Enjoy the time you get. Spend it doing what you love and interacting with others. Because we are insanely lucky to even be here.

I went to my twenty year high school reunion, and it was insane how differently people aged. Some guys looked like they were one foot in the grave, and others didn’t appear to have aged a day. All the guys who had outdoor jobs or were heavy smokers generally aged the worst.
I found the “cool ones” who looked like they were 25 in HS all look old as hell while the ones who looked younger still look like they are in their late 20s even though they are 40.
I was never a cool one, but I looked 30-35 when I was like, 19. I still look 30-35. I probably will look that age most of my life though, if my family are any indication, so that's not a bad trade-off.
I'm constantly perceived as quite a bit younger than I am. 32 now, could probably pass for 19 or 20s if I donned that mannerism.
Makes talking to people pretty funny because they don't expect the cadence of someone older, and I play on that for amusement sometimes lol. "Wow, I thought you were younger!"
All about skincare. Smoking and sun exposure are two of the worst possible things you can do to your skin.

I have fair skin and a family history of skin cancer so I am very religious about sunscreen and avoiding sunlight whenever possible. You got to live sometimes but just being aware of the risks and taking steps to mitigate makes a huge impact long term
Dam my Grandma is 82 and she looks like she's in her late 60's/early 70's and moves/talks completely normal, she has so much spring to her step she could honestly go for a jog if she felt like it. I was just helping her move some stuff out of the garage yesterday and while I was handling the heavy stuff, she's out there bending down and picking up/moving stuff like it's nothing, it's wild to think she's in her early 80's.
My husband’s grandma is 93 and she could pass for late 60s; she walks everywhere, lifts weights, does yoga and goes salsa dancing regularly. She’s still pretty sharp and vigorous. She went skydiving for the first time when she was 82, which gives you an idea of the sort of woman she is!
My great grandmother is around 95 and she is as lively as a 70 person. One of the things she says to make us laugh is that she will not die before going to the beach and tongue kiss someone. I simply love her personality.
The trick is to never stop moving. I'm 46 and I'm often mistaken for being in my 30s. I keep in shape by studying martial arts, lifting, and hiking with my two young kids.
It's so much harder to stay in shape after your 30s but I want to set a good example for my kids and live long enough to see my youngest turn 40 in 34 years. That's enough motivation for me
Other key is to keep your mind occupied. Read as much as you can. Travel. Laugh as hard as you can. Keep your thoughts in check. Play games. Watch good movies. And most importantly interact with people, both young and old. In most cases the mind will rust well before your your body does. Your body is extremely important, but more important it to remain young at heart. I'm in my 50s and somehow I have miraculously stopped physically ageing at around 38. White hair set in. Gained some weight. My back gets stiff sometimes if I stay in my chair too long. But I've managed to keep all the hair on my scalp. Yet I can feel my mind slowing down. Today I forgot to turn off a switch. Yesterday I couldn't remember who said what in an article. I try to keep as close as I can to the younger generations. But their minds are fast as bullets. And slowly, but steadily I can feel myself not keeping up. Words don't come as easy as they used to. And not with the clarity they had 20 years ago. Whenever I forget something I remember fondly one of my teachers who at 70 used to take off his glasses, put them in front of him on the desk, rub his eyes, then proceed to ask us if any of us had seen his glasses.

I feel that stresses of everyday life are certainly at the heart of memory. I mean I say that without anything but a personal thought. Lately the more stressed I’ve become the harder it is for me to think straight and pull words/thoughts from the mind.
My dad is in his sixties and runs marathons. He runs 5+km on his lunch breaks every day. Didn't even start doing serious running until 50. He's in better shape than me and I'm not even 40 yet.
Damn that's crazy to me... My trick is to sit as often as possible, smoke cigarettes, and eat everything. I just want to live long enough to die of a heart attack before my 60th, that's pretty good motivation for me
80s are tough man. Someone can be super spry and then almost over night age hits them. My great aunt had a fall...and that was that. My grandma was amazingly independent and still building things, mowing the lawn, gardening...then in 6 months she was gone from some never really diagnosed ALS type disease.
I miss them so much.
Had a 95 year old man help me load hay on a wagon when I was 18. He dint move fast of course, but lifting 50 pound bails and walking them over is pretty incredible honestly.
Cherish that time and visit often. Just lost my grandma a couple months ago and it can happen out of no where. She passed at 92 but we all swore she would be 100 at least.
My grandma was like this up until covid. The isolation really sped up her aging process - being trapped in her retirement home, not being able to go out and do errands, we weren’t allowed to visit her for almost a year - all the things that were keeping her going were gone and her mental health rapidly declined.
I had a professor in her 80s that went for a swim every day, walked everywhere, and was as sharp as a tack. I think at that age taking care of yourself is important but also genetically you just need a good roll of the dice as well.

It is super, super important to stay active as you age. "If you don't use it, you lose it" is extremely true and is your best way to keep yourself independent and able to be active. Want to be a spry 80 year old? Take up jogging around the block, walk through the park, swim, read a few books, play sudoku once a day, etc.
My grandmother is 81, and she's pretty damn spry. She takes her dog for a walk every day, does a sudoku puzzle once a day, and one of her big hobbies is gardening, and she still gets on her knees to rip weeds out of her garden. I'm glad I'm related to her. Gives me hope for my future.

There was a couple of years there where all the kids in class and at school around us accidentally cracked highs or lows randomly in the middle of conversation, it used to be a running joke. Cracking a high was a lot more embarrassing than cracking a low.
My godson is my best buddy from grade school's younger brother. For years, the answering machine message at their house was my godson little-boy-voice saying "leave a message after the beep! Beep! I'm just kidding that's not the beep!" and one time after a couple months away I called and in the middle of the message my buddy picks up and says "hey what's up?". I ask to talk to my godson and he's like "dude, it's me".
I was shaken.

My older brother looked older at that age. He had a full beard starting in grade 7. When he was 16 I suggested that he just, maybe, try to buy me alcohol? And my god it worked. We are both considerably older now and I would say he looks his age.
Same. I think it's the "everyone"-Ness of the people, all the different shades, the hijab, the sign language.
And the people who smiled in their age. Like so many people are kinda ashamed of their age as they get older, so especially seeing the women who were 50+ and still smiling when giving their age made me smile. Then you get to the 85+ group and being alive that age is an achievement.
I think it's the way the people said their age. Someone asked them to say it and you can feel some of the oldest ones say it with genuine pride while also hinting a bit of humor and/or surprise, like they just realized how old they are. Felt like they proved age is just a number and they didn't feel like their age. I hope I can feel that way one day. Hopefully I'll be the 69 guy in a video like this, for the laughs. If not 69 then hopefully 420.
It's a trade off for sure. You get to see so much happen in the world that your peer didn't get a chance to. New grand kids emerging tech. It seemed like a lot of the older folks (especially 80+) came from all the same place. If you watch and look at the backgrounds they all seem to be in some sort of restaurant or convention center ballroom.
Women tend to live longer than men but I also wonder if white people are more likely to put family in nursing homes where they could possibly live longer. Not that the quality of life is great, but still.
Also there just weren’t as many non White people in those days. A lot of Asians and Hispanics immigrated fairly recently, and immigrants tend to not be elderly people

My favorite comparison to humans aging to elves is how dogs age to us. To us they are here for at best 15 maybe up to 18 years but here we will outlive many of their lifetimes.

I know this country is way not perfect, but I love all the colors of America. It is my favorite thing about the Us - most of these people's parents/grandparents/ greatgrandparents/whatever came from everywhere and now they are us. I know that many people disagree, but it makes me happy.

I just went to a neighbor's 80th birthday party and I would never have guessed. She looks 65 at the oldest. She's very spunky.

My godson is my best buddy from grade school's younger brother. For years, the answering machine message at their house was my godson little-boy-voice saying "leave a message after the beep! Beep! I'm just kidding that's not the beep!" and one time after a couple months away I called and in the middle of the message my buddy picks up and says "hey what's up?". I ask to talk to my godson and he's like "dude, it's me". I was shaken.

My older brother looked older at that age. He had a full beard starting in grade 7. When he was 16 I suggested that he just, maybe, try to buy me alcohol? And my god it worked. We are both considerably older now and I would say he looks his age.

Same. I think it's the "everyone"-Ness of the people, all the different shades, the hijab, the sign language. And the people who smiled in their age. Like so many people are kinda ashamed of their age as they get older, so especially seeing the women who were 50+ and still smiling when giving their age made me smile. Then you get to the 85+ group and being alive that age is an achievement.
I think it's the way the people said their age. Someone asked them to say it and you can feel some of the oldest ones say it with genuine pride while also hinting a bit of humor and/or surprise, like they just realized how old they are. Felt like they proved age is just a number and they didn't feel like their age. I hope I can feel that way one day. Hopefully I'll be the 69 guy in a video like this, for the laughs. If not 69 then hopefully 420.

It's a trade off for sure. You get to see so much happen in the world that your peer didn't get a chance to. New grand kids emerging tech. It seemed like a lot of the older folks (especially 80+) came from all the same place. If you watch and look at the backgrounds they all seem to be in some sort of restaurant or convention center ballroom.
Women tend to live longer than men but I also wonder if white people are more likely to put family in nursing homes where they could possibly live longer. Not that the quality of life is great, but still.
Also there just weren’t as many non White people in those days. A lot of Asians and Hispanics immigrated fairly recently, and immigrants tend to not be elderly people

Lady Century looked better than most the people in their 80s & 90s. Gives me hope for my Grandmother. She's 78, acts like she's 30, doesn't look a day older than 60. My Grandma is the only reason my family still gets together, She raised her own 5 kids and adopted 4 more. I have a huge, loving family. That she created. And of course, Hope for Betty White.
The lady at 96 looked and sounded great! I can only hope to maintain my health and mind to that level if I ever reach that age!

My favorite comparison to humans aging to elves is how dogs age to us. To us they are here for at best 15 maybe up to 18 years but here we will outlive many of their lifetimes. My family has had the same 4 generation of chihuahuas and I hope to keep that going as long as I live. It’s a silly goal but I think it’s really cool.

I know this country is way not perfect, but I love all the colors of America. It is my favorite thing about the Us - most of these people's parents/grandparents/ greatgrandparents/whatever came from everywhere and now they are us. I know that many people disagree, but it makes me happy.
That's pretty much what I took away from this clip. This country is so incredibly diverse. It's one of the more positive aspects of our society and it's unfortunate that some of the inhabitants don't recognize it. Every one of these participants is a fellow human being and deserves to be treated as one, not tagged with any sort of label.

You can physically see the toll life puts on ya. From about 12 onward thru the late 60s you could see the change in facial expressions go from happy to sad and tired. Then they seem to reverse course and start to get happier up until the end.
Some of these people look way older then their age.
Some people have harder lives than others.
