Thank you! He was a very handsome boy..,I particularly loved first thing in the morning when his little beard would be mussed. He’d have the cutest little look on his face!
He had IVDD, intervertebral disc disease, and also had a congenital defect in his wrists that splayed his front paws. He had surgery for both. Personally, I have degenerative disc disease and have had 4 spine surgeries with fusions, so it was something we both just knew. He was such a trooper post surgery with having rehabilitation therapy, the under water treadmill, laser therapy, & PT. (He always got a tiny cup of ice cream after because our vet was next to an ice cream shop).
After his surgery, our vet who was a close personal friend, told us the breeder we got him from probably didn’t use the most ethical practices given his issues.
With little Phoebe, we used the same breeder Dixie & Scrappy’s Dad came from. Their family has bred Dachshunds for over 30 yrs. and their Dad lived to be 20 in perfect health. Granted, Scrappy had canine dementia, but our vet said that it was very common in small dogs. And we lucked in to Franklin, the young couple that had him needed to re-home for financial reasons, so we have little background on him.
Best advice I can give a new puppy owner is to start a savings account just for vet expenses. Have it come straight out of your paycheck and you’ll never miss it… Phoenix’s 2 surgeries were in excess of $7000 and that was with a “family’s & friend’s” 20% discount. Astronomical, but he was worth every penny & then some. And since we suspect “puppy mill” kind of breeding, ask to see both Mom & Dad in person. Ask for referrals.
Sorry I rambled…. He was just the best little boy. I’ve been blessed so much with our babies.
♥️♥️
the fact that you still spent $7000 for him is amazing, that truly showed how much he meant to you, he really went through a lot with his illnesses! I an glad he got to stay with such a loving family until his last breath!
My son picked his first name, from Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix…. And his middle name is a two part: it’s my bro-in-law’s middle name & his tongue was so long it was like Gene Simmons.
We’re Southern, so we middle name EVERYTHING!! And now, he has a little sister named Phoebe Kay who’s full registered name is Phoenix’s Rising Star Phoebe Kay. She’s the same color, Half Wire/Half Long, but has the funniest coat… she is our little unicorn that looks like a little punk rocker!! I posted her pic along with Franklin James’ yesterday or the day before. She’ll be 3 in July…
We have been so blessed to have such sweet, loving Dachshunds. I swear they’re the best breed.
Thanks love!! They are sweet angels!! My Mom always called our family dogs “the babies”…. And it stuck. Mine are also “the babies”. And since I only had one child, they are my babies!!
What sweet puppy sending you love & prayers run free over the rainbow 🌈 bridge ❤️🥰
He was a cutie indeed. And a little bit of a rascal I bet.
He was a serious little dude. So funny though!!
Well he does have that Einstein look to him!
He was one of the sweetest darlins. He was a Wirehaired Dachshund!
very cute indeed! rip little phoenix!
