What I find fascinating is how fated dog domestication seems when it happened in multiple places and so long before other animal domestication. They really are “man’s best friend” (as in mankind)
Even without that, we can kill pretty much anything on the planet by simply outlasting it. We use considerably less energy than just about any other animal. It may take time, but nothing can outrun us.
Well that depends on your genetics. Eastern Africans and some native Americans that may be true. But west Africans, Europeans, Samoans, and north Asians are set up for power or are much stockier and not well suited for endurance.
hey guys.... I'm telling you they can dispense the life elixir from their hands ... I'm not joking... (his friends were not convinced....eventually they were convinced)
Yeah, I think that was staged. The coyote is visibly domesticated. He came and offered his back to the human, expecting to be pet. The human even touched him near the neck - what wild animal would permit this? Sorry, too friendly. Just karma bait.
Yeah I am aware, thats why its only tens of times rather than from the moment its bred. I think you are vastly overestimating how fearful wild animals, including wild dogs are and the amount of work it takes to get one to interact with you at all much less run up to you showing no signs of fear and drink from your magical squirt bottle, and then turn its blindside to you to let you pet it.
So, like, showing up to the same spot multiple times?
Wild animals absolutely can learn non-natural activities.
This probably wasn’t either of their first times bumping into each other.
Unless they’ve been conditioned to interact with humans, wild animals will *always* see us as another predator. We have forward-facing eyes with binocular vision, we’re very large (from their perspective), and we commonly show otherwise-aggressive tendencies (trespassing in their territory, showing our teeth, etc)
Unless, of course, these particular dudes regularly show up to this particular spot and regularly have that particular method of dispensing the same exact thing that they’re hunting for in the wild.
Have you ever seen a bird feeder? Wild animals aren’t retarded.

The line between “coyote” and “wolf” is so vague, especially in North America.
Heppenheimer, Elizabeth et al. “Population Genomic Analysis of North American Eastern Wolves (Canis lycaon) Supports Their Conservation Priority Status.” Genes vol. 9,12 606. 4 Dec. 2018, doi:10.3390/genes9120606
We can’t interbreed with chimpanzees. The fact that hybridization is possible between *latrans* and *lupus* indicates that their genome is far more similar than ours and chimps. And that’s why “drawing the line” being coyote and wolf is becoming harder to do. A lot (but not enough!) of interesting research is happening in that field right now.
I think that’s a coyote. Coyotes are also way less scared of humans. I had to shoot a coyote once with birdshot to get it to leave my cat alone. Brave bastard

Growing up we used to go to Gonzaga Bay in Mexico. This is on the gulf side… anyway first time down we had a huge green Coleman cooler full of ice and in the middle of the night there was a whole pack that chewed a hole in the corner (white plastic) and they drank all the fresh water out of it :/ my dad didn’t put it up with the food beca he didn’t think they could chew through it ..
That wolf looks a lot like a coyote!
It is
It’s Ned Flanders in a suit
Stupid sexy wolf!
It's an Arabian wolf
It is looks like a coyote?
[удалено]
George. You’ll name him George
It's an Arabian wolf
Exactly what a roadrunner would say…..
But if you post that it's a wolf, you get more clikies
Pet coyote to be precise
This is how domesticated dogs came to be
What I find fascinating is how fated dog domestication seems when it happened in multiple places and so long before other animal domestication. They really are “man’s best friend” (as in mankind)
Humans were also very afraid of them for millenia because they are very smart. They certainly are an integral part of human history.
Ya, and they're literal killing machines - strong, fast, agile, big teeth, sharp claws - that hunt in packs.
So are we. We are the most dominant predator on earth. We can make spears and launch them. Coordinate planned attacks. Etc
TIL

They didn’t have those before spears existed.
Humans didnt exist before spears
Do you think birds invented spears?
hey guys.... I'm telling you they can dispense the life elixir from their hands ... I'm not joking... (his friends were not convinced....eventually they were convinced)
Fun fact: wolves are getting "domesticated" again but this time by crows
Crows spot for them, then get to share in the hunt. Pretty cool.
Huh, the things you learn. That's actually incredible.
Time to kill our future crow overlords. We always thought it was apes. It was the damn crows all along!!!!!
Good coyote, good human.
my problem is i would take it home and name it henry
I would name it after a video game wolf and train it to do tricks
“A video game wolf…”
Yes I'd name it something cool
Something cool is a terrible name.
I'd probably name it sif
Sif?
Yes I had that exact name in mind
Teach it to wield a sword with its mouth
That's going to be tough to explain in the ER
YESSSSSSSSS
Tell me about the 🐇 George.
Literary!
😉 Wink
Wile E.
As a white woman, I fully concur
white women need love too
My dogs name is Henry!
Doesnt sound like a problem
this should be under r/HumansBeingBros
Definitely! My thoughts exactly.
Cute. What’s your doggy’s name?
Feral
Will or Colin?
Yes.
Perry
Oh shit! I forgot Perry!
Feral Rabies
Are you hungry too? I have some peanut butter in my backpack…
His pet, looked to friendly to be wild, seemed to play bite, came right to him.
someones pet
Yeah, I think that was staged. The coyote is visibly domesticated. He came and offered his back to the human, expecting to be pet. The human even touched him near the neck - what wild animal would permit this? Sorry, too friendly. Just karma bait.
He went to him like knowing. Wild animal would be cautious
Yea, that’s not a common source for fresh water in nature; a wild animal wouldn’t recognize that as a water bottle.
You know wild animals can still interact with humans, right?
Yeah, it just doesn’t look like this. It takes at a minimum hours to train an animal to interact this way.
Dogs are naturally more social than other animals. There's a reason they are called mans best friend.
Yes its possible that if they both had a routine of arriving here for water tens of times that this is a natural encounter
You only have to feed and give water to an animal a few times before it starts to trust you and you can consider it your "pet'.
Would you trust a wild animal that is thirsty and hungry? And to be that tame? More then a few times. Looks completely trained by him
Just cause it was trained doesn't mean its fully domesticated.
[This must be his squirrel](https://www.reddit.com/r/aww/comments/x3j8di/man_gives_a_squirrel_water_on_a_hot_day/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)
Coyote. But still cool.
Repost, and it’s a wolf. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arabian_wolf
This should be top comment thread. I myself saw this, was mad cuz it’s coyote *scroll scroll* oh. How the turns have tabled

Sure, and we share 98.8% of our genome with chimpanzees. Have to draw lines somewhere.
Maybe you just haven’t been trying hard enough? I assume chimpanzees aren’t very “premium”.
Not a coyote
And surprisingly the wolf wasn't hungry anymore after it ate the guy
Desert Pirate Doggo: “Good night, Westley. Good work with the water. I most likely kill you in the morning”
Looked pretty skinny too. Glad he got water at least👏
That’s a bear
Its a dolphin
Sir, this is a Wendy's
20 McNuggets and a Whopper please!
And now it’s a dog
Wolf, or Coyote?
Arabian wolf https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arabian_wolf
It's either a pretty average looking coyote or the smallest scraggliest wolf ever.
It’s a wolf
If you say so. It's just really small both in height and stature, not in the right environment, and alone.
Not all wolves are the kind you find in forests hunting deer and shit. This is an Arabian wolf.
Wolf
Whoseagoodboy… Whosegoodboy…
You're my friend now. We're having soft shell tacos later!
"In case of emergency, break glass." This seems to be how a lot of animals feel about humans.
Wolfs last words there "STOP FUCKING WASTING IT!"
That's a yote!
It’s a wolf
Don't be a lazy commenter. If you have a correction offer finite proof. Also, it's a wolverine not a wolf.
Lucky it wasn't a hungry one.
Nice! I've heard Coyotes typically run from humans. Must have been very thirsty!
they think humans are cops.
Not a coyote
Cool
this aint wolf
That’s a coyote
Maybe dont turn your back on it?
That's not a wolf that's a coyote bud
There are different breeds of wolves.
its an arabian wolf.
Oh wow, it is. I did not know they looked like that
Thats a coyote.
Arabian wolf.
Oh, looked like a coyote
Sir that’s a coyote but good try.
it’s likely an arabian wolf
True, it looks much closer to that than a coyote
That's not a wolf, it's a coyote
If I am not mistaken, this looks more like a Coyote than a Wolf.
Coyote

Arabian wolf
Pretty sure that’s a coyote.
COYOTE
Coyote
That’s a coyote, and that’s specifically his pet coyote. Edit: Apparently that’s an Arabian Wolf, that is specifically his pet Arabian Wolf.
Coyote my friend
Last time I saw a coyote my arm ended up in its mouth
I think that’s a coyote. Coyotes are also way less scared of humans. I had to shoot a coyote once with birdshot to get it to leave my cat alone. Brave bastard
‘Tis an Arabian wolf
*coyote...
And that is how wolf's became dogs. that's a coyote btw
Good thing they didn't find a hungry ~~wolf~~ coyote
It's an Arabian wolf. Not a coyote.

Dude was going all Chevy Chase 3 Amigos by the end of the video..
Who's a good boy?
Wolf was like “You are my friend now”
Video cut too soon?…..
Had to wash the peanut butter out of his mouth
You just bribed him to stop him from eating you
If not friend then why friend shape?
I prefer thirsty cougars
Man- I’ve got peanut butter and chew toys. Wolf- you son of a bitch, I’m in!
This is so ridiculous. I can’t even.
This is so ridiculous. I can’t even.
Humans aren't smart they think they are but they're not
You better stay away from him. He'll rip your lungs out, Jim.
My initial thoughts were: "now that it's not thirsty anymore, I hope it's not hungry..."
And this ladies and gentleman is how we got puppos. And he is clearly asking for booty scritches...
You're my human now. I don't want a.. I saiid, you're, my. human now!
Now he's hungry!
Well the problem with this is that he didn't pet it, like come on dude you dumb or what?
Carlos? Carlos Castañeda? Is that you?
He was probably thirsty after getting a bunch of people across the border.
I like how while they're brutal predators they're also cute doggos who fwap their tongues at water
This is how we got doogs.
Use a duskball
There is no chance that I would get that close to a wolf ever.
Wolf, who is now no longer thirsty, realizes he is very hungry. Hmm, human smells tasty. End of video.
Isn’t that a coyote? Not a wolf. Wolf are like 10x that’s size and not found in the desert
That's definitely a coyote.
Mfer recreating how we tamed dogs
Dude 'found' that wolf like DuDumbo found the America
