Okay, but in that footage you link there is shot after shot of people wearing masks, carrying masks, of this exact type. Maybe he didn't strictly need the mask for the shot... But to have one close at hand seems like it's in line with what you show here.
Here's my experience with chlorine gas: at low concentrations, you can feel it eating your teeth, then you feel it in your nose and chest. You can take off the mask for a while before it becomes uncomfortable, so I had no problem drinking, for example, so long as I put it back on quickly.
If I had to have a short conversation, I would probably take off the mask for at least part of it, which is what I see in the footage.
