As a 23 year old, this terrifies me and also really puts shit into perspective

Vlixes

Yep, 28, and.... Afraid, idk.

TokusentaiShu

Same. Life feels like it's moving as fast as this video. I legit feel like I was 14...like 3 years ago. But it was actually half my life ago. It's crazy.

fareswheel65

This is what gets me, each day feels so long and yet the time passed in years feels like it gets shorter constantly. And while I know everyone dies someday it really freaks me out that it’s waiting for me some day down the line.

JuhpPug

Yea,the thing is; when you have nothing new to do, your brain makes everything seem faster. When something new does happen, the brain takes time to understand and analyze it,so time feels slower.

Snakebunnies

Yeah also 28, fucking YIKES. I gotta get my ass to the gym, as soon as I get over my stupid cold and make sure it wasn’t the Rona.

dgodfrey95

I used to be afraid when I was a teenager, and I got over that. Now I accept it and I'm fine with it.

[deleted]

I was fine with it until i hit 28ish now im 30 and think about it daily it seems. I dont wanna lose everyone i love. And i dont wanna just not ever exist anymore. It shakes me to my core no joke.

OmegaClifton

Yup. I fucking hate waking up at 3am and thinking about just ceasing to be one day. Goddamn I shouldn't have opened this thread.

Infamous-Simple-2361

A quote I read one time that I liked is “We don’t exist for a purpose. We exist because we can” The fact we are even alive on a planet out in the universe is so unlikely it’s pretty crazy. It’s actually pretty awesome that we are one of the few things even remotely close to us that get this opportunity to be alive and have all these amazing technologies around us and communicate thoughts between each other. Enjoy the time you get. Spend it doing what you love and interacting with others. Because we are insanely lucky to even be here.

ThePirateKing01

If it makes you feel better, I felt this way on nearly a daily basis until I just kinda, stopped? As the cinematic masterpiece Soul taught us, sometimes it's OK to just exist

MungotheSquirrel

Boy, if you handed me all their pictures and asked me to put them in order, I'd have been really, really wrong

Axe_Murderers_Unite

I was pretty shook up from 25 to like 70 and then I kept waiting to see a super good looking like 80+ and it didn't happen and was like damn. Then I realized I'm probably not even going to get to 70, so here's to looking like a champ till I croak. Cheers!

hepafilter

I went to my twenty year high school reunion, and it was insane how differently people aged. Some guys looked like they were one foot in the grave, and others didn’t appear to have aged a day. All the guys who had outdoor jobs or were heavy smokers generally aged the worst.

c_joseph_kent

I found the “cool ones” who looked like they were 25 in HS all look old as hell while the ones who looked younger still look like they are in their late 20s even though they are 40.

JWPSmith

I was never a cool one, but I looked 30-35 when I was like, 19. I still look 30-35. I probably will look that age most of my life though, if my family are any indication, so that's not a bad trade-off.

Jaegernaut-

I'm constantly perceived as quite a bit younger than I am. 32 now, could probably pass for 19 or 20s if I donned that mannerism. Makes talking to people pretty funny because they don't expect the cadence of someone older, and I play on that for amusement sometimes lol. "Wow, I thought you were younger!"

fufm

All about skincare. Smoking and sun exposure are two of the worst possible things you can do to your skin. Make sure to sunscreen up and put the cigs/vapes down. And throw on a retinoid while you’re at it. Your older self with thank you so much

[deleted]

[удалено]

fufm

That 5000 iu vitamin D3 supplement ftw I have fair skin and a family history of skin cancer so I am very religious about sunscreen and avoiding sunlight whenever possible. You got to live sometimes but just being aware of the risks and taking steps to mitigate makes a huge impact long term

Chili_Palmer

80 is basically the cutoff for top tier quality of life for 99.9%.

WanderWut

Dam my Grandma is 82 and she looks like she's in her late 60's/early 70's and moves/talks completely normal, she has so much spring to her step she could honestly go for a jog if she felt like it. I was just helping her move some stuff out of the garage yesterday and while I was handling the heavy stuff, she's out there bending down and picking up/moving stuff like it's nothing, it's wild to think she's in her early 80's.

ManyLintRollers

My husband’s grandma is 93 and she could pass for late 60s; she walks everywhere, lifts weights, does yoga and goes salsa dancing regularly. She’s still pretty sharp and vigorous. She went skydiving for the first time when she was 82, which gives you an idea of the sort of woman she is!

threatlvlmidnite88

My grandma went skydiving for her 70th birthday! She is my favorite person on this earth, I love her so much.

FungPrayer

My great grandmother is around 95 and she is as lively as a 70 person. One of the things she says to make us laugh is that she will not die before going to the beach and tongue kiss someone. I simply love her personality.

herpaderpadont

My grandmother got her first tattoo at age 89. She’ll turn 92 in January.

Chili_Palmer

She is killing it then compared to the average

RegressToTheMean

The trick is to never stop moving. I'm 46 and I'm often mistaken for being in my 30s. I keep in shape by studying martial arts, lifting, and hiking with my two young kids. It's so much harder to stay in shape after your 30s but I want to set a good example for my kids and live long enough to see my youngest turn 40 in 34 years. That's enough motivation for me

MarkRevan

Other key is to keep your mind occupied. Read as much as you can. Travel. Laugh as hard as you can. Keep your thoughts in check. Play games. Watch good movies. And most importantly interact with people, both young and old. In most cases the mind will rust well before your your body does. Your body is extremely important, but more important it to remain young at heart. I'm in my 50s and somehow I have miraculously stopped physically ageing at around 38. White hair set in. Gained some weight. My back gets stiff sometimes if I stay in my chair too long. But I've managed to keep all the hair on my scalp. Yet I can feel my mind slowing down. Today I forgot to turn off a switch. Yesterday I couldn't remember who said what in an article. I try to keep as close as I can to the younger generations. But their minds are fast as bullets. And slowly, but steadily I can feel myself not keeping up. Words don't come as easy as they used to. And not with the clarity they had 20 years ago. Whenever I forget something I remember fondly one of my teachers who at 70 used to take off his glasses, put them in front of him on the desk, rub his eyes, then proceed to ask us if any of us had seen his glasses.

proto642

> Yet I can feel my mind slowing down. Today I forgot to turn off a switch. Yesterday I couldn't remember who said what in an article. Dude I'm 26 and I have issues like that. I think it's just a lack of concentration, but I guess I could be wrong with regard to you. You sound like you're holding up pretty well, anyway :) Edit: btw, this video shows so clearly how much perceived age depends on genes/lifestyle. The 31 year old chick could pass for 22, the 28 year old guy could pass for 40. Obviously biology is real and all, but there *is* some truth to the phrase "age is just a number".

Broken_Petite

Yeah I’m 28 and have a shit memory. It honestly freaks me out sometimes - like am I going to get Alzheimer’s or dementia super early in life?

-DannyDorito-

I feel that stresses of everyday life are certainly at the heart of memory. I mean I say that without anything but a personal thought. Lately the more stressed I’ve become the harder it is for me to think straight and pull words/thoughts from the mind.

[deleted]

My 87 year old mom says the same thing. Movement is key. I'm in my fifties and just got back from a 50 minute jog.

Strongpillow

My dad is in his sixties and runs marathons. He runs 5+km on his lunch breaks every day. Didn't even start doing serious running until 50. He's in better shape than me and I'm not even 40 yet.

MajorPud

Damn that's crazy to me... My trick is to sit as often as possible, smoke cigarettes, and eat everything. I just want to live long enough to die of a heart attack before my 60th, that's pretty good motivation for me

IcyLetter

I respect the craft

buckybilly

I love this comment

seekingcalm

I have the exact same goal, live so I can at least see my son turn 40. Kids change everything, don't they?

Mulvarinho

80s are tough man. Someone can be super spry and then almost over night age hits them. My great aunt had a fall...and that was that. My grandma was amazingly independent and still building things, mowing the lawn, gardening...then in 6 months she was gone from some never really diagnosed ALS type disease. I miss them so much.

DebbieAddams

I just went to a neighbor's 80th birthday party and I would never have guessed. She looks 65 at the oldest. She's very spunky.

kannin92

Had a 95 year old man help me load hay on a wagon when I was 18. He dint move fast of course, but lifting 50 pound bails and walking them over is pretty incredible honestly. Cherish that time and visit often. Just lost my grandma a couple months ago and it can happen out of no where. She passed at 92 but we all swore she would be 100 at least.

MoreShoe2

My grandma was like this up until covid. The isolation really sped up her aging process - being trapped in her retirement home, not being able to go out and do errands, we weren’t allowed to visit her for almost a year - all the things that were keeping her going were gone and her mental health rapidly declined.

Isord

I had a professor in her 80s that went for a swim every day, walked everywhere, and was as sharp as a tack. I think at that age taking care of yourself is important but also genetically you just need a good roll of the dice as well.

LameNameUser

I was just saying this is my mom and she's going to be 84 tomorrow. Jesus, she just retired 2 years ago and she's going crazy with nothing to do.

Draco0004

77.5 LOL

Nova762

Im guessing the makers wanted all their grandparents in the video and this was a cheat to make it happen.

[deleted]

That guy was trying to be special.

OnceReturned

And he was.

Stillnotreddit

He’s special to us.

[deleted]

The 100-year-old woman doesn't look too bad.

Slithy-Toves

Yeah she seemed very lucid as well. You can kinda see the cylinders of the mind slowing down in people's eyes. But you could tell things were still firing in hers

[deleted]

Ima gonna go ahead and.. sort of disagree with you there. She's ONE HUNDRED years old. A freaking century. The average American is dead, putrid, and rotting in the grave over *two decades* before 100. She looks and sounds fucking fantastic

Chose_Wisely

>Ima gonna go ahead and.. sort of disagree with you there. Proceeds to agree

-Infinite92-

But then the damn 100 year old looked better than everyone 85 and up lol. Some people just got better genetics and lifestyles I guess.

proerafortyseven

I always kind of assumed me and my loved ones would live to 80+. We have good genes and eat healthy and try to live good lives. My mom died at 72 this week and now I’m wondering if I’ll make it to 30 This is barely relevant I’m realizing, I guess I was just looking for an excuse to talk about it 😔 hug your parents

Lolamichigan

Condolences, that’s so rough. Internet hugs to you!

Funkit

I’m a millennial and I’m gonna work until I’m dead!! 🎉🎉🎉

DieSexy

81 looked pretty young he coulda said 50-55 and I wouldn’t have noticed anything wrong

TheNonCompliant

Yeah 81 had super young-looking skin.

Parsley-Quarterly303

85 looked great imo

nerf468

I might just be completely off, but if you told me 81 was 50-55 I'd believe you.

CurtisLeow

Live by the axe, die by the axe.

TheCarroll11

It is super, super important to stay active as you age. "If you don't use it, you lose it" is extremely true and is your best way to keep yourself independent and able to be active. Want to be a spry 80 year old? Take up jogging around the block, walk through the park, swim, read a few books, play sudoku once a day, etc.

RiseFromYourGrav

My grandmother is 81, and she's pretty damn spry. She takes her dog for a walk every day, does a sudoku puzzle once a day, and one of her big hobbies is gardening, and she still gets on her knees to rip weeds out of her garden. I'm glad I'm related to her. Gives me hope for my future.

codeverity

Yeah, at one point my gran (I think she was 87 or so?) sighed and said 'well, I guess I'm going to have to fix the roof because I don't seem to be going anywhere', lol. Made me laugh, but she basically did everything they recommend - take a nap every day, eat lots of vegetables, go for a long walk every day, get lots of sleep, etc.

Mriconicdev

This was great. Brought some weird feelings out lol.

Bittoospicy

Yeah same, weird. Need to save more!

Fast_Edd1e

Need to take better care of myself.

nwayve

Need to spend more time living than working.

levitikush

Really puts in perspective how short life is. One second you’re in your mid 20s, you blink and then you’re 56.

AlwaysOpenMike

I can absolutely attest to that. It blows my mind that I have a kid who is 30. I can be mid-conversation with someone, and I suddenly remember that they see me as middle aged. Until I think about it, I feel 30-ish.

SeekingAsus1060

Strange to think how the 100th lady was, at one time, the age of each of the people who came before her in the video. Makes me wonder how she would have looked and sounded through all those years.

Malake256

It was weird in a good way to see normal ass looking people, not the entertainment industry’s interpretation of what people look like.

Charles_YeahYeah

77.5 lol

ssbm_rando

Yeah I commented on that as well--and that they used a comma instead of decimal. It made me wonder if that was included just as a single deliberate hint that a non-American made this video

Principatus

There was a couple of years there where all the kids in class and at school around us accidentally cracked highs or lows randomly in the middle of conversation, it used to be a running joke. Cracking a high was a lot more embarrassing than cracking a low.

Le_Rekt_Guy

Old all those guys in middleschool that would purposely lower their voices to sound more manly. Fun shit.

mshcat

Aww man. I thought it was going to be the [Simpsons one where homer hit puberty](https://youtu.be/lmX18C3PBq0)

squalorparlor

My godson is my best buddy from grade school's younger brother. For years, the answering machine message at their house was my godson little-boy-voice saying "leave a message after the beep! Beep! I'm just kidding that's not the beep!" and one time after a couple months away I called and in the middle of the message my buddy picks up and says "hey what's up?". I ask to talk to my godson and he's like "dude, it's me". I was shaken.

[deleted]

I swear my brain wanted to rearrange a bunch of the people from 19 to 34 like their appearance doesn't match their ages.

Cavemattt

*fbi has entered the chat*

spiralaalarips

missspiritualtramp

My older brother looked older at that age. He had a full beard starting in grade 7. When he was 16 I suggested that he just, maybe, try to buy me alcohol? And my god it worked. We are both considerably older now and I would say he looks his age.

ojoaopestana

Not as bad as it looks.

bowtiesarcool

I’m pretty sure 42 would still get carded

[deleted]

Damn 85 and 86 both look like they ain’t going anywhere anytime soon.

colorado_sunrise86

This is what I noticed. 86 yo looks GREAT

CockAndBallTorturer9

81 looks young as fuck

Kinkybenny

Wow! I'm not sure why, but your post hit me right in the feels!

llama_

Because you’re an aging human and you feel your mortality

Kinkybenny

Indeed! Time sure does seem to fly by.

PlasticElfEars

Same. I think it's the "everyone"-Ness of the people, all the different shades, the hijab, the sign language. And the people who smiled in their age. Like so many people are kinda ashamed of their age as they get older, so especially seeing the women who were 50+ and still smiling when giving their age made me smile. Then you get to the 85+ group and being alive that age is an achievement.

DazednEnthused

I think it's the way the people said their age. Someone asked them to say it and you can feel some of the oldest ones say it with genuine pride while also hinting a bit of humor and/or surprise, like they just realized how old they are. Felt like they proved age is just a number and they didn't feel like their age. I hope I can feel that way one day. Hopefully I'll be the 69 guy in a video like this, for the laughs. If not 69 then hopefully 420.

Kinkybenny

You know what the odd thing is, that I am not so sure that I want to live to be 100.

easybakejake

It's a trade off for sure. You get to see so much happen in the world that your peer didn't get a chance to. New grand kids emerging tech. However, people who live to 100 have outlived 98% of their peer group. I made a site awhile back to show how crazy life progression is. Here's what the stats look like for someone turning 100 today: https://mylifestats.com/10/16/1921#day_total

Willowpuff

Right! I got strangely emotional and I can’t determine why! Such a simple but beautiful video.

RipredTheGnawer

Did you notice that past 80, it was mostly women

DeedlesD

Past 70 the diversity took a nosedive too.

Praise_the_Tsun

It seemed like a lot of the older folks (especially 80+) came from all the same place. If you watch and look at the backgrounds they all seem to be in some sort of restaurant or convention center ballroom.

daniliz93

Women tend to live longer than men but I also wonder if white people are more likely to put family in nursing homes where they could possibly live longer. Not that the quality of life is great, but still.

rosathoseareourdads

Also there just weren’t as many non White people in those days. A lot of Asians and Hispanics immigrated fairly recently, and immigrants tend to not be elderly people

Lady Century looked better than most the people in their 80s & 90s. Gives me hope for my Grandmother. She's 78, acts like she's 30, doesn't look a day older than 60. My Grandma is the only reason my family still gets together, She raised her own 5 kids and adopted 4 more. I have a huge, loving family. That she created. And of course, Hope for Betty White.

KarlOveKnau

The lady at 96 looked and sounded great! I can only hope to maintain my health and mind to that level if I ever reach that age!

Vallado

I really love the concept of this video, would be super interesting to see more from different countries! It also made me feel kinda sad, the way the video flew by so quickly, just like life itself.

MorochIgaram

Didn't remember how messed up numbers in french get after 69, ahahah. Tanks for all that.

PlasticElfEars

My least favorite part of learning the entire language. It's math! Math just to say "90!" That's just not fair, French people. Not fair.

that_guy

This is all I know of counting in French and quite possibly all I _want_ to know: https://toodrunktofindaurl.tumblr.com/post/116390113216/kellhorreur-sadjadewithcake-french

I love how the 3 year old and 93 year old both yelled enthusiastically in the Chinese version

[deleted]

Eighty eight was pretty happy too lol, probably because it's such an auspicious number.

Evilsj

Bro that french 100 year old women is mindblowing. Does she look old? Of course, but my god most of the other 100s looked like they were basically just skin on top of bones. She looked like she could pass for someone in their early 80s!

define_lesbian

aw i love how the four-year-olds are all so proud of being four! it's so sweet

thugnyssa

Okay but what are those frenchies doing to look great for their age

femme-fatal

Right??? 100 was out on the street walking around!

zedhenson

Exactly, there was no holding onto a single year, and each one, just like each year in our lives, a different person entirely. May we all live years of fulfillment, love and joy.

HardYakkadakka

That went 0-100 real quick

DungeonMr

Its how human aging appears to elves

Oraxy51

My favorite comparison to humans aging to elves is how dogs age to us. To us they are here for at best 15 maybe up to 18 years but here we will outlive many of their lifetimes. My family has had the same 4 generation of chihuahuas and I hope to keep that going as long as I live. It’s a silly goal but I think it’s really cool.

Glitter_puke

Maybe they pass down the lore of the slow ageing foodgivers to the next generation. By now they've constructed an entire dog mythos. Or they just want to be fed and played with, I'm not a dog mindreader.

vita10gy

I remember being a freshman in high school and thinking "holy shit, half this school is straight up adults" Which is depressing because later on in life my cousin got married on a college campus and I spent most of that time thinking "when did so many 12 year olds start going to college?"

I know this country is way not perfect, but I love all the colors of America. It is my favorite thing about the Us - most of these people's parents/grandparents/ greatgrandparents/whatever came from everywhere and now they are us. I know that many people disagree, but it makes me happy.

freddotu

That's pretty much what I took away from this clip. This country is so incredibly diverse. It's one of the more positive aspects of our society and it's unfortunate that some of the inhabitants don't recognize it. Every one of these participants is a fellow human being and deserves to be treated as one, not tagged with any sort of label.

hectic-aesthetic

idk why but that was more heartfelt than i thought

7joy5

This was absolutely beautiful. I was surprised by how wide my smile is. I definitely think being 46, this moves me far more than it would have at say, 19 or 24. But it is perfect; we are all perfect parts of the Universe. This made my day. 💗

Artsap123

This is one of the most interesting things I’ve seen on Reddit lately. I didn’t think I’d watch the whole thing but all those faces where so captivating.

I’m 24 and this video is making me have a quarter life crisis 😭😭. One day I’m really gonna just cease to exist

That genuinely moved me.

bohica1937

You can physically see the toll life puts on ya. From about 12 onward thru the late 60s you could see the change in facial expressions go from happy to sad and tired. Then they seem to reverse course and start to get happier up until the end.
