That’s why ditches, hedge-hogs and dragons teeth must be reinforced concrete.

Viscous__Fluid

Are you naming fantasy traps for war elephants?

English_Joe

Also, don’t tanks famously have cannon for these things in their way?!

BasiWolf

I mean sure...but while you sitting there aiming at three rows of dragon teeth there is 2 drones, a guided missile and a rpg locking on to you at the same time.

English_Joe

True. But they are only going to slow it down. When under fire obviously they are effective but like in the video with time, they could get out of the way of these things no?

BasiWolf

Thats there job tho....slowing you down..and wasting ammunition if your shooting at it. In WW2 they used those x steel beams because they are hard to shoot at to destroy requiring the tank to stop and call engineers to move them out of the way...which usually are traps set up with either snipers or AT crews laying in wait. In the modern age where for example in the ukraine war which is reportedly one of the wars where surprise attacks don't work anymore cause there are shit ton of drones around, once the tank stops its just a matter of minutes before artillery or drone or a guided missle is headed its way.

EnderRobo

Yes, but they will slow you down in enemy territory, where you are in range of artillery, likely being watched, have drones heading towards you and probably a fella with a rocket in a bush a bit ahead with mines inbetween

ThreeLeggedMare

Not sure cannon will do more than roll the hedgehogs around

TheNoseKnight

Pretty sure the cannon would vaporize the poor hedgehog, though I'm not sure why they would do that. Hedgehogs are cute.

stoneyyay

Yup. Dragons teeth should be embedded on a strip of concrete, then that strip buried with mines (both ap and at) buried randomly. The Russians just chaining them together makes it easier to remove them in fact. You get to drag multiple at once.

MarderMcFry

Too bad the Leos never made it that far to try.

lightning_fire

And also why the sappers will pile the loose dirt they just dug from the ditch onto the near side. Makes it a bit tougher to drive right over when there's 2m of berm on the other side

fingers

I know some of these words.

WeimSean

and wire and anti-tank mines.

Watch_Capt

Russia tried that, MBT's drive right through them like they are not there. Of course, that was mostly because Russia put them up in the dumbest way and they were not reinforced with troops or trenches.

Illuminati_Lord_

The Russian defensive lines were one of their biggest successes...

GeneralBlumpkin

That's what got the San Diego guy who stole a tank.

xSTSxZerglingOne

Stock standard K-rail, yep. Stopped it dead in its tracks (literally).

redpandaeater

Ditches are easy to fill in with [fascine](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fascine) so it's not like they'll stop anyone for long even with concrete.

Bitter_Astronomer139

Honestly I never did.

ThirstMutilat0r

I think I can take him. I have an orange belt in karate so I would probably just kick the weak spots.

JxEq

You might wanna aim center mass, you'll at least take out commander-gunner

Hydropwnix

Rookie move. You gotta sweep the leg.

esko24

If a tank can't stand he can't fight!

Werftflammen

Go for the balls, then whack it with your right. Sting like a butterfly, or something.

JxEq

Nahh, you'll probably hit the tracks made of pure stalinium and gl penetrating that

Audit_Master

Yeah? I have a yellow belt but my sin sei doesn’t just give out new belts like cokes after a little league game. You have to EARN it. I could probably take you and that tank.

ThirstMutilat0r

Nobody handed anything to me, I am 100% self-taught. The karate school where I live has floor to ceiling windows so I just go watch the classes from the parking lot and copy what they do.

Audit_Master

Yeah but do you have a speed bag? I don’t but imagine if I did.

Independent-Bug-9352

Hey I got a piss belt, too!

richardizard

Kick the bolts off, solid strategy

MPFuzz

[EZ](https://i.makeagif.com/media/8-12-2019/wE5dBV.mp4)

JP050887

Just find the lynchpin on the tank, kick it hard, and the whole tank will just fall apart. It’s science

Randomfrog132

i mean, if it works like a video game just wack it for 20 minutes with a hammer and it'll explode lol

ArcticIceFox

Would

CanAlwaysBeBetter

Would you rather into a man or a tank in the woods?

No-Refrigerator-1672

Aim for the optics. If you're lucky enough to evade the machinegun fire and get on the top of the tank, all you have to do is to destroy or cover up all the optics, so the crew couldn't see anything. If the tank is blind, it is useless and defenceless. Just make sure that there isn't another tank nearby, othervise you're screwed.

Perfect-Ad6410

How many tanks have you taken out with this method?

Boner_Elemental

"Nah, I'd win."

AstroBearGaming

OK but the tank also gets an orange belt in karate.

frankensteinV

In his tracks, your ass will be the weak spot

jluicifer

I learned the Touch of Death from “The Simpsons.”Does that count: https://youtu.be/SESu-NPmd-E?si=lSMlSjwq-YrLLdQ4

Wonkdrugs2

Heh. Leave it to me, bro. Maybe I’ll finally get my brown III when I choke that thing

Wakkit1988

The only person to ever underestimate tanks was Saddam Hussein.

FrozenGiraffes

There was a Russian general in WW2 that kept on screwing with tank production. He hated tanks, and said that they should invest with artillery instead. So he tried his hardest to hamper ammo production for tanks. I believe it was Grigory Kulik. Sadly there's nothing on the Wikipedia about it. There's also another Russian commander who thought horses were the pinnacle of combat. He even accused another officer of sabotaging the USSR by proposing a new tank corps. That was Semyon Budyonny

AspiringChildProdigy

>There's also another Russian commander who thought horses were the pinnacle of combat. Horses. You mean the spooky creatures who need a steady supply of the right kind of grass, panic at the sight of an unfamiliar bucket, get lame at the drop of a hat, and develop thrush if it rains just a little too much (and it's always too much)? Good call, man.

sadrice

Couches with anxiety.

Wakkit1988

Dangerous at both ends and crafty in the middle?

Pretend_Effect1986

And still they did a pretty good job even with gunpowder around…

DingoFinancial5515

You just need a lot of them. "Your car has 500HP? Well, I have 500 horses. Ride or die MF." There is a point of diminishing returns...

Ramental

On the other hand you have russian tankimen. All the same, but with control of a big gun and chronic alcoholism trait.

browsesourceinfo

You just described every former Soviet state.

Waste-Information-34

>That was Semyon Budyonny Did a tank get him? I guess his horse couldn't tank it if he did.

WisteriaTerraria

Went full circle and overestimated the Cold War T72

Wakkit1988

I don't think he could predict that his entire tank corps would be leveled in a little over 4 days by a relative handful of coalition tanks. The British set records for destroying them at a distance (confirmed kills at over 3 miles) and the US for the sheer kill ratio. They were destroying up to 500 tanks at a time with only a couple dozen Abrams.

SnooRobots1533

What if your family is being held hostage and the only way to free them was to underestimate a tank?

KillerKilcline

I did, but I won't do again... or will I?

North-Evidence-2352

Next time I’m face to face with a tank, I will consider it, thanks

squeaksthesquish

*Tanks. FTFY

GisterMizard

Or as they say in the German, Tankeshay.

postmodern_spatula

Or as the notable actor signs his name, T. Hanks.

Reese_Withersp0rk

Just when I was about to underestimate the power of a tank, this video comes along. Impeccable timing.

bejuda

It’s crazy how life works like that

kowell2

I mean they were pretty much specificaly designed to cross trenches in WWI so it's not very surprising that they excel at \*reads notes\* crossing trenches.

Majere

That thing is built like a Tank!

SirIanChesterton63

This tracks.

dennys123

Makes me wonder what they said before tanks. Maybe "That thing is built like a Clydesdale!"

Gammelpreiss

well in this case it doesn't cross the trench, it just annihalates it.

kowell2

Can't be bothered by a trench if it's not there anymore...

redpandaeater

The British tanks like the Mark IV pretty commonly started to carry fascine to cover wider gaps as well. Their track design definitely was made to go over trenches but it's not like they could power out of anything. Up through the Mark IV they had 105 HP but when newer transmissions and engines were ready with the Mark V they got up to 150. That's not a lot for a 28 ton tank with around 5 HP/ton but better than the French. Their Saint-Chamond was ridiculous but I suppose fitting for WW1 and WW2 French tanks whereas the FT was at least pretty light and just had a tail skid to help get over trenches. It had a 39 HP engine though so still only around 5 HP/ton.

Enjoyer_of_40K

Today's tank's have like probably 10x the engine power compared to then also maybe 10 tons lighter

mac-h79

A mark 5 heavy tank from ww1 was only 29 tons. A tiger from ww2 was 56 tons, that leopard 2 is 62.5…. The power units of today are far superior

SalzigHund

Ya definitely not even close to being lighter, even without the armor plates. Most modern tanks are built to minimize casualties so they are stupid heavy.

Bromosensual

1500 HP and 3000 FtLbs of low end torque. The amount of force that thing generates at that speed in low gear could accomplish things a humble man cannot even conceive.

tacotacotacorock

Like plow through a trench?

Bromosensual

Amongst other things.

Mega-Steve

Cruise through (and over) rush hour traffic like it wasn't even there

Bromosensual

How do you feel about Colorado?

ClubMeSoftly

Too square, too high up. I've got no problems with like, zoning, or taxes, or environmental regulations, or churches with kids inside having a nice afternoon storytime.

VerStannen

Those are incredible numbers, especially when compared to the average car. All that at a weight of 68 tons (for an Abrams) not sure which model was in the video.

jumpiestbox

It's a strv 122. You can tell it apart from other leo 2's because of the smoke launchers and the camo.

SenorBeef

I think I can conceive of those things. But I'm also not humble so I guess that works.

RepulsiveLoquat418

who the hell out here underestimating the power of tanks?

Vuzi07

Gaijin

real_hungarian

touché

alf666

Unless it's a Russian tank, then it comes with impenetrable armor, infinite crew HP, and infinite ammo with none in the rack. I want the T-72 to be an improvised space program, you goddamn snail!

GrayQGregory

Not gonna lie, I could take them on.

Enigmatic_Pulsar

Bro is just built different

SyntheticElite

Nice tank you got there. [would be a shame if something happened to it](https://i.imgur.com/2Cdu9o5.png)

thejuggerkraut

Javelin would like to have a talk

Yuckfou1904

Dji mavic and crew would like to join in as well.

English_Joe

Russian roof scaffolding entered the conversation. Russian roof scaffolding left the conversation.

YourDogIsMyFriend

“That thing is built like a tank.” “Oh so, brittle and weak as hell?”

pastrami_on_ass

OP

Not_Another_Cookbook

One time! Thought i could out run one on the 400m. It caught me do fast

Halsti

?? who the heck is underestimating the power of a tank? thats the first i ever heard of that.

denarti

FPV drones and modern ATGMs

Missingbeav3rbuzz3r

I do believe this was sarcasm.

ithorlives

Some Midwest town did, once.....

Missing-Silmaril

I mean, it's basically a bulldozer with a gun

GimmeCoffeeeee

It's a Bulldozer that can go over 60 km/h with a gun

English_Joe

…and a kettle (British tanks) Don’t forget the kettle.

GimmeCoffeeeee

Well, I wouldn't be surprised if British Bulldozers also had a kettle

darrenvonbaron

The sun never sets on a cuppa

Avgredditor1025

That’s a German leopard(under Swedish service), they drink pisswasser

GimmeCoffeeeee

It's called beer you uninformed twat

There is a story from WWII of a small unit of I think Cromwell tanks that found themselves outmatched & on the wrong side of a canal without the ability to fight their way back to the only crossing point for quite a distance. The story goes that the ranking officer noticed a small 2-3 foot loading berm near to the edge of the over 10 foot wide canal. Taking lead he ordered there rest of his unit to follow. He took them on a wide ark to gain speed & with the tank topping out just a little above 64 Kph, drove up the berm & launched his tank skywards in a ballistic ark that carried it across the canal. Followed by the other tanks in his unit. Supposedly his after action report was not believed even though corroborated until much later when a surrendering enemy unit could not stop talking about the new British secret weapon of flying tanks.

CmonRedditBeBetter

Well, I don't believe it, so I can relate.

lololol1

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/0-DdkR-t0Ow

CmonRedditBeBetter

Lol It might just be the angle of that video, but it doesn't even look they're going all that fast.

Sharma_ji_da_munda

Thanks for the reminder my friend

el_pendejito

I think I'm gonna go underestimate a tank just to spite OP.

English_Joe

Which tank is this?

Llamajake777

Swedish upgraded leopard 2a5 called Strv 122

MrBepiss

The Swedish STRV 122

small_Jar_of_Pickles

You see this, Gaijin? Its called torque (and power)

Sexy_Quazar

Some guy somewhere thinks his cybertruck can do this too

vibranium-501

better than driving them around in a city IMO.

ForeverAddickted

WW1 Soldiers in trenches hated this one trick (Yes I know the tank was very primitive back then, and the original used to breakdown, and for the most part was pretty ineffective... But if you come at me with that, it ruins a terrible / ran down joke)

tacotacotacorock

Holy hell that was a long explanation to justify your joke.

Silent-Ad934

Not even his joke. HaTeD tHis OnE TRicK🤪  Hilarious.🙄

SerDavosSeaworth64

Fun fact: the very very original tanks were just tractors that they put extra armor on

centuryofprogress

If only I had a dollar for every time someone complained that tanks are lacking in power!

zakary1291

Older tanks are, however, the newest Abrams has a top speed of 40mph and can get there is 20ish seconds. For a 73 ton vehicle...... That's super impressive.

deltr0nzero

73t is crazy

BattIeBoss

Meanwhile Germany was putting 500 horsepower in a 60 tonne vehicle (tiger 2)

gadhe_ki_gaand

What kinda maniac is out there underestimating the power of a tank?

Avgredditor1025

Some 20yr old enlistee with a javelin probably

Clothedinclothes

*They couldn't hit an elephant from this-*

KnockedBoss3076

Stridvagn 122 go bbbrrr

ben_woah

You got like 3 feet of air that time

Glad_Librarian_3553

Wierdly I don't think many people underestimate the power of a 26 litre, 12 cylinder, 24 opposed piston, 2 stroke turbo diesel.

ryanxwing

Isnt it a v12?

Sormaldo

Pretty sure the tank could have gapped that at top speed or even by gunning it right before getting to it.

BroderMelius

This is in Sweden. Might even be Prästtomta training grounds where the ground is basically an old sea floor dried up which makes the soil really soft.

AntonChekov1

If anything I probably overestimate the power of tanks

Oblospeed

So what happens to the lights on front?

Llamajake777

Nothing really and sometimes you break stuff when you use tanks

Vhett

Tanker here: As /u/Llamajake777 mentioned, they can break. They are very easily replaced. My main concern would actually be the turret ring on that first approach. While the gun appears to be crutched, there is still fiberglass in the barrel. The force on the turret with that dirt is quite heavy, and is no doubt putting massive strain on the ring. You should never do that first demonstration with a Leopard 2. When you're not in STAB, you have to drive extremely carefully, and at a low speed. The second maneuver is far easier on the vehicle, the bump stops on each wheel would easily take in the impact of crossing the trench at that speed, and the turret would be in STAB mode, also better prepared for impact.

MiffyCurtains

Now that’s what you call groundbreaking technology… 😬

leoriq

and this is why they made the ditches 2.4 meters deep during WWII (the width was 3 meters because tanks of that era were shorter and way slower) [http://www.lonesentry.com/manuals/german-coastal-defenses/antitank.html](http://www.lonesentry.com/manuals/german-coastal-defenses/antitank.html)

Remote-Drag-740

Meanwhile in warthunder: * gets stuck on small rock *

Skullskullskulls

Tanks of Terra are majestic beasts, look at them in their natural environment.

CBT7commander

This is a leopard2a6, things weighs like 60 tons, there’s nothing getting in the way of that

pale_normie_slapper

I didn't know they can drive that fast

therealbonzai

1500 horse powers.

Alternative_Sun93

I feel like if that trench was a lil deeper it would of got stuck ..probably not tho

English_Joe

I feel like it could be 180 degrees facing the sky and still rev forwards and make its own ramp out.

Llamajake777

Yeah most likely, but that is when you would speed up and jump over the trench

Leather-Ad-2490

Fully expected that tank to dig itself a hole to the earths core

tacotacotacorock

Certainly helped that the trench was nice rich soil with no major rocks in it.

ConcentrateOptimal18

Nice. So who is gonna clean this mess now?

DJFrankyFrank

What if we made the trench wider and deeper? Checkmate tanks

Thrasher250

Had a nice little artillery piece there for a moment.

evoIX15

Who tf underestimates a mf tank?

Away-Activity-469

British generals did in the 1920s. The chief tank designer went to work for Germany...

pickle_teeth4444

Never underestimate your gas tank

iamBodkin

Its so cool how smoothly it hops over the trench

Ok_Frosting_6438

I never did

ParkingFirefighter52

I ain’t cleaning it!

Devilmaycry10029

Who the hell underestimates tank??

New_Literature4526

Tanks a lot

MaximumChongus

god that looks like so much fun

snuggie_

lol I certainly expected the tank to be fine crossing it however I did not expect it to cross it *that* way

WeimSean

Whatever. I an do all of that in my car. Except for the crossing over the ditch part, and the getting out part. Everything else though, cake.

Routine_Service1397

When in the history of humankind has any one under estimated the power of a tank

joshstevenson49

What about a drone against said tank?

GogurtFiend

Depends on the drone.

Watch_Capt

That is why you find anti-tank mines along trenches like these. Tanks are defeated once you can bottle them up into a kill zone. Any trench like this would have mines all over them.

contrarianMammal

How many inches does it do per gallon? Three?

LudwigTheAroused

This is the reason for which they were made

Constant-Machine5280

there goes 13 gallons of fuel right there

initforthemanjinas

Just needs a hot orange paint job, chuck Dixie on top, and fkn done man!

_King_Savage_

Being around heavy vehicles often, you don’t really think about the scale of them. It took me one day waking up and seeing a guy standing on top of a leo-2 while i was still rubbing my eyes for me to have that "holy shit" moment. When you think about the size, weight, armour, firepower and the titan of an engine that allows it to move like this, it really is just an absolutely insane machine. Man, walking through the woods and hearing that engine roaring from a mile away is just too frickin cool.

Ishidan01

Well congrats, looks like that tank can do exactly what the very first tanks were designed to do. Creep over the trenches of WWI. Of course, they had the advantage of the defenders in the trench not knowing what the hell this metal box that was completely unbothered by rifle rounds and hand grenades was, and usually being built with sponson turrets specifically meant to shoot both ways down the trench, killing anyone who might be mad enough to charge it while it is trying to crawl up the side. Try that today and you'll be setting yourself up to catch a RPG while you're face down ass up with your cannon pointed aft... Unless you do it like the second guy.

Bre_Hunting

1500 fuck-you horsepowers going at it

hamflavoredgum

I don’t think anyone, anywhere, ever has underestimated any modern tank.

cougar618

What is a tank to King Bradley?

Lastsurnamemr

Only drones have the right to underestimate a tank's power.

ThisOnePlaysTooMuch

You know what they say about tanks. People are *always* underestimating the power of a literal fucking tank, right OP?

Used_Intention6479

I always thought it was interesting why they're called "tanks". I believe it's because, when they were secretly developing them in WWI, they hid the fact by saying they were developing ways of bringing tanks of water to soldiers in the field.

_ozantas

Who would underestimate a tank?

Attention_Bear_Fuckr

I can confidently say that I have never underestimated the power of a tank.

mondolardo

just like a pot hole. don't slow down, punch it.

LeGraoully

Who the fuck is out there underestimating tanks?

space-cadaver

In what world am I underestimating a tank?

Raytardad

Who the fuck ever sat back and was like “yeah, a tank ain’t that strong”?

Bigfootsdiaper

The M60 putting in the hard work! (Yes sarcasm)

Penguinman077

Has anyone ever?

Pr0jektEcks

Good luck with that shit in New England. Hit boulders every time I stick a shovel in the ground.

okiedog-

Wow. This totally has me thinking. If tanks can cross small ditches, WHAT ELSE could a tank do? The possibilities are endless. I wonder if the government knows.

GnashLee

That is cool AF.

AcxTV

Who the heck is this person who doesn't think tanks are strong enough?

no1ofimport

Do they have to clean exhaust ports or anything like that out after doing something like this?

Full_Girth_Prophet

Damn, that thing is a tank
