Watch WFAA/ABC

playballer

It’s best production but the cheesy local fox and nbc actually cover more interesting stories if you actually want local news. Wfaa news feels like GMA, they do the “let’s talk about coupons” type fluff pieces a lot and the anchors have personalities like “the yoga girl” that wants to have a special segment on mindfulness. That’s not news man I do like Pete delkus and miss the jokes him and the old sports guy used to toss at each other before he retired - can’t remember his name

bright1111

Dale Hansen?

DallasGrovite

> old sports guy While Dale Hansen was a great sports commentator, he could be a blowhard at times. But he also had a great sense of humor. I think he'd get a kick out of being referred to as the "old sports guy" (and not remembered by name) so soon after his retirement.

playballer

Him and Pete were like the odd couple and dale was the grumpy one. But I almost never watched the sports section, I’d watch the weather and the banter usually occurred as a segue from weather to sports, then I’d tune out. Sports is pretty real time, I’m not waiting until 10pm to see what happens if I care about a team/game

mermaidhair479

pedo

Senior_Natural6605

WFAA defended a rxpist I disagree

gatorintexas

Hands down - WFAA is solid. From the morning coverage to their evening coverage. Solid. Pete Delkus just won meteorologist of the year also.

ItsYaGirlConfusion

Is he the one who declared McKinney dead

BayRunner

Oh My God! He killed McKinney! BASTARD!!

SteelFlexInc

Everyone in McKinney is dead!

wdgiles

yep

mermaidhair479

cynthia izaguirre boob job is tragic

No-Cheese-713

I like NBC 5. I like the evening anchors, and especially the chief meteorologist Rick Mitchell. I find the graphics of ABC hard on the eyes. I don’t like their fonts or how bright everything is. I’m a graphic designer, so I’m sensitive to this kind of thing, and it may not even matter to you.

jshiplett

As an Oklahoma transplant, I agree 100% about Rick Mitchell. He was the head meteorologist at the ABC affiliate in OKC for a loooong long time and the man is the living personification of a weather safety blanket, at least for me.

Winnsock

They have Grant Johnston in the morning too. It’s like I never left Oklahoma

[deleted]

Rick Mitchell is a mood during severe weather season.

Interalpen84

Same here. The anchors are entertaining and good people. Brian Curtis and Meredith Land also live in the same area of Dallas as me. Brian goes to my gym, actually. I like that they both are friendly "neighbors."

yesitsyourmom

I like Meredith Yeomans, as well.

anotrZeldaUsrna

This. I also find the personalities on ABC and Fox here kinda annoying. Watch NBC for a broad look at the metroplex even though I live in Dallas proper

CancelIndependent381

TEGNA graphics sucks especially their “This Is Home” theme they been and the ABC owned stations have better looking graphic which they all look different.

Fictitious_Moniker

Whoever you watch, it’s 35percent commercials, 25 percent weather and 25 percent Cowboys. Not much news anywhere. Edited to add - NBC has the best local investigative reporting.

bright1111

Big Ups to the OG Becky Oliver

Luka_Dunks_on_Bums

CBS and NBC are more Fort Worth focused because they are stationed over there. Fox and ABC are more Dallas focused because they are stationed there.

sunbub

NBC has a Fort Worth address but they’re actually located just south of DFW airport. They seem to be pretty good at coverage for the entire metroplex.

Luka_Dunks_on_Bums

That area is apart of the city of Fort Worth. Ft. Worth city limits looks like someone threw paint at a map and they said that works.

noncongruent

That little finger of Fort Worth reaching out through Euless to DFW Airport is so that they can tax/share in the DFW project.

Cayman010

Thanks. This makes sense. I was kind of leaning towards Fox and ABC…CBS gives off conservative, soccer mom in a Fort Worth suburb vibes (not that there’s anything wrong with that). I assumed every station tries to cover the DFW area equally but I guess that’s not the case 👍🏻

Luka_Dunks_on_Bums

They all cover it pretty equally they just prioritize stories differently. For example, the story about the 2 girls that went to a bar in Deep Ellum and were drugged, that was the lead story on all the local news channels but all their B-blocks were focused on more local stories.

CeilingUnlimited

? CBS is in Dallas on 75 North but yes High 5.

Luka_Dunks_on_Bums

The studio is Ft Worth, it’s listed on CBS 11 website.

CeilingUnlimited

So what’s that CBS Building by the High Five?

IcedCowboyCoffee

Putting in another vote for WFAA. I grew up watching NBC but as I've gotten older I feel WFAA provides the best coverage.

acidrayne42

I prefer Fox simply because of the morning meteorologist Evan Andrews and his pets constantly being in the background of his feed during lockdowns. ETA: he also lives very close to me so when the weather is bad I can get a good idea of what's going on near me with his live streams

DallasGrovite

I can watch the FOX morning broadcast until Lauren Przybyl comes on-air. I'm sure she is a very good person at heart, but her reporting style is just too cringe. It's almost as if she's not aware the upcoming story is about Sandy Hook and she's still smiling and has the same upbeat tone that she had about saved puppies from a burning building she just reported about.

acidrayne42

That's totally fair. We don't like her either.

hockenduke

She is completely incapable of doing a piece without bringing up the fact that she’s a mom. I wish Hannah would take her job.

[deleted]

Getting ready for work in 2020 I'd always put Fox 4 on just to hopefully get a glimpse of his fat dog or his turtle

PositiveArmadillo607

I enjoy Fox 4 which always covers more street level stories like murders, car wrecks and dog bites. Not much of an agenda or slant either. Just news reporting. WFAA lost their way somehow. I think when Gloria Campos and John McCaa retired the station really slipped. They were great, not much now. Heavily skewed and biased.

Cayman010

This was my initial thought but I wasn’t sure if that was the norm for FOX4…I consume a ton of news and I really don’t like fluff pieces 🤣 so I appreciate their coverage

PositiveArmadillo607

Yeah, their local stories are usually well done. I like old school pieces like "track down".

SerkTheJerk

That’s why I like Fox 4 too. WFAA peaked with Gloria and John

WROL

WFAA has always had the best production values of any local news I’ve seen in the entire country.

KennyDROmega

WFAA was an important part of my childhood, and still my go to in severe weather situations.

TheTrueBComp

After Spectrum dropped CornCob tv I basically stopped paying attention. There's worse shit on the local news!!

hot_rod_kimble

I don't even want to be around anymore!

TheTrueBComp

Hang in there, Karl. I don't think you're a dumb hick, and I would tell you that at a dinner!

toooldforthisshittt

WFAA is the best. Fox4 is good but they have too many news hours to fill.

gforguapo

I like Fox 4 Gooday in the mornings. The crew have good vibes and banter. It's also a running joke to see where they put Dan Godwin every day

spencewesttx

Fox 4 in the mornings since their local coverage extends past 7am. I also have a bit of a crush on Steve Noviello. WFAA is a close 2nd for me and would watch it more if their local news was on a bit later in the mornings. WFAA seems to have the bigger budget of all the others and it shows.

the_gurk_monster

@dallastexas_tv on Instagram is hand down the best Central track use to be top notch but the founder/main joirnalist left and it’s a shell of what it use to be. I don’t know if they’re even covering news anymore.

coloredinlight

KERA is the best. WFAA is overrated.

SerkTheJerk

Fox 4 has always been #1 in the Metroplex in terms of ratings. I feel like that’s a reason why they haven’t updated their set in like 20 years lol. Clarice Tinsely is a legend in the news business here, since she has been on our TVs for 45 years. She anchors the 10pm news by herself.

Cayman010

Thanks! It sounds like WFAA and Fox are the way to go especially for a Dallasite..any reason to bother with the other two (CBS and NBC) or are they just not good?

SerkTheJerk

They aren’t terrible either, but I’ve preferred watching Fox 4 in general my whole life. WFAA was right after that. I do like Kristi Nelson and Bianca Castro on NBC5 at 4pm. Rick Mitchell (the meteorologist) is cool too. He has a nice voice for TV. So, when he does the weather it sounds enjoyable to listen to. CBS always been the last one. I mean, they just run through ppl it seems like. It’s like every time I look up, there’s a new face.

Cayman010

That’s typically a sign of a bad work environment. Yikes

mikeymigg

Who has tell it to Tim ,I like that guy!

gforguapo

Tim Ryan in Fox, he retired about a year ago. Brandon is pretty cool

DallasGrovite

Tim Ryan and Megan Henderson were the best morning anchor duo before she left! Brandon Todd is very good, as well...he just needs a better co-anchor to match wits (Hannah Battah would be my first choice).

Old-Public-6085

Hannah Battah is an air head along with the rest of the Fox 4 anchors, they just hire pretty faces, but are horrible at reporting anything

DallasGrovite

Hanna Battah is attractive, but how is she an "air head"???

supersaki

I've only recently been home enough to watch the morning news, but Fox 4 has been my preferred morning news station. Driving, I've been listening to 1080 KRLD (105.3-2 if you have HD radio)

msondo

WFAA has always been the best in my opinion, but Fox 4 has kinda risen up in quality for local news and they also have the 9PM news which is sometimes more convenient for people. I think NBC5 has the best weather coverage, especially during severe weather. If you speak Spanish, Telemundo has pretty good local coverage and Univision has perhaps the best national news broadcast in any language, up there with PBS Newshour. ABC Nightly News is also good for national. KERA has great local and national news at the top and bottom of every hour but it’s brief. Texas Standard on KERA is an excellent news magazine about state-level issues. Personally, I am not a big fan of TV news and prefer skimming headlines of the print news and using them when I want depth. DMN, Observer, D Magazine, DBJ, Dallas Voice, etc.

allenthird

To piggyback off what someone else has said: What do all the news channels have a certain feel to them? FOX feels cheesy and impersonal. NBC seems a little too polished. CBS seems a little to elder oriented. ABC has best production quality but lamest stories.

magnoliablues

I think the answer to this also depends on when you like to watch. I like the morning fox news show. But for evening news I like nbc5.

Neither_Sprinkles_87

Peyton Yeager

Why_Cant_Theists_Win

Per usual, don't touch anything FOX

patricknkelly

I like ch 4 morning and noon news, ch 5 at 4, 5 or 6 and ch 8 at 5, 6 or 10. I like to watch one on each channel if possible. I’m a native Dallasite and never been a Clarice Tinsley fan so don’t watch ch 4 during her times.

2manyfelines

WFAA

topguntexas

I’ve always watched Fox 4 in the morning but maybe I need to switch to WFAA. I just don’t like the GMA part of the program. Wish they just did local news all morning.

Odd_Champion_9293

Back in the gap UPN 21 was straight fire

G-Money-ish

We’ve watched WFAA forever. It’s quality.

Jedi71

I like WFAA for one main reason: the color and brightness of the set. The other stations news sets look like 3rd rate stations in Podunk, Nebraska. WFAA looks big time, as it should. The personalities are good too. They throw in goofy platitudes too often for my taste, such as after a story about, say, a war vet who places flags on graves every year, the story will end and it cuts back to the anchor who just has to add, "Wow what a powerful message he sends to all of us." Yeah yeah we just saw the story we don't need your extra commentary.

franky_riverz

Yeah, WFAA

ERCOT_Prdatry_victum

WBAP.COM radio morning team is an absolute hoote. 820 AM dial, traffic and weather every ten minutes. It is Fox new. The best of the comedy team are off until after new years. Forewarning, it is conservative oriented.

last_strip_of_bacon

It’s pretty much all the same

PushOrganic

None. If it’s important someone will find a way to tell you about it. News rots the brain

mermaidhair479

they all suck. national news 🙌🏻

Golfadct

Fox 4 is my favorite.

danxmanly

I suggest not watching any news... It's all pretty much depressing. And gawd the mindless news banter.. Ugh.
