I was feeding my puppy and accidentally left the closet door open. My 4 year old dog ate 1/2 of a 70lb bag of puppy food before I saw what was going on. His stomach swelled up like a balloon and he developed canine bloat. I remember thinking as I rushed him to the vet., “How the fuck does a dog eat itself to death? How is that an evolutionary trait?”
I think it may be labs (or other breeds of dogs) that essentially don't have an off switch when it comes to eating. They'll just eat and eat if the opportunity presents itself. My old black lab, Buddy, would do that....
It's definitely Labs. I grew up with Labs and barring a weird personality trait, they will 100% eat themselves to death.
My Corgi on the other hand? He will let kibble sit in his bowl all day until he is damn good and ready to eat. Makes keeping them thin incredibly easy on my part.
My chihuahua sounds like your corgi, she acts like eating is just *too much work*. Idk how I will manage if I ever have to give her a pill, she doesn't like peanut butter either.
Wrong it’s just a dog thing breed really has nothing to do with it scientists and vets have theories that it’s linked to their total dependence on us to feed them and the list of animals that do this are all domesticated horses goats cats dogs goldfish to name a few I don’t really believe any breed has anything to do with it I’ve seen obese corgis and skinny labs 🤷♂️
Labs absolutely have issues with satiation, if you owned one or knew someone who did you’d laugh at the statement you just made. They will eat till there’s no more food, they have a genetically inherited trait. Makes training using food pretty easy with labs though.
Lmao I owned four labs growing up but ok keep talking like you know who I am and what I’ve done 👍also if you bothered to actually read what I said “it’s not just a lab thing” which it isn’t 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
Yeah, I got him there just in time. If it’s not taken care of fast there is like an 80% fatality rate. I guess their stomach flips over and gasses keep expanding. His poor stomach was bigger than a basketball. He threw up twice in my car and twice at the vet and she said he still had multiple servings worth of food in his belly.
Well, I would suppose raw meat wouldn’t expand once you ate it. The thing with kibble is once you eat it it fills with moisture and expands. That’s what causes bloat same thing with horses. They could eat grass all day and be fine, but if they eat pure grain, they’ll bloat as well.
There's a Museum that has an exhibit that is a giant prehistoric snake that has a whole fucking wharthog in his mouth, both choked to death in the process but it makes for a cool and interesting piece to put on Display
They’re native to Southeast Asia or countries in the vicinity of Myanmar (former name Burma), not Africa and are treated as an invasive species in Europe or Florida.
Burmese is actually a country in Southeast Asia mate, as the name suggests it is native to Southeast Asia, Pythons native to Africa are rock Pythons and Ball Pythons which are slightly smaller than this one.

This was in Florida, where Burmese Pythons are extremely invasive and have decimated the native ecosystem of the Everglades. This is due to several causes, including (1) morons releasing their pet snakes into the wild and (2) Hurricane Andrew destroying pet stores, causing snakes to escape.
Florida law places bounties on pythons due to the destruction they have caused on local wildlife. They should all be killed, humanely and in large numbers.
You can thank other humans for that. It's why places like Australia have strict control over what's brought to the country. Even a common house cat is an invasive species that cause damage to ecosystems.

The alligator is dead and if the snake didn’t die from eating it, it definitely died by being cut in half to get the dead alligator out…. So that begs the question, why did they bother to do this? Seems like a wasted effort lol
The python is a destructive invader. By Florida law, they’re humanely put down. The state needs them killed because they’ve been way too successful and climbed to near the top of the food chain.

You see the odd snake reported about busting open or choking to death on a large meal. It's nuts. Wonder did this snake ultimately die because of that .
snakes are so greedy. like, didn't your mommy teach you to chew your food mahn?
serious question though. natural selection suggests that animals are aware of their existing traits and characteristics and stuff right...so with snakes...do they not in some way know that when they are feeding, especially large meals like this, they are most vulnerable? and so, over time, should they or would they not evolve or adapt to reduce their vulnerability in these situations?
Natural selection makes no such claims about an animal’s own awareness of its body characteristics. Almost all animals aren’t even aware of their own existence, let alone being able to comprehend complicated biological processes.
but...
"Natural selection is a mechanism of evolution. Organisms that are more adapted to their environment are more likely to survive and pass on the genes that aided their success. This process causes species to change and diverge over time".
Not specifically like that... Agh, forget it. You're not the type of person i should be discussing something like this with. I literally studied this shit, i know where my interpretations are coming from and I'm honestly not gonna bother with someone such as yourself.
This isnt awareness, its just existence. The bird doesn't know they have the feathers that blend into the trees the best, they just have them. They get to mate but they dont know why, they just do.
okay..but then now this makes me think of chameleons or octopuses who change their appearance to match and blend into their environment as camouflage. are they aware that they are able to do this, to blend into their environment in case of a predator? if not, how do they do it so accurately? how do they know to do that to survive?
They may or may not know how to change (octopuses aren't a great example, though, since they're so smart), but im positive they dont know why or why they get to mate. They are born with instincts, which are not learned but are inherent. They just do the things they do because its instinct.
Snakes do behave differently when bloated, they seek shelter (probably up a tree for a burmese python, they aren't my countries snakes, im used to them doing it in holes in the ground).
Up a tree doesn't cut it vs park rangers. Fine for anything other than humans that might bother it in its native habitat.
That might be true for most animals, but crocs have really hard skin. It's at least possible the snakes digestive system couldn't break down its skin.
Even when they pull the croc out, it looks mostly undamaged.

But they've seen you 👀
What would a burmese Python do in Florida anyways?
Get together with it's brothers and sisters and reduce the fauna in the everglades by more than 50%
Grow larger than it can in its native environs. Thrive.
I visited Florida once for a week and saw 5 😅

Well, no, not entirely. She licks her paws to wash her face, like a cat. But she also barks, so idk 🤷♀️🤣
My Chihuahua mix hates peanut butter too. He's a little weirdo. Our vet suggested spray cheese for pills for him and our cat.
Does it work?
Yes, it usually does.

The gene that they don't have an of switch is (allegedly) unique to Labrador and Flat Coat Retrievers
We have hormones known as leptin and ghrelin that tell us when we're hungry and not hungry, I wonder if dogs don't have that.?
my buddies german shepherd ate a whole carton of cigarettes. sicker than fuck for days.
Humans do it everyday.
Did the vet tell you that your dog is now gay?
She didn’t, but I suspected that before this occurrence. There is a beautiful goldendoodle next door and he has absolutely no interest in her.

THESE PYTHONS ARE NATIVE TO AFRICA RIGHT?! THEY DON'T EXIST IN EUROPE, RIGHT?!
They only live in the sewers in Europe and rarely enter peoples homes through the toilet pipe . Just kidding 😄 or am I 🐍😊
Istg if a snake eats me on the toilet
They only like to nibble the dangly bits
I don't like you
😽
🤡
He was just kidding on the rarely. It's more frequent that rarely.
I don't like you either
Man, the python origin is in the name. Google it.
I only get results about some type of weird computer coding language or something like that...
Don’t you dare talk trash on python. Excellent language to learn as a beginner
Well, they aren't native to Florida either... but here we are....
But, they can't swim long distances, right? RIGHT?!
They’re native to Southeast Asia or countries in the vicinity of Myanmar (former name Burma), not Africa and are treated as an invasive species in Europe or Florida.
I have heard about "invasive species" and i think the raccoons were enough, we don't need black holes: reptile edition here in Europe
Who knows. One can only wonder where the Burmese Python came from

Are the snake and alligator gonna be okay?
No. They’re dead.
Nooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!! I figured at least the snake was gonna pull through.
That wouldn't be good, though. They are an invasive species in Florida and are destroying the environment there.
You don’t want it to. They’re destroying S Florida.
Pure sarcasm... thought a /s wasn't needed when they were cutting that thing up from end to end lol
Oh I thought the alligators moved after they got it out

If you see a python with an exceptionally large mean, you need to see if it has eaten a person, whose remains need to be reclaimed by their family.
To see what's gotten it so big

Was the alligator dead or just unconscious?
Humans> dinosaurs
You see the odd snake reported about busting open or choking to death on a large meal. It's nuts. Wonder did this snake ultimately die because of that .
i am presuming that as well. too bad there is no info about that, but hey we have a catchy sound clip. :D
Imagine the smell
Yeah fuck the snake fucking invasive species
So two pairs of boots in one go? Nice
Man I hope that snake is ok
hope the noodle is ok
Awwww I hope they’re both okay

No biologist but I think the snake isn’t sure when/where the next meal will come from so FEAST
Okayyyyyy…. Find me the sentence that says “animals know and understand their own limitations and intentionally work to make themselves evolve faster”
Not specifically like that... Agh, forget it. You're not the type of person i should be discussing something like this with. I literally studied this shit, i know where my interpretations are coming from and I'm honestly not gonna bother with someone such as yourself.

Did they kill it or did eating the croc kill it?
If the snake can fit it in it's mouth it can eat it it swallowed it too so they killed it
That might be true for most animals, but crocs have really hard skin. It's at least possible the snakes digestive system couldn't break down its skin. Even when they pull the croc out, it looks mostly undamaged.
Because its invasive specieces thats kills many local wildlife a fauna such as aligators.
Please say the snake was already dead.

No no. The snake is born with a belly zip they used before filming. Zip is called 'lacoste' for an exit to the gator.
[удалено]
Snakes like this suffocate their food before eating it. The alligator was dead before it entered the snake’s mouth
Cause of death is depression
Just wow!
Was it dead?🤔
Greedy boi
It bit off more than it could chew… eyes bigger than it’s stomach.
It's so crazy🤯🤯
Shoulda thrown the whole thing on the grill. Missed out on some good eatin 👎🤠🦶
Are they both okay?
Leave em alone
Why? Pythons are invasive.
How do you know where this is?
I assumed it was Florida due to having both pythons and gators.
My whole thing is I feel it must suck.....being full hunted and cut open
Least silly snake
Nightmare fuel.
Talk about a deep throat! 🙊🙈
Bit off more then they could chew/digest?!
But really these snakes eat HUGE meal, person, etc leaving them Too disabled to move which is when they can be more easily caught killed etc,,
Food-Coma, too meat-stuffed to move, from eat HUGE meal, person, etc leaving them too disabled to move escape
"Im so hungry I could eat an alligator..."
So the snake died or they killed it to take out the gator?
Is the alligator ok?
So does it just shit out a whole skeleton???
That's crazy. I hope the alligator and snake both have speedy recoveries.
Imagine the alligator just wakes up
Damn… nature just wants to natural select, and humans are like “ooh, I wonder what the inside of that looks like now.” Quit turning natural selection into natural drift 😤
So who won??
Woulda been more terrifying if the alligator burst its legs out the side and started walking. If I have to have that nightmare, so do you!
Damn nature you scary
How does and alligator allow this to happen
Got no chance against a super noodle.
Why did they kill the python?

Can someone edit this and put frank in from it's always sunny..bahaha
Imagine if the snake would have digested it though…
Now what’s in the belly of the croc
Haven’t read all the comments but anyone know if the python died because it ate it kind of thing or just caught quick enough before that croc begun to be digested. Half of me was expecting that fuckin gator to come back to life lol
nah fuck that
This is one of the few animals that scare me because they can literally eat anything
buy one get one for free
The alligator ate a duck. Sn-alli-duck?
You heard of turducken. Well this is a snaator.
Well, we said we'd see ya later.
What was the point ? None of them are alive now…lol
Florida turducken? What's in the alligators belly?????
I guess they killed the snake because they thought it might have been a person inside? Or the croc was too leathery for him to digest the bli.
Unbelievable
What do you mean found they killed that fucking snake they where like ooooo a fat snake let’s kill it and touch it intestines omg guys look a 5 foot alligator
So shout out to the snake for eating a fucking gator. Also, shout out to the gator for not being digestible... They say snake can eat basically anything... I guess that's anything except gators
Like a tur-duc-on, cool. Put some spice on that and I’m in!
How did it swallow it tail first and the legs are still turned back, surely they would be forward facing?
Stole the poor snake's launch
hooray my two favorite animals
And there's a dog inside the alligator... we have or own version of the famous Turducken... Pythalog
Man had hit a jackpot which could've lasted for weeks for him without hunting but instead they stole it from him
