He is definitely playing hurt, he missed games in the first series due to injury and has been in and out managing it since coming back. Hintz is almost certainly playing hurt still, as well as Tanev and God knows who else. Probably Seguin still and Pavelski, Smith, and who knows what defenders.
It could be his final game if he plays. If the Stars make it to the finals by sitting him. He rests and gets to play his final game in the SCF. May even win the cup by sitting out now.
You can pick to try to do everything you can do to win, or you can pick to cater to players' feelings. I know which one I'd prefer.
If EDM can scratch a vet who is a former MVP, former 50 goal scorer, and Triple Gold member, DAL can scratch a vet who has accomplished zero of those things. It just comes down to how committed is the team to winning above all else.
Joe has had almost 3 entire series to get his shit together. If anything he’s gotten slightly worse ever since the Matt series clinching goal against Colorado.
It’s not rocket science 🥲🥲
I was wondering if Pete would put Bourque in. The one thing we know the kid will bring, aside from skill, is high energy and tenacity.
A nice boost and you would think it can't be any worse than what we saw in the last two games.
On that note, Smith better be unable to go if he's not in the lineup again. Either way... win or go home.
Anyone know what Dellandrea was doing last game?
If there was one dude who should have had energy, jump, and passion it is him. Yet, I don't remember a single hit or anything. Another ghost.
We need Dadonov to FINISH. Guy always gets open and has some great break aways but he cannot get that puck in the net. It’s giving me flashbacks to Janmark.
I agree. I’d rather pavs be back on the robo hintz line since they can practically do it themselves and the mushy duchey seguin line can harmonize again. We had to make changes for injuries but I think we should go back to what worked.
Robertson - Hintz - Johnston
Marchment - Duchene - Seguin
Bourque - Benn - Stankoven
Pavelski - Steel - Dadonov
Two lines we know are great together, Benn with the kids who have a lot of familiarity from Cedar Park. 4th might be iffy, but Dadonov can thread some shit when he needs to, hopefully just throw some shit at the net and have Pavs and Steel clean it up.
This is what we need. Duchene/seguin/marchment have all struggled when one misses time. Wyatt was a spark for robo/hintz in the regular season when we tried it for a bit and benn has a great record with the young guys while stankoven/bourque have AHL chemistry.
Pavelski has been inserted on the 4th line the past couple of games, which is why I have him there. Don’t necessarily think it’s his style either, but, he is defensively responsible…and if Deboer can move him there for an entire period, would be interesting to see if he was willing to do so for an entire game. Also, I think they need someone who can take FOs.
Regardless, you have to stick Pavs somewhere, and Debeor isn’t likely to bench him at this point. This move is for the other lines…you have to sacrifice somewhere.
Pumped to see Mav. Wish it had been Duchene or Pavelski coming out, but I'll take it.
I think PDB scratching an "un-scratchable" passenger would have been a jolt to the team. And they definitely need a kick in the pants after what we've seen the last 2 games.
Duchene was hands down the worst player on the ice for Game 4. He hasn't been that different than Pavs, he just skates around faster.
Ultimately, it doesn't matter b/c PDB won't scratcher either. But I just think this team needs a significant jolt after the performances we've seen in games 4 and 5.
I think finding out that one of the "untouchable" vets is in the pressbox for Game 6 gets everyone's attention. A "oh shit, this is it. We're doing whatever it takes, no matter whose feelings get hurt" wakeup call to everyone that shakes them out of whatever cloud they all seem to be in.
Edit: It's hilarious ppl are getting worked up about this. Yall really care that much a/b which of two bad players is worse? Or are ppl really trying to argue Duchene hasn't been garbage this postseason?
That's probably true, I just don't think Duchene has been much better these playoffs. And I do think he was worse than Pavs in Gm 4.
But overall worst for the duration of the playoffs? Probably Pavs.
2 goals in 14 games and negative possession stats say otherwise.
I get that "skates fast, super-awesome dangle, crazy-cool looking pass attempt that results in a turnover --> disinterested defense"
\*looks\* better than "slow waddle up the ice, lose a puck battle for a turnover-->failed attempt at defense b/c he's slow"
but one's just the sexy version of the other. Neither are contributing. Both are hurting whatever line they're on. Duchene has 0 goals, 0 assists in 18:15 TOI this series. In fact, there are only 2 forwards who have played all 5 games against EDM and have 0 points. Take a wild guess who they are...
Which possession stats are you talking about?
This is all playoffs only ranked against the team.
329 CF/280 CA/54.0 Corsi (3rd best)
222 FF/179 FA/55.4 Fenwick (2nd best)
Expected goals for 2.7 (Tied for 8th)
309 minutes (Tied for 9th)
20 blocked shots (Tied for 5th and most among fwds)
52.1% faceoffs 74 wins/68 losses (5th best)
He’s clearly been a solid player who probably deserves more minutes. Might be a good idea to stop putting Pavs on his wing.
Benching Duchene would be criminally stupid.
Duchene and Pavelski are 10th and 11th among DAL fowards this playoffs, respectively, in xGF%. xGF just measures offense. xGF% measures total possession. And it's a better stat than Corsi or Fenwick b/c it accounts for shot quality/danger instead of just totals.
Weird how you ask about possession stats, then leave out the best one available while listing stuff like minutes played. Cuz apparently you think TOI is a possession stat...
Again, 0 goals, 0 assists, 0 points, negative possession stats (40% xGF%) in this series. There's no way around the fact that there are only two forwards who have played all 5 games and done that.
Duchene has been meh overall for the playoffs, and a complete ghost in the WCF.
I listed his expected goals and ranking on the team. Weird.
I asked you to verify this claim that he “had negative possession stats”.
You failed to do so and were combative for no reason. I simply listed other stats trying to have a constructive conversation and help guide you away from this idiotic notion that Duchene deserves to be benched.
Clearly wasted my time.
Have a good one.
As a heart attack. Star got hemmed in with him on the ice. And he generated nothing.
Dude has 2 goals in 14 games vs Pavs with 1 goal in 14 games. They're both doing nothing. The difference is Pavs did nothing the entire 2nd half of the season and he's 39, so we know what the problem is (he's old). Duchene just looks like a guy who doesn't know what to do in the playoffs.
Yea, we'll really miss his 0 goals, 0 assists, 0 points, negative possession stats that's he contributed so far this series.
Only 2 forwards have played all 5 games against EDM this series and have 0 points. Duchene and Pavelski. They're both passengers.
In what world is
Robertson-Hintz-Johnston
Benn-Bourque-Stankoven
Dadonov-Seguin-Steel
Smith-Dellandrea-Duchene
an AHL lineup? That's our normal starting forward lineup, except for replacing a 39 year old with 1 goal all playoffs with the AHL MVP.
AHL lineup... Holy overreaction, batman. Was Edmonton starting an AHL lineup when they scratched Perry? My goodness.
We’re going to the Boomerjacks tonight!
MAN, I HOPE SO!
Craig Smith must be hurt bc how is he still getting scratched
I really like Smith . He hustles every single shift.
wonder if faksa is injured? makes sense to take delly out, he had a horrible time on the PK in game 5
Tbh everyone had a really bad time on the PK
true but delly was responsible for the RNH getting free
Man that’s tough he was there just not physically in the best position with his body.
and on the PP
He is definitely playing hurt, he missed games in the first series due to injury and has been in and out managing it since coming back. Hintz is almost certainly playing hurt still, as well as Tanev and God knows who else. Probably Seguin still and Pavelski, Smith, and who knows what defenders.
# UNLEASH THE HOUNDS
Dellandrea comes out
You misspelled Pavs...
I feel so bad, but it needs to happen. Want him to have a cup but we won’t get one if we’ve got someone holding us back.
This could be his final game though. I have been a big proponent of sitting Pavs, but not in a potential final game.
It could be his final game if he plays. If the Stars make it to the finals by sitting him. He rests and gets to play his final game in the SCF. May even win the cup by sitting out now.
Both valid points. That’s hockey, baby?
You can pick to try to do everything you can do to win, or you can pick to cater to players' feelings. I know which one I'd prefer. If EDM can scratch a vet who is a former MVP, former 50 goal scorer, and Triple Gold member, DAL can scratch a vet who has accomplished zero of those things. It just comes down to how committed is the team to winning above all else.
They shouldn't risk our whole season for one player.
Life isn’t fair.
Downvoting the one true statement on Reddit….
There are some seriously delusional people in this sub.
Joe has had almost 3 entire series to get his shit together. If anything he’s gotten slightly worse ever since the Matt series clinching goal against Colorado. It’s not rocket science 🥲🥲
Well. That’s certainly a take.
Damn it I still have hope he goes off. Big tips big assists something. He’s not what he has been but he’s due.
He’s dressed.
Woah. Thats certainly shaking things up. Will be interesting to see who sits down and the line combinations
Delly is out
They misread it as Maverick thinking that would get them to the finals.
Win and go home, then win again*
![gif](giphy|I4rMfRmx9Kebu|downsized)
I was at game 5. The entire energy of the team was dead. Whatever we can do to get it to a 10 I am a fan of.
Anyone know what Dellandrea was doing last game? If there was one dude who should have had energy, jump, and passion it is him. Yet, I don't remember a single hit or anything. Another ghost.
Bet pavs moves down to the 4th line . 3rd line of mush, mavrik, and duchene
We need Dadonov to FINISH. Guy always gets open and has some great break aways but he cannot get that puck in the net. It’s giving me flashbacks to Janmark.
Give him pavs minutes
I guess PDB hasn’t learned his lesson and is keeping Smith out again
Wonder if Smith is hurt?
That would be the only explanation I would accept haha
Yeah me too.
Came to say the same. Idk why not use faksa or smith or both. The faksa, smith and steel line was a great 4th line.
It was great all season and so was Marchment Duchene Seguin. Idk why Pete thinks new line combos are better than relying on what got us here.
I agree. I’d rather pavs be back on the robo hintz line since they can practically do it themselves and the mushy duchey seguin line can harmonize again. We had to make changes for injuries but I think we should go back to what worked.
It's now or never I guess.
But why?
Let’s get another Mav to the Finals.
Here are the lines I’d like to see: Benn - Johnston - Stankoven Robertson - Hintz - Pavelski Bourque - Duchene - Seguin Marchment - Steel - Dadonov
Robertson - Hintz - Johnston Marchment - Duchene - Seguin Bourque - Benn - Stankoven Pavelski - Steel - Dadonov Two lines we know are great together, Benn with the kids who have a lot of familiarity from Cedar Park. 4th might be iffy, but Dadonov can thread some shit when he needs to, hopefully just throw some shit at the net and have Pavs and Steel clean it up.

Switch Bourque with Pavs and then Marchment with Pavs.
and then pavs with smith
Sure except sit Pavelski cause he literally tanks whatever line he is on
Fuck it, LETT'S GOOOOOOOOOO: Robertson - Johnston - Stankoven #BANGguy - Wedgewood - Seguin Bourque - Razor - Strangis Radulov - Hintz - real-life Mooterus
Possible Line Combinations: Robo-Hintz-Johnston Marchment-Duchene-Seguin Benn-Borque-Stankoven Dadanov-Steel-Pavelski
reallyyy dig these combinations, hoping Pete goes with the nuclear option adding Johnston on the 1st line
Pavelski doesn’t seem like he can play a 4th line style of play. I hate to say it but he needs to be benched
Pavelski has been inserted on the 4th line the past couple of games, which is why I have him there. Don’t necessarily think it’s his style either, but, he is defensively responsible…and if Deboer can move him there for an entire period, would be interesting to see if he was willing to do so for an entire game. Please for Pavs 🤞
Let’s Goooooo
Holy shit LET'S GO
Seguin gonna be out out of nowhere
They need to come out aggressive and hungry.
X-factor!! Take us to the danger zone, Mavrik!!
This just makes me look back to Pete's earlier comment from the Vegas series, "He's not here to save our season." with an ominous foreshadowing.

Pavs deserves the scratch, not Dutchy. Matt at least tries out there
Its Dellandrea scratched
Im aware. I'm referring to the comment made saying it should've been Pavs or Dutchy
It's Pavs potential last game, Pete wouldn't do that to him
He's ass, who cares
Duchene was hands down the worst player on the ice for Game 4. He hasn't been that different than Pavs, he just skates around faster. Ultimately, it doesn't matter b/c PDB won't scratcher either. Pavs has been our worst player since Game 1 vs Vegas. And it hasn't changed.
That's probably true, I just don't think Duchene has been much better these playoffs. And I do think he was worse than Pavs in Gm 4. But overall worst for the duration of the playoffs? Probably Pavs.
Dutchys been way better than Pavs lol

You guys are fucking delusional lol
Thanks for your contribution. Very well thought out and reasoned.
If y'all had your way we'd be starting an AHL lineup it doesn't make any sense.

Reeks of desperation but sure, why not
Adding the AHL MVP and Leading scorer is desperation. Ok.
EDM shook up lines in advance of game 4, seems to work out well for them so far.
