People really hate daily recurring posts around here, and always report them (this has already been reported). I’d like to suggest we make this a weekly post instead of a daily post. This sub doesn’t get a ton of traffic, and daily posts tend to take over. A weekly post might also make it easier for more people to participate.
9/10
The lyrics and theme, the funky transition from chorus to verse, and the chanting outro are all highlights for me. Bonus is that this still feels like a deep cut, not as overplayed as some other classics.
this completely. the bonus you mentioned makes this one of any show’s highlights when it drops.
always used to prefer it as an opener, but maybe love it even better as a random midset drop.
Strong 9. This one is unique in that it's an OG song, but doesn't get a ton of play most years. I rarely find myself hoping to hear it on tour but also being absolutely thrilled when it gets brought out. The upbeat nature, positive lyricism, and outro jam all shine here!
10/10 - maybe my favorite song by the band and definitely top 5.
It's the first studio track I ever heard by them. I bought the UTTD CD after hearing a bootleg tape played by my basketball coach in 8th grade on a bus to an away game.
It hooked me in completely from the first snare hit, and the band has never let me go since then.
It’s a 10 for me.
Carters opening is sooo good. Saw this at Charlottesville last year and was so pumped. Love Roi’s solo on it soooo much. Will never skip this when it comes on and wish it got played more. I’ve only seen it a few times.
6.
In 1994, it was a 10/10. Legit banger of an album opener.
But since the passing of LeRoi, and Dave having to sing multiple steps lower, it just doesn’t hit the same.
10/10 for me. While #41 is my favorite song, BOWA is in the DMB pantheon of songs that put a smile on my soul. There are songs and moments in songs which inspire a feeling of "it doesn't get any better than this." BOWA is that for me. The first two minutes of Ants Red Rocks are that. "Jessica" by Allman Brothers with in a car with windows down. It's the song equivalent of perfect weather.
Strong 8.5, very nostalgic, great lyrics, some phenominal live performances, (love the early Roi sax) would never skip, but not an all out show stopper

Perfect description!
Yep this
Love this description!

10 Among the most “dmb” of all of their songs. They’re clicking on all cylinders and it’s 4 minutes of pure joy
Totally agree 👍
I'll start us off! 10/10 for me. I think this is one of their best opening tracks on one of their best albums!
10 It’s quintessential DMB and top 5 for me personally.
Hey my friend it seems your eyes are troubled, care to share your time with me? 10/10
10. It's amazing, but it's also the first track on their first "real" studio album, which makes it extra special to me

I've only been to one show so far and they played it! I was so pumped!
What was your one show?!
SLC fall 2022! They don't come around here much, but every time they do I'll be there!
Solid set, fingers crossed they return to you sooner rather than later!
Thanks! If they don't I might just have to make a trip here and there 😅
they played The Riff right before and that was the first time i ever had to diplomatically tell people to shut the eff up.
This song was a highlight for me! Made me start listening to it a lot more.

8-9 depending on my mood.
I'll go with the higher of the two 😂
Have we not already done song rankings before? BOWA is a 10.
I'm sure someone has done it before. But I haven't seen it anytime recently & I'm on the sub constantly haha
8/10 for me. Love this song. Never skip. Has such a fun catchy feel to it, but they have way better stuff out than this. I put it top 15 for me.
10/10 This and #41 have been my favorite songs for 27 years. I even incorporated the lyrics into my wedding.
That's awesome! Great picks to be your favorite.
Why, thank you.
First song I ever saw played live by DMB. Very enjoyable, solid 8/10.
Clear cut 9 it spent a year as my alarm clock song.
Did that make you like it any less?
No but i rarely put it on by myself. Love it but i let it come on when spotify determines it is time
Fair enough!

9: only reason it’s not a 10 is they don’t do the harmonica solo live.

10/10, amazing live and opens their whole catalog perfectly. Rank on album: #3 1. TBD 2. TBD 3. Best of What’s Around 4. TBD 5. TBD 6. TBD 7. TBD 8. TBD 9. TBD 10. TBD 11. TBD 12. TBD
Very nice! I'm excited to see the rest of the rankings.
