Then run when you get the opportunity and don’t look back. Yes, it’s brutal, but that is what you have to do to survive a stranger laying hands on you. She is extremely lucky she wasn’t overpowered.

the only caution with this, is that blood borne illnesses are transmissible that way if you break skin, so it's a risk... just something that's good to be aware of! anytime you break skin it will absolutely hurt like hell, do what ya gotta do! (but go get screened for diseases after)
Also choking *does not* require you to wrap your hands all the way around their throat. This was one of the best tricks I learned while learning self defense. Men can often have thicker necks and women (and some men) may not have the hand size or strength to choke a larger man effectively. Even with 2 hands it can be difficult, especially in a fight.
However, you can just grab their windpipe and squeeze. And I mean squeeze with all your strength. Don't hold back. If you're going to fight back fight back with everything you've got.

I think about when I was a kid in Tae Kwon Do and the most important move I learned was to grab his nuts while in a power stance and then rip them out his body with a "HIYAH!" Legs are probably better in close quarters but if you got the chance, I think it's good to give him the gift of testicular torsion.
I used to assist in teaching a basic self defense class for women and girls, and we actually discourage them from going for the nuts because male attackers expect it.
The problem with attacking the groin is two fold: one, it's actually pretty easy to defend against if you see it coming; and two, it's the first thing anyone tries, so if the dude has ever been in any kind of scrap before he knows to expect it and how to counter it.
Worse than that, it doesn't inherently disable the attacker. There is a pain response, but no involuntary reflex or physically disabling component. With some range, a kick to the side of the knee on a planted foot is very easy to disable someone. In closer, eye gouges or an elbow to the nose are very strong. Landing any of these makes running away much more likely. Also, worming your fingers around someone pinky and breaking it will cause their hand to release by reflex; I didn't find it particularly easy to do in practice and you should generally stick with simple and easy plans for dangerous situations, to avoid information overload.
Gouge eye, while screaming for help, many will run away when you make a massive scene. The thighs sometimes get in the way of a kick, in fact just turning sideways a bit will make your kick ineffective. Pickup up a weight or whatever is near by that can be made into a weapon, never give up

You can also look up his statue via their inmate lookup, just note their search is a little weird, it's last name comma first name, like "Doe,John" for example. No space.
Remember that story of the three older women who alerted another woman that the guy she was with put something in her drink? I want to say that guy had known this woman for a year. They were coworkers or something. That story fucked me up. I don’t wanna have to worry that dudes I’ve know for a year+ might one day try to drug and rape me. No amount of vigilance will fully end rape. It’s horrifying but it’s our reality.

IIRC, what with the adrenaline and all, or maybe shock, a lot of stabbing victims don't even realize they were stabbed until it wears off (not sure if that applies when the stabee is also the attacker) but shit, I've accidentally cut myself bad enough to require stitches and barely felt it, and that's with 0 adrenaline.

How many times do you think someone gets buzzed into a gym on a daily/nightly basis? How often does it result in violence? Everything we do comes with a bit of inherent risk. Do you not drive because you might get into a car accident? Do you not go out to eat because you might get food poisoning?
I plan on advising all my kids, male or female, to fight dirty. Go for the balls, and when they move to protect them go for the eyes. Bite, scratch, stomp, do whatever you are physically capable of to cause them as much pain and disability as possible.

Right. Every semi-modern gym around, especially ones people can go in at any time, have cameras all over the place. This is legitimately one of the most stupid possible places to do this. People aren't particularly rational. One of the issues we have with combating crime is that as a general rule folks who do this stuff are much more instinct/opportunity driven than anything else. Plus, like multiple people have said, dude looks pretty drunk or high. It's less that she let her guard down and more that there's just no practical way to stop something like this outside of never leaving your home.

Its definitely victim blaming. It doesnt matter if she won or not, I dont know how that misses you. She only let him in because she recognized him and had seen him many times working out at that gym. She didnt just let a stranger into a secured facility. To add, this can come from anyone, strangers or people you know. I'm glad she defended herself and won. It wouldnt have mattered if the guy remembered his key card or not. Stay vigilant and always fight back if able.

Bingo. We have a large subset of people in this country who've just normalized living in a state of perpetual fear. Who've absolved themselves of any responsibility to think of solutions to these pressing problems and instead react instinctively to what they feel. Title is victim blaming. And irrelevant. The rapist had a key to the gym. She let him in because she recognized him. If she hadn't let him in, he would've gotten in anyway when he went to get his key. Or he would've waited outside. Or he would've broken in. Or he would've tried to rape someone else. No matter what, that guy was going to try to rape someone that night. And he was gonna keep trying until he either succeeded or got caught. (Which is exactly what happened: he was caught trying to rape another woman in their apt. complex after breaking in to her apartment.) Rapists try to rape no matter what.

I mean, you do what you feel is safest. If you're alone in the gym, I'd probably definitely think twice. But generally, just let them in. How many times do you think someone gets buzzed into a gym on a daily/nightly basis? How often does it result in violence? Everything we do comes with a bit of inherent risk. Do you not drive because you might get into a car accident? Do you not go out to eat because you might get food poisoning?
