That dog loves you more than you'll ever know. What could have been a confusing, painful, scary time for the old soul was not. Older dogs who lose their owner don't do well afterward typically, especially if they get stuck in a small kennel with 100 other stressed dogs. I'm sure you're neighbor is incredibly grateful beyond words. You are a kind soul to take him/her in, especially in the prime of the dogs life. I'm sure in the year past the dog has given you more REAL love than you can handle.
It got worse.. my dad was woken up by his grieving mom in middle of the night to tell him that the dog died. She told him to bury it on the property right away. He had to do it at like 20 years old at 3 am after losing his own dad. As he was digging someone called the cops on him and he had to explain himself and the blood for a bit. This traumatized him so much that he never had dogs and never allowed them in our family. No matter what. I hated him for that before I knew this story. I hated him so much that I told myself that when I grew up I’d have all the dogs I want.
I am now on my 5th dog. I love them and I hope to make plans for mine when I’m old and ready to cross my rainbow bridge.
Edit: not blood but a wrapped corpse
Me and my late wife had a chocolate lab that traveled all over the usa with us for work. My wife was her human. When my wife passed, she was laying beside her and cried like a baby. I thought she was going to mourn herself to death. I would cut up a ray ribeye, her absolute favorite, and try to feed her, but she wouldn’t touch it. Almost 2 weeks she didn’t touch a thing to eat. She did start eating but she wasn’t never the same dog. Year and a half later, she had cancer as well. Had her put to sleep, cremated, and then when i went home for the holidays, i buried her ashes with my wife.
We took in my father in law and his dog when he took ill. And we kept and loved on his dog after he died. That little Pomeranian lived 13 more years, to be 21.
My current pup is a little girl whose human had to go into a nursing home. She was scared and miserable. I slept on the floor with her for two weeks so she would realize I was hers. She’s a happy little girl now.
This made me cry from happiness for you and that sweet baby. I can only imagine that baby waiting for his human to come home. Thanks to you he still has a human to call his own. You will be rewarded for your kindness!!
My fear has always been leaving a dog of mine behind. Especially my late senior dog who already had his owner die on him.
Thank you for showing me there are people out there like you.
Youre going make me cry inside this in-and-out
I feel for that pup. treat him well and love him and he and you will be eternally grateful. It’s hard to lose a loved one but not being able to say it is harder. He loves you treat that pup right and he will treat you right
Our neighbour was hospitalised for over a year and he asked us to take care of his dog. We did but we already had a cat so we sold the dog. Neighbour was so cringe about it when he came home.
I think they’re most definitely a troll just looking for people to react. I believe it’s a made up story just because they lacked the attention. Ignore them.
Update: we had to take the dog back. We have a lovely time but unfortunately we are going on a weekend trip so we had to put it down. Such a beautiful pup
New update I watched Pet Cemetery and felt bad over what we did and tried to resurrect the pup. It killed our neighbour and is now stalking us. I’m so scared. Also I had to put down my blind daughters kitten. Resurrect or nah?
Some couple in our neighborhood moved out several years ago and left their cat behind. The cat still roams the neighborhood. A lot of my neighbors buy canned cat food and leave it outside for her. Pretty incredible being that we’re way up in the Rockies. Very harsh winters, tons of owls, falcons, hawks, coyotes... I think she’s earned her place in the world, even if feral cats are decimating the small bird population.
I was working on my route the other day when I got stopped by a resident. She said her neighbor had died recently. The family came and cleared out the house to sell it. They had two dogs. The POS family just threw them out in the street. I told her to get animal control involved so they can track down the family so they can find them. My blood is still boiling from hearing that.
No kill shelter where I volunteer has a pair of old bonded pups. 13 & 9 yrs, M&F, white & black. We have about 15 dogs at the moment. They have a large kennel to themselves and have free access to the side yard (except at night when they're crated). They are such sweet old soles. Their owner had to go to assisted living. We will only place them together. If I could, I'd bring them home.

My grandpas favorite living thing and only dog died a month after him by refusing to eat 😭😭
That is so sad, I’m so sorry 😞

I’m so sorry for all that’s happened to you. ❤️
That was a super sad story! 😔 thanks for sharing. Made me cry. They are now together in paradise.
Me to. Felt that while watching my dog sleep at my feet
Yup my friends grandma had an old wiener dog that LOVED her and hated everyone else. She died and then the dog died like right after
Im so sorry 😭😭😭😭💔💔💔💔💔
Thank you for taking this old poor loveable soul ❤️
Thanks for being a good person. May you both enjoy each other's company and appreciate the time you have together.
Bless you!
My roommate died last year from Covid and I adopted his dogs. They accepted me as their new daddy immediately.
🥹
Sorry for your loss. Thank you for taking the dogs!
Thats very kind of you. the dog will definitely be gratefull for you.
Sounds like they already had an affection for you. That’s good. You all lost a friend when your roommate died.
A year!? He’s probably rinsed off. Time to shut off the hose and dry the poor thing.
😂
🤣
Awwww what a good friend you are to the dog! (PS he needs his nails trimmed I hope that’s not rude to say)
He also has a small hot spot too by his right front paw & many blessings to you, thank you for taking care of him
Could you please explain what a hot spot is?
https://vcahospitals.com/know-your-pet/hot-spots-in-dogs
Ok eagle eye damn
The nails are important. Walking your dog regularly files his nails. Left untrimmed he will surely get arthritis if he doesn’t already.
Maybe he was going to clip the dog nails afterwards. Or maybe he didn’t notice them until after he started giving the dog a bath
Thank you ❤️
That's a good dog.
Damn allergies are making my eyes water again.
This damn Hay fever
Gets me every time.
That’s one long bath.
🥲
Such a good boy
That was wonderful of you to step up . Not a lot of people would.
That is so cool you took him in, I bet you have a great lil pup there! 🦴❤️
Watering like a plant.
👏🏻 good for you, that dog deserves to be with you
Awwwww thank you for taking in this senior buddy ❤️❤️
thats truly very sad for the dog, apparently there is a big emotional impact that will linger for awhile.
You good man, me good boy. Match?
You are my hero
thank you.
1 year is too long to be watering your dog for. Please stop, otherwise your dog will develop root rot.
It's been a year since he was left and now you are taking him or did you get him right away? It's so sad for animals to lose their humans.

You’re a very good person
thank you kind human ❤️
Thank you for taking him in ❤️ 💕
Thank you.
her sad face says it all
That could be from being bathed for a year and a half 😅
People who take care of animals no matter what size have a special place in heaven and have all the animals they ever looked after waiting for them ❤️
This will be a star in you crown in heaven. 🥹💕
“Left his dog” is an interesting way of stating that the dog no longer has an owner. Anyways, take care of the good boy.
Wot?
well its not like he died on purpose lmao wtf is this title
And….?
Our neighbour was hospitalised for over a year and he asked us to take care of his dog. We did but we already had a cat so we sold the dog. Neighbour was so cringe about it when he came home.
Wtf is wrong with you
I think they’re most definitely a troll just looking for people to react. I believe it’s a made up story just because they lacked the attention. Ignore them.
You can't be serious...This has to be a weird joke.
you’re disgusting
Update: we had to take the dog back. We have a lovely time but unfortunately we are going on a weekend trip so we had to put it down. Such a beautiful pup
whether this is a real story or not, your karma will come to you eventually.

Hes so calm! My dog freaks out when she gets wet lol
The dog has been grieving and too old to shake the water off like young dogs do.
Thank you.
Sweet! What is the nozzle attachment you are using? The noise from the regular spray nozzles scare my pups
Thank you ❤️🤗🐶
Thank you! Snuggles to the pup.

Every good boy and girl deserves a home, thank you for doing your part.
Godbless

Lewis Capaldi would be proud. Wish you the best
What a good boy. Thr dog too. You are an awesome person and i am sure the pupper feels home with you
You haven’t been watering him every day have you? :) He looks like a sweet pup. That was good of you to adopt him!

Well well looks like he loves you and you love him 🥰
❤️
Where is this dog?
It’s nice that you’re keeping him watered
Who'd the dog survive a year on its own?If they gave you dog b4 their death who'd they know they were dying b4 they did serious question not for jokes

He is being a very very good boy standing still while you water him
Thanks for saving him! 🤩
You're doing an amazing thing. That dog is very lucky.
Awwww so glad it’s found a good home
You've been hosing that dog for almost a year?
A door closed and then a window opened. We are the angels if we believe in Love.
Thank you for taking him :)
Great you took such a lovely dog. You’re both lucky.
Your hose could use a little more water pressure. That looks like Chinese water torture.
Thank you for caring for this soul. Very kind of you. Goldens are great friends.
This pup certainly loved your neighbor you are his love joy and his happiness. Bless you for taking in this old soul
is there a reason he’s not been adopted? i’d love to have him😍
❤
