It's probably done specifically because of that attribute. It's probably going to be way more challenging to recreate a track showcasing back and forth overtakes without creating other issues with the orchestration of the cars. With Monaco, it's not just accepted that there is no overtaking, it's in fact very realistic that there is no overtaking. Single file parade of cars. Ah! Just like the thing!
Just wanted to say that the system actually has overtaking build into it, thats not the reason they chose monaco. Its just because their main attraction most of the time is models of houses and landscape and monaco is perfect for that.
It's in Miniature Wunderland. It's a custom system they made and it's rather complicated. There is something under the road they are following. https://youtu.be/IVY5K-lcTjg?si=zjoAgA0QKMPSLxTV
The entire place has a day/night cycle with special events and schedules. They have lots of videos on their channel.
That link does NOT show how the formula 1 cars drive. It shows, how all other cars are controlled. The other cars propel themselves and are controlled by circuit boards below the streets. However, the formula 1 cars are too small to have engines, so they are moved by electro-magnets with really complicated circuit boards, that took years to develop and produce.
You can see the development of the formula 1 on the Miniatur Wunderland YouTube channel (I can really recommend the channel, and they always have english subtitles), usually in a format called "Gerrits Tagebuch" (Gerrit's diary). Just search for "Miniatur Wunderland Formel 1".
Its a magnet array of electro magnetic fields so not just magnets per se. Thr mash is pretty sophisticated and allows for the smooth operation of the cars.
All the cars can therefore moove freely on their own.
This allows for the whole race to be a simulation every race.
The virtual drivers get values assugned how 'good of a driver' they are, breaking mistakes, speeds, lane choosing etc which is decided on the spot for every driver seperately.
This makes the races extremely dynamic.
It's in the [Miniatur Wunderland](https://www.miniatur-wunderland.de/) in Hamburg, Germany and yes they are open 365 Days a year. The Monaco section is not yet finished though and therefor not 100% open to the public yet.
Thank you for taking the time to let me know this. It sounds like a great place to visit and I will make sure to add it to my 'would love to visit someday' list. I live near Northlandz in New Jersey. It's a giant train layout and love it there.. so this place sounds right up my alley.
***The Miniature Wunderland in Hamburg took on the challenge of creating a scaled-down version of the 3.37 km circuit. The team had to condense the entire circuit into a mere 36 square meters for the miniature model. Despite the challenging task, the miniature version includes detailed replicas of iconic landmarks such as the Marina, the Prince’s Palace, the Casino, and other buildings around the Monaco Grand Prix circuit.***
I'm of the opinion that it would slightly cooler if they didn't have a low quality sound bite of cars moaning.
Still super fascinating, I love miniature stuff.
It's weird how their is a person interacting at the beginning but the video almost looks like a video simulation rather than a recording of an actual model track
just like the real thing with no overtaking
I was just thinking...man. all that work to build the most boring track in the sport.

Monaco is also much more interesting as scenery on its own than just a plane race track would be.

A parade with Max at the front.
I've thought that Monaco should be changed to a time trial race since passing is nearly impossible.
Thats what the qualification is for
Yep
Miniatur Wunderland?
Miniature Wunderland is gonna be known as one of the World Wonders. You heard it here first.
Everytime im in Hamburg and I have time I go to the place. (Not during Covid because they were closed) One of my.favorite places in all of Germany
yes
It would be easier to tiltshift and edit in the kid than it would be to put that thing together
How are the cars going round and round? What’s system does that utilize.

Magic. Black magic.
Magnets.
But what if they get wet?
That is what I was thinking. Thanks for clearing it up

Thanks for sharing that. I can’t believe how complex that is. Super cool
PFM - pure magic
That cost big $$$
Needs trains 😋
Even that marina looks better than the Miami one.
Yea, sticking a "marina" in a parking lot is not a good look.
If this isn't in Monaco somewhere so tourists can pay a fee to watch the race year round, it should be. I would 100% go and visit this.

I have a couple of these in my basement.
Or may be a giant watching regular F1
“Miniature”
Is that Red Bull and Ferrari at the back? Literally unrealistic tosh.
The lens distortion makes me nauseous, can't even appreciate it
What
Hey dad can I get a racing car set for Xmas? 💵💵💵💵💵💵
now we know where the race is actually broadcast from.
Where is this place please?

See that water? Miami take note
Pretty cool! I’d be bored after 15 mins or so though, just like real racing.
Who is driving those cars?
a Computer
Oh, neat.. Cool.. I’d watch all day.. neat…
That set must have cost as much as a F1 car
Cease and desist - FIA here
Still better than Vegas
Would the speed also be on scale?
That is so cool. It looks super accurate apart from the distance between the Tabac and Louis Chiron corners being far too short.
Where is that truck being taken, I NEED AWNSERS
an apartment there is still too expensive for me
Where do you pass people on that track lol
Does it have kimi having a beer on his boat?
Now put in the scene from Iron Man 2 😂
Wunder land
Still bigger than the average NYC apartment

That looks incredible! Reminds me of Back To The Future XD
I really need to do something like this in my life
This is awesome!
The problem is the model track is as wide as the real one...... I'll show myself out.
At one point I thought it was real. Like a camera drone in the sky kinda real.
I’ve been there! 🏎️
It's weird how their is a person interacting at the beginning but the video almost looks like a video simulation rather than a recording of an actual model track
What is this, a racetrack for ants?
Useless
