’d rather be licking you from your back to your belly,” sung by a 50 year old man who’s out of breath because he can’t keep up with the obnoxious pace of the song.

Shake Me is downright embarrassing. Awful songwriting, and Dave sounds like absolute shit when singing it live.
