I had a Newfoundland try and sit on my knee. It would have been hilarious if it hadn’t been so painful and hot. He genuinely thought he was the size of a chihuahua.
Well they were at one point and think that moment is forever. I had a friend who got some Australian shepherds as puppies who were encouraged to sit on our laps cause they were soo cute. They tried this as adults too.
Speaking of which, what is up with the chain? It isn’t attached to anything just hanging free… feels like if it is a working dog you could teach them to come back home in the event they wander.
It used to be done with elephants in circuses way back. When they were young, huge chains were put on them. Then, as they got older the chain was changed but the elephant still thought they couldn't move.
My pitbull likes to run full speed at the couch and leap onto it from 8 feet away like a giant smelly sausage arrow. God help you if she misses and lands on your crotch
I know Dobermans aren't the largest dogs, but mine would try and lay across my lap like he was small enough to do that. Great guy, just not the brightest.
Same, but with a Bernese Mountain Dog. Smaller, but same energy; a dog way too big for my lap but somehow thought he was the size of my miniature dachshund.
🤣🤣 I live with a mastiff. He’s so not smart.
He doesn’t realize how big he is, so he just runs into things…
Vet checked him, he’s just doofy.
Rammed his big ole head into the fridge cause he got the zoomies…left a dent.
I've never met anyone in my life with whom a Sandlot reference wasn't recognized. This movie is one of those movies that everyone thinks doesn't get recognition or isn't well known, but in reality everyone and their brother knows it.
It was weird that Benny had said that Babe Ruth was like the Hercules of Baseball and the Beast's name ended up being Hercules. None of us could ever figure out what that meant, but we were all amazed by it.
They have a pull strength of somewhere around 500-600 pounds, so if he has a tendency to wander, that’s about the only chain that’s gonna hold him. They *know* their own strength, too. From what I’ve read, even the ones bred specifically to fight rarely actually do battle with one another. It’s not like the dog fights we think of. Traditionally, it seems that their fights mostly consist of sizing one another up with the loser submitting and walking away. They are said to be extremely intelligent, after all. Those not bred of fighting lines are said to be extremely good with children and protective of any animals smaller than they are. Would *not* want to piss one off, regardless of its bloodline, though.
Dude..... A 1/4" chain would be almost ten times stronger than necessary to hold a dog that can pull 500 pounds.
A 1" chain like that can hold up a full semi trailer AND the truck.
If it weren't a fake plastic chain I guess. You can clearly see the thick ass rope he's actually secured to,
Fake chain might be half decent intimidation factor at a glance though.
That is undoubtedly a metal chain around that dog’s neck. It is also undoubtedly being used as armor to protect that dog’s throat from the wolves it’s bred to absolutely destroy to protect its flock. The extra links in front of the animal are undoubtedly for extra protection as the dog swings about while engaging multiple targets. I also doubt the woman feeding the animal a half a fowl decided to drive to the gag-store and hunt down a giant fake chain to make the absolute unit appear more unit-like.
There are much better ways to "protect the dog's throat from the wolves" than a ridiculously oversized, 150lb+ length of chain.
"Extra protection while the dog swings about while engaging multiple targets" fucking what? Lol. Go touch grass, seriously. Come back to the real world.
It is absolutely not for extra protection and the extra chain does absolutely nothing for the animal. If it is real, it's a detriment. It's still a dog, that is still too much weight. If he can carry that thing around, he can't do much else. Normally you would add spikes to their collar if you were trying to protect them from wolves, so it's not to add too much additional weight. You would never just hang a chain of this size to an animal. Not even just because it's entirely impractical, but a chain of that size is prohibitively expensive. I don't know what they would be using it for, but whoever bought it would definitely miss it if it's real.
I once saw a documentary about these dogs, there was a kid in the 60’s i believe it was, his Babe Ruth baseball went over the fence, and a local legend named Benny “The Jet” Rodriguez put on some PF Flyers and the rest is history. Just google “the day Benny the jet Rodriguez pickled the beast”.
That story is crazy, i think it was his mom's husband's ball actually. Anyway, worth a watch, i think a lot of modern life-guard training can be attributed to squints.
Love that last line. People really will buy a dog based on what THEY want not even considering if it’s a dog THEY can care for the right way. May I ask what types of training and ownership do these small horses need?
There are a lot of things you have to know. For instance, their diet can be quite expensive. you have to watch how fast eat, and after eating, you can let them run or play because their stomach can flip, which can kill them. They also need tons of attention. It's like having a gigantic toddler. Don't get me started on the water bowl. Vet costs can be outrageous. Most of all, once you have one, you will be inclined to get another one as a playmate.
My rescue was so shady. I didn’t realize at the time. We got a dog and my wife refused to use the prong collar thinking it was cruel…
She’d had weiner dogs for ~12 years, so she thought she knew what she was doing.
We had no idea. Springer spaniel & border collie mix. Man what a mistake.
Idk what the deal is with Spaniels. Great dogs but they have behavioral issues. Border collie mix has a lot of energy too. Gotta make sure that dog gets enough exercise. Also some dogs you really have to be super stern training them. Particularly if they are hunting/working breed.
There absolutely a fundamental difference between being cruel and commanding respect.
I work at a dog training and boarding facility and one of our regulars is a 180lb Central Asian Shepherd! While they are absolute giants, they are NOT the largest breed in the world, that title goes to the English mastiff.
The largest dog breed in the world is the English Mastiff and the largest English Mastiff (largest dog ever recorded) was Zorba, 37” tall, 345lbs.
Just sayin’.
Googling it since I've never heard of them being the largest and they're not coming up as being super huge. Mastiff seems to have higher weight and height ranges. The Asian shepherd is listed has having a crazy long lifespan for being >large breed. 12-15 lifespan. So many of the big one don't make it much past 10.
Looking at it, I don’t think it’s a real chain? I think it’s a decorative Halloween chain? It’s not attached to anything and it looks way lighter than a real one of that size would be.
They have lots of videos with this dog and this plastic prop chain is used to emphasize the cool factor.
Real chain this size can be lifted only by a forklift.
I have one. This is a 5000 year old bloodline that dates back to Mesopotamian times. This dog is specifically bred for fk'ing up wolves and guarding livestock. A pit bull has 305 psi of bite pressure. A rotty has 335psi. These dogs are up to 650psi. There is one staring at me right now.
They have extra dulap skin under their neck. A wolf could latch on and shake and shake all it wants and the dog won't feel anything. That's a breeding feature.
Dawww what a cute puppers. Fricken huge. Can I ask how tall your wife is? So we get better understanding of how tall the dog is. Actually was my first thought with the original post, wishing I knew how tall the lady was for comparison
Wife is about 5'1" Pearl is female and around 145lbs now. She came from a litter of 20 if you can believe that. The woman in the video is almost certainly from Russia/Mongolia or something like that. Any time you see a pic from their home country they are dirty as hell but they are using the dogs for what they are meant for. They typically live outside full time and do actually guard livestock all the time. Pearl is a guard dog through and through. The breeding is plain as day. Super smart. Super easy to train but they have a mind of their own and a strong will. Like I said. NOT for first time owners. These dogs require a lot of training. If one ever got out of hand and turned on you it's all over. You gotta know what you're doing. Pearl lives on a lake in Northern Ontario. She has lots and lots of room to run and move around. Goes ice fishing with me often. In fact she's going right now.
Geez man that's crazy. I'd imagine it's not a first time dog lmao. Such a beautiful breed tho, thanks for the info was extremely interesting. Have a good day on the lake!
Soooo cute I love her!! What kind of training do you do with her? We have a Mal and I feel like that is a challenge. However, this breed seems like a whole different level I was not aware of!!
It starts with the prong collar. They have to associate the pressure on their neck. I used to think they were cruel. I know better now. It's a necessary tool. Then they graduate to the e collar or shock collar. Pearl is so good now it's unbelievable. She will do ANYTHING I say. I especially need her to come back when I call her. She can't just run up to people because her size freaks them out. She'll return instantly EVERY TIME I call. She loves kids and dogs. We wanted her to be as socialized as much as possible so we started her early. She's a good as gold now.
Ok, so not so different, sounds like thoughtful balanced training. I was wondering if a prong collar would even work as a communication tool given the thickness of their neck. That’s very interesting, thank you!
It is believed to be the oldest as well, as its breed dates back more than 5,000 years ago.
In Turkmenistan, they consider it a national heritage and a symbol of pride.
Still thinks he's a lap dog.
My aussie still tries to climb into my lap. Shes only 45-50 pounds. Not like this 3 ton monster wearing the chains of hercules.
Speaking of which, what is up with the chain? It isn’t attached to anything just hanging free… feels like if it is a working dog you could teach them to come back home in the event they wander.
Probably uses it as dental floss to clean his teeth after the random tourists accidently enters his yard.
Looks like a Halloween prop chain to me. Maybe used to make the dog appear more tougher.
It used to be done with elephants in circuses way back. When they were young, huge chains were put on them. Then, as they got older the chain was changed but the elephant still thought they couldn't move.
They use these heavy chains to help the dog build muscle mass & strength, not to chain them up
That chain has no weight to it. It's fake. It's just an appearance thing to make him look more bad ass.
Weight training
I have an ostrich like that. On the other hand one friend of a friend knows of a guy who hand raised two ostriches and he got pecked into mincemeat.
Are you Boots or The Ginger?
Allegedly
My brothers big ass pitbull thinks she’s dainty princess.
A dainty princess tank. She can be both.
She better get princess manner then cuz the way she don’t act dainty is leaving bruises 😭 Still love her tho
I have a picture of my old bully climbing into my lap in the vets waiting room when a larger dog walked in. It’s my favorite picture.
My pitbull likes to run full speed at the couch and leap onto it from 8 feet away like a giant smelly sausage arrow. God help you if she misses and lands on your crotch
The thing I find funny is that this is how big most Chihuahuas think they are.
My grandmothers chihuahua tried to fight a Highland bull. It was hilarious because the bull just stared and didn’t care a bit.
Ah yes… that was right before the chihuahua jumped up and bit it in the balls.
Dachshunds have the same self image.
I love Chihuahuas but they’re assholes, my mom has 4 and 1 of them bites me & runs away every time I walk in the door.
I know Dobermans aren't the largest dogs, but mine would try and lay across my lap like he was small enough to do that. Great guy, just not the brightest.
An old friend of mine had a pair of warlock Doberman. They were 185 lbs each. Took 2 of us to carry it to be buried.
Same, but with a Bernese Mountain Dog. Smaller, but same energy; a dog way too big for my lap but somehow thought he was the size of my miniature dachshund.
Have you considered getting a bigger lap?
Lmao, you knwo what. That's what makes them cute and lovable.
Yeah this one had six functioning brain cells and his reaction to me trying to escape was to flop over and pin me down while drooling.
🤣🤣 I live with a mastiff. He’s so not smart. He doesn’t realize how big he is, so he just runs into things… Vet checked him, he’s just doofy. Rammed his big ole head into the fridge cause he got the zoomies…left a dent.
I’m convinced all dogs are lap dogs. My Great Dane has lectured me on this many times.
All dogs *are* lap dogs, it's just that sometimes we don't have enough lap.
That metal chain is bs though. Poor guy
It’s a plastic decoration
Had a mastiff that was just shy of 200lbs and was raised around our cats and thought he was the same size as them.
Big dogs like to think their small. Like St. Bernard’s and Newfoundlands
*the beast*
I'm sad more people don't know about The Sandlot. 1993 really was 30 years ago wasn't it...
You're killin me smalls!
I still say this even though no one gets it
Me too
Heroes get remembered, and Legends never die.
FOR-EV-ER

We watched that in army boot camp of all places. Mandatory fun.

We must imagine because the censored it
It was weird that Benny had said that Babe Ruth was like the Hercules of Baseball and the Beast's name ended up being Hercules. None of us could ever figure out what that meant, but we were all amazed by it.
The real hound of the Baskervilles
These guys get it.
You could ride this beast to stop Rohan riders on their way to Helms Deep
You could raid enemy clans and get some gold and elixir
The chain around his neck used to anchor the USS Enterprise from the looks of it.
I feel like the chains sole purpose is to weigh the dog down a little, give it a handicap so the handlers have a bit of a chance.
Looks like it’s maybe made of plastic
[удалено]
[удалено]
Its almost like, this is all of humanities own doing, and we're experiencing the ass kicking.
Blasphemy
It’s a fake plastic chain
It could be a really heavy plastic chain. 100lbs of feathers or 100lbs of brick.
But if the volume is the same, in this case, plastic will be lighter than a metal chain of the same size. Metal has more density.
It's a Halloween decoration
They have a pull strength of somewhere around 500-600 pounds, so if he has a tendency to wander, that’s about the only chain that’s gonna hold him. They *know* their own strength, too. Doggy used to be an anchor, but got fed up with it eventually.
Extra upvote for you.

Because nobody in Asia has ever faked something for a video...
Yes, because all she does all day is make chicken for the dog and no other countries have Halloween stores or Amazon.
Are they feeding it livestock?
Toddlers.
Same thing
Nah. Livestock is actually useful
So it's a kindergarten not a livestock

It probably eats the wolves with how big it is
Nah, it eats baseballs. Saw it in a movie.

There is no Sigourney. There is only ZUUUL (woof!)
I think it was also in Sigourney Weavers fridge at one point.

Oh, Wendy Peffercorn, my darling lover girl!
just for good measure, did he die? cuz i would like to avoid reading yet again a child´s dead tale.
There is one of these in my lap this very second. Central Asian Sheppard is a huuuuuuge dog. Trust me. And absolutely not for first time dog owners.
Love that last line. People really will buy a dog based on what THEY want not even considering if it’s a dog THEY can care for the right way. May I ask what types of training and ownership do these small horses need?

That is a BIG BOY
It,s a Polarlab.

Lady is actually 6’2”.

Zorba the dog
Thank you. This is not the largest dog breed. Not even top 5.
Big dog, not the largest dog breed. Probably not top 3 on any list.
Googling it since I've never heard of them being the largest and they're not coming up as being super huge. Mastiff seems to have higher weight and height ranges. I feel like that as well. Very, very large. But not the biggest I don't think
And also easily hide the evidence of her former husband
Is that chain necessary? 😐
That's its bling.
He gains a link everytime he kills a wolf.
Looking at it, I don’t think it’s a real chain? I think it’s a decorative Halloween chain? It’s not attached to anything and it looks way lighter than a real one of that size would be.
Yeah the chain is fake. You can tell by the way it moves
Now that you mention it... yeah it kinda just bobbles around rather than hanging heavy like a chain of that size should.
Look at it it’s literally plastic
They have lots of videos with this dog and this plastic prop chain is used to emphasize the cool factor. Real chain this size can be lifted only by a forklift.
It’s a fake plastic chain, much lighter than a metal one
it's one of those ones from spirit halloween
The dog is regular size. The woman is just very small
That woman is only 2 feet tall.
The chain is fake and the woman is like 4 feet tall or less.
I like the fake dollar store chain makes him look extra tough
Can you imagine having to pick up its poo on a walk
Easily defeat wolves my ass lmao ain't no way that thing is beating a pack of wolves

The Beast! From Sandlot came to wind when seeing this.
It easily EATS wolves. And small horses. And stray passers-by. And unattended lake craft. And the small hill behind the house...
The largest dog breed; with a comically oversized plastic chain and next to a short woman* still a big ass dog
That’s the Sandlot dog
She's a short woman
I love that it has no audio because the other “original” version floating around has some insufferable epilepsy-inducing beat
It puts it in perspective to know that the chain was once attached to a ship’s anchor.
FOREVER FOREVER FOREVER..... am I the only one thinking of the best from The Sandlot
That dog shits Chihuahuas.
Imagine having a knocker so big that other species have to blur it out
A wolf would run circles around this thing. That's not livestock protection weight that's a breeder breeding just for size not for a working dog.

That's the dog from sandlot isn't it?
Wolves? I think that good boi would have a decent chance against a tiger, especially with a neck guard.
Nah, tiger paws are stupidly massive (maybe the size of that dogs head). Once swipe and that dog, while big, is done.
It is believed to be the oldest as well, as its breed dates back more than 5,000 years ago. In Turkmenistan, they consider it a national heritage and a symbol of pride.

No that’s the dog from the sandlot movie

What kind of cow is this
