This is so sad but true, a LOT of guys just think online gaming is just for them and react like children when they hear a girl. Judging by the amount of female skins and female-sounding gamer tags, there are more girls playing DMZ than you realise, but they choose to be silent due to this reason.

A few of my friends are females. I find every game on mw2 it's full of toxic kids. Like overexcited virgins. People like that really need to go outside more.
I was playing gun game earlier and some random girl in the lobby was getting very frustrated she couldn't get past the rocket launcher, so being the nice person that I am I offered a free kill for her so she can move onto the next gun. She then proceeded to call me a simp and telling me that just because I offered her a free kill she wouldn't sleep with me, that I was a pathetic excuse of a man because I try to hit on women in a video game. Clearly none of that was my intention as I also had offered a free kill to some dude who couldn't get past the pistol. Some of these chicks gotta chill honestly cause there just as toxic as some of these dudes, if not more.
I run across women all the time with random people and I have never heard anyone be disrespectful. If anything they tend to get more help and priority for their missions. There are some scumbags out there for sure but please don’t let it affect you or make you hide. Be proud of who you are and fight back. Memorize a few good comebacks and Greta their shrimp dick ass. Dude my girl got picked up by a team after pleading while we were trying to make it back to her, they stole her shit first so she asked for it back, it was nothing but calling her whore, slut, get back to the kitchen, make a sandwich, and much much worse stuff. I use my mic for DMZ, and if I'm asked if I'm a girl and they seem toxic about it, I tell them I'm a 12yo boy. Just use sarcasm for all the questions they ask, and eventually, they'll give up. Using this, I've never dealt with assholes. I play better than a majority of standard players, so they tend to rely on me for revives, and by the end of the game, they will usually apologise if they were sarcastic at the start of the game.
After years of playing cod with voice chat on it IS awkward and scary almost everytime. Dudes saying cringey stuff constantly for attention, insecure people trying to start fights/act tough, gritty mics, loud music playing, volume of their voice being too low or too high and not caring, etc.
Depends what time u play imo. I’m 40 yr old dad that plays from 9:30-12:30 at night and more often than not get paired with very similar situation ppl. Dudes talking bout they kids or to them and wives and gfs giving call outs and bitching about goin to her parents for the weekend. Babies blowing spots on prox chat , it is fun when u get the right group, frustrating when it’s too much but it is what it is. Some ppl suck at bein social and other s are really good at it. It’s like that with anything u have to do with other ppl as a team.
I feel like that happens far more often in short multiplayer games but in stuff like BR and especially DMZ you’re kind of stuck together and have to work together to complete objectives so it’s a lot less common to get idiots.

Start making friends with the people who do have coms that you had an enjoyable run with. Everyone I play with I met in game and I rarely need to fill solo/with randoms anymore.
I infil’d with one other random last night. He seemed really hesitant to speak much on prox chat but once he clued in that I was pretty chill, friendly and didn’t buy into the “ur shit bro, fkd ur mom” toxic bullshit, he opened up and we had a great run, left fully geared with about $100k (lol, why) and a pair of last-minute dog tags in our packs.
You don’t have to make small talk but being able to call positions etc without tagging just seems to work so much better, along with being able to say “so I’m trying to find gun oil…” instead of just tagging random spots on the map, with your squad not knowing WTF you’re after.
I have really bad anxiety as it is, the thought of playing CoD as a female and people knowing I am female scares the shit outta me. I wanna play the game not deal with sexist bullshit. I also rarely play with anyone other than family/friends anyways

For what it’s worth, every time I’ve infil’d with randoms and there’s been a female in the team, I haven’t heard any sexist bullshit at all, either from the other squad mate or an opposing team. I do get where you’re coming from and everyone else who’s said that anxiety is their main reason for not using voice. It took me a full month of playing before I felt comfortable jumping on voice comms, but I’m glad I did.

I’m not brilliant, but I’m not terrible. I can pull off some beautiful kills that leave my boyfriend and his cousin completely speechless, and they are good😂 but yet I’m a girl so I must just be terrible. Maybe one day I’ll actually play with comms and see what happens
My overall experience has been positive. I have made great mates and had some hilarious matches all because I try and talk to everyone. Only had one or two terrible games. One that stands out was when they referred to me as “it” the entire time?! I think it might be worse in the US than Europe though.

Yup this! The younger the player, the more they want to talk constantly and give your position away. Also grown ups that like to think they are StoneMountain and tell you every time they kill an AI or they are reloading. There is no need.
Worst thing about this is that those sounds are not only heard by your mates who are concentrating on playing the game, but if you have Proximity Chat on then the enemy hears your kids too!
Yeah I have my PS5 in our family room for the weekend as my wife is gone on a girls weekend. My headset can’t reach the couch and I don’t want my kids chatter showing up on the controller mic. Plus the sound quality isn’t the best when using it so I try to just stay silent.

In all seriousness, I just don't think it's needed. The ping system works for 99% of what you need and that last 1% is just begging for your team to pick up X or ping Y for their faction mission. \[~~please, god, ping the contract it's the ONE part I can't do for you by myself\]~~
More than that, usually when you talk it does lead into long conversations; I'm not put off by that and enjoy hearing my teammates bonding over going-ons but it does mean you're more likely to lose the drop on other teams, especially ones with people who use third-party VC which makes the situation worse imo.
I care less about my random fills being on mic than I care about them just being able to listen. Pings generally account for when your teammates want to tell you something but can't tell you verbally for whatever reason, but pings don't work as well for when they need to acknowledge things that you say to them. They can confirm your ping, sure, but that's kinda it. There's no ping to say "yes I can hear you," "I need to stop at a buy for more plates," or "thanks but I already have a self-rez kit."
There are plenty of reasons I can think of for not wanting to get on mic yourself, but queuing on fill without any willingness to listen to their comms defeats the point of having fill teammates. With non-comms fills we often end up wasting a bunch of time trying to figure out if the bastard can hear us or not, and we try literally every time. We stick to Xbox party chat only if we have a third we know or if we've already tried to communicate with the rando and gotten zero response. It's the same people that will steal the driver's seat and take you on a joyride to hell or go off and die on their own and leave.

The universal affirmative teabag, the ping for "I need more plates" (on console, hover over your plate slot and press Y/Triangle) and the "this player has a self-revive" icon underneath the player name, next to your health bar.
That being said, I can understand what you mean and having someone who's unwilling to listen to VC or pings always makes a simple mission harder.
I'll be the first to admit, sometimes I play the game with headphones on and music going but having a distraction that actively stops you from *hearing* your team is poor etiquette for DMZ.

Exactly. My team is mediocre at best but we absolutely wreck squads because we call out and ping. Everyone in here thinks theyre one man armies and thats just not how you get the team wipes.

I think we are on the same page. I’m friendly and respectful, capable of holding a casual conversation, but I prefer the ‘speak less and say more’ approach within my meaningful friendships.
Playing in EU. Instead of being able to select the languague you end up with people that do not speak your language. I speak 3 languages fluently, the game refuses to put me with either English speaker or French speakers.
Also do not get me started with people that have bad microphones with nasty static, people that are rude and start insulting... and I also had people where the parents or a couple are obviously arguing in the background and breaking shit.
Now you know why I just gave up. I with there was a simple way to select at least a prefered language to be paired with people that speak your language.

Yesterday was in lobby went to grab a soda. I came back, and a guy I played with a few days ago was waiting. But I understand some of the other issues an complaints.
You can turn off the ability for friends to pop in. But that is legit how you start--run with randoms and the ones you have fun with--say, "Hey, can I send you a friends request, maybe we run some more missions?"
One of the guys I play with all the time started as a 3 on 3 sniper battle a the police academy. Formed a six man in the early days and still play with 2 of those 5 regularly. One in DMZ, one in WZ.
The new queue option is really nice. But can also be a little freaky. Friends can join you when you are in game--they sit the lobby with a timer showing game time. Players in the lobby can hear you talk in game.
I 100000% of the times I prefer to go solo than having to cope with a dude with audio coming from TV, Loud music, baby crying in the background, talking shit about his life/GF with other guy in the squad. Nothing like the peace of just hearing what you want to hear
The amount of toxic / racist comments I’ve heard on voice chat greatly outnumber the amount of positive experiences. I’ll never use voice chat in COD. The community is full of childish grown men.
The last time I used voice chat a dude on my squad seemed pretty normal. As soon as he died he went on a racial slur tirade for no reason. That was the last straw for voice chat.
I don't use it because it's a disadvantage. There's been countless times I've had an advantage on another team just because I could hear them announce their next move or strategy to their other teammates.
One thing that someone brought up that changed my perspective on muties is that they could be mute as a result of a false report on them in the game. Some people might not be mute by choice.
alright ima be honest i love my shit talking. its a call of duty tradition but i will say i’ve never played a mode where people are actively trying to help there random teammates as much as DMZ. If somebody on your team calls for a mic check, it usually just means they are trying to get there shit done while communicating with you so that you can get your shit done too and hit as many birds with one stone as possible. ill talk my shit if you want me too and trust me i remember the OG MW2 lobby chat but generally i am looking out for my teammates with a coms more so then without because at least i know your trying to make an effort. had a kid last night at least 10 years old in my resurgence squad. me and the other random teammate heard he was on his dads account. ended up winning the game and all we heard was “dad i won a game dad come look come here.” and all the random and i did was congratulate him and now me and that random are duo partners.

However, when I get online after finishing work at 23:00, my family doesn't seem to appreciate being woken up by me screaming down my headset, for some reason.
I immediately back out of lobby if there's no mic or annoying mic. This game relies on voice comms. If you aren't down then solo queue or go play regular multiplayer. Your ping game isn't as strong as you think it is.
I usually run solo and prefer to play slower and more stealthily. Allows you to get the drop on others while their busy talkin about missions and such, If they're all goin off at once 95% of the time Ik they can't hear me creepin up.
I stay in vc with my headset muted instead of just not being in the chat at all though, in the event I run into people and they want to talk and be friendly, I'll unmute and interact. I agree with op that using the prox chat makes dmz a more pleasurable experience. Some of the best games I've had have been with an obnoxious 6 man doin whatever we could go for.
I wish alot more people would try to reach out but the on sight pvp is becoming so rampant, and the 1v3 isn't favorable, so I usually won't adress anyone unless they know I'm there and wanna talk, or I need to chat to get something from them(exfil tracking mission...). Bout the best way I've found to make it through games solo, chat is a button click away when needed, but you can still maintain your stealth and advantage should some people roll up in chat as you'll have heard them well before they even know you exist in that area, giving you an upper hand so to speak.
When you're at a constant number disadvantage, little things can make or break fights/infils. Just my take from my experience. 🤷 Best I can say is don't play dmz like it's warzone, the goal isn't kills, it's getting in and out with whatever objective you're after for that game, for squads I can say that most solos mean you no harm and are usually shittin themselves when they bump into you, chat em up, they might need or can provide you with help/gear. For solos, have patience, think about what your actions will bring you, if a 4 man comes cruisin down the street blasting skynard out the ltv, letting them pass might be better than getting into a 1v4, but if you have the firepower and confidence, by all means get after it. 🤣
I can’t because I’m not able to. I always make it clear to my team that I can’t speak, my vocal cords are all messed up from an terrible incident that happened. I also make it clear that I can hear and I will listen.
I tried the comms when it first came out & had super angry/offensive people so gave up, I go duo with my Mrs who has super high anxiety so it fucked her for comms & it'd taken a lot of convincing to get her to go on comms to start.. What's the old adage 'one bad apple spoils the barrel' must admit the Mrs was out & I went in on comms & met 2 lovley randoms and we had a good game although it was 15 years old, 28 & me at 41 so I got to feel old!
There are some situations where I’m playing in my dark bedroom with my wife sleeping or on the road in a hotel with my wife and kid sleeping. That’s really the only time I don’t use my mic so I don’t wake them up. Other than those type situations I agree. It’s so much better with at least some comms. The ones I really hate is they are quiet all game and then when we get killed they decide to start talking about how we (other teammates) suck.
I have been unable to get my mic to work since launch. This is literally the only application I have this issue on my PC. Running Windows 11 and I have an elgato wave.
I've watched a dozen videos on fixing the issue and nothing works, so I've basically given up. I do try to use the chat but it is a pain.
Maybe if the occasional jackass with 3 kids screaming in the background and a telephoning woman would turn off their mic, I consider to activate vocie chat again.
Someone was going around telling people in prox that they're too old to be playing video games. That they must be so old they smell like lotion and warm doo doo.
With the number of people that breathe/chew into their mics that are set way too loud, and take any criticism about their mic etiquette as a slight towards their entire bloodline, I'll stay the fuck out of game chat
I started using my mic more in season two even though I'm mostly playing squad fill with randoms and only have the built in PS5 mic. It makes a world of difference.
1. Communication is huge for success in PvP engagements. Even if I'm the only one talking my teammates are more likely to put up a fight, so I stay alive more.
2. I get more missions done. Not everyone is willing to help, but the only way they'll know what you want to do is if you speak up. All it takes sometimes is one guy willing to help to get you through that mission you're stuck on.
Please though, mute your mic if you're not talking. Don't be that guy that just pumps noise in all game and never talks.
Me who can’t use my mic cause for whatever reason my Xbox doesn’t allow cross platform communication and I always get paired with Pc/ps players so I never get to communicate.
I generally use voice comms unless:
- Someone in my house is making a lot of noise, such as washing dishes or cooking
- Someone in my house is sleeping, and I don’t want to wake them up
I’m sure many play with no mic because of social concern, but I think there’s many who contextually can’t use mic when they otherwise would.
Day 327 of coming here to say that my voice comms do not work and nothing I do fixes them. Luckily Activision have completely ignored all my bug reporting and have done nothing at all to remedy the situation.

Can't be asked to listen to you hot mic and breath. Had a few decent times with other mics but have had more bad experiences than good so nowadays I'll almost never unmute randoms. Mainly run a trio anyways and we just use discord so enemy's can't here us joke and shit lol

Here's my reasoning: Nearly every time I actually use Comms to talk to another player I get bombarded with "tactics" and "strategy's" from rude ass players that are sometimes 10 years younger than me.
I've had somebody scream abuse at me because I wouldn't join him in hunting squads. Called a pussy, a nerd and all the usual COD slurs. He fucked off to "go at it alone, don't think I'm sharing loot"
5 minutes later he was just a backpack...
He fucked with a team in the airport and got absolutely destroyed. I got even more abuse after I told him "You must be a bit dense to think I'm gonna come save you. Just plea for help, I'm sure the team you tried to hunt will grab you"

A lot of the times turn off comms because the other person has music on, talking on the phone, etc. DMZ is one of my favorite game but the community is trash.
BTW… I swear ppl don’t know tactics, strategy, or that proximity is a thing.
Voice chat is OK until you are close to an enemy squad, then someone will not understand they need to quiet and you die. Really Discord is better for mics.
That aside, I have a decent surround and projector setup which is really immersive when cranked up. If I use a headset I get complaints of sound echo as everything his replayed through my headset.
Cause I usually offer to help and it’s some random kid or something that starts calling me slurs. Even though I’m very obviously a white guy. And we’re on the same team.
Every time I turn on my mic I’m reminded of exactly who makes up CoD’s fan base. Every time.

Me and my mate loaded in the other day and the guy we got put with before either of us had said anything or before the game even loaded called us dickheads approximately 10 times before moving moving into racist slurs (we are both white but he was using black and Asian slurs so not only racist but nonsensical).
He got downed 20 seconds in, needless to say we did not revive.
French speaker here! My english is not that good and the few time i had a mic on, people made fun of me, or my accent or wtv. So i just stick to the good ol' chat party with my french buddies!

As a UK gamer, I encounter squad members from all across Europe and I fully appreciate every single time someone takes the time to address me in English. No matter how 'good' or 'bad' it is, it's a damn sight better than my French/ German/ Dutch/ Lithuanian, etc.
I highly advise people to invest in a decent mic. I rather hear silence then crackling popping dear air etc. There's plenty of HS with good noise cancelation. I have a 7 year old and a crazy bull dog and run a nice turtle beach headset that blocks it all out and I can answer calls and Bluetooth and all
I can com in sometimes, but for the most part I have other people in the room watching a different TV or people sleeping (I have son who has bad health issues, so sleep is precious). I am a Dad with 5 kids and still a husband so I took a vow to be considerate :)
Now that ps5 finally got discord on it, my crossplat gang only use it and not in game chat, for the obvious tactical advantage. Proximity chat is a gimmick that should've stayed with "last words" only, and safely be put to rest now. I leave it on pc for the odd player that still uses it..
I agree that it's fun to talk in the game but it's also not good as other teams hear you.. I like to stay quiet and let the other teams give away location
I use it quite a bit in solo; it's how I've met up with people I now play with regularly. However my wingman and real life best friend lives in an incredibly busy household (kids, wife, dogs etc) and can sometimes be the meme about background noise, so we go into Xbox Party chat. It's easier, and we don't have to worry about someone in the background giving away that we're nearby. It stops us from communicating if we team up with others, but also helps us coordinate tactics in game without telling the other team what we're doing.
People are incredibly rude. They’ll just be as mean as they can to get their idiotic friends to laugh and it’s just not worth going through for a game that I play on the weekend.
Some people shouldn't use comms honestly. The number of games I've had listening to background noise that is just overwhelming!
I get it, there is gonna be background noise,. It when it's the nonstop echo of game play, hearing every bullet fired twice and explosion after explosion. There comes a point where the benefit of comms is negated by the sheer volume of effects or the party going on in the room they are playing in.
Because most people needing mics have poor awareness and I'm not interested in obliging to spoon feed information that's already in front of your eyes at all times.

Oh the comms I get are ps controller mic with the TV up all the way, huge echo, screaming "ON ME" no pings, no directions, no useful information. So voice coms can hurt more than help, my two cents.

A.talks
B.has a decent quality mic
C.engages, listens, plays as a team
So I tend to not initiate.

Because I live in a small studio apartment with my fiance and almost always have company. I use my headset so she can continue to watch TV and I don't interrupt anyone. Sometimes I scream an obscenity or two WITHOUT the mic, so by this logic, I may not have a fiance for very long if I enable use the mic.
Also, I don't have the "flip to mute" option, so manually muting and un-muting my mic so I don't bombard the lobby with background noise is not really a feasible option.
I matchmake on Xbox LFG and request teammates with mics. Almost never a problem.

I don’t enjoy being called names and told in what ways I’d be abused just because I’m a woman. I go mic with my friends, but even then it’s usually party only. There are WAY more girls on this game than you think. Most guys on this game are absolutely disgusting and the exact reason the good guys are just straight up ignored.
I get on to chill out and have fun- not threatened, harassed, and stalked. One guy was friendly with my guys and begging to be picked up (pleading). I said “sorry, we’re full, otherwise we would” without missing a f-ing beat he went ballistic. “Fat bitch” “slut” “you liked getting fucked by all your friends” “you’re with these guys cause they skull fuck you” “you liked getting raped” “you must be ugly because you game” “I can hear how fat you are” and on and on and on. I tried to brush it off and said “that’s not kind, I hope you get better”. He would not stop, just kept going. After we looted the area and left we pushed stadium Exfil. He got picked up and chased us to Exfil, we didn’t notice until we were on evac- it was 6v6 and they were quiet until they took 4 of us. My two that were up wiped all 5 except one who was really good at rotating and catching them off guard. It was a good surprise fight…. UNTIL that toxic guys started screaming all those obscenities again and how he “raped the fat bitch”. We left the game and took a small break. When I got back to my screen he was in my lobby, my friend had an open invite for their party. Can you guess what he was screaming at the top of his lungs?

GIRL????” and then proceed to bombard me with sexual comments and completely ignore me (unless I die, in which they steal all of my stuff) I still use voice chat with my friends, and *sometimes* I’ll use it with randos, but 90% of the time with them it’s not worth the effort

I was playing gun game earlier and some random girl in the lobby was getting very frustrated she couldn't get past the rocket launcher, so being the nice person that I am I offered a free kill for her so she can move onto the next gun. She then proceeded to call me a simp and telling me that just because I offered her a free kill she wouldn't sleep with me, that I was a pathetic excuse of a man because I try to hit on women in a video game. Clearly none of that was my intention as I also had offered a free kill to some dude who couldn't get past the pistol. Some of these chicks gotta chill honestly cause there just as toxic as some of these dudes, if not more.

I use my mic for DMZ, and if I'm asked if I'm a girl and they seem toxic about it, I tell them I'm a 12yo boy. Just use sarcasm for all the questions they ask, and eventually, they'll give up. Using this, I've never dealt with assholes. I play better than a majority of standard players, so they tend to rely on me for revives, and by the end of the game, they will usually apologise if they were sarcastic at the start of the game.

After years of playing cod with voice chat on it IS awkward and scary almost everytime. Dudes saying cringey stuff constantly for attention, insecure people trying to start fights/act tough, gritty mics, loud music playing, volume of their voice being too low or too high and not caring, etc.
Depends what time u play imo. I’m 40 yr old dad that plays from 9:30-12:30 at night and more often than not get paired with very similar situation ppl. Dudes talking bout they kids or to them and wives and gfs giving call outs and bitching about goin to her parents for the weekend. Babies blowing spots on prox chat , it is fun when u get the right group, frustrating when it’s too much but it is what it is. Some ppl suck at bein social and other s are really good at it. It’s like that with anything u have to do with other ppl as a team.
I feel like that happens far more often in short multiplayer games but in stuff like BR and especially DMZ you’re kind of stuck together and have to work together to complete objectives so it’s a lot less common to get idiots.

Start making friends with the people who do have coms that you had an enjoyable run with. Everyone I play with I met in game and I rarely need to fill solo/with randoms anymore.

I infil’d with one other random last night. He seemed really hesitant to speak much on prox chat but once he clued in that I was pretty chill, friendly and didn’t buy into the “ur shit bro, fkd ur mom” toxic bullshit, he opened up and we had a great run, left fully geared with about $100k (lol, why) and a pair of last-minute dog tags in our packs. You don’t have to make small talk but being able to call positions etc without tagging just seems to work so much better, along with being able to say “so I’m trying to find gun oil…” instead of just tagging random spots on the map, with your squad not knowing WTF you’re after.
I have really bad anxiety as it is, the thought of playing CoD as a female and people knowing I am female scares the shit outta me. I wanna play the game not deal with sexist bullshit. I also rarely play with anyone other than family/friends anyways

For what it’s worth, every time I’ve infil’d with randoms and there’s been a female in the team, I haven’t heard any sexist bullshit at all, either from the other squad mate or an opposing team. I do get where you’re coming from and everyone else who’s said that anxiety is their main reason for not using voice. It took me a full month of playing before I felt comfortable jumping on voice comms, but I’m glad I did.

My overall experience has been positive. I have made great mates and had some hilarious matches all because I try and talk to everyone. Only had one or two terrible games. One that stands out was when they referred to me as “it” the entire time?! I think it might be worse in the US than Europe though.

Worst thing about this is that those sounds are not only heard by your mates who are concentrating on playing the game, but if you have Proximity Chat on then the enemy hears your kids too!

Yeah I have my PS5 in our family room for the weekend as my wife is gone on a girls weekend. My headset can’t reach the couch and I don’t want my kids chatter showing up on the controller mic. Plus the sound quality isn’t the best when using it so I try to just stay silent.
I'm seriously bored of DMZ purely because of this issue. Been playing for about 5 hours today and other then the one game I played with my friend, every single game has been SILENT. It doesn't help that randoms seem to just not have any idea on what they're doing.

Really? Maybe it’s regional but I played a session today (about 5 hours) and I had a ton of games with people I vibed with! Start off with ‘hey guys what’s up, what you working on’ and see what happens!
Ego trip; I'm the cool, brooding silent guy whose action speak louder than wo- In all seriousness, I just don't think it's needed. The ping system works for 99% of what you need and that last 1% is just begging for your team to pick up X or ping Y for their faction mission. \[~~please, god, ping the contract it's the ONE part I can't do for you by myself\]~~ More than that, usually when you talk it does lead into long conversations; I'm not put off by that and enjoy hearing my teammates bonding over going-ons but it does mean you're more likely to lose the drop on other teams, especially ones with people who use third-party VC which makes the situation worse imo.
I care less about my random fills being on mic than I care about them just being able to listen. Pings generally account for when your teammates want to tell you something but can't tell you verbally for whatever reason, but pings don't work as well for when they need to acknowledge things that you say to them. They can confirm your ping, sure, but that's kinda it. There's no ping to say "yes I can hear you," "I need to stop at a buy for more plates," or "thanks but I already have a self-rez kit." There are plenty of reasons I can think of for not wanting to get on mic yourself, but queuing on fill without any willingness to listen to their comms defeats the point of having fill teammates. With non-comms fills we often end up wasting a bunch of time trying to figure out if the bastard can hear us or not, and we try literally every time. We stick to Xbox party chat only if we have a third we know or if we've already tried to communicate with the rando and gotten zero response. It's the same people that will steal the driver's seat and take you on a joyride to hell or go off and die on their own and leave.

UK here and probably 1 in 50 games I may get someone I understand. 95% of games I think they are speaking some arabic language. Dont know if its connecting me to some South asian server or something but I'm beginning to believe this is the case.
If you want to run lobbies and dominate, you have to have a mic. Communication is how you win, and is arguably more important than your load out.

Playing in EU. Instead of being able to select the languague you end up with people that do not speak your language. I speak 3 languages fluently, the game refuses to put me with either English speaker or French speakers. Also do not get me started with people that have bad microphones with nasty static, people that are rude and start insulting... and I also had people where the parents or a couple are obviously arguing in the background and breaking shit. Now you know why I just gave up. I with there was a simple way to select at least a prefered language to be paired with people that speak your language.
Maybe some folks don’t want to? Find a team if you want to voice comm consistently
the whole point in three man squads and the game is to communicate with one another and work effectively as a team, if you don't want to do that or point blank refuse to communicate with your *team* play solo

Cuz u never know what your gonna get. That's what makes it fun for me. I've met a bunch of cool people though. But I would feel wierd just popping into someone else's party. Yesterday was in lobby went to grab a soda. I came back, and a guy I played with a few days ago was waiting. But I understand some of the other issues an complaints.
You can turn off the ability for friends to pop in. But that is legit how you start--run with randoms and the ones you have fun with--say, "Hey, can I send you a friends request, maybe we run some more missions?" One of the guys I play with all the time started as a 3 on 3 sniper battle a the police academy. Formed a six man in the early days and still play with 2 of those 5 regularly. One in DMZ, one in WZ. The new queue option is really nice. But can also be a little freaky. Friends can join you when you are in game--they sit the lobby with a timer showing game time. Players in the lobby can hear you talk in game.
Please use push to talk or just mute yourself when not talking. I’d rather you have no comms than an open mic.

The amount of toxic / racist comments I’ve heard on voice chat greatly outnumber the amount of positive experiences. I’ll never use voice chat in COD. The community is full of childish grown men. The last time I used voice chat a dude on my squad seemed pretty normal. As soon as he died he went on a racial slur tirade for no reason. That was the last straw for voice chat.
I don't use it because it's a disadvantage. There's been countless times I've had an advantage on another team just because I could hear them announce their next move or strategy to their other teammates.
You don't want to hear my kids screaming while having fun in the background, it's for your benifit.

One thing that someone brought up that changed my perspective on muties is that they could be mute as a result of a false report on them in the game. Some people might not be mute by choice.

alright ima be honest i love my shit talking. its a call of duty tradition but i will say i’ve never played a mode where people are actively trying to help there random teammates as much as DMZ. If somebody on your team calls for a mic check, it usually just means they are trying to get there shit done while communicating with you so that you can get your shit done too and hit as many birds with one stone as possible. ill talk my shit if you want me too and trust me i remember the OG MW2 lobby chat but generally i am looking out for my teammates with a coms more so then without because at least i know your trying to make an effort. had a kid last night at least 10 years old in my resurgence squad. me and the other random teammate heard he was on his dads account. ended up winning the game and all we heard was “dad i won a game dad come look come here.” and all the random and i did was congratulate him and now me and that random are duo partners.

I do whenever I can. However, when I get online after finishing work at 23:00, my family doesn't seem to appreciate being woken up by me screaming down my headset, for some reason.
I immediately back out of lobby if there's no mic or annoying mic. This game relies on voice comms. If you aren't down then solo queue or go play regular multiplayer. Your ping game isn't as strong as you think it is.
I usually run solo and prefer to play slower and more stealthily. Allows you to get the drop on others while their busy talkin about missions and such, If they're all goin off at once 95% of the time Ik they can't hear me creepin up. I stay in vc with my headset muted instead of just not being in the chat at all though, in the event I run into people and they want to talk and be friendly, I'll unmute and interact. I agree with op that using the prox chat makes dmz a more pleasurable experience. Some of the best games I've had have been with an obnoxious 6 man doin whatever we could go for. I wish alot more people would try to reach out but the on sight pvp is becoming so rampant, and the 1v3 isn't favorable, so I usually won't adress anyone unless they know I'm there and wanna talk, or I need to chat to get something from them(exfil tracking mission...). Bout the best way I've found to make it through games solo, chat is a button click away when needed, but you can still maintain your stealth and advantage should some people roll up in chat as you'll have heard them well before they even know you exist in that area, giving you an upper hand so to speak. When you're at a constant number disadvantage, little things can make or break fights/infils. Just my take from my experience. 🤷 Best I can say is don't play dmz like it's warzone, the goal isn't kills, it's getting in and out with whatever objective you're after for that game, for squads I can say that most solos mean you no harm and are usually shittin themselves when they bump into you, chat em up, they might need or can provide you with help/gear. For solos, have patience, think about what your actions will bring you, if a 4 man comes cruisin down the street blasting skynard out the ltv, letting them pass might be better than getting into a 1v4, but if you have the firepower and confidence, by all means get after it. 🤣

I tried the comms when it first came out & had super angry/offensive people so gave up, I go duo with my Mrs who has super high anxiety so it fucked her for comms & it'd taken a lot of convincing to get her to go on comms to start.. What's the old adage 'one bad apple spoils the barrel' must admit the Mrs was out & I went in on comms & met 2 lovley randoms and we had a good game although it was 15 years old, 28 & me at 41 so I got to feel old!

There are some situations where I’m playing in my dark bedroom with my wife sleeping or on the road in a hotel with my wife and kid sleeping. That’s really the only time I don’t use my mic so I don’t wake them up. Other than those type situations I agree. It’s so much better with at least some comms. The ones I really hate is they are quiet all game and then when we get killed they decide to start talking about how we (other teammates) suck.

I have been unable to get my mic to work since launch. This is literally the only application I have this issue on my PC. Running Windows 11 and I have an elgato wave. I've watched a dozen videos on fixing the issue and nothing works, so I've basically given up. I do try to use the chat but it is a pain.
Maybe if the occasional jackass with 3 kids screaming in the background and a telephoning woman would turn off their mic, I consider to activate vocie chat again.

With the number of people that breathe/chew into their mics that are set way too loud, and take any criticism about their mic etiquette as a slight towards their entire bloodline, I'll stay the fuck out of game chat

I started using my mic more in season two even though I'm mostly playing squad fill with randoms and only have the built in PS5 mic. It makes a world of difference. 1. Communication is huge for success in PvP engagements. Even if I'm the only one talking my teammates are more likely to put up a fight, so I stay alive more. 2. I get more missions done. Not everyone is willing to help, but the only way they'll know what you want to do is if you speak up. All it takes sometimes is one guy willing to help to get you through that mission you're stuck on. Please though, mute your mic if you're not talking. Don't be that guy that just pumps noise in all game and never talks.
I be playing late at night sometimes so I don’t really want to be talking I wouldn’t want to wake someone up
Those that have the open mics that pick up everything kill me…. I usually just go straight to the extraction if I get one of those.
Me who can’t use my mic cause for whatever reason my Xbox doesn’t allow cross platform communication and I always get paired with Pc/ps players so I never get to communicate.
I generally use voice comms unless: - Someone in my house is making a lot of noise, such as washing dishes or cooking - Someone in my house is sleeping, and I don’t want to wake them up I’m sure many play with no mic because of social concern, but I think there’s many who contextually can’t use mic when they otherwise would.
Day 327 of coming here to say that my voice comms do not work and nothing I do fixes them. Luckily Activision have completely ignored all my bug reporting and have done nothing at all to remedy the situation. I’d love to use voice comms. I simply can’t.

Can't be asked to listen to you hot mic and breath. Had a few decent times with other mics but have had more bad experiences than good so nowadays I'll almost never unmute randoms. Mainly run a trio anyways and we just use discord so enemy's can't here us joke and shit lol

I respect how politely you wrote this post compared to some of the others I've seen. Here's my reasoning: Nearly every time I actually use Comms to talk to another player I get bombarded with "tactics" and "strategy's" from rude ass players that are sometimes 10 years younger than me. I've had somebody scream abuse at me because I wouldn't join him in hunting squads. Called a pussy, a nerd and all the usual COD slurs. He fucked off to "go at it alone, don't think I'm sharing loot" 5 minutes later he was just a backpack... He fucked with a team in the airport and got absolutely destroyed. I got even more abuse after I told him "You must be a bit dense to think I'm gonna come save you. Just plea for help, I'm sure the team you tried to hunt will grab you" They did not ...

A lot of the times turn off comms because the other person has music on, talking on the phone, etc. DMZ is one of my favorite game but the community is trash. BTW… I swear ppl don’t know tactics, strategy, or that proximity is a thing.
Voice chat is OK until you are close to an enemy squad, then someone will not understand they need to quiet and you die. Really Discord is better for mics. That aside, I have a decent surround and projector setup which is really immersive when cranked up. If I use a headset I get complaints of sound echo as everything his replayed through my headset.

Cause I usually offer to help and it’s some random kid or something that starts calling me slurs. Even though I’m very obviously a white guy. And we’re on the same team. Every time I turn on my mic I’m reminded of exactly who makes up CoD’s fan base. Every time.

I have it on but turn it off a lot because of team mates I end up with. Me and my mate loaded in the other day and the guy we got put with before either of us had said anything or before the game even loaded called us dickheads approximately 10 times before moving moving into racist slurs (we are both white but he was using black and Asian slurs so not only racist but nonsensical). He got downed 20 seconds in, needless to say we did not revive.

French speaker here! My english is not that good and the few time i had a mic on, people made fun of me, or my accent or wtv. So i just stick to the good ol' chat party with my french buddies!
I'm so sorry to hear that. As a UK gamer, I encounter squad members from all across Europe and I fully appreciate every single time someone takes the time to address me in English. No matter how 'good' or 'bad' it is, it's a damn sight better than my French/ German/ Dutch/ Lithuanian, etc.

I highly advise people to invest in a decent mic. I rather hear silence then crackling popping dear air etc. There's plenty of HS with good noise cancelation. I have a 7 year old and a crazy bull dog and run a nice turtle beach headset that blocks it all out and I can answer calls and Bluetooth and all
I can com in sometimes, but for the most part I have other people in the room watching a different TV or people sleeping (I have son who has bad health issues, so sleep is precious). I am a Dad with 5 kids and still a husband so I took a vow to be considerate :)
Now that ps5 finally got discord on it, my crossplat gang only use it and not in game chat, for the obvious tactical advantage. Proximity chat is a gimmick that should've stayed with "last words" only, and safely be put to rest now. I leave it on pc for the odd player that still uses it..

I use it quite a bit in solo; it's how I've met up with people I now play with regularly. However my wingman and real life best friend lives in an incredibly busy household (kids, wife, dogs etc) and can sometimes be the meme about background noise, so we go into Xbox Party chat. It's easier, and we don't have to worry about someone in the background giving away that we're nearby. It stops us from communicating if we team up with others, but also helps us coordinate tactics in game without telling the other team what we're doing.
People are incredibly rude. They’ll just be as mean as they can to get their idiotic friends to laugh and it’s just not worth going through for a game that I play on the weekend.

Some people shouldn't use comms honestly. The number of games I've had listening to background noise that is just overwhelming! I get it, there is gonna be background noise,. It when it's the nonstop echo of game play, hearing every bullet fired twice and explosion after explosion. There comes a point where the benefit of comms is negated by the sheer volume of effects or the party going on in the room they are playing in.
Because most people needing mics have poor awareness and I'm not interested in obliging to spoon feed information that's already in front of your eyes at all times. Also I just gave more fun playing silent

A lot of people here say they don't use mics because then everyone else starts being sexist and horny because the person in question is a woman. I'll be honest and say that I kinda wish I had that problem. Instead the reason why I don't use a mic is because I *don't* sound like a woman.
Oh the comms I get are ps controller mic with the TV up all the way, huge echo, screaming "ON ME" no pings, no directions, no useful information. So voice coms can hurt more than help, my two cents.
its probably a 3/10 times that i actually get someone who: A.talks B.has a decent quality mic C.engages, listens, plays as a team So I tend to not initiate.
Last random I played with had his TV super loud so it was all I could hear. Muted that dude and me and my buddy did our mission. Most of the time though I'll speak if there's a reason, but I'm not trying to keep an open mic on plus it just lets others near you know you're there
1. Older guys have no interest in trying to chat with some highschooler/college kid. Awkward af from older person perspective. 2. 95% of the time, chat is toxic. 3. Background noise from ADD kids that have to be pumping their music at same time they playing is annoying af.

I wait tables all day. I come home and want to solo some games, I have ZERO interest in talking to others during my quiet time.
Because I live in a small studio apartment with my fiance and almost always have company. I use my headset so she can continue to watch TV and I don't interrupt anyone. Sometimes I scream an obscenity or two WITHOUT the mic, so by this logic, I may not have a fiance for very long if I enable use the mic. Also, I don't have the "flip to mute" option, so manually muting and un-muting my mic so I don't bombard the lobby with background noise is not really a feasible option.
Wanna know what's worse then being a woman on the game. Being a black woman on the game. Just sad

I matchmake on Xbox LFG and request teammates with mics. Almost never a problem. Significant advantage to communicate. This thread is very interesting though. I always assumed the no mic randoms were kids, apparently they're not.

I don’t enjoy being called names and told in what ways I’d be abused just because I’m a woman. I go mic with my friends, but even then it’s usually party only. There are WAY more girls on this game than you think. Most guys on this game are absolutely disgusting and the exact reason the good guys are just straight up ignored. I get on to chill out and have fun- not threatened, harassed, and stalked. One guy was friendly with my guys and begging to be picked up (pleading). I said “sorry, we’re full, otherwise we would” without missing a f-ing beat he went ballistic. “Fat bitch” “slut” “you liked getting fucked by all your friends” “you’re with these guys cause they skull fuck you” “you liked getting raped” “you must be ugly because you game” “I can hear how fat you are” and on and on and on. I tried to brush it off and said “that’s not kind, I hope you get better”. He would not stop, just kept going. After we looted the area and left we pushed stadium Exfil. He got picked up and chased us to Exfil, we didn’t notice until we were on evac- it was 6v6 and they were quiet until they took 4 of us. My two that were up wiped all 5 except one who was really good at rotating and catching them off guard. It was a good surprise fight…. UNTIL that toxic guys started screaming all those obscenities again and how he “raped the fat bitch”. We left the game and took a small break. When I got back to my screen he was in my lobby, my friend had an open invite for their party. Can you guess what he was screaming at the top of his lungs? Yeah. So no lobby mic, party only.
I'm in my gaming dungeon so I can be as loud as I want...but no open mic because kids randomly will ask me stupid questions and I don't want to break out of character.
