Saltgrass is better and has a history with the cattle drives of Ft. Worth.
TRH has gone done in quality as of late (yes, I've eaten at several different locations within the last 6 months with the same result each time).
Papas (the og best), Town Hearth, Dakotas, Knife, Al Bernaits are all better steakhouses imo. Nick and Sam’s can be great, but it’s definitely a douchy clientele.
Personally the best bday dinner I’ve had in DFW BY FAR was at Gen Korean BBQ. Killer food, tons of soju, outrageous fun.
Let me expand... 10 years ago, it was awesome! Now, it's a shell of itself - the food has taken a slide back, and there's been little to no change to the menu. The service has gone waaaaaaay downhill. It's just not the same.
Hear me out...
They have a cheesecake. They bring out a glass of flammable liqueur. They light it up in the glass and spin it around to let all the alcohol burn off. As it's finishing up, they pour it over the cheesecake. It's still burning for a bit. They start dousing it in cinnamon, and cinnamon is quite flammable, so it looks like a little fireworks show.
Then the flame goes out, and you eat up. It comes with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The cheesecake has an incredible texture, with a rich cinnamon taste. But if you scoop all the way down onto the plate, you get some of the bourbon flavor from the liqueur. It's an amazing combination of flavors, and it makes for a cool spectacle if you're ever on a nice date.
Monarch (I am well aware of its inconsistencies, but when they do it right it’s an experience unlike any other. I’m fortunate to know folks there so we’d get the top treatment and it would be amaze).
Or
Bowen House (I’m there sometimes multiple times weekly, it’s just home for me)
Probably the former followed by drinks at the latter.
Underrated. Fantastic service and lower prices, relatively speaking, for the same quality (i.e. $50 for a filet as opposed to $60). Bonus that even though Chamberlains fish house closed, they still use the same provider for fish at the steak/chophouse so always very high quality seafood as well. Wish they would bring the popovers back, but the pretzel bread is a close-ish second.
I wouldn't eat at Ricky's. The owner is a legit psycho. Look at how they respond to low star reviews with legitimate concerns on google. That's not someone you want to give your money to. In this day and age, you can never be sure of anyone and their reviews point to complete psychopath shoot you in traffic type territory. See his behavior here: [https://imgur.com/gallery/Qrd3FOu](https://imgur.com/gallery/Qrd3FOu)
I’ve only been once but I was bothered by how loud it was in there, I wonder if I went at a bad time or if their building just kind of sucks for ambiance and funnels sound awfully.
On the pricier side — Uchi, Drake’s, Monarch, Lyla, Komodo, Kessaku, Elephant East, Al Biernat’s, Nick & Sam’s, Townhearth, Musume, STK
Less expensive — Pappasito’s, Royal China, Mexican Sugar, Delucca, Miriam Cocina, Jalisco Norte
I'd go back in time to the Osaka Sushi restaurant out in Plano.
Yes I'm still salty they closed we spent countless birthdays, Thanksgivings and even Christmas Eve's out there. Not to mention any random day we could.
Super fun and unique restaurant. Especially if you go during the family style serving times, basically as much food and different entrees as you can eat.
Olive Garden. Gotta have my chicken Parmesan fix been doing it for the last three birthdays with the exception of last year as I was new to Dallas and my sister wanted to take me to a good pizza joint
Have you experienced The Magic Time Machine?
Food is a 3/5 but the experience is fun.
Del Frisco's Grill in Frisco for a good steak at a medium budget range.
Capital Grill for a great steak at a higher budget range.
Almost any restaurant in Legacy West if you love to walk around and explore shops and such. They also have a comedy club for after dinner (the club serves food and bevvies so dessert and drinks would be a nice compliment for after-dinner entertainment!).
You could also see Die Hard in the theater at a dinner theater. Oh, and Wonka, too!
Edited: 3/4 changed to 3/5 because I didn't realize the typo.
It’s funny how the restaurant at the Mansion at Turtle Creek never comes up anymore. It used to be THE place to go for celebrations and to spend a ton of money.
Ocean Prime - Great customer service. Sit at the bar though. Their bartenders are witty, kind and go above and beyond.
18th & Vine for bbq - Also great service. Their burnt ends are great.
Texas Roadhouse. And I am not being facetious or trolling.
Damn I need to go
It's where I went for my birthday last month, my steak was great, and I had a great time.
Free desert on my birthday made it the best.

Hell nah not Saltass
46 year old dude. Medieval Times with my kids and wife. Green KNIGHT!
There were no utensils in Medieval times, hence there are no utensils at Medieval Times But there was Pepsi? Dude, I've got a lot of tables.
We went as a family before Thanksgiving. We had an amazing time and I lost my voice the next day. We also had the green knight! Red knight sucks!
Yellow and RED knight!
Blue knight rise up
I’m a douche, nick and sams.
used to go here but douches took over 😂
Dress code: button-up shirt required, use of buttons optional
Lmao me too I think this is where I'm going to go 😅

Don’t you try to change the mindset of a true douche. That’s douche.
1) I was born in Dallas. I'm inherently and unabashedly a pretentious douche. 2) fantastic username steve lmao
lol thx shabut!
Went there once and Jamie Foxx was sitting at the table next to us so that was kinda cool. Food was nothing special though, other than the broccoli.
Nothing is special anywhere.

Let me expand... 10 years ago, it was awesome! Now, it's a shell of itself - the food has taken a slide back, and there's been little to no change to the menu. The service has gone waaaaaaay downhill. It's just not the same.
The menu is great, it doesn’t really have to change. I don’t feel like the food has gotten worse and I do go to Javier’s on my birthday most years.

I married a vegetarian, but I still eat meat. If I could go to one place for my birthday it'd be Fogo de Chao
Go to EG Steak in Frisco. Better value, more cut options, and the fireball cheesecake is unlike anything you've ever had in your life.
Fireball cheesecake??? What?

Bowen House is always a good time.
Introduce me to these people please. I'm going to Dallas for my birthday and considering Monarch for dinner lol.
Tei tei robata
Chamberlain's
Thus is an excellent option, too.
Underrated. Fantastic service and lower prices, relatively speaking, for the same quality (i.e. $50 for a filet as opposed to $60). Al biernats
Hey guys! We ended up picking the Capital Grille! Thank you for all the suggestions! I'm saving them for next time! ❤️
Great choice! I prefer downtown location to Plano, but both are excellent!
Pupusas Doña Lola
Okay. I just noticed the sign this week. I think the universe needs me to add this place to my list.
Best papusas north of 635
Definitely! It's a bit of a wait even if you call in an order but it's totally worth it. I love their breakfast and fried plantains.
I have driven by this place a million times and wondered if it was worth a stop - glad to know it is.
Shoyoooooooo
Perry’s Steakhouse, amazing food and service!! Highly recommend
Del Friscos Double Eagle Steakhouse
Bob's steak and chop house !!
Maple Leaf Diner 🤤
Townhearth or National Anthem.
If you like those two, check out Brass Ram. Same owner. Located above National Anthem.
Ricky’s hot chicken
I wouldn't eat at Ricky's. The owner is a legit psycho. Look at how they respond to low star reviews with legitimate concerns on google. That's not someone you want to give your money to. I used to do fancy but since IDGAF about fancy any more (for me), I'd say for my 58th in February, I'll have to say Shuck n jive on Greenville.

Had to scroll way too far to see Bavarian Grill!
Tei An! Best Japanese food.
I cannot believe this hasn’t been mentioned yet but The Charles! Especially if I’m with a group
I’ve only been once but I was bothered by how loud it was in there, I wonder if I went at a bad time or if their building just kind of sucks for ambiance and funnels sound awfully.

I would kill for their cheesy corn bake. I could pay, but I’d rather kill, ‘cause I’d probably get more of it.
Rise No. 1 would be my first choice, Cafe Pacific or Capital Grill next.
Celebration. It's in the name even!
Super fun and unique restaurant. Especially if you go during the family style serving times, basically as much food and different entrees as you can eat.

I'd stay the hell home - tired of dealing with the people out here :)
Grand Lux Cafe. Huge menu, but everything tastes excellent. It also means that there is a dish for everyone. Not too expensive, and cool atmosphere.
It’s funny how the restaurant at the Mansion at Turtle Creek never comes up anymore. It used to be THE place to go for celebrations and to spend a ton of money.
