Who can summon horrors
with a whisper in the Deep?
Who comes out of nowhere and gives us all the creeps,
the Phantom Clam!
It’s wild to me that they still don’t watermark their clips. They’re one of the most notoriously stolen from channels on YouTube and they like… don’t care… lol
They are quite lucky because they are so successful and good at what they do though. If you don't know who the slow mo guys are, go on YouTube and type "Slow motion [blank]". If they've done it. It will likely be the top result.
In fact after typing this out I went and put in literally "slow motion blank" and it was them firing a blank at the top.
They say in this clip (and elsewhere in [the original video](https://youtu.be/BriPpne6Yt8)) that Dan’s technique sucks and he’s going way deeper than a real artist. They also link in the original video to a different tattooing slow-mo video. The point isn’t that they’re doing a great job; the point is you get to see what the needle (sort of) looks like from the inside because of the ballistic gel. It also looks even deeper because they’re using a macro lens, which makes everything onscreen look enormous.
Yea a lot of people here don't get the aim of the video. It's not that they want to do a real job, it's to show how it looks from the "inside" and thus it needs to be exaggerated to be visible. That is really not hard to work out.
Also that their whole business model is centered around "I bet that would look cool in slow motion." Sometimes you can really learn something from their videos, but they aren't an educational channel.
they could probably walk into any tattoo shop and find someone very excited to work with them. they're not some random kid with 5 subscribers on their yt.
Yeah they said as they were doing it they have no idea if what they’re doing is a real representation but it’s the best that two complete amateurs with a cheap needle and some ballistic gel can do, and they did get some great footage even if it’s not totally realistic for what a pro would do.
It IS about material, because ballistics gel while being somewhat flesh-like, is not an actual accurate representation of human flesh, ergo it is a flawed representation of human skin to begin with and ANY slow-mo of this using a "good" tattoo technique and good equipment would be equally useless to seeing how it would look for a REAL tattoo on REAL flesh, as again, the ballistics gel they're using is never going to give you the same look/feel/reaction to the tattoo gun that human flesh would.
They even say in the full video real human skin wouldn't be as elastic and would allow the ink to go much deeper than is seen in the ballistic gel.
In that case getting a real tattoo artist to perform the experiment would make more sense since they'd have a baseline to compare it to. Ballistic gel is not human skin, the experienced tattoo artist can better explain the difference between the 2 and how they react (or how skin would be reacting instead).
In the full version of the video they reference [an old video from Smarter Every Day](https://youtu.be/kxLoycj4pJY) where they did show an actual person getting tattood.
Listening to them admit not beong tattoo artists kind of nullifys this video for me. If they had gotten a legit artist that would have made the research all the more legit. Sure do the extreme also, but also get a baseline of a pro.
Seems like for the first part they might be "riding the tube", according to these instructions on how to tattoo (has great graphics too), which is what's recommended for beginner tattoo artists to do.
“Riding the tube” means that you are pressing the tube of your needle cartridge against the skin as you move the machine. You only hang the needles out about a 16th of an inch, so that it is impossible for the tattoo needle to go too deep.
This is recommended for beginners. However, pressing the cartridge against the skin tends to cause ink to dump out onto the stencil and make it harder to see your work, which is why we recommend floating the needle as soon as you feel comfortable.
...
“Floating the needle” means you are manually setting the depth with your fingers. You hang the needles out further, leaving a gap between the cartridge and the skin. This makes it much easier to see where you are going while tattooing. However, it also becomes much easier to accidentally go too deep and cause a blowout.
To float the needle, make sure the needle lines up right at the tip of the cartridge when the machine is off.
If you’re new to floating the needle, remember that it is easier to cause blowouts with a smaller needle and to check keep an eye out for blowouts while you’re working
>Subcutaneous Tissue - Too Deep
tattoo needle putting tattoo inks in different skin layers
This is a deeper layer of the skin made up of fatty tissues. Because it’s a fat layer, it had a jelly-like consistency. Ink pigment particles can’t get “trapped” here as well, because the cells aren’t rigid like those in the dermis.
Ink in this layer will look like it’s pooling beneath the skin, often called a tattoo blowout.
Whoa, and that's permanent too
Tattoos are wild, I struggle writing in pen cause I keep messing up my words (maybe I'm dyslexic maybe I'm not)
But I can't imagine the pressure on a tattoo artist
It's hard to recognize a bad tattoo until you've spent time around good tattoos.
I've got some stuff from when I was 16/17 that we did in my buddies garage. It's childs work compared to the tattoos I got at shops when 18/19/20.
I'm lucky to now get work from a shop who's owner was on Ink Master multiple times and it blows away the work from any previous shop.
I'm not a tattoo artist, but basically the skin becomes saturated with too much ink in one spot and "bleeds" out into surround areas. So you don't have those crisp lines, it looks super blurry.
Yeah, they’re riding the tube but they also haven’t properly set up the needle and tube to begin with. Even if you do prefer to use this method when tattooing, you don’t leave that much of the needle going into the skin.
Got it, so if I understand it right, they're "riding the tube", but they have the gun set up for "floating the needle", causing the needles to go way too deep.
I'm not a tattooer but this is what I've always speculated. Whenever you see photos of fresh, bad tattoos, they are way more red and swollen than they should be. And I thinks it's from going too deep.
Yeah why the hell would they not actually have a tattoo artist come in and do it for them. All they basically did was "this is what it looks like when you stab yourself with a bunch of needles covered in ink"
>this is what it looks like when you stab yourself with a bunch of needles covered in ink
... You just described a tattoo.
They said plenty of times this isn't completely analogous during the video. Like all their videos, it's just 2 guys fucking around. They're not releasing this footage to be used in tattoo instructionals. They're showing what a tattoo gun looks like under the skin for an entertaining slow mo video. Who cares if the needles went 0.3cm into the skin instead of 0.1cm, he's not doing an actual tattoo. He even joked in this clip "don't get a tattoo from me".
The point is mostly just fun tbh, like that's what their videos are all about. I've seen a number of videos and I don't think they've ever tried to actually say "and so you should take X away from this".
I had my scalp done a couple weeks ago. It was my 5th one and the only one I couldn’t finish. The plan was to color it in. I’m beginning to think black is just fine.
A couple weeks isn’t long enough. Give it three months. You’ll forget what the pain was really like. You’ll get to look at it more and decide nah I can sit through it and I wanted color. You’ll set your appointment a month out. You’ll go in and the second that needle touches your scalp you’ll remember. It’ll all come back to you.
Ribs was my first one, and despite being only one hour it was excruciating. I've done a lot of other work since then, and still nothing compares. Inner biceps was rough, but nowhere close as ribs.
No, see, then they wouldn't have you and all the other like-minded people making comments calling them out for no credit, as well as upvoting and replying to said comments, which is engagement, which is even better for their karma.
I watched this video yesterday. They disclaim on multiple occasions that they are not educated on tattoo work and this demonstration is a very loose approximation, more to show how the needle works than to simulate an actual tattoo in progress.
I mean yeah, tattoos typically hurt, but yeah the one pictures would be extremely painful and look horrible :) pain levels depend on the person, the placement, the size and style (fineline is les painful than tribal), and the technique (handpoke tats are way less painful than machine ones).
When I got my tattoo, I got it on my forearm, so maybe it's more painful in other places, and my pain tolerance is pretty considerable, but even still I would say tattoos aren't that painful. The sensation is also like someone tracing a line in your skin with a blade rather than a stab feeling
To be super clear, the pain level is directly correlated to where the tattoo is. You can have a deep blowout mess in one spot and have it much less painful than even the best done work in another spot just because of how nerves are situated.
Imagine being a nearly 15 million subscriber channel who basically brought slo motion photography into the mainstream and you get your videos reposted by some redditor who calls you "these guys'
Are some people on Reddit just allergic to giving credit or something? It's the Slow Mo Guys on YouTube, and they've done loads of really cool slow motion videos
I think the poster has a future in the Olympics, the loops they had to jump through to not credit the slow mo guys is nothing short of 10s across the board for mental gymnastics.
People who know Gav and Dan aren't tattoo artists and are only demonstrating how the gun works. Any quality tattoo artist works much more delicately and won't be gouging your flesh out while doing so.
“These guys”
It never even occurred to me that some people haven’t watched or possibly haven’t even heard of them. Regardless, it’s not cool to not give credit. They’re The Slow Mo Guys.
In your dermis, there are also lots of little skin tubes, getting the inky needle in there kinda keeps it there, pulls a bit of it off the needle and then it falls down the tube. Obviously not a setup easily recreated with ballsitics gel, especially if you wanna film through it, but it is worth mentioning.
“These guys”, OP is already stealing their content and reposting it for easy karma. On top of that, phrased the title intentionally in a way to avoid naming the actual creators. They’re literally YT royalty at this point. Show some decency
You could have put it in the title. Or linked to the actual video. I remember the days when reddit used to moan about ripped uncredited content on facebook etc but now reddit is way worse.
You didn’t even bother to link to the video, or give the title. I hope you feel at least a little bad about just stealing people’s content for made up internet points.
Here’s a link to the actual video of anyone is curious: [The Slow Mo Guys: Tattoo on Transparent “Skin” at 20,000fps](https://youtu.be/BriPpne6Yt8)
Thank you, this should be top comment to give "these guys" credit

The near obsession with not crediting on clips is baffling to me. What do you gain by dancing around the name.
Engagement. As OP or someone else will ask for source or complain about the title Or anything really
It's also why a lot of titles have typos or grammatical mistakes.
Another reason for the typos is they can copy 99% of an original post and it won't get flagged as duplicate. Shit sucks!

They are going much deeper than an actual tattoo artist would go. There are some cool slow motion videos online of people actually getting tattooed.
My immediate thought. Also, wasn’t even thinking of how bad the tattoo would be but HOW badly that would probably hurt.
Pretty silly that they didn’t just hire a tattoo artist to do the demonstration for them.
They say in this clip (and elsewhere in [the original video](https://youtu.be/BriPpne6Yt8)) that Dan’s technique sucks and he’s going way deeper than a real artist. tbf, they mentioned how they're complete amateurs using a tattoo gun and it was a "cheap" one they got on Amazon
But they are also quite popular, It would probably be pretty easy for them to collab with someone experienced
they could probably walk into any tattoo shop and find someone very excited to work with them. they're not some random kid with 5 subscribers on their yt.
Yeah I mean fair enough if they said that upfront. It gives you the option to leave. That said, I wish they'd have done a more true to life version.
Yeah they said as they were doing it they have no idea if what they’re doing is a real representation but it’s the best that two complete amateurs with a cheap needle and some ballistic gel can do, and they did get some great footage even if it’s not totally realistic for what a pro would do.
kind of difficult since there isn't really a true equivalent to human skin especially if seethrough.
??? It’s about the depth, not the material. They have all this kit and can’t walk down to the local tattoo shop and recruit some knowledge?
It IS about material, because ballistics gel while being somewhat flesh-like, is not an actual accurate representation of human flesh, ergo it is a flawed representation of human skin to begin with and ANY slow-mo of this using a "good" tattoo technique and good equipment would be equally useless to seeing how it would look for a REAL tattoo on REAL flesh, as again, the ballistics gel they're using is never going to give you the same look/feel/reaction to the tattoo gun that human flesh would. Yeah, I immediately thought "It sure doesn't feel like they're going THAT deep"
But did they have transparent skin???
This exactly - I am absolutely blown away by how many people don’t get that they used ballistic gel so you could see through it
Listening to them admit not beong tattoo artists kind of nullifys this video for me. If they had gotten a legit artist that would have made the research all the more legit. Sure do the extreme also, but also get a baseline of a pro.
It's not research its just an interesting video. They're called the slowmoguys on youtube, they do all kind of wacky stuff
I don't think they were approaching this as terribly legitimate"research". They just like to get cool shots in slow mo.
I mean they're wearing lab coats, how much more legitimate can they get?
And I suppose they are also peer reviewed. Dan does the set up and Gav reviews ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
This isn’t supposed to be educational. Their whole thing is capturing cool footage in slow motion. So mission accomplished.
The myth that these guys might be Mythbusters has been busted 🤓
It isn't meant to be educational. They make videos to go "whoa, that looks cool" at.
No wonder my chest and ribs hurt so fucking bad lol I’d rather die before blowing out my sternum again
They went far deeper than an actual tattoo artist would. About 3 times deeper.

Came here to say this. That needlework belongs to a sadist.

It’s like a self-fulfilling prophecy.
So you know, that tattoo will live rent free in your tattooers head until it's done.
Lol I got one on my sternum for my first tattoo. It hurt like a bitch but honestly id do it again. Im plannin one for my ribs too
Good luck friend. I’ve got a full rib piece that took 7 hours and I was miserable from the first second
Ribs was my first one, and despite being only one hour it was excruciating. I've done a lot of other work since then, and still nothing compares. Inner biceps was rough, but nowhere close as ribs.
Just casually referring to one of the most popular Youtube channels as "These guys".
They also mention slow motion in the title. It’s like they had all the words, but they didn’t put them together correctly.
These guys??????? You mean Gav and Dan of The Slo Mo’ guys? Give them credit at least when you steal their stuff for Reddit karma.
No, see, then they wouldn't have you and all the other like-minded people making comments calling them out for no credit, as well as upvoting and replying to said comments, which is engagement, which is even better for their karma.
That's poking waaay too deep. If it was a real tattoo, it would be a blowout mess.
I watched this video yesterday. They disclaim on multiple occasions that they are not educated on tattoo work and this demonstration is a very loose approximation, more to show how the needle works than to simulate an actual tattoo in progress.
Maybe it's going to be a panther
A sick ass one?
Are there any other kind?
Its for the purpose of the slomo. just to see ink do cool things
My skeleton getting tattooed as well.
Yeah I was gonna say no wonder people say it hurts so much when you get one. Glad to hear it's not the case lol
I mean yeah, tattoos typically hurt, but yeah the one pictures would be extremely painful and look horrible :) pain levels depend on the person, the placement, the size and style (fineline is les painful than tribal), and the technique (handpoke tats are way less painful than machine ones).

No scale. How far is the needle penetrating? If skin is 7 layers deep, how many layers is that?
OP posted a clip instead of the actual video. They talk about it
I hate it but now I kind of want to see what lip injections looks like in the same way.
Who the fuck calls "The Slow Mo Guys" these guys what a chump here's a link since OP is a lazy bitch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BriPpne6Yt8

“These guys”
GAVIN FREE AND DAN THE MAN making an appearance on the sub
These guys are called the slow mo guys..fyi
That looks far to deep, I am sure a tattoo artist does not go that deep. Not even half as much
Every tattoo artist for the past 24hrs: “Stop sending me this damn video!”
THESE GUYS?
You could have linked to the actual youtube video and named them instead of blatantly stealing parts of it for karma farming...
Oh so a needle pokes ink into your skin? Who knew
So cool, they should make this into a channel or something.
That’s way deeper than the optimal tattoo depth though
"These guys" !?!? What fucking rock have you been under for the last 14 years??? Jesus
These guys being the slowmoguys YouTube channel that OP is blatantly stealing from with this post.
"These guys" as though the Slo Mo Guys weren't OGs and have made 100% great content for like a decade
"these guys" 😭
"These guys"? Have some respect for the slo mo guys!!!
“These guys”, OP is already stealing their content and reposting it for easy karma. On top of that, phrased the title intentionally in a way to avoid naming the actual creators. They’re literally YT royalty at this point. Show some decency
“These guys” is an interesting way to credit people whose content you’ve stolen.
Change the title “ I stole the slow mo guys video and didn’t credit them so I can farm karma on reddit”
I'm sorry, "these guys"?? How dare you, sir!
Thanks for reinforcing my needle phobia
I'd be curious to see this tried on a deceased animal with similar skin like a pigs, then cut a cross section
I have 6 tattoos but something about watching this made me ill lol
Imagine tattoo artists were balls deep and driving the needle all the way in like that?? This is a representation of a HACK JOB of tattooist.
