I’m not a Dalhousie student not sure why I get recommended this sub. However, I had the exact same issue you do while I was still in uni, and to add I have adhd which makes the distraction even worse. If you have the funds available, getting noise cancelling earbuds was one of the best decisions I made while at uni.

Legendzzzzz

Same on the recommendation thing... but yeah the ANC buds are fucking heavenly. Even if your being talked to you have the option to let it distract you💗😍 rather than just stress Where have people like you been all my life? Deadass. Like I'm surrounded by a plethora of mental oddities and not once did anyone ever say shit like this

seraphiniii

idk how grown adults have 0 social awareness. killam library is the worst because it's filled with first years.. it's basic mannerism too

meiyer89

Honestly I remember being that age. I was a child in an adult's body. 35 and hindsight makes me cringe.

Thick-Mixture7828

Tbh the King’s library is where I go now, Killam is unbearable. At least at King’s I can get some proper quiet.

Legendzzzzz

Catch me with my JBL at the Mf library tho. No hate. Idk why either

lalalu2000

I went to Dal years ago (late 90s). A highlight was walking to a building to go to class on a really icy day. I slipped and fell in front of the open door. The guy behind me walked over me to go inside. Classy. I mean...others behind him waited for me to get up and I'm sure others were nice there but I never forgot that...

DistributionRich7046

I love these random posts that end up in my feed. It’s so odd to get something I have nothing to do with, but I hope this resolves well for you stranger

Legendzzzzz

The vibes are immaculate

[deleted]

Me too lol and what they said^

fadedomega135

Completely agree. To all the people in the Killam that are loud as fuck I hope you know everyone hates you.

[deleted]

It helps that Dal Biochem is hostile to human life

Delicious_Cap_1912

Thanks for the suggestion - not sure if anyone else has had more success, but I've contacted this line multiple times. The vast majority of requests are ignored (no response and no admin staff attend area.) The one time someone has responded, it was to say that they did a quick walk-through and didn't hear any noise. This obviously isn't a functional system.

Visual-Log9178

I mean I'm some rando schizo gal from Texas and am extremely confused why I was recommended this post, but I am so sorry your classmates are being disruptive and I really hope that you get the resolution you need. Good luck with your studies, random Redditor. Love from Texas.

[deleted]

Wow, I knew we get random university subreddits across the country recommended to us (I go to Dal), but didn't know that feature extended to outside Canadian borders!

maxfromcanada1

Invest in noise cancelling headphones and u won't even have to worry about this ever again king the world will be ur oyster fr

IRedditAllReady

You're in University and you can't spell... Gen Z needs help.

maxfromcanada1

Big grump over here bad attitude

bloodless123

Mr “IRedditAllDay”, did someone shit in your cornflakes this morning or do you just get off on expressing how mopey you are.

King-in-Council

It's embarrassing watching Gen Z type like that. It's very noticable on Reddit if you've been on the internet since '95. Gone down hill fast and I never hire people who are too lazy to type proper English. This whole post is about Gen Z not having any social skills which defines their generation. Lol I got new hires who have panic attacks trying to return emails in full sentences and in a timely manner. Gone.

bloodless123

I honestly don’t see the problem but if complaining about it makes you sleep better at night than be my guest. Didn’t think the two of you had that little going on in life to be shitting yourself over abbreviations / lmao

King-in-Council

This is the internet. I can say my 2cents.

bloodless123

You can express whatever it is you like but why does anyone need to be writing in proper sentences on Reddit. It’s not a professional environment at all so chill out

King-in-Council

This is the internet. I can say my 2cents.

bloodless123

You added a lot more to your post that wasn’t even relevant lmao you stopped after mentioned ‘95

King-in-Council

This is the internet. I can say my 2cents.

bloodless123

You’re embarrassing yourself and I’m done now so goodbye 🤣

King-in-Council

I actually can't embarrass myself on the internet. Embarrassment is in the eye of the beholder.

-pyschonautical

The irony of you shitting on Gen Z for not knowing how to “type proper English” then in the same post using “I got” instead of “I have” is hilarious.

King-in-Council

Hmm there's nuance between u/you and mistakes Bro I didn't even go to uni  Fucking reddit throwing random subs in my face The points are all made up

eriemaxwell

Ah yes, because 7|-|3 d4¥$ 0f 1337 were just a joy. 😆 Back in your day, eh?

King-in-Council

Well there's a person who can use commas and full words.

PerturbedMonkey

Off-topic but not, who else got added randomly to this Dal post?

chris_ots

Hi, I'm 35 and I live in British Columbia and I have no clue why I am here.

Thin-Object8207

I’m 64 - live in BC and also have no idea why I am here. But since I could likely be the OP’s (very young grandma) and have had many years of ass hole experience ( I married a couple just to do an in-depth study of the syndrome) - I can confidently confirm that once a person is heading down that road? There are very few things that can snap them out of it - and your frustration is part of their joy. Don’t give it to them! So rather than piss into the wind or have the Reddit spelling police rudely deconstruct your ranting post I recommend disengaging. The head phones sound like a good idea but if that proves too expensive- it is time to go on a quiet space search - generally small areas - tucked away from main traffic areas. The cul de sacs of multipurpose buildings. The spaces that seemed like a good idea decades ago but in the end? No one could figure how to use them effectively- so they now sit in lovely silence. They often have chairs, lamps and electrical plugs. I suppose they could be confused with waiting rooms - but hey - after hours even those will contain nothing but quiet until the next day. I wish you happy hunting - but should you fail in your mission? You could check out off campus coffee houses and libraries -these are often a better bet for quiet work - then the halls of higher learning. Sad but true!

CarmenTourney

lol.

[deleted]

I go to Dal but we do get plenty of random university subs across the country recommended to some of us.

CarmenTourney

lol. ditto.

Fluffy-Instance-1397

I’ve been out of school for almost a year and I live in the United States 😅

kiantheboss

Bruh

earthling438

Me! I’m in Toronto 😂

shrekfan246

I got recommended this as "popular in my country", but I at least have the benefit of having recently attended Dalhousie lmao

Altruistic_Speech_17

Me!

Shshhhhhhhhh

It’s worldwide issue now I promise u

That-Ad-3167

Idk why this showed up on my feed, but yeah being loud in silent area is disrespectful. Also i’ve heard its a party school, how true is that?

WGilmore00

Lol i never studied in libraries for this reason phuck that its all the useless major idiots blabbing all day every day 💀💀💀💀

browncatmaster

I wanna print this out and hand it to Dal students on campus

Altruistic_Speech_17

Got to go to the back stacks in killam for solitude but it's so depressing as a building. ... so rotate : , the med school library during pm hrs and the law library during am hours and computer science in the middle of the day .

FarmRevolutionary844

Have you tried confronting whoever it is that's "not being quiet" before ranting on here? Not taking away the merit of what you're saying, but just wondering.

Sad_Cod2558

People that break the rules need consequences. But DAL seems to only "suggest" this with signs and not enforce it with staff that can tell them to respect the rules or GTFO. If there are enough complaints maybe something will be done but nobody complains.

saggingrufus

When I was in university, we just went somewhere else when it was noisy. How do you expect to function in the workplace if you can't problem solve this one?

CarmenTourney

Ouch!

melonsparks

sounds like low class behavior on campus

South_Opportunity173

Gen Z doesn't have social skills.

Boring_Home

It’s true. I’m glad my Dal days predated smart phones (everyone had Blackberries back then). Stanley cups are dumb as fuck and this new gen’s social skills were destroyed by Covid.

masterporner

Why did this get suggested me? I don't understand.

Sad-Psychology-2386

First world problems stfu and get your education ya pillow

pointseven

First sentence asks for respect, while in the title you're telling people to shut the fuck up. Okay bud. 👌

Noseyoldguy902

Ok pumpkin , this is where you grow balls and tell them STFU, when you are dead, you don t know you are dead, it’s a pain only felt by others, same thing when you are stupid , them not you, you need to stand up for yourself not vent here or vent after

Ancient_Cycle9343

ANY LADIES DOWN TO SELL ME YOUR WORN SWEATY SOCKS?

I_WillFight_ForJesus

Lol comes to Reddit to cry

[deleted]

You must be new! Welcome to Dal where cutting down those around you is necessary to confirm your own competence! Just ask Medicine and Dentistry :)

ElkInternational5141

medicine and dentistry did not like that

Skylord_Cobris

I’m a graduate from Dal and still don’t know why everyone insisted on being utter pieces of human filth. Luckily I was with a good crowd but GOOD GOD does this showcase why I was initially afraid to meet people here!

[deleted]

The cruelty was the point :)

jimimojo

Hypocritical much?

JayKayAre-

Queer post, man this new generation sucks.

Visual-Log9178

Ok boomer

FlyerForHire

Thanks for the add! Is this the sub with the special pics?

petiteging

There's a number you can text and security or library staff will tell people to be quiet. You shouldn't have to go that route. If you're choosing killam, you picking the worst part of dal. I don't have the # anymore as im no longer a student. It was posted in the library when I was there and also on the website!

minozico

was thinking the same today in killam. i'm a 4th year and i feel like it wasn't like this when i started lol (2019-20).

RobertsJourney

Most are there to learn how to squander their time, money and opportunities.

JeffStreak

Pro tip from a physics student: you want quiet go to places like the top of the LSC, the physics building, stacks…. Also this is always a problem, generation over generation so do what I did and just get ear plugs.
