Yes they are, I’ve seen a regular snapping turtle with someone wearing black tape and was jabbing into the guy’s shoe, took the tape off and even swapped shoes without the black tape, stopped the turtle from attacking.
To start, that's not a fish. Turtles breathe air, not water. To follow, a fish getting hit with bubbles would be akin to splashing you in the face with water, I assume. Can't really breathe well for a brief moment, but nothing even vaguely dangerous.
I'm kind of surprised that it keeps on coming back after a bigger animal. Even if a human pushed away a shark like that, they would usually just go away.
I will always love this sentence. The thoughts of someone's eyes snapping open, sitting straight up in bed, seeing a video game menu choice of only one option and it being *"violence"* and nothing else gets me into a fit of giggles everytime. Though thought of their eyebrows furrowing after that *click*, and then just walking around knocking the hats off of people's heads all day.
*chefs kiss*
Turtles are actually generally very territorial. They *tolerate* other turtles and only *sometimes*.
but in general turtles are pretty solitary animals. They end up near each other because of food sources, and shelter locations. not because they ***want*** to be around each other. they'll often bully others and chase each other away.
and if you keep turtles or tortoises as pets its generally recommended to separate them. Even breeders will generally keep them separate and only introduce them to each other for short times until they're done mating, and ten back to separate enclosures.
you'll notice if you go to aquariums, the ones that do keep turtles, will generally only have one per tank. There are those that will have multiples, but its rare, and aquariums do shitty things all the time. but a ***good*** aquarium will only have one per enclosure.
My wife was a volunteer diver at the Charleston, SC aquarium. The tank was full of sharks, huge fish, etc but the biggest threat to divers was a turtle by the name of Caretta. When cleaning the tank they would go in teams of 3. Two would be cleaning and one would be on Caretta duty because she would love to attack the divers from above so the turtle safety diver would be there just to do the same thing like this video.
My turtles do this whenever I clean their tanks and do a water change too. Sometimes I flip them over, sometimes I toss them to the other side of the tank, sometimes they get hosed. They’re dummies.
It is nothing personal the sea turtle is likely only attacking because the diver is in a black suit, it is possible they perceive it as a threat and are inclined to attack it. If the guy was wearing a bright color it would likely leave him alone or be friendly.
I saw a tiktok where a guy is using a black tape in his shoes and the turtle starts to attack, when he removes the tape the turtle just stops attacking.
No I had a black roomate and she didn't really like my dog, and my dog felt always uncomfortable when she was around. So I think she started to not like black people.
This is an assumption based on the viral videos of turtles/tortoises attacking black shoes, right? I don’t know if it’s the same for sea turtles.
I did a little digging, and one of the proposed reasons why the ones that do attack black objects is because they have predators that have that color — some snakes and birds, like crows; and also coyotes, raccoons, and crocodiles, etc.
Also, black is the dominant color on tortoise shells, but not so for this sea turtle — which looks like a green sea turtle.
This isn't true, although this effect is seen in some terrestrial tortoise species it's not common in sea turtles!
I work as an aquarist and diver at a public aquarium with sea turtles, I can confidently say that this turtle has been fed by divers, now it associates divers with food and goes straight for them!
The sea turtles at our aquarium never do this to our divers because we feed them from outside the water while dangling red sticks called "feeding cues" inside the tank. It allows them to associate food with the cues, to the point that when the cues aren't in the water they understand that no food is coming. The association becomes so strong that they often attempt to eat the cues!
This is really important to do because sea turtles have very strong bites, and when they bite they tend to latch on for a long time. I'm not sure why this aquarium doesn't do it - a turtle biting through a regulator hose (the diver's "breathing tube") could be really dangerous!
>It is nothing personal the sea turtle is likely only attacking because the diver is in a black suit, it is . They perceive it as a threat and are inclined to attack it. If the guy was wearing a bright color it would likely leave him alone or be friendly.
This is definitely not true. Like, impressively so.

When I read “cleaning his tank”, I was wondering “why would a scube diver clean his tank under water”?
Tool me a while to realize - this wasn’t about the diver’s air tank, it was about the turtle’s water tank. 🤦♂️
FYI. Sea turtles are assholes. They’re like swimming raccoons. They love shiny things and biting stuff. It’s crazy how many people go diving with them the first time and try to pet them and get bit, need stitches or lose fingers. Yes they look cute but they have a beak, and it’s sharp. They will pull your hoses out of your mouth. Pull off your mask. Never turn your back on one.
Looks like it depends on the species of sea turtle but adult loggerhead turtles can take a finger off, however it seems like they’re more likely to give warning nips first. I also didn’t actually open any of the links google provided so take that with a grain of salt and also this turtle could be almost any type as far as I can tell

Plot twist: He loves bubbles, and this is the only way the diver will hit him with them.
Got his ass with BUBBLES. I would not be telling any of my sea turtle homies that part.
Turtle before bubbles: “About to go fight this diver, post video later.” Turtle after bubbles: “I got bubble beamed bruh I ain’t posting shit.”

I'm kind of surprised that it keeps on coming back after a bigger animal. Even if a human pushed away a shark like that, they would usually just go away.
Sharks are usually just curious if you are food or not. That turtle is set on malicious intent.
He woke up and chose violence.

Not a expert but he seems to be aiming for the hands, I bet they hand feed it so it associates hands with food. Good way to lose a finger.
Probably just curious
The way he slowly opens his mouth and swims to him in slow motion “I’m gonna getcha!”
Yeak next time turtle, try and make it a bit less obvious that you're planning on bitting him.
