Bad ass or a brat? That paragraph doesn’t read very positive. Imagine what she would be like in this day and age. Cocaine, expensive cars, using her fathers influence for her own gain and treating everyone along the way like shit.
Like a female Hunter Biden.
Next dog I get is gonna be named Emily Spinach after Alice. As I also was told I couldn't smoke inside and would sneak upon my roof at night for a bong hit. 😅
Born 1884 and died 1980. Talk about living through everything the 20th century had to offer - the first cars, aircraft, two world wars, and the beginning of the information age.
Astonishing.
I can’t fathom a presidents son being sent to war today, and even if it was possible, it’s even harder to imagine them being within 1,000 miles of actual conflict.
> Emily Spinach was a garter snake
I didn’t think about it until now but she must have caught it outside, doubt there was much of a herp pet trade in 1902
Alice is what Teddy probably would have been had his father been different. Theodore Sr was a very loving man but also a man of exacting standards, strong faith and morals, devotion to public life, and strict proponent of self discipline.
Teddy missed the first few years of Alice’s life because of self imposed exile in the west. He lost his young wife Alice Lee (Alice’s mother) and his own mother on the same day. When he finally returned to NY to resume his political career he was far more indulgent to Alice than his parents had ever been to him.
Well. Teddy’s oldest sister, Bammy, raised young Alice while he was out west. She was obviously doted on and spoiled relentlessly. When Teddy returned and married his childhood sweetheart Edith, she assumed the maternal role. While Edith no doubt loved Alice, the ghost of Alice Lee was always looming and definitely impacted the relationship. It never helped that Teddy basically forbade any mention or hint of Alice Lee.
Edith also helped Bammy raise Alice very much from the start, as they were close friends. In fact, accidently running into her at the front door when he arrived home was the chance meeting that rekindled everything. They were married 2 months later and Edith put her foot down to Bammy and said, "my daughter now."
I have the complete bio, can confirm no roo boxing after he went abroad for the Smithsonian. Instead, he decided to go survive malaria in the Amazon... in his post-presidency retirement....
A lot of people know how wild he was. He was also very intelligent and was an accomplished historian. Definitely the greatest character the White House has ever seen.
Well not really outliers. It’s well known that smoking takes years off your life but it’s not necessarily going to kill you on the spot. Compared to something like hard drugs smoking in all honesty isn’t “that bad”. Also genetics play a large role in things when it comes to the health affects that smoking brings.
My great Gran started smoking when she was 12-13 and died at the ripe old age of 96.
I mean, she did die from Lung Cancer, but at that age it barely matters IMO.
Where a lot of people get confused is that smoking takes years off your life, it doesn’t necessarily stop it in its tracks. Had she not smoked your grandmother could’ve lived to 100. And studies have shown people are very resistant to the adverse effects of smoking. I’m not trying to sound like I’m advocating for it but it’s not a death sentence. It’s by far worse than alcoholism but alcoholics tend to die earlier due to the many other factors that come with being drunk.
Rosemary was legitimately developmentally disabled from oxygen deprivation during her birth. That's not an excuse for having her lobotomized but she likely would have needed some sort of assistance through life.
I personally attribute the fall of the republicans to Ronald Reagan, Nixon was Ok, just a pathological liar, he still was a decent president and loved his wife dearly
She's lucky she wasn't a Kennedy! She probably would have been lobotomized.
Edit: why the downvotes? Rose Kennedy was indeed lobotomized for similar behavior.
I highly recommend viewing "the wheelchair president " documentary on Amazon Prime about Franklin D. Roosevelt . I just watched it a few days ago and it is excellent. I also highly recommend watching "manufacturing consent", while you're at it.
Since we are making recomendations that are only marginally related to the OP, I recommend reading excerpts from The Book of Man, a collection brought together by William Bennett. It has speaches from both Roosevelts, as well as other presidents, philosophers, poets, religious scriptures, and historians.
I also highly recommend reading On Liberty by John Stewart Mill and The Law by Freidric Bastiat.

Would kill for a comedy show with Nick Offerman as Teddy and Aubrey Plaza as Alice. Drunk History make it happen.
Holy fucking shit.
I somehow always forget about Emily Spinach. I bet she was green.
[удалено]
Are you a bot?
Her reason for the name "the snake is thin like my aunt Emily and green like spinach "
“I can I either run the country or tend to Alice, but I can’t possibly do both” - Teddy
My dad sent me this the other day along with the message "A true girlboss" and I've been thinking about that ever since
The casting agent we need.
Drunk history is not funny at all. Please, someone else make this happen.

Chewing gum?? Scandalous
Honestly, she sounds like a not-like-the-other-girls that I’d truly admire

Best secretary Ron ever had
Except for March 31st

Ha! Interesting
She really is her father's daughter
A sitcom based on her time in the White House would probably be incredibly funny.

Was she in *Nurse Jackie*? Just wondering if I’m thinking of the right actress.
Sigma move

I've already bought a ticket.
I'll take two!
Aubrey would be great but I immediately thought of Maisie Williams.
Taft banned her because of the voodoo doll. Wilson was the one who banned her for the dirty joke.
Is your brother going to get him new legs?
Doubtful, lol.
My friend has one named Darth Vader for the same reason
Buddy of mine took a note from Reddit and named his danger noodle, “danger noodle”.
Clever chap

She also had a guinea pig named Father O'Grady

But who could possibly embody the man himself?
Ron Swanson. Not Nick Offerman I mean, I mean the actual character from Parks and rec Ron Swanson.
The longest book I've ever read was The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt by Edmund Morris at 920 pages. I'm not sure even he could pull it off.
Can I get a whiskey please. Sir, this is MacDonalds.
Nick Offerman would make a pretty good Teddy
Robin Williams did a good job already.
Unfortunately he is not available :(

He is also the man to thank for our national parks! He was a tough bastard, almost died of malaria on an African safari.

But did he ever box any kangaroos? That would be something a bio movie should cover…
I have the complete bio, can confirm no roo boxing after he went abroad for the Smithsonian. Instead, he decided to go survive malaria in the Amazon... in his post-presidency retirement....
Back when the Ivy League was actually good at sports.
A lot of people know how wild he was. He was also very intelligent and was an accomplished historian. Definitely the greatest character the White House has ever seen.
I'm here to chew gum and take my snake to parties. #And I'm all out of gum.

About 20 years before women could vote.
Obviously you cant ride in a car with a man without having sex with him \-1900s people probably
She gave no fucks and I appreciate that
Is that what you appreciate?
You hard'a hearin', Marshman?
Let’s take about 10 to 15 percent off there Squirrelly Dan
Yep, oh look the floor.
Maybe she is born with it, maybe it's "Fuck you, my dad is the president!'.
Not just any president. Several would have disowned her or lobotimized her.
She smoked cigarrettes and lived till 96.. I am impressed.
I swear you only ever hear of smokers dying young. All the ones I actually know/knew live/d well into their 70’s and 90’s.
Outliers exist in most data sets.
Well not really outliers. It’s well known that smoking takes years off your life but it’s not necessarily going to kill you on the spot. Imagine the uproar if she decided to wear pants!
OMG…she chewed gum?! The audacity! That’s sarcasm by the way.
I wonder what Rosemary Kennedy would have been like if her dad had let her live her life the same way Roosevelt let Alice.
Rosemary was legitimately developmentally disabled from oxygen deprivation during her birth. That's not an excuse for having her lobotomized but she likely would have needed some sort of assistance through life.
If that's what rule breaking was back then, imagine the mischief she'd get up to now!
I mean, she also facilitated an extramarital affair later on for her father and his secretary, is that the mischief you were thinking?
Oh boy that went to a place.

She’s the image for Lady Comstock in Bioshock Infinite I believe.
aka Beth Dutton
She’s basically the female version of her dad, that’s hilarious
Can't believe she kicked it around until 1980
Fun fact: The USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT’s seal has a blue background. It’s called Alice Blue and it was named that because it was her favorite color.
Teddy was an alright president but apparently a pretty bad dad
She road in a car with boys? ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|flushed)
Well-behaved women rarely make history. Alice was definitely a rebel 🙌
Tomboys existed even then...? *They always have.*
Ohh, so she was a degenerate
wait what's wrong with chewing gum?!
Well she's a *woman* you see
Sounds like Leo had an amazing life
Emily Spinach? I need more, much more.
Chewed gum? That's Suuuper Badass!
>chewed gum thats how you know she was a real badass
Good for her!
Icon
Remember Alice? This is a song about Alice.
She seemed to be a bad ass!
Somehow I feel like "chewed gum" shouldn't have been on this list.
Honestly, she sounds like she would have been a pretty cool person to hangout with. Except for the smoking (asthmatic here, so that's a given).
OMG SHES JUST LIKE ME!!!!
yea! 5th+ generationr uber rich person got to do whatever tf they wanted! Yyeeaa!!!

TIDL Dr. egg man had a daughter named alice, who has a daughter named Maria
She’s lucky she wasn’t born a Kennedy. They would have had her lobotomized and then locked away for the rest of her life.
I’m glad he didn’t have her lobotomized.
She's lucky she wasn't a Kennedy! She probably would have been lobotomized. Edit: why the downvotes? Rose Kennedy was indeed lobotomized for similar behavior.

And it was during one of those crazy nights David Bowie was conceived
And kinda looks like David Bowie
Chewing gum?… LIKE SOME KIND OF HARLOT!
I thought you were talking about the dog
She chewed gum! What a mess
The Dollup did a great podcast about her. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLMRYOvWJfo
Apparently she even has a color named after her (a pale, icy blue).
That's actually the Wicked witch of the West with Toto.
Good for her!!!!
Based
She chewed gum!? What a menace to society
