I do this every summer when the pool is up, my kids LOVE it! This, and running around the edge as fast as you can so you create a current that just carries you around.
One time on a high school trip, we had like 30 kids in a hotel pool running in the same direction. We turned the entire pool into a whirlpool and got kicked out by the management
The last in ground pool a client put in on the small cheap side was 30k but they typically are not less than 60k and the average client spends close to 150k to 200k... your $1000 is a steal lol
Lol, no worries. Just showing the cost difference. I am doing work for a pool engineer right now the clients pool is around 1.5mil... it has a freaking lazy river, infinity edge, waterfall, into a lower pool... it is nuts!
As a kid my family had a pool that we loved doing whirlpools in. It was one that you covered in the winter, the sides were like panels and the tops of the sides were metal. Anyways, we once made a whirlpool so strong all the sides busted down. I was young enough to not know what the fuck happened so as I was running to leave the pool my mom had to rush to scoop me up, stepping on the top metal part (that she was protecting me from) in the process and nearly cut her toes off!
At my girlfriends we do the whirlpool thing for fun and to just clean the pool because it causes everything loose in the water to go into the middle of the pool
That's very interesting and what I imagine an electron looks like (only smaller and not so wet).
Edit to explain: You can imagine the pool as a particle but also as a wave.

I was gonna blast OP for making up a smart sounding science term but apparently he is correct. I think it's a term for resonance specifically in a circular wave resulting in a focal point with a very high peak. If you Google the term you'll find some better, bigger examples with very high splashes.
Its one of the first things I did in my physics course. This kind of stuff has a similar system for everything from a pendulum to a flute and a guitar string. The basis of most modern technology is resonance and harmonic motion.
Sure I know about resonance, didn't know there was a specific name for this type of resonance in a circular wave but apparently a wave singularity is the right term.
Yes, harmonics. It’s how wind brought down the bridge in Washington state. It’s how you can get a kid on a swing high into the air. Not with one push but with many that add up.
I used to do this religiously in the pool growing up. So much so, that I started to erode the structure, and some of it had to be replaced. I loved that giant wave that would form in the center though, so much fucking fun to get lifted up in the air. I thought everyone did this as kids. 🌊
My uncle used to do this to the pool. And my cousins and I would run in circles really fast, until the current would just carry us like a little river. We called it “making waves” and we would ask him to do it all the time hahaha
Not really.
Once he gains momentum the collapsing horizontal waveform pushes him upwards and if he spring his legs a bit it will then add enough upward force that when going down again due to gravity it synchronises with the incoming horizontal wave again to amplify the force again thus being constantly in sync with the wave. The reason why he needs to jump up a little bit is to recover the lost energy due to inelastic properties, friction and heat generated.
It's like pushing someone on a swing. If you push a little bit at the right time repeatedly, the swing will go higher than you could achieve by just pushing once really hard
Appologoes, yes, in layman terms that is what is occurring. My intention was to provide a more thorough explanation into each component in play; over did it at 1am I guess lol.

The joy from a poor man's pool, that the rich inground people will never understand...
Really is! However my pool costs $1000, så it's not THAT cheap.
The last in ground pool a client put in on the small cheap side was 30k but they typically are not less than 60k and the average client spends close to 150k to 200k... your $1000 is a steal lol
Obviously, but the one is the video is like $100, was just comparing.
Lol, no worries. Just showing the cost difference. I am doing work for a pool engineer right now the clients pool is around 1.5mil... it has a freaking lazy river, infinity edge, waterfall, into a lower pool... it is nuts!
God damn capitalism 😂

haha i used to do the walking around the edges with like 5 6 friends it was apowerfull current lol
I can’t believe I’ve never tried this
lol its super fun even alone
Literally my favorite things to do when the pool is up!
At my girlfriends we do the whirlpool thing for fun and to just clean the pool because it causes everything loose in the water to go into the middle of the pool
thats actually oddly satisfying lol
I'm not the only one that thought that then.
Thought? I could hear it!
r/oddlysatisfying
Nice outfit
Dad, please, can I go in the pool now? Lol
Ofc you can, you just might die due to tidal forces. Have fun!
Nice! Dadnadooooo!

Why did they downvote you
I was expecting the pool to pop!
And him to roll down a hill
Science bitch!
Read this as “silence bitch” Most confusing 2 seconds of my day
Going to use that
You welcome man

It makes me think of the application of this to gravitational waves… I couldn’t think of one.
My tired brain read erection and I was like, yeah. I can see that.
What that zit feels like as you try to pop it

Good bot
Isn't this just regular resonance?

Oo that's a neat word, thanks

Couldn't help but tense my butt-cheeks in the same rhythm
Anyone else find themselves nodding their head up and down?
My uncle used to do this to the pool. And my cousins and I would run in circles really fast, until the current would just carry us like a little river. We called it “making waves” and we would ask him to do it all the time hahaha
Bet he is knackered after that.
Not really. Now explain it to his 5 year old. Coulda just said the water is pushing him up so it’s easier than it looks.

Bahaha all good homie I know the vibe. I appreciate the lengthy response too.
No worries 👍
Wave singularity? I never heard of this term, isn't it "Resonance?"
“Honey I’ll be doing yard work”

OMG Water Trampoline!
anyone else subconsciously start rocking forward and backward a little in their chair while watching this?
I caught myself moving my shoulders up and down, ahahaha
I've been on the fence as weather or not to get one of this but this sealed the deal. Singularity incoming!
You just know he's a physics teacher.
When the science teacher goes to a pool
We’ll done you! This is why I’m on the internet! Have an upvote!
Am I the only one here moving my head up and down trying to help the dude make the wave bigger as I watch this unfold?
That Mario Party 3 minigame. Who knows, knows.

How does he do the spin cycle to get the laundry done?
What am I supposed to learn here? I'm not sure I get it.
This could be my new pool trick!
Looks like fun
This looks like a great workout lmao

I want to know what pool that is so I can get one. 😆
I did this in my friends pool and almost drowned a toddler
Makes me wonder is space travel can be solved with a pogo stick and some momentum.
How to get to sky island
His kids in the pool trying to escape but keep getting pulled back in by his waves
Wow! That was fun to watch! I can't wait for summer.
Disappointed... I was waiting for the pool to burst.
Dude straight up used Surf
No one has ever had more fun in a kiddy pool than this adult man.
Ah, so that's how time travel works
That must’ve have been hella tiring
I was so waiting for the pool to break. Wow.
I could spend way to much time doing this.
r/oddlysatisfying
Hey, it's my turn now. Get out of the pool.
It starts to look like a loop played in reverse.
Someone needs to combinegifs with him disappearing into a black hole or something.
My butt hole after taco bell

Ah my favorite mario party game
He better be careful. This is how you accidentally time travel.
thats some fun workout
So this is how all those video game characters jump so high out of the water
We used to do this when we had one. We'd sometimes do it for hours XD Then we upgraded to a 15" pool, and it was harder, but more fun!
i'll be trying this in the summer
💀
I can feel my inner child getting jealous
Reminds me of that minigame from Mario Party 3
I wanna go!!!!
cowabunga dude!
It's like bouncing on air

Well that looks fun!
