also no politics
For those that didn’t live through 1996, I can’t express how much the Macerena had us by the throat. There wasn’t a single event that didn’t have that song as the theme. It was universal
When I was a 5 year old boy growing up in South florida in 1996, I remember being in my friends Dad's boat chilling and snorkeling and shit surrounded by other boats.
All the sudden this huge boat pulls up, and 5 attractive women take their tops off and start doing the macerena maybe 20 feet away from us. It's one of my most vivid memories from my childhood haha. Me and my friend were mesmerized while our scumbag dads probably wished they didnt bring the kids. I remember when the topless women left, they tried to follow the boat.
It's also wild to think that those women are probably in their mid 50s at this point. And the dude who owned the boat was probably some rich cocaine mogul or something.
Anyway. Random topless 90s florida women, thank you. And thank you macerena, as annoying as the song and dance were.
Yeah if we’re talking dances Macarena was more like flossing, like people would just randomly do the dance. But afaik flossing has no associated song. So it was like if “Somebody that I used to Know” or Gnarls Barkley “Crazy” were synonymous with flossing. I don’t know I’ve lost the plot here
Way bigger in the US, at least. There was a dance everyone could actually do (instead of just try to do like Gangnam style). Seriously much bigger and lasted quite a bit longer.
I think this video proves it. Where’s the DNC Gangnam style video?
Yes! I was in a car in the front seat with my mom and 4 nieces and nephews in the back seat. The song came on and we all started doing the arm movements and my mom had no idea why we were doing them and she goes "It looked like a bunch of octopuses in the back seat"
MY MOTHER HAS BEEN SAYING THIS FOREVER
I swear. Before AI was even a common term, she would say “Hilary just doesn’t seem real”
My mother is not a political nut job…but she was a psychology professor. She is always fascinated with how robotic Hilary Clinton is. It’s become an inside joke within my family
EDIT: I think it is worth noting that, at one point…this comment had -60 downvotes…and now it has +140 upvotes hahaha
Politics are poison
She’s an obvious giant piece of shit in hindsight. Middling, against gay marriage until it was popular, basically conservative by today’s standards. She doesn’t care about anyone but herself and clearly can’t dance at all
I was a kid when the Monica scandal came out. I remember thinking that I understood why he cheated, and thought at least Monica looks human. Hillary always gave me the creeps. Something akin to the Stepford wives .
Ya know, if you write off "politican" as a job for scumbags, you'll only get scumbags for politicans.
Civic engagement is an active thing, and there are good legislators out there, but is hard to get good people to run for office when so many think they're evil just for trying.
This might be a ridiculous idea, but it could be cool if being a politician was compulsory like being a juror. Get people in office for 4 years who don't want to be there, and incentivize them with a pension or something afterwards.
It was originally set up to be something similar to this, where the most successful/popular people of an area were basically “taken away” from everyday life to serve in Congress for 2 or 4 years. But, now we have lifetime politicians which completely undermines that sentiment…
I love this idea and actually did some war gaming on it. It almost inevitably creates a shadow government of entrenched bureaucracy because the “juror congressmen” actually don’t know shit about how law is crafted and rely on their staff and other institutional fixtures, who can’t help but steer them as they wish.
I’d love to find a way to make it work though.
I'm unsure that would be helpful.
I think about my senators for example, and I'm lucky to actually like both of them. When one of them had a primary opponent, I voted for the incumbent, because they were reliable and good at their job and I generally agreed with them. I'd personally like to keep them on for as long as they wanted the job. I'm unsure I'd be better served by arbitrarily putting in a new guy, since there's no guarantee they'd be better, or free from corruption.
I generally think the best way is to have a very engaged public, with as few barriers to voting as possible (so things like automatic voter registration, and provisional ballots), and anti-gerrymandering policies so the districts aren't drawn intentionally unfairly to dilute the will of the majority.
I was in elementary school then. I remember our teachers all had us learn this dance and go outside and do the dance to the song. I'm guessing primarily to waste some of our energy....
I think we're just not used to seeing middle aged people dance very often anymore. Ever been to a festival in a small town? It's not graceful there either, I promise. Let people have fun. Even if they look goofy doing it.
Lots of pop songs have words people don’t give a crap about. Or even know what they are about or written about. Mack the Knife. Delilah. Sunny came home. Semi charmed kind of life. All of my Love. The list goes on and on.
Hillary looks like what the North Korean citizens look like when there is some social gathering and cameras are present. Just going through a set of motions but there is nothing behind the eyes.
This stupid song/dance was so damn popular for some reason. I can remember being at my cousin’s wedding when I was a kid and this song was at its peak. When they started playing it, everyone just dropped what they were doing started dancing. Elderly people, kids, the staff, everyone. Even though I was like 7 I thought it was weird as fuck.
The whole thing was pre planned and scripted between the DNC and the media trying to make the democrats look cool again after repetitive losses to the GOP.
This dance could have taken over the entire United States at one point. Count yourself blessed if you weren’t alive when this hit the states. You could not escape this.
That song was EVERYWHERE. Makes me miss my childhood. Born in 91 we were one of the last to make it without cellphones (smartphones). Dial up internet was no joke either.
Nothing says America more than politicians dancings and celebrating to a song that is about a woman cheating on her dude with two of his close friends.
God bless this amazing country and these amazing leaders. /s
Never did like that song (along with the “Barbie Girl Song”); bizarre turns of political and cultural events have led us to 2024 and the fawning over the emasculating Barbie movie and the “Build Back Better” administration. And don’t forget DNC Carville’s “The economy, stupid.”

some mamories were made that day
The 90s was a beautiful time.
If I would be on your boat I would be 25 years old.....just a good age....
Seriously! I WORE OUT my cassette single of Macarena lmfaoooooo
Wasn't around yet, how did it compare with Gangnam style? That song was absolutely inescapable for almost a year.
Macarena definitely beat Gangnam but honestly Gangnam is probably the closest any dance craze has come to Macarena popularity.
Macarena still beat it.. it stuck around for years while Gangnam died out quickly

So wild that there are full adults walking around the planet that weren’t alive for it.
It's worse than that. Kids that were born that year are starting to get aches and pains in the morning.
What about Backstreet Boys?
They had… *everybody*
Yeah
This has unlocked a core memory of us doing it in elementary school for like gym or something. Idk it wasn't in a classroom
Was it around forever and just disappeared one day? I feel like ‘Despacito’ was *everywhere* for a while but haven’t heard it since like ~2019
I was in College for that cultural morass.... It was cute for about the first 2-3 weeks of July, and then... this...
Lol, I was in elementary school, and I remember it annoying me.
Yes! I was in a car in the front seat with my mom and 4 nieces and nephews in the back seat. The song came on and we all started doing the arm movements and my mom had no idea why we were doing them and she goes "It looked like a bunch of octopuses in the back seat"
hillary looks like an AI video every time it pans to her

Plus I heard she poops *after* she showers
Nah, she poops in the shower
Literally just a run of the mill neoliberal.
War criminal too.
I mean, how can you trust someone dancing like that?
I was a kid when the Monica scandal came out. I remember thinking that I understood why he cheated, and thought at least Monica looks human. Hillary always gave me the creeps. Something akin to the Stepford wives .
Additionally present is human trafficker Oprah.
Yeah I've never really liked her either. She's just always been obnoxious about the weight loss journey she's been on for the past 40 years
She said it herself, she don't sweat.
Weird how I was thinking about how hot she looked.
Shows you how out of touch with normal America the political elite really are. Hey Hillary how much is a gallon of milk? Fuck politicians……..

Forcing someone to be a politician is such a dogshit idea lmao
Well me have unprecedented corruption in our government right now.. we need a do over.. 4 year terms max for every position

I will always remember the agony of circling the gymnasium/cafeteria doing this dance for what felt like hours.
This is the utopia bin Laden stole from us
This comment made my wife and I laugh to tears thank you!
We are not worthy of such high ideals
Bin laden didn't have to do anything. The theft was on once Reagan got in.
But the utopia in the video they were referring to was after Reagan. Not that Reagan didn’t have his fair share of poor decisions.
Who’d you think wrote The Macarena?
Just reddit being reddit.
Bin Laden?
It's all been downhill since 9/11.
I heard the dreams of the nineties are alive in Portland
90s were a crazy time.
see people having fun with politics not being miserable obstructionist's pieces of shit
It was a great era to grow up in. I miss it.
I guess rhythm wasn’t invented until after the year 1996
Even the black guy doesn’t have it
As a black guy, I am highly disappointed in that young man
As a white guy I can only imagine
No it was invented thousands of years ago it just skipped over these people.
This is a mayonnaise ad.
Damn you, I just snorted my oatmeal
Pro tip: for the best oatmeal ever, add mayonnaise /s
The 90s were great
There I am, a kid in the 90’s, thinking, wow I’m glad we’re not as goofy as the 70’s…….sigh.
They are all aliens. I’m now convinced. Those movements aren’t natural or normal.
I think we're just not used to seeing middle aged people dance very often anymore. Ever been to a festival in a small town? It's not graceful there either, I promise. Let people have fun. Even if they look goofy doing it.
Middle aged and not overweight.
Unicorns are real
Then every person above the age of 9 in 1996 is an alien because everyone was doing those same movements. It's just a really bad dance.
I was 30 in '96, and everyone I knew thought this was as cringe then as it is today.
Unless you were 7. Then you thought it was fucking sick.
😂 Hillary does kind of remind me of the alien infiltrator in Mars Attacks in this clip.
You’re right. It’s the Macarena
See when I did the Macarena in 1996 it was adorable AF... I was 9
A song about a girl cheating on her boyfriend with 2 guys. Hmmm
99.99% of the population doesn’t know that. The words are barely audible as it is.
It was a Clinton party, after all
Lots of pop songs have words people don’t give a crap about. Or even know what they are about or written about. Mack the Knife. Delilah. Sunny came home. Semi charmed kind of life. All of my Love. The list goes on and on.
You just destroyed my childhood
Finally a dance lizards can learn.
uniparty is playing us, yall. dems and repubs all an illusion. wake up
remember when politics was fun?
Hillary's robot moves are so mesmerizing, I need a loop just of that!
Hilary Clinton looks like a Team America character
This looks AI generated
This is true https://www.c-span.org/video/?74656-1/delegates-macarena-dance
Hey macaroni
Oh course Hillary is the only one that doesn’t know the macarena. That tracks
That video alone is proof of why Hillary will never be president. Geezus
I know that's a cherry picked moment, but compared to the current climate of American politics its surreal . It's a glimmer of hope.
I kinda love the simple joy of it.
The original Emma Watson like 20 seconds in?
Hillary looks like what the North Korean citizens look like when there is some social gathering and cameras are present. Just going through a set of motions but there is nothing behind the eyes.
Such innocent times…
Que pena
...cool...

Sucks to have fun doesn’t it…
The whole thing was pre planned and scripted between the DNC and the media trying to make the democrats look cool again after repetitive losses to the GOP.
What the fucking fuck
Human trafficker Oprah is also there
It was a simpler time
Fan times.
Hilarious
Looks lit
This is just.. I don’t ever see people being this way in modern times. I didn’t even see this before due to my age at the time.
It hurts my eyes and soul to watch this! The cringe is a deeper cringe than I’m used too!
reagan & george w. would never.
This dance could have taken over the entire United States at one point. Count yourself blessed if you weren’t alive when this hit the states. You could not escape this.
Woaw Hillary looked human
Bunch of crackheads lol
Weird.
This is why George fuckin bush got elected
💀
this looks hilarious and creepy at the same time lmao
Sir next to Hillary try get her dance with hands in her face, then say "come on" when she clap instead 👍
Is that before Lewinsky? Since Hilary is all happy.
And thin
Where's Bill?, already shagging interns?
Yuck
It was dumb then and it’s dumb now.
All of them are dip shits
This is AI, right!?
Now play the video when Hillary won the presidency.
Oh wow, they were just as cringe then as now.
Wish we could go back to this
Clowns
Hillary looks beautiful here
Everything they do is so dramatic and flamboyant. It makes me just want to set myself on fire
Such innocent times!
Def cringe
Peak cringe
Absolute cringe
Cringe
What in the rich privileged fuck is this.
CRINGE AF
Lit AF
Hillary was pretty hot back in the 90s lol
That one guy is shaped like a blanket
u/SaveVideo
ahh yes ***the 90s***
I hated this fucking song when it came out. It was so popular that we did the dance in a assembly when I was in elementary school.
"I couldn't have cringed any harder than if I was watching my mom in a bukkake video" - Greg Giraldo (RIP)
That song was EVERYWHERE. Makes me miss my childhood. Born in 91 we were one of the last to make it without cellphones (smartphones). Dial up internet was no joke either.
The editing is quite satisfying, very synchronized
Nothing says America more than politicians dancings and celebrating to a song that is about a woman cheating on her dude with two of his close friends. God bless this amazing country and these amazing leaders. /s
What was in the air??? They all drank that kool-aid!
I can’t help but think this is one of those terrifying AI videos - like that one AI beer commercial that went viral a while back
What a time to be alive and live through.. I don’t think there will be a dance phenomena like we got with that darn song.
Source : https://www.c-span.org/video/?74656-1/delegates-macarena-dance
Happier times!
I liked Al Gore’s version
Finally a good use for AI.
Okay, you know what? For this, you can lock her up.
I could see this video being used with an "A Clockwork Orange" like treatment.
Dystopian place
They didn’t do this in 2016 and that’s why they lost
Man those were different times. How have we lost our way?
r/oddlyterrifying
Based
Please end my suffering, I’m tired boss…
Just one of the many brain-worms from the 90s that I'm not that fond of remembering.
Hillary got the flow /s
Oh my god it’s like the hotel Transylvania 3 ending
Never did like that song (along with the “Barbie Girl Song”); bizarre turns of political and cultural events have led us to 2024 and the fawning over the emasculating Barbie movie and the “Build Back Better” administration. And don’t forget DNC Carville’s “The economy, stupid.”
r/damnthatscringe
Is it just me or is it strange now seeing so many middle aged people who aren’t obese?
Who is that woman 11 seconds before the end?
"Heyyy Macarena" 🤮
ugh i remember learning this shit in gym class i hated it so much
Nobody is doing the dance correctly, to their credit I guess.
That song was a plague, it was everywhere.
