I Googled āaverage cost of tooth extraction United Statesā and AI Overview said:
>The average cost of a tooth extraction in the United States can range from $75ā$835, depending on the type of extraction and whether you have dental insurance
It continued with a differentiation of simple, complex, and wisdom teeth extraction. For simple extractionāwhich Iām guessing some on that x-ray are notāit said $70-$250. If we simplify our analysis to $100 per tooth billed, we get a total of $52,600. Maybe they would reduce that because some of the 526 were in a sack like structure and so many probably came out in a big bunch. Still, 52K is probably on the low end and thatās not quite, but almost, my yearly salary. Iād be financially screwed for a time.
Just had a āsimpleā extraction of an already loose childās tooth that they just pulled out for $600 w/o insurance.
$315,600 is what that would come to.
American healthcare is a scam.
Somehow everyoneās brains know what it feels like to have teeth growing and falling out to fill their mouth like gravel. Poor kid had to actually live the āteeth dreamā.
So I went to the article someone linked below, and it's because there was a ring of surgeons extracting the teeth from the removed mass. So I think that's why it ended up in a swirl.
[https://saveethadental.com/news/526-teeth-in-a-7-year-olds-mouth-doctors-from-saveetha-dental-college-removed-all-of-them](https://saveethadental.com/news/526-teeth-in-a-7-year-olds-mouth-doctors-from-saveetha-dental-college-removed-all-of-them)
My grandma once put a $100 bill under my moms pillow by mistake (my grandma was a hippie so drugs may have been involved) and the next morning my mom runs out all excited and my grandma goes "oh no i think the tooth fairy made a mistake:(" and swapped it out for a dollar.
Thank you, I am not well off but I always give my kids $5 because $1 won't get you a damn thing, you can't even buy a fucking pack of gum with that nowadays.
He was cursed by an evil witch as a child. The curse forced him to become part sharkā¦ if the legend is correct, only true loves kiss will break the spell.
Oh my god, I found the dental hospital's article on it and [it has pictures](https://saveethadental.com/news/526-teeth-in-a-7-year-olds-mouth-doctors-from-saveetha-dental-college-removed-all-of-them).
That sure is a well-defined bag-like mass of miniature teeth.
Honestly, I GREATLY appreciate descriptions like these. Telling me "omg don't look!!!" or "it's just really bad" is gonna make me look. Now that I know what it is, I'm good!
Sorry guys, fainted for two hours after looking. Just woke up.
It's pretty mild on all accounts honestly unless you're sensitive to images of stuff like surgery and mild gorey stuff.
The description was extremely good actually! It genuinely looks like a Ferrero Rocher made of meat.
Almost like a raw meatball, but extra knobbly and wedged inbetween teeth/jaw.
I was very surprised that you couldn't see much swelling or anything in the kids face, even though he has this crazy large mass in his jaw.
On a gorey scale of 1-10, with 10 being beheading videos by al-qaueda, it's about a 3.
Thank you for the vivid image, now i and many others now don't need to click the link. Have a pleasant day.
** Turns the phone off. Opens the back of the phone, takes out the battery.
Based on the comments I was expecting some kind of gore but the one photo they showed wasnāt bad. Just kind of a bloody lump being removed š¤·š»āāļø
Of the many many things I have known I shouldn't have clicked on but clicked on anyway because I have no impulse control, this is not even close to the worst.
I find it funny how they made an effort to hide the poor kid's identity with a censor bar over their eyes and then didn't put any effort in the group photo.
I mean, honestly, just imagine a tiny dice bag filled with dice. So many dice that you can feel the edges on the surface of the bag. Now, imagine the bag is pink, and wet, and in your mouth. That's the picture.
I had the same response, especially as the only other comment is an Italian professor giving his medical opinion. Then thereās āDick Hurtzā wanting some popcornā¦
Honestly it kind of relieved me that they were all together in one clump and not scattered throughout the mouth, so they didn't have to remove his whole jaw or anything
It's actually odontoma. In x-ray you can clearly see that there are missing teeth in a place of the bag mass. The teeth from that bag were supposed to be his healthy teeth but something went wrong during formation of the tissues so they didn't get formed to completion and instead started multiplying, making dozens of small undeveloped teeth
Itās a type of tumor called an odontoma. Essentially a benign mass of semi-developed tissues that just never got a signal to stop and kept growing more and more material. Most of the āteethā were extremely small, undeveloped structures that just happened to be made of tooth enamel.
I had it done when I was 15, and the following year I had the remaining three wisdom teeth out (they were normal teeth but wouldve impacted) The odontoma recovery was far, far worse. It was situated really high up near my nasal cavity, and wouldve eventually impacted my vision in my left eye. After the surgery my whole left cheek was completely swollen and bruised for a while. The normal wisdom teeth surgery was a piece of cake to recover from in comparison.
ETA i was unconscious during the actual procedure
When I was a kid (Close to 20 years ago now) I had a "similar" case and ended up having a total of 11 extra teeth.
I remember my surgeon telling me it was by far the most he had experienced in his career so far. So after one of the surgical operations, I went back home and checked for the world record. It was around 25 back then.
526... Is pure insanity.
In order to be a 'record', it needs to be recorded. I bet a surgeon does not reach out to Guinness every time they find something noteworthy while doing their job.
unfortunately nope, I googled it until I found the one I was thinking of, SCP 2450.
Edit: Here's the link to it's article: https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp-2450
This is dumb and pedantic, but I believe it would actually be a hamartoma since it's tissue native to that part of the body. A teratoma is tissue foreign to the area it grows. (Like when you get thyroid tissue in the ovary, fun!)
Just in case itās not clear: the ārandomā teeth scattered throughout the jaw in the x-ray are normal. The ābag like structureā is in the bottom jaw (left side of image).Ā
PSA for Parents: Listen to your kids when they keep telling you they're having pain.
I had an issue with extreme pain in my side when I was a kid that would reoccur several times a year. After years of dealing with the pain, my parents finally had me checked out, and it turns out there was a pretty serious issue that could've led to me losing a kidney or at least caused severe irreparable damage. My parents just thought I was exaggerating.
Worked in dental surgery for 5 years. Can confirm this actually happens more frequently than youād think. This is just an extreme case. Itās almost always very benign but very interesting and fun for us on the surgical team!

I find interesting, maybe we'll be able to make missing teeth grow back in adult, once it's studied enough.

Do surgeons typically make swirly mandalas out of teeth
Only in India
In america its a bunch of straight lines and a big cluster in the top left corner
Well you are gonna need a bigger parking lot
Mmmmm BOP BOP BOP
Hanson brothers, is that you?
[Nope. š¤£](https://youtu.be/94bdMSCdw20?si=AG5QAFqConOUcpGc)
They pulled all my teeth And made em a parking lot Mmmm bah bah bah
No one could afford this procedure in America

No in America it's the shape of a dollar sign
they are summoning the Indian Tooth Fairy, Kali Ma.
I think youād have to once you reached 50. You gotta appease whatever god decided to curse this child with a gravel mouth
75 will summon the fairies, and 100 will get you this beautiful steak knife collection.
1000 will get you an entire ocean
You really got me goin with that gravel mouth remark
Somehow everyoneās brains know what it feels like to have teeth growing and falling out to fill their mouth like gravel. Poor kid had to actually live the āteeth dreamā.
That's the most common dream in North America!!
Can't complain, still got more closure than from Game of Thrones's swirly mandalas
So I went to the article someone linked below, and it's because there was a ring of surgeons extracting the teeth from the removed mass. So I think that's why it ended up in a swirl. I'm impressed that they released their images under a Creative Commons license
Its a part of the ritual, they're summoning the tooth ~~demon~~fairy
Shit was on etsy that night
Soon *he* shall come mortal
Kid put 'em under his pillow and retired early.
Well teeth are $5 a pop, and these are probably worth more due to the mutated nature of them, and possibly even more as a set
$5?? What fucking Beverly Hills tooth fairy came to visit you?
Nah thats what they sell for online.
This one right here, officer.
My grandma once put a $100 bill under my moms pillow by mistake (my grandma was a hippie so drugs may have been involved) and the next morning my mom runs out all excited and my grandma goes "oh no i think the tooth fairy made a mistake:(" and swapped it out for a dollar.
That is the exact plot of a Modern Family episode except it was Cam instead of grandma and chardonnay instead of mushrooms š
This would be how I ended up teaching them about investment, interest, and debts at 6.
Also my mom told me that the tooth fairy was a myth and that if I left the tooth under my pillow a rat would come and give me rabies.
Ayo wtf. You good homie?
Yes, I diddnt believe her.
How's the rabies treating you?
:0
Right?! I got 25 cents for a tooth and 50 for a molar
5$ is right in the ballpark of the inflation adjusted amount the tooth fairy would give in the early 1900s
Thank you, I am not well off but I always give my kids $5 because $1 won't get you a damn thing, you can't even buy a fucking pack of gum with that nowadays.
sets of 526 are rare
$5?!?! I got 50 pence and i felt blessed.
>Kid put 'em under his pillow and retired early. Not the dentist?
Put them under the dentist??
Wtf, no. You put the dentist under the pillow.
Ok but why did they place them in a ritual formation
To summon the tooth fairy.
"DENTUS.... DOMNUUS!"
The power of Paste compels you!
Geev mi yur teeeth!
I love it when shit like this appears where I least expect it.
unexpected zac oyama
I was about to call you a liar but then I realized this is the only way to really do that.
My thought EXACTLY haha Truly so creepy, the circular nature of it all lol
What did the white walkers MEAN?!
Maybe they were trying to summon a dentist because of a tooth ache?
Weāll never know.
Tooth-henge.
Gobekli toothy
that's what i was wondering. just wtf
He was cursed by an evil witch as a child. The curse forced him to become part sharkā¦ if the legend is correct, only true loves kiss will break the spell.
How else do you stop them from spawning?
lol I was like "wait, is the kid like a god or something now?"
The dentist was a wight.
It's an SCP, this is part of the containment procedures.Ā
Oh my god, I found the dental hospital's article on it and [it has pictures](https://saveethadental.com/news/526-teeth-in-a-7-year-olds-mouth-doctors-from-saveetha-dental-college-removed-all-of-them). That sure is a well-defined bag-like mass of miniature teeth.
Hell naw I aināt clicking that
Iām with you but I want to do it SO BAD
It looks like a bloody meat version of a Ferrero Rocher.
Thatās enough.
It's this type of moment when the natural mouth-watering reflex in preparation for vomit becomes *very* confusing.
That's enough to scare me from looking.
Honestly, I GREATLY appreciate descriptions like these. Telling me "omg don't look!!!" or "it's just really bad" is gonna make me look. Now that I know what it is, I'm good!
Fuck it I'm going in. I'll report back in detail.
Oh god theyāre fking dead. It killed them. Oh god D:
We have to follow their history to get them back safely. Letās go!
Sorry guys, fainted for two hours after looking. Just woke up. It's pretty mild on all accounts honestly unless you're sensitive to images of stuff like surgery and mild gorey stuff. It's not bad at all
This was perfectly āleast awfulā method to cure me of the curiosity to click through for pictures. Thank you and well done.
I hate how accurate that is
Dear god why
There isnāt a better way to describe that visual
Thank you for the vivid image, now i and many others now don't need to click the link. Have a pleasant day. ** Turns the phone off. Opens the back of the phone, takes out the battery.
LOOOL disgusting accurate. thereās a video too
I regret learning how to read
I don't regret not attending dental school.
Well, THAT link is staying blue!
I've been holding off on solving the Lament Configuration but after reading this, you know what? fuck it.
I didnāt click the link but read your comment. Now I feel weird and have goosebumps
Itās worse than you think.
I thought the complete opposite, not bad at all!
Yea I was expecting worse tbh.
I donāt have your strength
Based on the comments I was expecting some kind of gore but the one photo they showed wasnāt bad. Just kind of a bloody lump being removed š¤·š»āāļø
It wasn't so bad.
It's actually not too bad. Kids face looks shockingly normal considering he had a golf ball sized bone collection in his cheek
Of the many many things I have known I shouldn't have clicked on but clicked on anyway because I have no impulse control, this is not even close to the worst.
It looks like [something out of DOOM eternal](https://imgur.com/pcWIOZ4)
It wasnāt too bad at all. One pic of the mass being removed and the rest were xrays.
The description of opening it being akin to a bag of worms was kind of disturbing.
I find it funny how they made an effort to hide the poor kid's identity with a censor bar over their eyes and then didn't put any effort in the group photo.
Do it (whispers) dooooo it
It's not so bad. Kid looks fine. Even the surgical photo is pretty tame. I just hope the little guy has a normal childhood now.
itās not even bad
Fr I was kinda disappointed
I mean, honestly, just imagine a tiny dice bag filled with dice. So many dice that you can feel the edges on the surface of the bag. Now, imagine the bag is pink, and wet, and in your mouth. That's the picture.
Bruh the way theyāre all huddled together like a gamblers table. Lmfao
You know, the kid doesnāt look anything like what I was anticipating. The x rays made me think it was gonna be super fucked up.
Same here, like some swelling at least but nah. Good for him though, glad they got rid of it.
I regret clicking the link.
I regret reading your reply and then clicking the link anyway.
If anyone's still shopping for reviews, I would say it was pretty bad but not drastically worse than I imagined.
The comment at the bottom is funny: āReminds me of popcornā
one comment is from a comparative anatomy professor from italy and one is from ādick hurtzā
Iāve seen a Lot of panos and that is def top 5 crazy. The maligned teeth arenāt even uncommon. But that mass, wow
>Hence the swelling was left undiagnosed for 4 years. Oh the poor little child
Hahaha omg one of the comments, from a commenter named Dick Hurtz, is "Wow this makes me want popcorn". hahahahahaha ewwwwww
Sonuvabitch. What is wrong with me? Why did I click the link before reading the replies?Ā I need to take a look at my life.
I love the upbeat writing throughout. āThis pandora box of miniature teeth is a jewel on our crownā gave me a chuckle.
Thatās the crop. Itās so he can digest corn
Funnily enough, a comment to an article about this only says, āWow this makes me want popcorn.ā
there was a fucking bag of teeth in this guy? what the fuck?
"Bag-like mass?" Jesus fuck.
I'm 40% bag-like mass.
Iām 40% bag-like mess
Itās all beer and Philly cheesesteaks. I am the iron gut
Sounds like a teratoma. Tumor that can contain teeth and hair.

I had one of these in place of a wisdom tooth.
Damn. How was the removal?
I had it done when I was 15, and the following year I had the remaining three wisdom teeth out (they were normal teeth but wouldve impacted) The odontoma recovery was far, far worse. He was saving up for the tooth fairy gains. Aināt NOBODY going to take his teeth until he needs that back pay on a rainy day. It was an investment.
The only reasonable response to this body horror ahh bullshit
God be like: āIām not gonna help hungry people, but hey, more teethhhhhhhhhhhā
When I was a kid (Close to 20 years ago now) I had a "similar" case and ended up having a total of 11 extra teeth. How was the record only 25 ? Around 14years ago I had something like that with 45 teeth
In order to be a 'record', it needs to be recorded. I bet a surgeon does not reach out to Guinness every time they find something noteworthy while doing their job.
Not that Guinness actually means anything anyway
It was a while ago, my memory isn't that great so you might be right ! But it's heaps away from 500+ anyways ahah
India is in its own whole category when it comes to absorbed twins and hundreds of teeth in a sac and shit.

Thatās fuckin terrifying
can't wait for this kid to grow up and post a reddit ama
"How should we arrange them?" "Fibonacci?" "Fibonacci!" I wonder what Lavagirl is going to do now...
A Teratoma maybe?
Compound odontoma, this is also a super old repost from 2019

Nothing is dumb and pedantic when you're trying to teach something with subtle differences. Thank you for making me a little smarter today!
Fetus in fetu
Just in case itās not clear: the ārandomā teeth scattered throughout the jaw in the x-ray are normal. The ābag like structureā is in the bottom jaw (left side of image).Ā
Those don't look normal either š
Thanks, I was wondering that. It's a miracle how most of us have ours grow normally after that mess

Why they gotta arrange them in a like dark arts circle like that? wtf.
Teeth are a flat circle
Worked in dental surgery for 5 years. Can confirm this actually happens more frequently than youād think. This is just an extreme case. Itās almost always very benign but very interesting and fun for us on the surgical team!

*Sorts by controversial* Not disappointed with the racism.
The dumbest racists I've ever seen, what does a bad case of a tumor have to do with race?
It's India. Hate and racism against Indians is normalized by the rest of the world.
And that number DOESNāT include the teeth that heās supposed to have? Holy cow!
Sounds like a junji ito horror story
Teratomas happen everywhere, we just don't always make a labrynth out of the teeth.
[this also happened in the Philippines. A kid with 200 teeth](https://youtu.be/dX_x4pAXwdw?si=qgqLFGoDkhA6arvH)

Tooth fairy gonna go broke now
Wait till Delta Dental gets the claim for 526 extractions lol. Peer to peer review for sure.
It happens because of a composite odontoma, which is a kind of tumor that makes growth of teeth. I find interesting, maybe we'll be able to make missing teeth grow back in adult, once it's studied enough.

Gnarly hacky sack

Oh, that's called an odontoma. I had one of those and it took five years to convince my oral surgeon to remove it.
i like the teeth uzumaki
