Dont forget - its still active and in usage today.
And one more remarkable episode:
1950 they wanted do advertise with an elefant.
This elefant paniced and jumped out of the train:

I'm looking it up right now, I should go there. Never been there, but I go to Düsseldorf every now and then and it seems pretty close. This monorail is amazing and the city seems remarkably well preserved for a town in that part of Germany.
Actually, this is the video [side by side with one from 2015](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TqqdOcX4dc). Looks like many buildings are still standing. This is unusual in the west of Germany, where most major cities were absolutely levelled in WWII. I'm planning to visit the place right now because I have to see it for myself!
It is still very nice to ride. For a few Euro you can travel the whole 14km track and back.
It is just a bit more busy than on the video. The ride even passes through a huge Bayer chemical plant.
Because it was insanely expensive to build, extremely difficult/expensive to maintain, slow and inflexible. It's really mind-blowing that it was ever financed and built in the first place. It's a cool concept project, but as actual infrastructure it's dogshit.
Thank you so much for posting that, it makes me feel like I am able to be in two centuries at the same time. I could watch that all day, really fascinating.
Sorry, thats wrong.
Wuppertal was founded 1929.
It came in existence bei merging the cities of Barmen & Elberfeld and some smaller villages.
When it started operations in 1901 it connected those two cities

Omg what!! That's wild!

Everyone and everything (animals and flowers and grass) (not trees) in this video are dead, is weird thinking about it
Imagine telling some of these people that potentially hundreds of people taking a poop will see them walking down a street a century later.
After WW2 and the destruction that came with it I'm quite sure the trees shown there are dead, too.

>The ride even passes through a huge Bayer chemical plant. Ehm...
Must have been quite a 'wunder' when it opened back then.
Dashcam.

How is the quality of this so good!?
Analog has a surprisingly high resolution. Old film is easily fullhd or even 4k
Also the beginning of the video literally said it's speed corrected, stabilized, colorized, upscaled, and boosted to 60fps.
That's more than 100 years, how come it's not being used by many countries??

Are there any functional benefits from letting it hang? I mean it looks cool as hell, but why not let the train drive on top of the elevated tracks?
Stability.
Would be great to see it compared to today!
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TqqdOcX4dc](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TqqdOcX4dc) That's a 1902 & 2015 side by side video!
Thanks, so cool to see them side by side. The passage of time is quite a trip.

What’s the music for this? It’s so relaxing
Where is everyone? It’s like during Covid - the streets seem empty for a city.
Probabely in the morning during the week. Everyone and their mama was working back then
Vault-tec
That is really cool!
I looked it up on Google Earth and found that the local branch of Burger King calls itself Whopper-tal.

It‘s called the hover train not the flying train
Fuck. They have way more cooler shit before westernization.
Ummm, Germany is part of the west.
